I bet most of the people watching will support Obama, but they won't be old enough to vote or even registered… HAHA….

any campaign that relies on votes from young people are kidding themselves… ask Al Gore, and especially, John Kerry!

Kay-Arizona   April 17th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

Interesting since Obama had declined to appear a few days ago.

Spider   April 17th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

I have marked my calendar for today. This is the day when I said that, if Barack Obama is nominated and, by chance, wins the General Election, he will be one of those Presidents that everyone denies voting for when he finishes his term.

Some of posts over the past week have been so mean-spirited and self-absorbed that I've come to the conclusion that a lot of Republicans are posting phony hateful messages, pretending to be Democrats, just to try to set supporters for Clinton and Obama against each other. "Waaah - If my candidate doesn't win, I'll vote for McBush" ? Get normal, no Democrat would risk leaving the country in the hands of Ditto.

Nice try but it won't work folks. When the decision is finally made, Democrats will focus solely on taking back our country from the corporate thieves, hate-mongers, and incompetent fools who only care about themselves.

I'll look forward to seeing both excellent candidates on Colbert and ignore the media pressure to rush the democratic process to judgment!

This guy is such an embarrasment. He's always copying Hillary. She was announced to appear on the show several days ago and Obama said he wouldn't be on the show. Now all of sudden he's going to do the show. I guess he wants to cry some more about the unfair debate. Poor baby!

Hope for Unity   April 17th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Will Hillary and Bill accidentally become the Ralph Nader of this election? They did a lot of good work in the past. Even if they can't catch up in delegates, they do have a right to keep running, but will ego and need for attention help be that tiny difference, the tipping point, for Republicans to win the White House again.

I thought Obama didn't want to stoop to such antics. Didn't he say earlier that he wasn't going to do it, but instead have his wife make the appearance? He's running scared!! He definitely needs some comedic relief, considering his disasterous appearance last night in the debate.

We cannot afford 4 more years of G.W.Bush   April 17th, 2008 9:26 pm ET

No more bush. McCain, enough is enough!!!!

Obama really has a hard time loosing, get over it, so she won the debate, she's a better debater than you, also a better candidate, smarter, well mabe you've got good reason to be upset, sorry for your ego.

Penn State   April 17th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

LOL!!! Didn't Obama reject to appear on his show before? Obama needs some exposure now after Wednesday debate. Man he looked bad!!

Truly, Comedy Central is where Obama belongs. His whole campaign is one big Joke. The only reason that he is still around is because he gets free advertising from the likes of Blitzer, Cooper, Cafferty, Surriel and Olberman(MSNBC). They might as well wear t-shirts on the air that say "BIASED FOR OBAMA!!!

Go Obama 08 Yes We Can

Lynn D   April 17th, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Wow. I wonder why Senator Obama changed his mind. He said no thanks the other day. Must be because he is afraid that Senator Clinton will mop the floor up with him like she did last night. Disappointed that I will have to watch Senator Obama tonight. There he goes again trying to undermine Senator Clinton. Oh well, it won't work. Senator Clinton will win this thing and then she will win in November.

Andrew Howard   April 17th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

I hope Colbert actually interviews them seriously. He's funny and all, but his interviews are so frustrating, because he just interrupts everybody and uses their appearances as a forum for his self-aggrandizing brand of humor. It honestly gets a little old. Jon Stewart has found the happy medium.

Ana in L.A.   April 17th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I thought Obama was too good and too above doing something like the Colbert Report.

His advisers probaly got to him…

Walt, Belton,TX   April 17th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

Well, at least we know there will be two jokes on the program.

Mariann Pepitone   April 17th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

In the beginning I read that Obama turned Colbert down. After he heard that Hillary would be on evidently he changed his mind. I have never listened to Colbert but it will be interesting to find out what both candidates talked about. I know Obama lost the debate last night according to one of the networks. It appeared that Obama is not as quick answering questions as Hillary is. I am surprised for a college graduate.

Ann Kuminns   April 17th, 2008 9:44 pm ET

It is understandable why and how Lieberman will stump for McCain, but you can put the Clintons in that category now. Surely Clintons will leave behind the biggest legacy of all - destroyers of the democratic party. Let this be a lesson to any other politician: if you have such destructive beings in your party, ones who would do any thing and run over anyone, at any cost to win, you might as well as get out of that party because this will be the first step to the death of a party. Someday, when we tell our grand-kids, and great grand-kids about politics, this would be one of the greatest examples of self-destruction. All the NY voters should beware and remember this in a few years time.

paul   April 17th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

I wonder if he will ask Obama about his lies. He said during the debate that it wasn't his handwriting on the gun control survey, and it was, his campaign has admitted it was. Obama looked right into the camera and lied to get out of asking the question. I guess that's part of the campaign of hope and change. What a joke this man is, he acts like he is so above it all, when he is just a "typical" politician!

Apollyon   April 17th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I'll bet this'll be conducted in a more professional manner than ABC News debacle… and that's sad since Colbert' is a comedic show. Did anyone catch the "Will you promise to take the other candidate as VP if you win the nomination?" One: It's been asked three other times, and not even a moron would believe it'd be any different. Two: If one or the other did happen, it'd be a freakin' disaster. Obama wouldn't be able to trust Billary as VP. And Billary could trust Obama, but to be second fiddle to Bill? Why would ANYONE what to do that?

She claims Barack can't be trusted to do what he says. What about her being trusted? In anything? Her past accounts can't be trusted; the very words coming out of her mouth can't be trusted; so by making a reasonable judgement, she certainly can't be trusted to do what she says she is going to do. That's why only 38% of democrats believe she is trustworthy, compared to 69% for Obama.

( I wonder if that would have worked with my mom years ago when I got caught in a bald faced lie? "I'm sorry mom, I misspoke." She would have wooped my natural @ss.

Get Real   April 17th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

If it wasn't for the republicans funding & voteing for Obama, than Hillary would be miles out in front. When it comes to the general election, if Obama unfortunately get the nomination, then ALL the republicans will switch & vote McCain, not to mention All democrates who have the common sense not to vote for Obama.

Erin - WA   April 17th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

I hope Colbert asks both of them about flag pins — otherwise I am not voting for either of them. I am a stupid American and that is all that is important to me. The war isn't important. And the economic destruction of this country isn't important. Nor is all of the corruption. Only flag pins are important!!!

Teresa W. of Newport Bch, CA   April 17th, 2008 9:58 pm ET

Obama has brushed his shoulders of with Hillary — literally. He's is done with her and the attacks on his integrity, electability, and patriotism. She's pretty much lost the entrance of the nation's people after pulling her attack stunt and making republican comments about her fellow democrat. She's totally turn republican after attacking her democratic colleague with republican/racist statements.

Silly Season   April 17th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Howard, you needed a decision a month ago. Why are you so late to join the party? The Clintons have done major damage to the dem party and nominee Obama. Richardson, Leahy and others tried to tell you to get on ball. You wouldn't listen. HilLIARy needs to end her attacks and run a clean campaign or be forced out by superdelegates who are supposed to protect the party.

Tanya K   April 17th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

DEMOCRATS

I will vote for who ever the Democratic nominee will be.
I am a Hillary supporter, however I will vote for Obama.
McCain will be atleast another 4 years of the Bush policy.
Are you so stubborn and immature that you would vote for
McCain if your candidate does not become the nominee.
It is so very obviuos that you people are full of hate and

By now you are aware that Hillary is as tough as nails. She fought the republicans off,and they gave up.It is the reason most people are confident she can defeat John McCain in the General Elections.

I am Latino and was born and raised in the U.S. I have no idea why Latino’s are for Clinton or McCain.
I was on vacation in Fullerton California and the maid service back ground happened to be Latino, I ask her who she was going to vote for President and she paused and said I don’t know the people who are running.
Then not even a second later, she said Clinton. I asked her why and she said, I don’t know anyone else and I know the Clinton name.

Hillary Clinton was in Texas and said she lived in Texas for a whole entire 3 months, wow she is well to do.
She went on to say that’s where I fell in love with Mexican food and Mango Ice Cream. I I don’t know about the rest of Mexican people, but I am speaking about myself as a Latino American, this is called being patronizing and condescending.
She calls Obama out of touch and condescending, check yourself out and look into the Mirror Hillary; you are the most patronizing and condescending person in this election.

I want someone real who has the best interest of all Americans and not just convenient for a particular state at a particular time. Most people who are for Obama and even Hillary who can actually think outside of the box will agree that see uses these tactics all the time which is to be true patronizing and demeaning to our intelligent.

Latino’s don’t go thinking that Hillary or McCain has your best interest at hart because they have the same philosophy of fearing and using old politics’, instead of making us unite think and hope.
Latino’s the best thing for our Country is that Obama is the President for all Americans and not just some Americans.
Obama will win all types of votes not just color, gender, religions, Independents and yes Republicans. VOTE OBAMA!!

An American in Canada   April 17th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Obama is to arrogant to have a sense of humor, he would feel that you were laughing at him and not with him, even if it were his own joke. Very defensive man..

So this is how Obama does interviews, he tapes the show at his end and if they like how Obama looked and sounded they send the tape to Colbert.

If Colbert makes him look silly, they stop taping and blame it on technical problems.

Sounds like same old politicking to me, protecting the package (Obama) and control the message (Obama's writers)….

Nobama   April 17th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Obama said he will be so busy with his campaign that he will not have time to have another debate. But he has time for Colbert report?!

NObama is too scared about having another debate with HIllary after he showed he was such an incapable last night!

kicky   April 17th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

I am still interested to see which of the two candidates has a better judgment ,has better ideas for getting us out from this deep economic social and political crisis. I am less interested in knowing which candidate makes some errors in using the most appropriate word to define the dissatisfaction of people in some parts of our Land .Should we judge our neighbor or our leader by wearing a "patriotic pin " ?

I would rather watch reruns of the Pope being seranaded with happy birthday than listen to Obama stutter uncontrollably over his own rhetoric. Without memorizing his script or stealing from Hillary's answers, he is hopelessly lost.

Susan In Pennsylvania   April 17th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Ed Rendell was great last night, so this should be good too!

I thought it was odd that Barack declined to appear on the show, and I expected a surprise visit when his wife appeared earlier in the week.

I was not going to stay up to watch Hillary, but now I will.

I hope Obama gets "the bump"…it's all he needs to beat Hillary and end her pathetic campaign right here next week.

Her appearance on the Colbert Report was SO LAME. I'm surprised she didn't say she had to duck while coming into the show because she was under sniper fire like she did on Leno.

I do not care to hear big O. Obama just will find any excuse to whatever he messes up. NO fault on his side…everyone else is guilty of whatever, but him. How disturbing is this arrogance and ignorance. And dangerous. He has some good ideas, but is he going to be fair to all?
I admire Hilalry, not him. Sorry.

Elite Obama should return the 200.00 dollars that this Ayers guy donated to his campaign and he should reject and denounce him for living in his community and breathing the same air as all the rest of us. That should satisfy the Clintons.

However, the poor Clintons should return the 800,000.00 dollars the Columbians gave to Clinton to help promote the free trade agreement. Then they should tell the truth as to why they backed NAFTA and China PTR…..

That would be fair…..Right?

Thore from Chicago   April 17th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

Perhaps, Senator Obama will be helped in the upcoming polls that have not reflected his dismal, flat, and uninspiring performance in last night’s debate. Obama’s character and judgment are reflected in the answers Obama gave to last night’s tough questions. The questionable relationships connected to Obama’s judgment and character issues have been around for over a year. To me, it is astonishing that we are just finding out about these relationships and the main stream media never asked about them before. If we are selecting a nominee to represent Democratic Party in the General Election, we need know about Obama’s character – whether elitist or mangled speech or a anti-American Pastor moving into a 10 Million dollar mansion that Obama contributed $23,000 to last year – we need to know. Senator Obama truly is highlighting the silly season in politics today, so the Colbert Report is the perfect place for him. Also, the poll of poll numbers should not include pollsters like Zogby who is an ardent Obama supporter. SurveyUSA shows Senator Clinton ahead by 20 points In PA before the debate. Next Tuesday, will be the real test and all the polls will be meaningless, as they should, due to potential bias and margins of error averaging 10 points per survey.

I thought Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached that a person should not be judged by the color of his skin. I guess blacks did not hear that sermon. They are voting 90% for Obama because he is black. They certainly are not voting for him because of his vast political experience. I have voted Democratic since 1972. No more. I will not be a part of the pathetic and disgusting racism being displayed by blacks in this primary. Evidently blacks have been cioddled too long. We need to totally abolishg every part of affirmative action. Blacks need to wake up and realize that rejection is a part of life that we all have to indure, it is not necessarily racism. I am tired of slavery being used by blacks (like Rev. Wright) as a reason to hate whites and to hate our country. Slavery ended over 150 years ago!! Get over it!! And my forefathers, like the forefathers of most whites, were not slave owners. Hearing the hatred that blacks have for whites and our country has definitely been an eye opener for me. I was brought up treat all people the same. I truely believed in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But Obama and his followers are demonstrating what racism is all about, and they are embracing all of the hatred that goes with it. I hope I never sink to that level, but I will be voting Republican (which is close).

PA Democrat   April 17th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

How is it that Obama supporters demand that Hillary drop out, yet Obama has zero chance of winning the PA Primary???

Will the lunacy never cease? Hillary Clinton is the only chance to take back the White House in 2008. No one that I know will turn out a vote for Obama. Jeremiah Wright has as much chance to win.

If Obama is the nominee, I along with most Clinton supporters will vote for McCain. Thus, Obama has zero chance of ever seeing the Oval office. Wake all you Dems who chose Obama!

This should be pretty good to watch. I'm a pretty big Colbert fan and this campaign is starting to heat up over the last week or so.

Barack Obama maybe have stuttered a little but this is really the first time we've seen Obama slip a little, all of his other debates have been very solid and in some cases even inspiring.

Just watch how the media is going to swarm on every single word that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton speak.

Jennifer   April 17th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

In reference to the article CNN wrote about Hillary saying that the President decideds about Iraq, not the generals- see the YouTube of Obama's reponse in the PA debate. She has blatantly ripped off his words!

Tim   April 17th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

I am placing this comment because I am tired of the double standards imposed on anyone of color attempting to succeed. Why is there no reprimand or condemnation of Catholic politicians whose priests are child molesting pedophiles? Why is no one asking Hillary Clinton about her affiliation with a group that garnered support for the PLO while she was attending college? I cant believe that the American people are actually considering John Mccain for President. McCain's policies resemble Bush's to the letter. Do you really want four more years of a Bush like president?

Hillary please do the right thing, your'e a great candidate but enough is enough, bow out gracefully, don't bring scorched earth to the democratic party. If you really care as much about winning in november as you claim now is the time to show it. All you Obama & Hillary fans keep your eye on the prize. Trust me, the republicans are ecstatic right now, they can't believe that were so dumb as to let them possibly win in november, I promise you that half of these bloggers saying that they would never vote for Clinton or Obama are plants to get us to hate each other, WE HAVE A COMMON CAUSE, WHOEVER WINS THE NOMINATION WE MUST SUPPORT TO CHANGE THIS COUNTRY. bOTH OF OUR CANDIDATES ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL ON POLICY, NEITHER ONE OF THESE CANDIDASTES ARE BIGGER THAN OUR CAUSE, THEY BOTH WOULD DO A GREAT JOB, OPEH YOUR EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not just Hillary and Barrack, but John Edwards showed up too. Though I suppose that aspect of the show is not really as important to the election coverage.

More endorsements are coming this weekend.

I like that crazed Clinton woman. Did anybody else notice that she was doing an excellent imitation of the Joker in the debate, satanically grinning while poking Obama with one barbed comment after another? Fun stuff. She wasn't the least bit presidential, but, honestly, I think most Americans would rather be entertained than led. Our future's already Fubar'd. With the Clintons back in office, a proven source of entertainment, maybe we won't notice.

Disappointed Student   April 18th, 2008 12:05 am ET

I wanted so much more out of these interviews! At least they were pretty funny. And John Edwards was good too. Hillary seemed pretty awkward, and her "You can call me at any time… even 3:00 am!" was sad, but she was funny as well. Barack putting "distractions" on notice was good, too.

It was really nice to see both candidates in a humorous situation and to see that they could both (at least appear to) be funny.

Matt M.   April 18th, 2008 12:10 am ET

Great episode. John Edwards was a nice (and hilarious) surprise. I almost thought he would endorse Obama on the show. That would've been fantastic! As it was, with Stephen Colbert, Patrick Murphy, and Obama himself, we had plenty of "O-Train" support.

Obama '08

Obama has a much better shot at winning the general election. Many Repubs will vote for Obama. Not one will vote for Hillary.

I find it funny that Obama refused to go on Colbert… Until he found out Hillary was going to be on there. Then all of the sudden it was worthy of the messiahs time.

Hillary/Edwards 08!

Maybe Obama will complain more about last night's debate - poor Obama - nobody offered him a pillow or asked if he was comfortable. He finally got some tough questions and he crumbled.

Colbert and Obama should swap places on tonight's show. I'd rather hear Stephen mock the campaign process than more of the same chants and rhetoric from Obbie.

At least Stephen is a paid comedian. Obama… is just a joke.

TM in Sacramento   April 18th, 2008 12:36 am ET

Patrick Murphy was the star of the show tonight - his endorsement of Obama as a veteran of Iraq, bron in Philly, and now in the Senate -it was powerful.

Lynn Levine, Minneapolis   April 18th, 2008 12:38 am ET

Thanks for the heads up. I need to lighten up after lasts night's debate and my day today.
I was at meeting today and my foster daughter was told that all the programs designed to help her transition to independent living had been cut.
Instead of the despair that kind of statement has usually caused me, I thought, "Well, by the time she graduates High School Barack Obama may be President."

CollegeStudentinTX   April 18th, 2008 12:38 am ET

It was an interesting show.

This is my first comment. For the record, I notice many Clinton supporters state that if she doesn't win the nomination, they will vote for McCain.

Well, the Democratic Party will be even worse off not nominating Obama after winning the most pledged delegates and popular vote. Clinton would not win in November because Independents decide the elections in swing states; they either favor Obama or McCain. Clinton would only win the "blue" states while McCain would win every other state.

Obama is the only candidate that is able to win both "blue", and purple states this November because of his popularity among independents. He can even make red states competitive.

I am being logical; but Clinton is only more popular among Democrats, not both Democrats and Independents. Essentially, he doesn't need the votes of Democrats to win.

I could not vote for a divisive person for president. So as an Independent, I will take either Obama or McCain this november.

It looks that Senator Obama skipped on Colbert. He sent one of his surrogates. It looks he was upset at his lack luster performance on the ABC debate. He was afraid of Stephen asking him some 'Elite" questions.

What did Barack steal from Billary? Today Billary was using Obama's lines from last night.

I sent my tax refund check of $965 to him two weeks ago. And if he needs it, I'll send whatever I get for my "rebate". Can someone enlighten me as to what the maximum an individual can send into a candidate? Thanks.

Billary will be lucky to get re-elected to the Senate next time she's up. HA! Maybe she'll quit when she loses this race… ya know, like some of the republicans have done since they lost the majority in 2006. Most people figure that was her only reason for running for it in the first place.

Sandy   April 18th, 2008 12:48 am ET

Obama and Edwards were hilarious.

I think the whole thing might have been a 'Gotcha' moment against Hillary. She really came across old and tired. I imagine she thought she was going to get the funny lines, but hers were pretty dull and expected.

Obama rocked.

Frances   April 18th, 2008 12:48 am ET

Hello out there, Im talking to the super delegates. Are they listening to Obama put his foot in his mouth. The next day, I believe , after someone tells him what to say he always comes up with excuses.
As even Bush knows ,we have a saying in Tennessee. be sure brain is in motion before putting mouth into gear. How the delegates can even think of voteing for someone so slow to think is beyound me. If He is elected president and he makes one of his famous blunders, i am afraid we will get a missile up our red white and blue flag. Wake up, you know who is the bet person for the job, Now do what you were elected to do. Frances in Tenessee.

Kind of a warm up before she takes him on in the general election.

Obama has to think about what he is going to say. He is a target for every conserative,Clintonite, and cable TV. Evey word he speaks is under scrunity. McCain can goof up all day,and nothing is said, So if he stutter, and stalls for time,it is wisdom. He do not have the luxuary to get away with mistakes. He was right about people with out-sourced jobs being angery, and will turn to prayer in times of need. You will have to be born-again to know that.

I was there live! And it was phenomenal… They told us not to boo Hillary because this is Comedy Central and we don't want that kind of a mood to be set… but everyone was excited to see her when she appeared, regardless of who they supported. She was rather funny too. But I guarantee you, the roof would have blown off of that place if Obama showed up… the crowd was about 75/25 in favor of Obama.

Saw the program — Hillary was GREAT — I really LOVE her strength, and FIGHT. Obama wouldn't even appear — only via TelePrompter or whatever. I did not understand the stint with Obama at all — Oh well, just like all of his babbling in the debate last night — poor "BOY" he really lost that debate and he looked extremely not like a President — the man has much to learn and just way too many SKELETONS in his closet. Of course we have all the KOOL-AID Generation that thinks Obama is the Pied Piper. Wake up people — believe me– he is not the second coming — if anything he is falling in a hole he will not get out of. I do not want all of CLOSET SKELETONS running around the White House and especially that LOUD MOUTH wife of his — boy is she TYPICAL. Also Robert from New York — I AGREE 100% with you.
