Clinton and Obama have traded negative ads this week.

(CNN) – Less than a day after Hillary Clinton’s campaign released an ad that said voters were “insulted” by Barack Obama’s recent remarks about some small-town Americans, the Illinois senator’s campaign released a new Pennsylvania spot Tuesday that says people are “rejecting Hillary Clinton’s attacks.”

The 30-second ad opens with some members of a Pennsylvania crowd reacting badly to Clinton in Pittsburgh Monday when she said “I know that many of you, like me… were disappointed by recent remarks that [Obama] made.”

Says an announcer, “There's a reason people are rejecting Hillary Clinton's attacks. Because the same old Washington politics won't lower the price of gas or help our struggling economy. Barack Obama will represent all Americans. He offers a new approach….”

Obama himself adds: “When we get past the politics of division and distraction and we start actually focusing on what we have in common, there's nothing we can't accomplish…”

For all those people who are saying they would rather vote for McCain than Obama, if Clinton doesn't win the primary, you are DUMB. If you like Hillary because of her economic policies, then Obama's platform is more similar to Clinton than McCain. Why would you vote for McCain and against your economic interests? I fail to understand the logic here. If what bothers you about Obama is that he choose poor language to make a point, then how are you not bothered with Hillary's outright lies over Bosnia? Or McCain's confusion between Sunis and Shias? Let's try to be honest here: every candidate has had a verbal slip.

If this is the logic of "the salt of the earth," then count me as an elitist.

Mia   April 15th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

I find it interesting yesterday you let us play HRC's commercial but today you don't provide the same courtesy for Obama.

Interesting…

Michael Templer   April 15th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

Obama wouldn't have any negative ads in this campaign but when your getting hit you don't just take. Until Iowa no one was allowed to criticize Queen Clinton. He didn't in large part until she showed negative campaigning was working for her.

If it appears he is always responding it's because he prefers to be a counter puncher

I can tell you this about this bitter crap

we Obama supporters are fired up and ready to go and were going to show up and vote and vote with our pocket and drive the "Queen" or Anny Oakley back to New York

HEY… its not about bitter…..its about Obama calling people bigots..How can his super educated supporters not see that. You have totally lost any objectivity over this man and thats scary. His comments were wrong and there is no way to make them right. Of course, unless you are just denying his original comments and buy his re-vision of what he really said.

MD   April 15th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

BRAVO!!! But I don't think this ad goes far enough.

I think Obama needs an ad that shows Hillary lying to the American people about her trip to Bosnia and superimpose that diatribe over the actual footage of her receiving flowers or a poem or whatever it was she received from the 8 year old girl. People of America need to see her in "context."

I think Obama needs an ad that shows Bill Clinton telling the American people Hillary is old and forgets things, and then ask if we need a Commander in Chief that according to her own husband is senile?

Let's give Hillary a taste of her own medicine.

LL King in Ohio   April 15th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Once Obama said that American teachers are under paid. Why does he outspending so much money on the advertisement for the campaign? Does he know how much he has wasted in the large states, such as Ohio, without wining? Does he think American is too stupid to buy everything from TV ads? It apparent that what he’s doing is contradicting with what he’s talking.

We know Hillary Clinton is much more qualified than Obama.

All Hillary Clinton supporters will NEVER vote Obama!!!!

If this is all the dirt ya'll have on Obama - it is pathetic. I hope the PA folks can end it unless they want to see more drama which I think is part of human nature ( I'll get a beating for that). If you are bitter this will be over 04/25 if not…NC will.

There is nothing that a clinton supporter could say that would persuade me to vote for her. She is a destructive individual whose only goal is to destroy anyone or anything in her attempt to reach that which she believes she deserves — the White House. She is using a scorched earth campaign to ensure that if she is not the nominee then Obama will not be president. Shame on you Hillary. As a white, female over 50 I can state that Hillary Clinton does not represent my values or ideals. And as i have seen many clinton supporter state that they would not vote for Obama. I will never vote for clinton.

I guess I'm wondering if Senator Obama insulted the people in Pennsylvania, why are we finding out today that so many people in Pennsylvania are recording that hit nailed in on the head what they are feeling. I even saw one person tell Fox News to take a hike because he said it exactly how the man felt. Funny how the Allentown newspaper changed there support to him after he made his comment.

Mike   April 15th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

RJ, who are you trying to fool. Obama can and don't proclame to be able to do more than hillary on the economy. If truth be told hillary's eco plan was out a whole 2 weeks b4 his. So don't talk the issues. He lacks in that department. hehehe Just like his true(joke) universal health plan.

"If Hillary really wanted to she could squish you like a bug."

That has got to be the most ridiculous statement on this blog!!! Hillary wants nothing more that to "squish him like a bug"! Problem is…everytime she tries…it backfires. Are you even thinking before you type??? Or maybe you really do believe the hype…..

alejandro   April 15th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Really guys give Hillary a break,(jejeje) she does not know better…besides….this kind of smart / new / true politics has been a problem for her. She can't out think it, nor catch up is to fresh, even for a professional as her. If you argue the right way you never can be wrong. But unfortunately Hillary does not argue…she just formulates a lesser version of the truth, changes words, waits to see what senator obama is preparing to do, then act. Is really poor the way she has let her campaign be managed, this whole situation, has been extremely poor. It is true, what they say, once you ran out of arguments, lies and confusions take place. We do not need confusion in trouble times. We need to be focus and that ladies and gentlemen is a fact that the Hillary campaign has to deal with, and probably has them "BITTER" over it.

Terry   April 15th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

First of all, you haven't been keeping up Sounds familiar - Obama won in Texas - the delegates are now 9+ in his favor with 4+ in the super delegate count. Sorry - but the caucus overturned the republican influx from Rush Limbaugh's attempt to fault the system during the primary.

Next check the polling happening with the Columbus Dispatch and Cleveland Plain Dealer - Obama now has a 46-44 and 47-41 lead respectively in how a re-vote would occur when they do the Ohio State Delegate count in June.

As far as I'm concerned. I voted for Hillary - in the primary here - but I've become so sickened with her and her supporters gangster approach to win a nomination, she won't get it again.

Can't wait for November 08   April 15th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Is Hillary naive, have her head stuck in the sand, or what? Does she not realize that the criticism she feels now will only mutliply many times IF she is the Democratic nominee (courtesy of the "smoke-filled" back-room super delegate vote)? Republicans and right-wing minded bloggers and organizations are sharpening their written and verbal skills and waiting. Just waiting for Hillary and Bill to be the nominees (realize that whomever her supposed VP choice is - - -it's really Bill). She hasn't felt their sting yet. They will bring up every scandal of the Clinton era - whether she was an active participant or not and remind people that Bill is "rattiling" around the White House again. She can't and shouldn't play the "don't pick on me because I'm a woman card" - - she's running for the PRESIDENT of the United States. She may be electable in New York, doubtful in the nation.

Evelyn   April 15th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

He has not one to blame but himself for his own words that go against the core of his campaign of hope and change. What he said, where he said it, and how he said it all contributed to this major gaffe that did reveal an elitist attitude. It's like going to visit someone and acting one way and then going back home and gossiping about them.

He is shooting himself in the foot by attacking others for his own words. He should just own up to it big time and apologize big time.

The champagne corks are popping at the RNC!

They are too close on the issues. The only thing left is character attacks for Hillary to try to steal the nomination. Then McCain will be president and we will have the Clintons to thank.

I would be very surprised after this if she is reelected to her Senate seat.

Lisa   April 15th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Clinton supporters are just that, 'supporters'. They are defending her words against Obama.

Most people aren't offended from a word - "BITTER"

Everytime Clinton bounces the ball with criticism, Obama should throw one right back from the 3-point line and get nothing but net.

Mike for texas   April 15th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Obama , you got my vote.

Rick from NJ   April 15th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Obama needs to be completely transparent before McCain gets a hold of him. He won't just attack him for being an elitist. The Republicans have such a slew of issues they can blast him with, they won't give up.

Reverend Wright
Muslim country upbringing
William Ayers, a radical terrorist that is now speaking on another news station.
His church supporting a "Nation of Islam" leader, Farrakhan
Criminal friend, Tony Rezko, from Chicago
Michelle speaking about "mean" American and not being proud of America

The list is endless.

If this is truly a Democratic Blog, support Hillary or McCain will win this contest.

Traditions   April 15th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

I think people are twisting Obama's words, including Obama himself after trying to save face. He said exactly what he said. It is even more telling that what he said was at a closed, private event in San Francisco.

He was not just merely pointing out that people in small towns in PA were bitter because they want a change. He was putting down voters that do not support him. He said that they cling to religion, guns, anti-immigrant sentiment, etc. out of bitterness. And that somehow explains why they are not inline with Obama.

Tim from Eugene OR.   April 15th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Anyone from a small town or big city that isn't "bitter" must be part of the 28% that actually think Bush is doing a good job. Obama is a better man than I because I would have spent at least a million dollars just running an ad with Hillary recalling her Bosnia event on one side of the screen and the actual footage of the truth on the other side of the screen, over, and over again. I don't mind so much hearing the the nasty comments from woman that idolize Hillary and really want to see the first woman president. What gets me is the bigoted folks who would really never vote for any black person. As for anyone who would throw this country down the drain and actually vote for a republican after this last 7 years that claim to be democrats, if their candidate dosn't win, well that is just insane!!! The economy is collapsing for a reason. Pure unchecked greed. I will hold my nose and vote for Hillary if she somehow manages to steal the nomination from Obama . We all knew that a day would come when we would have an Afro-american run for president. All you men out there that say you would throw your vote to McWar if Hillary is not elected as the nominee, are probably just closet bigots at best!
Go OBOMA 08

pablof   April 15th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

It's nice Obama did not to respond to H. Clinton's add with another negative one. Very effective.

We will need to rally around whoever wins the nomination and at this point looks very much like Obama will win. I doubt that many of Clinton's base of supporters would actually vote for McCain when they find out he left his wife to marry his present wife and with her family's wealth got him into politics in the first place. Or perhaps they just love his flipflopping on issues.

alejandro   April 15th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Get use to these Clinton fans! If you think the republicans are going to sit on all of the goodies, you’re kidding yourselves. These are just a few things for you to look up about the very dark side of Hillary and Bill. (Not counting their impeachment from the Whitehouse).
FIRST FIRST LADY to come under criminal investigation
FIRST FIRST LADY to almost be indicted according to special prosecutors
NUMBER of Hillary Clinton fundraisers convicted of, or pleading no contest to, crime: 5
NUMBER OF TIMES that Hillary Clinton, providing testimony to Congress, said that she didn't remember, didn't know, or something similar: 250
NUMBER OF CLOSE BUSINESS partners of Hillary Clinton who ended up in prison: 3. The Clintons' two partners in Whitewater were convicted of 24 counts of fraud and conspiracy. Hillary Clinton's partner and mentor at the Rose law firm, Webster Hubbell, pleaded guilty to federal mail fraud and tax evasion charges, including defrauding former clients and former partners out of more than $480,000. Hillary Clinton was mentioned 35 times in the indictment.
More. Jorge Cabrera, Mark Penn, Peter Paul, Abdul Rehman Jinnah, Whitewater, Frank Giustra, Johnny Chung, James Riady, Ng Lapseng, Monica Lewinski. Filegate, Travelgate.
Look up these names, it makes her Bosnia and health care stories seem bland.
I am an independent. I seldom vote democrat, but McCain is an idiot. Obama 08!

I'm so glad to see Barack hit her back.

The people of Pennsylvania are smart. They know that all Barack was trying to say was that both the Clinton and the Bush administrations have failed to protect people's jobs in small towns from being shipped overseas. They felt frustrated and ignored by both parties, so instead of voting on economic issues, they voted on social issues.

Barack has a much better understanding of what is going on in America and his electoral roadmap to victory is very different from Hillary's. He is actually listening to the people in the red states and respectfully asking for their votes. Democrats can no longer ignore them and expect to win a general election.

Sorry Obama, Your Wrong.

You were wrong in making your statements, and your fumbling to explain them you told us "you know your bitter" That was as bad or worse than the first statement.

Hillary and McCain can never catch up to you on smear tactics, half truths, mudslinging, misleading remarks and lies. Blaming and condemning, demanding records. You have the corner on that, since the first day of your campaign.

Hillary has been saying that the whole campaign. To get all departments to work together in government. No matter which party they affilate with.

Again, Hillary has taken the lead and Obama just follows and gives us rhetoric. This is just like the debates where he copied her.

Remember the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes"?

Hillary is like the emperor (empress) who's parading naked in the streets wearing her new "clothes." And, there are crowds cheering her along and, though they see that she's naked, they're all pretending that she isn't. That is, until a child sees that she has nothing on and brings it to the crowd's attention.

Despite everyone being told that the empress is wearing new clothes, and the empress actually believing that she's wearing new clothes, the child is not caught up in the collective delusion. He SEES the truth and SHOUTS it for what it is.

No matter what the empress Hillary and her followers want to believe and pretend to be real, she IS naked.

And, it's an ugly sight.

Obama is our hope for the future. Obama 2008!

I was up late last night with my girlfriend watching YouTube clips about Obama, and then some of Clinton. We were comparing speeches and looking at other clips and I was sort of taken aback at the venom in my gilfriend's catty attacks on Obama Girl. That's when I came to the conclusion that my girlfriend has a crush on Barack Obama!

I then realized that the secret to effective public speaking is that it is possible to reach out and touch people, to really move people - and in moving people, create a movement of people - only if you fervently believe in what you're saying. Is it any wonder, then, that both Clinton and McCain are such lackluster orators? It is impossible to fervently believe in pandering soundbites.

Would it be elitist of me to say that the vast majority of you people employ the grammar, spelling and punctuation of third-graders? In this, the richest, most powerful nation the world has ever known, there is just no excuse for being stupid, fat, willfully ignorant fools. How can I be an elitist? I never went to high school.

Harvey   April 15th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Another gaff when this neophyte is speaking off the cuff, along the lines of "…being punished with a baby." I hope and pray the remaining uncommitted super delegates realize that there is more to come, and will not vote to nominate this disaster waiting to happen. Speaking as a black man, I say so what if we (blacks) stay home in November if Hillary is nominated? The consequences: Hillary won't carry South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and all of those other red States that is tipping the scale for Obama. Well, duh! On the other hand, if Obama is nominated, he won't carry the blue-collar vote, the marginal women's vote, the Hispanic vote, and the Jewish vote (bye bye Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico - and, John McCain can measure the White House for drapes). Wake up! Let's be analytical about this!

E Nelson   April 15th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

Actually Obama won Texas. Some people aren't smart enough to count beyond the ten fingers they have on their hands.

But then again why would we want facts to get in the way of an election.

"I was for NAFTA before I was against NAFTA"

Hillary Clinton

"I was for the war before I was against the war"

Hillary Clinton

"I was against guns before I was for guns"

Hillary Clinton

"I was for sniper fire before I was against it"

but I'm not looking forward to saying "I told you so" .. AGAIN… to all morons who will be coming off the Obama kool-aid high in a year or two..

Hillary is a Republican in a Democrats clothing (i.e. George Bush's "I don't see anybody coming out of the Dems but Hillary" mini endorsement before the primaries started) She has voted for many of Bushes policies, hell she is the wife Daddy Bush's surrogate son Bill. THEY VACATION TOGETHER!!!! HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!! The plan is Bush Bill Baby Bush Hill Jebby Bush Chelsea… DYNASTY!!! LOL Change is here…Obama '08. Why do you think the Republican put up their duds this year, now they see Hillary Bush is not going to win, she's on a Kamikaze mission to sabotage this race for the next best republican thing…McBush! VOTE FOR CHANGE OR MORE OF THE SAME…Obama 08

An then Fred what? how in the world you think you man is going to win the Whitehouse WITHOUT ALL 50 STATES

He made sure 2 states get no vote at all and then sets his supporters presure Clinton to withdraw which would DENY 8 states and 2 territories of any choice of candidate. WHAT A MAN…. NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY….

HEY OBAMA I VOTED FOR YOU!!! I REGRET IT!!!! MAKE SURE YOU COUNT ALL OF OUR VOTES…. MAKE SURE YOU HEAR ALL OUR VOICES…

Rich   April 15th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

To those saying Obama always copies Clinton…if that were true he would have been making lies up about her or at least milking her problems with the Bosnia blow up for all they are worth. Obama is smart enough to hear the wisdom in others, even his opponents, but he also exhibits judgement about things that he should not do.

Oh, and the idea of turning down lobbyist and PAC funds in favor of smaller donations from average Americans like me….just copying Hillary and scraping by with the bills, right?

Nanc, MN   April 15th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

For someone who's all about hope and the future Obama sure uses a lot of his "poor me" past. I, for one, am tired of it.

Lots of us have been poor at one time or another, so what? Too many people grow up in single parent households, so what? Too many children go to foster care, not to loving grandparents, so what? In other words these are challenges millions live with every day and that doesn't make anyone special, sad maybe, but not special. You didn't know true poverty, lack of love or support, abyssmal school systems etc, etc. So get over your self.

The scraping snow story really doesn't cut it for me, I'm from Minnesota, home of endless winter.

This harping back to your past is beginning to smell like a whiff of "oh, poor Barack, such a tough life" deperation. You wouldn't know a truely tough life if it jumped up and bit you on the butt.

Kate   April 15th, 2008 5:27 pm ET

Obama is telling the truth- small town America has been overlooked for too long and it's time that someone does someone to help! We are bitter, but that is to be expected after all the Clinton's and Bush's never did anything to support us. We're tired, cranky, need jobs and YES- even bitter!
OBAMA 08!

Lee   April 15th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

I find the "Hillary or McCain in 08, Obama never." comments interesting. I suppose their purpose is to try to bully people into supporting Hillary over Obama. On the other hand, it's more likely an indication that Hillary is really a moderate republican.

The fact that CNN is calling this "bitter-gate" is also worth mentioning. How a single comment can be compared to the Watergate scandal is beyond me. Was there also "sniper-gate," or "NAFTA-gate?"

DW   April 15th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

As a independent, who will be voting for Mccain in the fall, I am very pleased with the developments in the Democratic Primary. I can only hope that Clinton pulls off a victory through tricks and deceit and lies, so that the Democratic Party as a whole can reasess after its impending loss this fall. Democrats have a lot of growing up to do, and this election is going to bring that to the forefront. It would be just wonderful to see Hillary win the nomination in direct contradiction to the will of the voters. I am rooting for you Hillary, so that your party will learn and come back stronger in the future. This november's general election was the Democrat's to lose, and you have already lost it. It would be great to see Obama run as an independent in the general election as well.

Mccain 08

Hillary: Democrat or Republican?

Good response, Obama. Let's see another!

Obama has been honest throughout the campaign. People are bitter — from rural PA to SF, CA. Hillary, on the other hand, has been dishonest and chameleon-like. Her latest role: the Wicked Witch of the GOP. All she can hope to achieve is the terminal fracture of the Democratic Party and a McCain presidency. Could this be her true intent? After 8 years of the disasterous Bush Admin., we cannot risk it.

This 45 year old woman is for Obama!

Oregon IS Obama   April 15th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Hillary is so out of touch with real every day people. If she is still hanging on by a thread on May 20th , Oregon will send her a message , that even she can understand.

Tim   April 15th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

Awesome! Hopefully the people of PA will be smart. Hopefully Hillary will be out of the news soon.

Tejano, you are an ignorant fool. It is because of uneducated people like you why America is not realized its potential. Not to mention your English and writing skills are atrocious. You should have finished school and made something of yourself.

huntington   April 15th, 2008 5:22 pm ET

First all the polls show that this misstatement did not result in any decline in Obama's polling. So the good people of PA seem to know a political hit job when they see one. Obama's comments were ill advised and a bit simplistic but were not "elitist." And, the important point is that he doesn't lie repeatedly to the American people in order to get their votes. That's Hillary's territory. Obama's statement reflects an analysis that Bill Clinton himself provided in his autobiography and others as well (Thomas Frank in What's the Matter with Kansas). I suspect Hillary knows this too but is just using this episode to pander to the voters. Now that's elitist!

Sean   April 15th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

To all of you Terroristic Hillary supporters: Stop trying to threaten Obama supporters! We will not back down. We will let Democracy decide! Our votes matter as much as yours, and if you win the popular vote, the most number of states, and the most delegates, then your candidate will be the Democratic nominee in November. End of story! If you want to leave the party out of spite, please do. But don't threaten us!

Richard   April 15th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Just for the record, Obama is a Harvard graduate that was raised first by a single mother and then later by his grandparents. After graduating from Harvard instead of joining any firm in the U.S. he returned to Chicago and worked as a community organizer, university lecturer, and civil rights lawyer. Where is his elitist background? Now compare that to Senator Clinton's upbringing and history. Wake up people.

BARACK OBAMA - Change we can believe in!

Mike   April 15th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Obama supporters are too funny. Let me tell you this, your boy Obama has told many lies AND insulted half of america. His new politics is rubbish and his name was mentioned again in the tony rezko trial again yesterday. He and his wife attended a party that was thrown in honor of an Iraqi guy with ties to hamas and hezbola. just wait it is coming and when the tie is made america will look at Obama supporters and laugh at you for voting for someone you don't even know.

Matt Blackstone   April 15th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

I loved how Hillary called Obama an "elitist." Clinton's Yale Law Degree, 8 years of living in the White House, 8 years being first lady of Arkansas doesn't make her an elitist? Maybe the only time she wasn't priviledged was when she had to take cover and run from sniper fire.

Kenneth M.   April 15th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Good move Obama, right on target. Hillary is like an old boxer. She cant help but lie when the bell rings. She could have gotten more milage out of this is she would have just kept it mild and let the voter and rep party jump on this. She shows that she has not integraty every time she gets a chance. There is not dif between stratigist Penn and who ever she as now. sos

Retired Navy Veteran   April 15th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Many of the Veteran endorse Senator Obama. Hillary Clinton is a liar and vandictive person. The Clintons let the dogs out. People we need to get on the phones and make new phone calls. If Hillary has called on her supports to launch a smear campaign on all levels.

This may flop…..

Tony G South Holland Illinois   April 15th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Look people all that are believers in faith no that when our lives are tested by the economy, job lost and the war. Those things that directly affect you will bring you closer to you God. He didn't say you already didn't believe, but the trials will bring you closer, not only to God but all the other issues that confront our lives. Jobs being outsources, the infringement on our second ammendment rights. Slow down and smell the coffee. This is just another way to dodge the real issues. No one in the media that includes CNN harped on the Gov. of Penn. in his remarks on "whites in that state will not vote for a African American" their was no denial on his part, but the media harps on Rev, Wright. Clinton misspoke on Bosnia. She "lied" and now it's a joke. If Obama's words were ill chosen, he has acknowledge that. Lets move on and get back to the real issues. What about Clinton's remark that if she weren't the nominee that McCain would be the better President. What about that "AMERICA"?

Sean   April 15th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

I can't swallow the idea that Hillary's supporters really believe all the stuff they say on comment boards like these. Do they really believe that Hillary has run a clean campaign and Obama has run a divisive one? Or, as one mature poster wrote about Obama, "he started it with his mailers"? Or another who actually quoted Hillary's line "change we can xerox" - a line that drew boos when she used it in a debate? Or calling Obama a racist? It's like I'm living in bizarro-opposite world. But then I guess it makes sense that posters who will say anything regardless of factual merit would certainly be drawn to Hillary's campaign….

Eric   April 15th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Guess what Noah, millions of Americans are bigots. You won't change that by ignoring it and pretending everyone loves everyone else. You have to expose it to the light to kill it. He shouldn't have backed off his comments at all.

Pat, Indiana   April 15th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

. . .Great work. Hillary is only ahead by the same 6 pts. That only means that she is still too far behind to win. Once again, her lies did not work. Go Obama.

Sean   April 15th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

North Carolina: Your vote will count. You didn't break the rules. MI and FL, however did, and their votes will count in November. Please do not try to threaten the majority of voters who, to this date, have voted for Obama. You try your Clinton tactics and underhandedly insinuate that a vote for Obama is un-American. And the terroristic threats of voting Republican if we don't meet your demands of forcing the majority leader out of the race isn't going to work. I will not change my vote.

Obama '08

PAVoter 2008   April 15th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

Obama is outspending Hillary 3-1 and still can't catch her. He went behind closed doors and panders to his Latte Liberals, let's his true feelings slip with the redneck stereotype and you still worship at his feet. It will not go away. Add this to 20 years of indoctrination at the Wright church of hate, his "typical white person" comment and the rest of his and Michele's questionable comments and you have an unelectable candidate.

Look at the polls that calculate electoral college votes for a general election — those are the only polls that matter. Obama is waaaaay behind. Hillary hovers around a dead heat with McCain. Just ask Al Gore how important the popular vote is.

Go ahead you brainwashed nutjobs. Throw this election away like you've thrown the last two. You don't deserve the Clintons. They are too good for you. It is gross how Democrats have thrown them under the bus to follow this pied piper off the cliff. Go study Watergate — you're being Watergated…again.

mary, Dallas, Tx   April 15th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

North Carolina,

He didn't make any state lose their vote. Their elected official did.

Obama 08

Ted   April 15th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

Here's an interesting question to consider:
Obama makes controversial, but genuine observations about the current state of parts of the union, relying on voters to determine if there is merit in both sides of a controversy.

Clinton responds by trying to convince voters that she is some how not an elitest and that her life is just another example of an American down on their luck struggling to get by.

Which one of these two views is really questioning the intelligence of voters?

RDT   April 15th, 2008 5:17 pm ET

I'm learning a lot about our country watching this whole process unfold. I think we will discover something different about where we really are as a country than what we would like the world to believe about us.

Confused   April 15th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

I'm lost as to how an attack ad is "the politics of change."

Any amount of lofty rhetoric can't hide the fact that this is also an attack ad. Hello, that's American politics.

Don't say you're above it, and then release something like this.

On another note, it doesn't matter. The damage is done. Thanks to you, I understand that I must be a gun-toting, Bible-thumpin' redneck because I don't buy into your campaign.

You can kiss this vote goodbye.

JB Cal   April 15th, 2008 5:16 pm ET

Hey North Carolina, I'm very much an American, and I'll be voting for Obama.

Steve   April 15th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

These days a politician can't say ANYTHING without offending SOMEONE. Hillary does it on a daily basis. Barack does it once in a while. The idiots that are so outraged and offended by what he said should really listen to what he was trying to say. He was trying to say that there are people all over the country who are struggling with bills, with healthcare, with fuel costs, and with losing their jobs, and they are bitter about it. They need help, desparately. Maybe he didn't say it in the Happy Kingdom of Make Believe language that Clinton and McCain would have liked him to say it in, but he has experienced poverty himself, and knows there isn't anything happy about it. Hillary and McCain, both people of priviledge and wealth, don't have a clue what it feels like to have $200.00 in food bills for a family, and $150 left until the next unemployment check comes in. While they're twisting Obama's words and attacking him, they're doing absolutely nothing to help the American people.

If you like the way you are living now, vote Clinton or McCain. I guarantee you, nothing will change except the increasing bank accounts of these two serpents. Vote McCain and your kids' kids will be sent to Iraq. Vote for Clinton and you will soon be entertained by special prosecutors, indictments, and an ongoing family tradition of impeachment.

Swampdweller   April 15th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

I was concerned that Obama was getting off message. It's heartening to see him defending his campaign against these fruitless attacks and at the same time turning back to the core issues he has been running on.

I'm a small town guy, 59 years old and lily white. I've been lucky in life, but I understand how disillusioned people have become with the old guard of previous administrations. The other two candidates with any chance at the Presidency don't offer anything new

Is Obama the the guy for the job? Maybe nobody is; it's a big job. But I do know that he is our best chance to get out from under the oppressiveness of the last decade and start to reclaim this country. He got my vote in our primary and he'll get my vote in the general.

patty   April 15th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

J.R.(PA., via Canada)   April 15th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Senator Obama just stated the truth, maybe the words didn't sit right with some FOLKSA, but he didn't LIE! Talking and saying up front what people have being saying for 20+ years as their jobs have been slipping away and watching America slip in a Recession, yes Recession! Face the Truth! Finding and asking God why instead of the 20+ years of Government's and their Lobbyists who are making Multi million dollars (Clintons too) with their off shore partners. Isn't it any wonder people are bitter, angry, fustrated, and other negative reactions they can express. Yes, Obama is right instead of worrying about the Right to Bear Arms, and what Faith one is! These issues don't pay ones debt, buy food, put gas in the care, help our families to live a Truly Good American Dream - Its More like a NIGHTMARE!
And, if H. R. Clinton thinks because she had a truly good lifestyle and sliver spoon education and so on - these issues are more important than I will not vote for her. She and others like her should get a Reality Check, by Dr Phil!

Michelle   April 15th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Is it just me or isn't Hillary Clinton's view on superdelegates "elitist"? Her position is essentially that superdelegates can overturn the will of the people and vote for whichever candidate they think is best, even if the people have clearly chosen another candidate as shown by the popular vote and the number of pledged delegates allotted. Honestly, Clinton's spin on Obama's comments certainly has my head spinning, as does her blatant hypocrisy.

Alston   April 15th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Read below OBAMA'S ACTUAL COMMENTS.

He's absolutely right. Those left behind will always harbor some resentment esp. when the government is not doing anything to help them.

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," he said.

"And it's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he added.

pauline   April 15th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

How can Hilary pretend by saying that she help solve America's economic problem? Remeber, she is part of the elite Washington that has destroyed once economically the most powerful nation on earth has now been forced to borrow money from nation it regarded as enemy. Can you beleif that we're now borrowing money from China to suport the economy. I wish we can look beyond the skin color perpective. Barack Obama speaks truth to power. He was not "judging" ordinary small comuunity people, he was explaining their despair. Peope ARE bitter. Angry and bitter. Some, probably all of us, everywhere, DO turn to things we think we can count on or that give us comfort. We also turn to Obama because he is different - in a really good way. Hillary just got schooled. Again. Over and over. She comes out swinging and Pennsylvanians said "oh please". Hillary thinks you are mindless sheep, people, wake up! Obama says it like it is; Hillary says it like whatever she thinks is best for her campaign that day. Please, please, Pennsylvania, help the nation get back on it's feet. Obama is the best hope here, not Hillary. Don't let her tell you how to feel. She will say anything to try to hurt Obama, whether she believes what she is saying or not. Do you want that in a President? We have already had that for 7+ years! End this nonsense. Vote Obama.

Paul, You are one BITTER guy.

Barb Canada   April 15th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

what are you saying you have in common with the people? After calling them all racist, are you saying you are racist too?

Mike H   April 15th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

How in the world can Hilliary call someone else an "elitist"!?!? That is laughable. Isn't she the former first lady? Didn't she "loan" her campaign 5 million dollars? I don't think Obama has 5 million dollars laying around. Didn't she serve on the board of Walmart? Wasn't she a partner in a law firm? Didn't she graduate from Wesley and Yale colleges? I don't know about you but all of that sound pretty elite to me.

She has some nerve calling Obama an elitist! More proof that that woman will say or do anything…..

CJ   April 15th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Why can't the man admitt he's wrong??? He needs to get rid of his pastor, come clean with Rezko, tell us about the relationship with Ayers and apologize for slamming rural America…oh yea, and do something about his loudmouth wife-she's disgusting…

OZ   April 15th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Obama this, Hillary that. McCain this, that and the other. As president either of these people will need a miracle to make a positive difference in the country. Our current problems are bigger than these candidates and neither of them can do anything worthwhile without the sincere support of the people. So start thinking about what comes next because this November you're going to be part of the solution or the problem. No one is excused. We'll end up with the one we deserve.

fairandstraight   April 15th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

Senator Obama is being treated similar to the way America responded when Dr. King appeared on the scene. This is by far the most prejudice country there is. We all see Obama for what he is; he is a child of the most high God.

The Rev. Wright story didn't and won't work, neither will this. What God has for Sen. Obama is for him.

Obama 08!!!!

Keith Cornelius   April 15th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

First of all, All you Obama supporters and that includes you CNN
Learn what the word elitist means before you start using it…SHANE
You can be elite without being an elitist….Elite in simple terms so you obama supporters understand it, you have access to basically the best of the best..education etc… being an elitist is thumbing your nose at people who do not have those same opportunities regardless of the reason….That is why Obama got labeled what he is elitist…He was behind close doors with the wealthy and slammed the intelligence of rural america, not thinking anyone would hear….and they were not poor chosen words as he uses as his excuse….HE has a speech writer and reviewed the speech before he went behind closed doors…so who is kidding who……

HILLARY TAKE IT ALL THE WAY BABE !!!!!! 08 / 12

No to Obama   April 15th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

I see Obama, the great uniter, is once again trying to bring people together… to Hillary bash. He is very good at that, especially when he tries to divert attention away from his own blunders. His comments showed his true nature, they were not misrepresented by Clinton or McCain. What's worse is that he only apologized if they offended anyone, but still held the remarks to be "the truth". Gee, sounds like he practices the same old Washington politics.

Pat, UC Davis   April 15th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

There has never been a better example of the divergence between Clinton's negativity and Obama's positivity. He just said "Sorry, I won't go there, this is a distraction… next!!"

Some of the people on this board can't seem to respond to anything but negatives. Go home and show your kids this ad so they aren't just idolizing your hatespew. Really wanna help? Get off the message boards, "go home and take care of your kids before they rob me in ten years" (Chris Rock).

Obama isn't my god, and I hate Kool Aid. But he should be the next president, and if you're too paranoid or hate-filled to get with it, then go join Hillary's Institute of Tearing Down and be a part of the problem. Weak.

Alonzo Demetrius   April 15th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Goodness knows, I am full of "hope" that this man Obama does not become president of all us Americans who love our country more than our government.

Dave   April 15th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Hillary keeps setting them up, and Barak keeps knocking 'em donw.

It's a shame he's not able to focus this power on McCain already, and has to keep bothering with Hillary. She's never been even remotely electable due to all the baggage she's carrying and all the dirt the Republicans have on her. A Hillary ticket would just bring the GOPhers to the polls in droves… something McCain couldn't do on his own. And the campaign she's been running is reflective of what her administration would be like even if she did get there: ceaseless in-fighting, foul-ups, blunders, and poorly-covered lies. The sooner the voters shut her down, the better. Then Obama can get on to the business of taking down McCain.

Formerly Silent   April 15th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Where's the punchline? What exactly does Obama have to offer us small town Americans? Religion and guns can only go so far in helping with my bitterness…

Independent   April 15th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

Hillary for President of the United Snipers of Bosnia!

Trev   April 15th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Obama plants from the earlier speech booing. Oh no, what an effective response (not).

Obama: not ready for the general election.

John Smith   April 15th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

This issue is "not" about winning as Hillary would have all of us believe. Let me give you this, please read patiently:

Let us say Hillay wins and becomes the President of the U.S. Be honest with yourself,

1. How many Republicans will be willing on carry out her agenda?
2. How many people will she be able to bring together across the parties to get anything done?
3. How many Republicans will immediately start to plan to run against her after 4 years?
4. How many "old and new scandals" is this nation willing to undertake again?

You see, I am over 50 years old and have continued to follow politics all year round:

It is not about winning, it is about the strength to govern!
It is not about having solutions, it is about been about to carry out the solutions!
It is not about being a president, it is about being able to hold the "moral torch" and to bring the people together.

Hilllary cannot do any of these things, period. As Regan once said, people get the type of "government" that are… of them. We have made bad judgments over these years, and this is the last chance, I believe, that God has given to us to redeem our levels of ignorance.

Hillary 08
Obama bitter

JKT   April 15th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

This entire episode of Hillary attacking Obama over his comments actually made me switch from supporting her to supporting him. The absolute last thing she should be doing right now is attacking her fellow Democrat over petty stuff when the real opponent is McSame. Our country cannot afford four more years of war, four more years of tax the poor and tax cut the rich, but that's exactly what it will get if Hillary's negativity turn off potential Democratic voters. So thanks Hillary–you showed me before it was too late who you really are. I'll be casting my vote on April 22nd for the candidate who speaks the truth and offers hope instead of the one who will keep us mired in the same old sniping we've seen in Washington for far too long.
And I really do pity those of you who are sticking with Hillary. It appears you've lost all hope that things can be better than business as u
