Sen. John McCain will say Tuesday he wants to let Americans choose between two income tax systems.
Sen. John McCain will say Tuesday he wants to let Americans choose between two income tax systems.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) — Sen. John McCain plans to outline plans Tuesday to revive a flagging economy — proposals that a top aide describes as "big and ambitious."

The presumptive Republican nominee wants to create an alternative income-tax system, reform the Medicare prescription-drug benefit and double the amount of an exemption that taxpayers receive for dependents, according to a copy of remarks he plans to deliver Tuesday morning.

McCain also says he wants Congress to declare a summer gas-tax holiday by suspending the 18.4-cent federal gas tax and 24.4-cent tax on diesel fuel from Memorial Day to Labor Day this year.

And he will reiterate his plans on the sub-prime mortgage crisis by offering people in danger of foreclosure a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage loan backed by the federal government.

John McCain sounds more like a Democrat than a Republican with his "government takes care of everybody plan".

That plan should really set off the conservative Republican base with the "he's giving away the bank" mentality.

But in politics, it's say what will get the votes.

Janet   April 15th, 2008 8:10 am ET

It's about time someone in Washington decided we need tax breaks!
And it took a presidential candidate to step up to the plate. The best way to stimulate the economy is to do something about the enormous taxes people are paying and the price of gasoline. The stupid economic stimulus package Bush proposed is useless—and by the way, do you know that if you happen to owe Uncle Sam money from any previous year's tax returns, this amount will be deducted from your rebate. Yes, the stimulus package is great—it's a sure way to get Uncle Sam paid back and does squat for the people.

Thank you John McCain for proposing something that will actually HELP Americans!!!

Derrick G.   April 15th, 2008 8:12 am ET

WOW!! I thought Senator McCain's experience would put him ahead of the other to candidates when it came to the econmy. Instead, i see him catering to special interest groups, and offering faulty temporary solution for a weakening economy. We all know that the oil and gas companies are the biggest lobbyist in Washington. I can see it now, A federal tax cut on gas, making my life better. I am a republican, but i guess my blood will be blue in this election.

Ito, Yokosuka Japan   April 15th, 2008 8:12 am ET

Suspend the gas tax, eh?

I guess he is trying to buy votes now? I wonder if he will continue doing it after he is elected.

Uncle Sam   April 15th, 2008 8:15 am ET

It looks like Sen. John McCain knows more about economics than his critics would have us believe. I hope that they will keep an open mind regarding these proposals, rather than turning their backs due to partisan pride. Given the polarization in this country, we need someone like John McCain, who practices more than he preaches, when it comes to working cooperatively with all viewpoints.

Appreciate his ideas. Love he holding the line spending for one year. Really would appeciate a summer to be able to spend more money having fun BUT

Where does he think the money is going to come from to help with all the construction and reconstruction of bridgs and highways? Does this mean these projects would continue and up goes the debt so that now not only my grandchildren will have to pay it off but my great grandchildren?

Sounds good but look who is talking about not being realisitic and with the blue collar workers.

Yes! Now I vote for John McCain.

Obama and Hillary only make blame and do nothing of there own.

I love them both

With at least 8 houses and hundreds of million of dollars in the bank, Sen. John McCain doesn't care about the average Americans struggling in this economic situation. Sen. John McCain should be outlining his retirement plan.

Derrick G.   April 15th, 2008 8:20 am ET

I am a student, and I could have bet my book money that McCain would invest in education more wisely. Instead, he offers more loans in an econmy where people are already struggling to keep up with current loan payments. Thank you so much Senator. Now, i can go to school, graduate, become unempolyed due of job scarcity, and do my part in weakening the economy when I default on my student loans.

Don Gruno   April 15th, 2008 8:21 am ET

I like John. He is my kind of leader. His proposals are srteight forward and easy to understand. Not pie in the sky platitudes of other office seekers.
I like the dark blue McCain t-shirt and bumper sticker I received following a contribution to his campaign. I wish I knew how to get a few more. People keeping keep asking me how they can get one. Any help?

Sue   April 15th, 2008 8:21 am ET

I am just wondering why Sen. McCain has not said anything about Geoff Davis. Why does he not apologize for his party for harbouring such disgusting people who make such offensive remarks about another candidate? Ir someone were to call him an "Old Man', there would be an uproar. What is good for the goose….

For all of those who think Mc Cain will be a Bush tird term, you need to fasten those seatbelts and get your head out of the media lies. It will be very clear LONG before November that this man stands on his own and stands for us the American people.

John McCain is FOR THE PEOPLE. Now that's change we can count on. There are over 100 new taxes or fees that DIDN'T exist 100 years ago! It IS time for Washington to scale back. Mr. McCain cares about this country…….. People first, Govt. second. Now that would be sticking his thumb in the eye of all the bum's in Washington, Republican or Democrat. Throw all the bums out when you get the Presidency Sen. McCain and start over! The American people would be happy to start over. I wished you could take over for the current administration EARLY, like now! We would see IMMEDIATE results.

What a silly season this has become. There aren't any good candidates on either side. This is the worst selection since I've been able to vote. Next Hillary will tell about her sharecropping days while throwing back a few and Obama will tell her how bitter she is and that's why she drinks and packs a shotgun in her pickup truck. Can't either party find a qualified and dignified candidate to run for president? And look who's waiting in the wings…Ralph Nader and Bob Barr. Will the jokes never end? All you Obama supporters had better do your homework because he IS an elitist and feels he knows more about what's good for you than you do. AND Hillary has always been an elitist. Angry John is not an elitist but he doesn't excite too many people. Where are the statesmen of our parties?

Obama is correct. Most American are cynical. Most Americans are clinging. They cling to hope that is fast fading. Gasoline rapists and robbers go on unchecked. Congress does nothing. Promises in every election go unfulfilled. The media is so distracted that they cannot even focus on the real needs of Americans, these elections have turned into a media frenzy of non issues and you are as guilty of driving this nonsense as anyone. Americans want to hear their concerns being discussed. Not fighting. You report it, it must be important. And yet, the country goes deeper into mayhem.

John McCain will drive this country even deeper in debt. If we do not turn this around soon, you will be looking for work! There will be no work. Americans are out of work, loosing their homes, unable to provide for their families, without healthcare, unable to look for work because of high gas prices and YES, WE ARE CYNICAL!!! TELL THAT TO McCAIN AND HILLARY BECAUSE IT IS TRUE. And I am a white man, if that really matters.

And I wish you would be decent enogh to broadcast the whole speah by the Rev. Wright because, HE IS RIGHT TOO! If, you are privaledged to see the WHOLE tape.

Loss of tax revenue from federal fuel taxes would only open the window more quickly for the prices to escalate on the open market.

No, you say.
Please, what type of economic measures are practiced within oil companies to keep down their own Operating, General and Administrative Costs to put more money to their own bottom lines?
Less private parties, fewer multi million dollar bonuses, smaller private jets, less multi million dollar ad campaigns, reduction of lobbyists on K street, while the companies continued to be subsidized by the taxpayer?

Robby from TX   April 15th, 2008 8:49 am ET

John McSame seems like a decent guy. HOWEVER, a vote for him is a vote for a Bush 3rd term. We've seen this outline before with W in 2000 and look where we are today.

OBAMA or HILLARY 08. I'll take either!!

John   April 15th, 2008 8:51 am ET

"In addition, McCain proposes a one-year pause in discretionary spending while all departments’ spending is reviewed (with the exception of the Veterans Administration and the Department of Defense)." Is there a reason the clause contained within the parentheses is tiny when displayed on my screen? It's almost like your trying to hide it :) perhaps to avoid the irony in fixing the economy by ceasing all discretionary spending except for something which could actually turn the economy around…i.e. ceasing the $4000 a minute spending in Iraq.

Grif   April 15th, 2008 8:54 am ET

So John intends to outline his Economy Plans. Well, he has a good Accountant working on it, so he shouldn't have much trouble, and it's one of many problems he can sort… No matter what they say about his abilities, outside his Military career..

DM, Arlington TX   April 15th, 2008 8:56 am ET

The problem we have is McCain plan have no checks and balance any accountant would tell you his plan would not allow us to pay off our debt. America can not operate like that .

One thing that McCain said I agree with all excess spending project need to be halted for a year for evaluation. The needs to be a goal to pay off at least 15 % of our national debt the first year in office and set the plan to reduce foreign oil dependancy.

I believe in Barack Obama, I fell that McCain and Hillary Clinton are out of touch and they are the "True Elitist" with the Mega Wealth and back door deal making.

Bill Clinton is just lucky not to be in Jail he needs to chillout but hell he was never a good president he's actual used his position to Rape Women.

Sen McCain, having been around the Federal Govern;ment for a long time, knows what can and cannot be accomplished with a nation that is as divided as ours is. The other two runners are just making trash task, not having had the experiences of trying to make enactments through the entire process.

He will have the best economic plan. Go McCain!

Franky   April 15th, 2008 9:03 am ET

You know, it is ironic that Senator McCain is trying to ease his economic plans. At first it was thought that McCain's economic woes was due to his inability to care what plan he may have had in the beginning but now, he is definitely trying.

I'm not going to lie, I hope Senator McCain really takes this economic crises very serious. Whether his plan may be "big and ambitious", it doesn't matter because the matter of fact is, people are hurting….and believe it or not, for some reason, if McCain would win the Presidency, I wouldn't mind. Yeah, the Reps might not be the "cool" people now but if it was my boy going up against McCain in the GE(General Election), to be honest, I wouldn't mind either one and I know who I would pick if it came to that, but if it was Hillary and McCain, then I'll make sure in my power Hillary won't win….I know, I have crazy views, LOL!!!

Just as long as McCain "tries"(but not too hard) with the economy, he'll be fine just as long as he listens…….

Russ, Albuquerque   April 15th, 2008 9:03 am ET

We have a country with failing infrastructure and record deficit spending and the Republicans keep telling us if we reduce taxes the Gov't will have more revenue and become solvent. This premise has never proven to work and has suceeded in building a National debt that is unfathomable to all but astronomers. Good idea John give the gas junkies another fix and leave it to our children to clean up the mess.

HP Boston   April 15th, 2008 9:03 am ET

Okay so John you said you must read a book on economics for dummies, so who wrote up a plan for you to pander with?
Study hard b/c you can hardly remember much in these days of your golden years. Mmmm dontcha just love all the cliches about old people.

Kansas Veteran   April 15th, 2008 9:04 am ET

Boy, doubling exemptions and stopping federal fuel taxes during the summer, now that'a an economic plan. The dollar is nose diving, oil has equal satutus with gold as a comodity of investment in hard times these days. That means as long as the dollar is weak we are going to see high gas prices, as long as we have high gas prices inflation is going to be mounting, as long as inflation is rising we are going to see less and less money in the hands of consumers to spend on non-essentials.

The Feds solution, lower interest rates, this is great if people need a reason to go out and spend, but we have been telling people to spend all throughout the 2000's, they are in hock up to their necks. We need a plan that is going to stabilize the dollar, increase the dollar in value so that the dollar is what people are investing in not oil and gold. How valuable do you thing the dollar is withthe prime below 3%. Can not save, inflation is greater than you receive in interest on a savings account or CD. The markets, are we not glad the American people did not accept the bill of goods putting retirement totally in the hands of Wall Street. What has put us where we are is pure and simple, greed. Why do it the old fashion way when we can take short cuts, what we need now is a plan to do away with shortcuts and get the economy back on track, and yes that means bring manufacturing back to the United States, regulating banking and finicial markets like they have never been regulated before and reinstall good old American horse sense in to the mix. What person out there is worth the budget of a small nation or state in annual income, none thats who.

Tracy   April 15th, 2008 9:04 am ET

It is nice for McCain to FINALLY take a look a tthe horrible economic situation we find ourselves in, but to me it is too little too late. The only lasting idea that sticks in my mind is his own admission that he isn't good with the economy. One glaring problem (among many) I see here is this idea that somehow suspending the federal fuel tax will be of any great help to me or my family. $.20 a gallon will do nothing for my pocketbook when gas is already hovering around $4 a gallon. Guess this is the same ole same ole from the Republicans- protect big business profits at the expense of the American public with little or no long-term environmental solution. Also, does it not strike anyone as absurd that is this time period of record deficits and national debt that the last thing government needs to do is reduce their "income"? At some point, for our children's future, Americans are going to have to make some sacrifices (not only fiscal but environmental) to pay down our debt and protect our Earth. I have a feeling McCain will do little if he becomes president to make this happen- instead we will get another 4 years of Bush's failed economic and environmental policies.

Tony DeBottis   April 15th, 2008 9:45 am ET

On gas tax, first sensible offer I have heard, This would help economy more than stimilus package. Also just stop one reconstruction payment to Iraq and this could be used in the mortgage crisses that we are in. Also, our politicians need to get off there butts and think seriously about the economy in stead of who is going to get elected next fall. We have 3 senators running for pres. What is happening with the work of there senators jobs? They should resign this job if they chose to run for Pres, I don't like my senator running all over the country when we have great big problems in our state.

Jermaine   April 15th, 2008 9:46 am ET

John Mccain really shows he don't understand the economy. 18 to 24 cents, yeah like that will pay the bills, like that will help with health care, like that will buy gas for the cars. JOHN MCBUSH is freally out of touch, and the media need to start to question John Mccain instead of pandering and cozying up to him. MCCAIN IS GETTING A FREE RIDE, BUT I HOPE HE DOES AND IT WILL END ON SEPTEMBER. The press will turn their attention to John Mccain in after OBAMA is vetted and then Mccain will have allot of heat on his tail. He is no more a maverick than he is George BUSH….OUT OF TOUCH.
Now he wants OBAMA to apologize for President Carter decision to go to meet HAMA, this is so laughable, the idiot the Republicans have running for President!

Joseph E. Brown, Sr. (Austin, Minnesota)   April 15th, 2008 9:59 am ET

The proposal by Senator John McCain to declare a summer tax holiday on the federal gas tax and diesel gas tax demonstrates how out of touch the Senator is. In Minnesota we have Interstate Highway bridges collapsing due to the no-new-tax increase policy of Governor Tim Pawlenty (McCain's political sidekick and possible vice-presidential nominee). Our nations' transportation infrastructure needs major repair and maintenance. The elimination of the gas tax for three months would only add to the number of unsafe roads and bridges in our country. A better solution would be for Senator McCain to ask the oil companies to declare a holiday on profits for three months. This would have the combined effect of lowering gas and diesel prices and maintaining a reliable source of revenue for the maintenance of our roads and bridges. Another idea for Senator McCain to consider is to stop the war in Iraq which is draining our entire national economy and increasing the price of crude oil from $20 per barrel before the war in Iraq to $112 per barrel. President Bush and Senator McCain have done more to destroy our national economy that any group of terrorists.

The people that hold political office are a direct reflection of the American people that vote them in. Don't blame the problems in our government on politicans, blame the American people.

what economic plan? his guy is so out of touch with reality it's not even funny. i do give him some credit, he is a war hero and for that i will always respect john mccain. but to lead this country, that is a bit of a stretch. doesn't anyone remember it wasnt too long ago that mccain openly said "what bad econony"? he said that he wasn't too particular concern with the bad econony at the moment. is he crazy, how can he NOT be concerned, its on everyones mind! everyday people are being creamed at the gas pump, heating and energy cost, higher food prices, little to no health care converage…….etc etc.
im sorry, he is a war hero, but i deffinately dont want him to run this country if i had a say about it. oh yeah, i forgot one other thing, another 100+ years in Iraq. he doesn't feel the burden, but everyone else does. like i said before, a war hero, but definately no where in touch with reality. and i hope everyday people see this.

Janaki, Rockville, MD   April 15th, 2008 10:14 am ET

This is pure garbage. Removing a tax so people can burn even more fossil fuels FASTER? Gas SHOULD be expensive so that people are forced to use LESS of it. Take a lesson from the UK.

I really wonder if the average American realizes we are past peak oil. I wonder if they realize oil is finite, it is not being created and we must do everything in our power to STOP using it.

McCain is IRRESPONSIBLY fueling consumption - it makes me ill.

Slowpoke   April 15th, 2008 10:15 am ET

I thought he already laid out his plan like a week ago. It's ok to change it or supplement it, but strange that it is so soon.

Also: What is the point of the gas tax holiday? Is this just to have a tax break without costing the government much. People probably won't stockpile gas then.

GMC   April 15th, 2008 10:21 am ET

The problem with forcing those older Americans who are able to pay thier own prescriptions is that once again we tax those who have prepared for their retirement years by taxing them twice; once for their payments into social security and now once again by not giving them the benefits they paid for! The ever-increasing trend toward American socialism is leaning alarmingly towards this message: "Spend all you earn, have fun, waste it all, buy big cars, fancy homes and expensive toys because in the end the governement will take care of you. After all you're so 'poor and needy', but if you save and sacrifice during your earning years you'll have to continue to pay and sacrifice because you're not going to get ANYTHING back from the system YOU PAID FOR!" We have the system, like it or not, but it should be "blind", i.e., anyone who pays social security taxes should get ALL the benefits regardless of their financial situation later when they have been promised to them.

Doug R.   April 15th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Again…Mr. McCain has no real understanding of the underlying principles of economics. Congress would never approve a gas tax holiday period. Regarding sub prime loans being converted to fixed producst…who is going to pay for that?? Explain McCain. A few weeks back McCain said there was no real economic problem. Yesterday he said we are in a recession. Today, he's dropping this big plan on us. This man is a scary freak.

Santosh-Philadelphia   April 15th, 2008 10:39 am ET

The economy has practically nothing to do with the President-I mean any President. It is a wasted vote to vote for a Pres. candidate based on their so-called "economic policies." Plain and simpled: THE ECONOMY IS not THE PRESIDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY.

The presidency was set up by our founding fathers w/few primary responsibilities: national security, foreign policy, domestic seecurity and a few infrastructure-related decisions here and there.

How the economy is doing during an administration is a matter of luck. President Clinton was lucky that he presided during the tech-boom. Pres. G. H. W. Bush was unlucky that we were still recovering from a recession in 1992. The current Pres. Bush was a little unlucky early but quite fortunate for about a 4 1/2 year span as the economy was booming although the bulk of the good news was after he'd already been re-elected. The federl reserve board has 6 times the power that the President does in having any effect on the economic cycle.

But remember, recessions are unfortunately and painfully for some, a natural part of the economic cycle. They are not the doing of any leader. They don't represent a person's failure. Presidents don't fix or grow economies. If they try to get invovled, they could ruin it rather-such as if they were to impose protectionist policies, etc. Luckily, none of our recent Presidents have done that.

Tim   April 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Oh my goodness! Sen. McCain has an economic plan! How brilliant! And how nice the media is to him! Billary and Obama fight it out like a couple of crazed wild dogs and here comes superman McCain with his economic plan. What economic plan? Do you really think that he's going to DEFINE what that plan really is? He certainly can't afford to lose his base, so he's not going to be very forthright in the details. We all know just how well the R's economic plans have worked so far, don't we? C'mon CNN and all of you corporate media moguls. Do some journalism and take this guy to task, will ya?

McGoo Who   April 15th, 2008 10:46 am ET

McCain's got the vote of this lifelong Democrat!

Obama the Fraud   April 15th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Here we go again, Republicans cutting taxes. Budget deficit here we come! Reaganomics 101 didn't work in the 80's and it won't work today.

LORD HAVE MERCY !   April 15th, 2008 10:57 am ET

John McCain says that most people who loose their home are in that situation because of their own mismanaging.

well i think it s true: YOU PEOPLE COULD MAKE SURE YOU MARRY A BILLIONNAIRE BEFORE YOU EVEN GET THERE ?

TALKING ABOUT AN ELITIST….
LORD HAVE MERCY

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.. Sorry I wont fall for this again… Thats why I am voting Obama. Hillary and McCain will do and say anything for votes it seems including say what people want to hear and not the truth.

JB   April 15th, 2008 11:02 am ET

I am a Libertarian so don't call me a Republican homer.(Most Libertarians are fiscally conservative and socially liberal.) It makes sense to let us keep more of the money that we earn. How will it help the economy when Obama or Hillary take away spending power from the people by raising taxes? Americans having less money to spend equals a slower economy. In stead of voting for folks who will raise taxes, just send me a check for 50 bucks a month if you really want to have less money in your pocket.

SDunn   April 15th, 2008 11:04 am ET

Some of these comments blow my mind. lol Ok John McCain has no clue! The economy isn't even what his focus is going to be on if he gets elected! It's going to be on Iran and Iraq. Republicans are already scheming about bombing Iran before the fall. Do we really want to go to war with the whole Middle East? Can you imagine what bombing Iran will do to our national security??? I can't imagine what McCain will do if he's President. He scares me to death. How are we going to pay for a war against Iran and Iraq????? People please think logically we're in debt up to our ears. What if our bankers tell us we need to pay back all of our debt tomorrow? then what??? we're in trouble! If we elect McCain we're doomed as a nation!

what happen after summer   April 15th, 2008 11:08 am ET

how aer we suppose to drive after summer if the price should drop just for summer. What kind of judgement is that.

GM from MN   April 15th, 2008 11:15 am ET

He's an idea McCain…..how about you say your gonna eliminate the tax breaks for the wealthy and invest it in Green Energy..

….what an idiot……his plan solves nothing. Where's the money for the tax breaks on gas and exemptions coming from?

Run that deficit up McCain……Don't let Bush down.

NickNas   April 15th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Bittergate??? She gets a BUMP in the Polls??

What does this tell us.

Hillary and Bill can do ANYTHING they want in this country THAT IS WHY THEY DO IT!

5 LEGITIMATE Scandals in as many weeks.
Laughing off ALL LEGITIMATE Questions of the people.
The 800K that Proves she lied
Too many lies to count actually

And she is UP in the Polls???

THIS is the new trend in MY country? Lies, deciet ,cheat, deny ,secrecy, renewed open racism?

I would like a list of every person who back this Team so I can make sure for the rest of my life I do NO business with them.

Hillary actually said " I will show who gave to our foundation and Library AFTER I get the nomination"

These Clinton bots have VERY LOW standards and expectations. Do you people also ask your BABYSITTERS to prove they are NOT child molesters AFTER you leave them with them for the WEEKEND???? ( Hint it is JUST as stupid for those who don't get it)

EBC   April 15th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Can we say flip flop, flip flop……

Farrell, Houston, Tx   April 15th, 2008 11:22 am ET

In a debate with Hillary or Obama, when John McCain is asked about his economic plan he will only be able to respond "you heard my speech read what I said", he won't remember a word because he had to read the whole thing which also means he still doesn't understand economics.

GM from MN   April 15th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Debbie and all others out there. Hillary and Obama both want to end the Tax cuts for the wealthy.

They simply will take that money and invest in Green Jobs.

Simple, effective, and will have long lasting positive implications.

Illinidiva   April 15th, 2008 11:27 am ET

McCain always speaks slow and softly. That's just the guy's speeching style and has nothing to do with liberal condescension.

As for the proposals themselves, I'm not sure that there's really anything that anyone can object to. It was populism + tax cuts. A temp. gas holiday will sure help lots of people out, including many independent truckers that Obama and Clinton are vying to represent. I haven't seen either of them address said crisis. As for road construction, I'm sure that McCain would argue that these funds are the biggest source of pork and wasteful spending in WA. It seems that many of the bridges, public works projects, etc. are meant to reward supporters with govt. contracts and pander to unions.

SDunn   April 15th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Darren???? How the heck are we going to be able to do anything in this country if we're still fighting a trillion dollar war with China's money?????

Are you serious?   April 15th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Is this a joke?

DF from Canada   April 15th, 2008 11:34 am ET

People like to tear down almost everything that John McCain says and does. Just because he is older doesn't mean he is dumb. In other cultures, older citizens are looked upon with respect because of their experience and knowledge. John McCain deserves the respect from Americans and also Canadians for how he has served his country from Viet Nam to this present day. Some of the ideas that he has presented in his economic plan, deserve serious consideration.

If I was an American citizen, I would seriously consider John McCain. He is not like President Bush. I would also seriously consider Hillary because she also has some great ideas. I would not consider OBAMA. He has to this point not really given a satisfatory answer in addressing the "WRIGHT" issue and he certainly has put his foot into his mouth about the "BITTER" issue. America would be "BETTER off without him

merle 7   April 15th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Lies Lies Lies McCain is a conservative when it comes to spending, so trust me he will definately have a lot of senior monents if he makes to the white house when it comes to his economic plan.

dems for the white house!

David   April 15th, 2008 11:38 am ET

nothing is going to change folks. these vipers are not looking after our best interests but in the interests of the military/industrial complex and the bankers. sad truth.

Funny how the people that like to TALK about how bad racism and sexism are for this country are the very same people that are using John's age to discriminate against him in this forum.

Hmmmm…, what's that word for that??

Independent   April 15th, 2008 11:54 am ET

well, not a bad start…I hope that Obama quits responding to the crybaby and gets busy again discussing issues with McCain.

Darth Vadik, CA   April 15th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Nobillary Andobama   April 15th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

The Recession….Liberal style

spoiled rotten Americans = Americans who think the government should bail them out from their SELF INDUCED financial problems = an "Entitlement" society = spending money on luxury instead of saving it = lots of debt = complaining that it is the government's fault that they are in debt = media fueled claims of a recession = looking to the government to bail you out = Barack Obama supporters = spoiled rotten Americans….

it sure is a vicious circle….it spins to the left in case you were wondering

America….if you think Obama will personally solve your economic problems because he makes a rousing motivational speech or will wave a magic wand if he is elected and all will be well….WAKE UP!

"HOPE" is not a method….just a nice sound bite

McGoebbels   April 15th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

HEIL MCCAIN! McCain will provide Americans with more Lebensraum!

Ron   April 15th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

THREE DECADES APENT IN WASHINGTON, WHAT HAS MCCAIN DONE FOR THE PEOPLE?

ALL OF A SUDDEN, HE GETS UP TO MAKE AN ECONOMIC PLAN?

WAKE UP FELLOW AMERICANS. IF YOU KNEW THE PLAN, THE REPUBLICANS WANT OBAMA OUT OF THE RACE SO THE CAN BEAT TREMENDOUSLY HILLARY IN NOVEMBER.

PLAY YOUR GAME SMART.

Democrat   April 15th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

You notice the word " temporary" included in the gas tax proposal ??? He needed to also say, —— just till the election is over. Many of his "proposals" are just areas he knows that the next Congress will attack and he`s trying to redirect/minimize the impact to Bush/ Republican policies that got us in this fix we`re in now.

Debby   April 15th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

Boy for someone that doesn't have economic experience this is a good plan, better then the one the Dems. have.

Independent-woman-voter-for-Obama   April 15th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Sure, let's vote for McCain & Rice, let's have our national debt keep growing from 10 TRILLION ON UP!

Let's stay in Iraq, UNTIL OUR NATION IS BANKRUPT.

LET'S CONTINUE TO BORROW MONEY FROM CHINA, DUBIA, SAUDI ARABIA, etc.

GO AHEAD AND VOTE FOR MCCAIN AND CONTINUE TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME IN COFFINS; LET'S CONTINUE TO SEND OUR TROOPS TO IRAQ & HAVE THE SUICIDE RATE FOR THE MILITARY TO CONTINUE TO RISE.

LET'S KEEP TORTURING OUR ENEMIES UNTIL OUR GOVERNMENT HAS TO GO TO TRIAL FOR WAR CRIMES.

If this is what you want, then go ahead and vote for McCain.

Independent   April 15th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

McCain`s the last to come forth with any solutions to our economic "fix" since he is part of the problem to begin with ( Republican Congress from 1998-2007).———– And, Hey !!! — How bout that War, Eh !!!!!

God Help Us!   April 15th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

It is about time for the media to report the truth on the Larry SInclair story! We also want to know if there was a connection to Doanld Young and Obama!
