Listen to Obama’s remarks on Clinton Thursday.

RALEIGH, North Carolina (CNN)-–Democrat Barack Obama said Thursday that rival Hillary Clinton was "in her element" at Wednesday night's debate, telling a North Carolina crowd she "took every opportunity to get a dig in."

He used his hands to motion brushing his shoulders off. "That's her right to kind of twist the knife in a little bit," he said, before adding that he understands why she's using what he calls the tactics of the GOP.

"That’s the lesson that she learned when the Republicans were doing that same thing to her back in the 1990s. ...So, I understand it," Obama continued.

"When you're running for the presidency then you’ve gotta expect it and you know you’ve just gotta kinda let it—" He paused, brushing his shoulders off with his hands before doing the same to his knees and pant legs.

"You know, it's what you gotta do," he said, to wild cheers from the Raleigh audience.

Obama's attacks echo a theme his campaign has been hammering, as well.

In a conference call with reporters Thursday morning, campaign manager David Plouffe said Clinton's recent negative ads in Pennsylvania are part of a "relentlessly negative campaign."

But before Obama directly took on Clinton, the Illinois senator took a swipe at the debate itself, sarcastically calling the back-and-forths the two have been having lately "inspiring events." He added that Wednesday's set a new record in his book.

"It took us 45 minutes before we even started talking about a single issue that matters to the American people."

All this at a time when it remains unclear whether Obama will commit to an April 27 debate in North Carolina. Coincidentally, an audience member asked him why he hasn't committed to that one yet.

Obama, as he has in the past, downplayed the relevance of recent broadcasts.

"I’ll be honest with you," Obama started, "you know we now had 21, and look, I mean the previous three, you know, we did very well, so its not as if we don’t know how to do these things."

Obama is so arrogant and back alley. You better pray he doesn't get the nomination. The Republican party wont make McCain back down from him. They will be brushing his dirt off their shoulders. If Hillry had said and done what he did she would be plastered all over the papers for picking on the poor boy. And yes that is what he is. He is a small arrogant spoiled rich boy that needs to grow up.

Chill Out   April 17th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Come on Jarad......ARROGANT!!! Because he brushed off the mud-slinging crap that wasted 45 minutes of the...."debate". What does the Weathermen 1960's radicals have to do with anything relevant to your life? Obama was 8 years old and living in Hawaii when these guys were around and you probably were'nt even born yet.

moe   April 17th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Hillary's tactics of non stop firing on Obama have turned even her ardent supporters to Obama . Look at Pennsylvania polls. She was ahead atleast 25 points, and now 5 points and dropping.

Go OBAMA Go, get the nomination and go after McCain and Company. He did the right thing by literally brushing her off.

little man   April 17th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Little men always talk big and are the most boastful. Trying to hide their shortcomings behind insults.

Trying to talk their way into having any importance at all.

Antoinette   April 17th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

bwahahahahahahahaha

I Caught that and i loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just brush her off Sen., Just Brush her off

Paul   April 17th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I keep scratching my head trying to figure out where people get the idea that Obama is arrogant and pompous. I have studied him closely and I just don't see it. He doesn't talk down to people. He doesn't rub Hillary's nose in her mistakes. He's opened up his life, thoughts, background and beliefs for everyone to see. He never shows that he's above answering the hard questions. He takes responsibility for his mistakes. He knows that being President is less about himself than it is about the people of the USA. He knows he can only accomplish things by connecting with good people.

Big man   April 17th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

His shoulders are not big enough to hold a woman of Hillary's stature.

That is why he had to cheat to try to win the nomination.

Even so, Hillary managed to hold her own- even with her voters disenfranchised.

Funny isn't it? Watch us in Nov when we remember to show the democratic party the same loyalty they showed the party members.

Mike J   April 17th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Priceless.

Took the high road yet again, even after that absurd excuse for a debate.

Doug   April 17th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Just wanted to send comments regarding the debate. I was dissapointed. I am a thoughtful person who cares abour real issues and getting things done. The questions and content of the debate were more more of a gossip and gotcha type issues. For someone who grew up through Vietnam, Watergate, etc... I typically admire the press for getting to the issues while politicians try to avoid the hard subjects and facts. Last night, i saw the reversal. Journalists (i.e. "entertainers?) asked irrelevant questions and are actually getting the public off track. One candiate (Obama) was steadfast, honest, and wanted to talk issues. Come on CNN – can you rise above this and talk issues or will we continue hear what someone's preacher said a year ago Sunday, or what white lie someone said to try and prove they have courage, or what lobbyist someone has dinner with? Keep doing what you are doing and talk about these frivolous things and and we will have more George W. Bush's and less Abraham Lincoln's, FDR's, JFK's, etc....
Deeply dissapointed in with this debate.

yael   April 17th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

This was the most even-handed debate to date. Obama's followers believe that any questioning of their leader is heresy.

David   April 17th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

That's awesome. This guy knows what he's doing.

Chris from San Antonio   April 17th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Telling isn't it, when Hillary uses Republican tactics and Republican talking points.

dAnnE   April 17th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Is that not the American way...when knocked down, get up, dust yourself off, and keep moving forward? That is exactly what Obama is trying to show. Humor is the only way that I will get through the rest of this season. Come on people (i.e. Hillary supporters) lighten up.

Get...That...Dirt off your shoulders...and slacks in Obama' case. lol. Thanks for the laugh Obama.

Nov payback   April 17th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Unfortunately you may actually win the nomination- due to all the corruption the DNC introduced into this primary.

You may win even though you are the lesser candidate and Hillary is clearly the better option.

The DNC placed their bets on you instead and now we are all stuck with their bad judgement and the consequences of their ineptitude.

But... The Hillary democrats are as tenacious as their candidate. We will NOT forget. NOV is payback day.

KIKI   April 17th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Listening to Obama speak – he's not very well spoken. You morons who think this "Savior" is going to change our country are so pathetic. Be careful what you ask for.

Citizen-Denver   April 17th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Good job Barack, last night she was acting like evil. Hey Barack, No More debates with this JOKES, she is trying to make you unelectable and look forward in 2012. Keep campaigning because she out of cash and she cannot compete any longer. All she can afford now, is to debate and talk trash. Go Barack . I will vote for you no matter what.

Thomas   April 17th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

What a jerk Obama is, he will get whats coming to him...

Dave Clark   April 17th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

No more arrogant smart presidents. Let's stick with arrogant, moronic Presidents. That has worked out great for us the last 8 (Bush) years. Why can't someone run who doesn't like himself? Yeah, right.........

sick puppy   April 17th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Obama can not seem to win on his own merits.

He needs to deride and mock his opponent. Why? Because he feels inferior and can only shine by belittling others.

He needs outside celebrity and DNC support. He needs 4 times the amount of money.

He needs to plant supporters to heckle and jeer his opponent.

He needs thugs to block Hillary voters from voting at caucus.

He needs Oprah and the Kennedys and Kerry and all the big and really OLD style democrats.

dude   April 17th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

just lookin at the daily news... seems a white, german just made some comments on america... "laments u.s. injustices to blacks, indians." More:

"Americans have always been a people of hope," he said during his homily. "Your ancestors came to this country with the experience of finding new freedom and opportunity.

"To be sure, this promise was not experienced by all the inhabitants of this land; one thinks of the injustices endured by the native American peoples and by those brought here forcibly from Africa as slaves."

Reverend Wright and the Pope have some overlapping similarities in opinion. Seeing as we americans have dismissed the good reverend and racist and hateful, we should probably be outraged with catholics too.

Bitter - New Orleans, LA   April 17th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Does CNN report when he goes to the john? Seriously...you obamaniacs get excited over the dumbest things.

Sophie   April 17th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Ha! He was just as bad as her in yesterday's debate (the cookies-comment, his inability to say anything good about the Clinton-administration...he'd rather praise Bush Sr.!!), so he needs to shut up. I'm sick of his holier than thou attitude...
Clinton needs to realize that it's in her advantage to talk issues,.When they do that, SHE ACTUALLY WINS!!! He just comes across as ignorant...

nancy g.   April 17th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

hillary seems less and less likeable after each debate--last night her "body language" was rather irritating with the smirks that she made during obama's comments.

Wake Up!!!   April 17th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

For the spelling flickers....Mad not made and buy not by.

Dude   April 17th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

I think it's good that this is drawing out the way it is. Identities are really starting to come out in the nominees. It helps voters get to kno who the candidates really are!

NOBAMA   April 17th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

I don't agree with Obama. If he wins, I will vote Republican (and so is my large Latino family) if he loses, I will vote Democratic (and so will my large Latino family).

I will never vote for Obama.

Barb Canada   April 17th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Hypocrisy!! You have been every bit as nasty, sometimes more so! You have a brain-wash way of using every moment to say you don't do the attacks! Good news, if you don't win the Election, at least you have a cult like following, one that I might add, every bit as nasty as anything I have seen! Way to bring people together, and make us around the world think better of you!

Anonymous   April 17th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Hillary sure seemed pleased with herself standing up there with the Clinton lap dog Stephanopolos leading her inane attacks. Obama condecending? He was there to debate the issues, not play elementary school name games. Does he have contempt for Hillary's juvinile behavior? Wouldn't you?

Hillary is the better one   April 17th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Sore loser.

He's bitter because she clearly won the debate- that is why he is back to refusing future debates.

He knows he can not stand without his props: hecklers, jeerers, primary riggers, lawyers to block the vote/revote, Celebrity fests.

Hillary has done it all on her own merits.

Wake Up!!!   April 17th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Obama , your throwin in a little of that black flavor now??? Oh crap now he's going to have to disown Jay-z. What black man says Bruce Springstein is the person he most want's to meet. Your fake ___ may have my coumminty fooled but this is one brother who knows a buster when he sees him. I wonder are you going to superman that ho e (Hillary no pun intendid). I forgot you did back in the day. I am not made at your game. If everyone want's to by into your pimp juice so be it, but your not puttin me out on the track.

That is so funny...I love Obama.

HSNP   April 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Sen. Obama doesn't want to debate any more because he stinks at it.

linda   April 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

More media misinformation about how unlikely it is that Hillary can catch up in popular vote – she is currenly only 94,000 votes behind Obama and will likely take the lead after Pennsylvania, Yes, Florida and Michigan count – popular votes were certified in those two states and the DNC cannot scrub those although they may not seat the delegates selected as a result of those votes. This still doesn't change the fact that there is a popular vote total that the media is hiding from the public.
It amazes me how one sided in coverage CNN and several other news agencies are. Slam Clinton, poor little B Obama….How about asking Obama….how much did Rezko actually finance for you and how much was related to your being elected? Your spiritual advisor makes Bin Lauden look as though they believe the same things, and what about your friendly neighborhood terrorist, Bill Ayers? Your campaign admittedly said you were friendly and on 9-11-01 this fool said he was not sorry for the bombings he started in the US. And he is a professor.. Please, only in a campaign….I believe Obama should get out before he gives this election to McCain

nancy g.   April 17th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

after each debate, hillary seems less likeable. she seems to smirk a lot when barak is making his points-she needs to watch this "body language" if she wants to remain in the race!

Darth Vadik, CA   April 17th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

I wonder if Bill O'reilly thinks that Barack runs around in a restaurant yelling "hey MFrs, where is my GD iced tea".

enomisa   April 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

He who slings mud first, always complains about the other person.

You have been getting digs in since day one. And everyone else tried not to attack you.

The race card played early made sure that no criticism would be coming. Everyone was afraid you'd call them racist.

So you got and advantage and an edge.

The caucus format was pandering to your demographic and gave you an additional boost.

Disenfranchising Fl and Mi gave you a turbo boost.

The DNC was happy because they thought you were the party's best hope to win. But Hillary showed that even with all the unfairness, the attacks, the hate, the sabotage and the swifboating- SHE STILL HELD ON TO 50% OF THE PEOPLE.

The Democratic party and the DNC must be running scared now. They lost the gamble. Now you may never get the support of the Hillary democrats.

They think we will come around if she stays in the race until she loses- but we will not forget that she would NOT have lost if this primary wasn't rigged against her and in your favor. We will not forget all the ballots cast for Hillary that got tossed out.

Hear us well DNC: NO Obama by force.

Matt   April 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I refuse to vote for Obama. CNN can try to shove him down my throat all they want.
I'm not voting for him.

Susie   April 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Arrogant, condscending, self-righteous.

Jessica Vormwald   April 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Obama is accusing Clinton of using the tactics of the GOP? How about denying voters in Florida the right to vote? Isn't that the TACTIC that "won" the GOP the 2000 election.

By opposing a re-vote, Obama showed his true political colors. I would never vote for such a hypocrite.

For Romney   April 17th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I was for Romney and still am. I really don't know who to vote for. Except I know I won't vote for Obama. I listened to a little of the debate last night and when they asked a question about his preacher or other people of undesireable retributes, that he has had dealings with, he would not answer the question. I personally don't trust him with the government of the United States. ;He wouldn't even salute the flag. That is another question he worked around and didn't answer. I just hope and pray the people of this country will think twice before putting their stamp by Obama's name. CNN will probably not let this go through since you are certainly pro-obama.

Vivian   April 17th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

I think ABC and the two journalists, Gibson and Stephanopolis, whatever, had some nerve to waste out ime discussing the kinds of questions at a debate for the first 50 minutes. I am not saying tthat nothing should be discussed, but my goodness, how long will we have to discuss all that bull for? I am sick and tired of Hillary's nasty tactics, she is the most annoying, divicive person i have ever seen. I am so tried of the picking and picking on the same issue. Does she not realize that it is not sticking? she needs to stop! If people don't make a big deal of it and she conitunes to point things out, it only hurts her because she looks like an idiot repeating the same issue. Give it up Hillary! Obviously people did not trust her, that applies to me as well, I never did trust her. But, now more people distrust her because she out right lied to the public to gain political votes, lied about her exprience, and has tried to tear down Obama with devicive remarks and political tactics. Guess what, we trust even less now! she needs to move on and maybe, she should start baking cookies!!! I am tired of looking at her and tired of how she has treated the democratic party. She is one selfih B-- . Peensylvanians have been getting sick of her bull also, I hope they vote for Obama and get this darn primary over with. The dems are getting very close to losing the whole thing because of hillary. How stupid is she? how dumb? how selfish of her!!!!! I don't know how Obama stays so cool, cal and collective with all her dirt!!! she really needs to quit. I give Obama so much credit for being such a calm man and so presidential while he was being picked apart. Good for him. now that's the kind of president I want.

Mike   April 17th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Yes, Barack Obama is both intelligent and well educated and it really shows. His level of astuteness helps him to gain voter support and to see how irrational Clinton can be when she uses her wrecking ball. Clinton supporters make statements about themselves when they participate with her devaluation of a decent human being.

Hillary wiped the floor with you.

You did not have the Obama worshipping CNN and MSNBC to run interference for you.

You came across very hesitant and hedging.

Desiree   April 17th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

If Obama can't handle this, he'll never be able to handle the republicans. He should just man up and just admit he had a bad night, no one is perfect, but to play this wounded victim role is really unattractive and unbecoming of a leader. Do your history, this is a picnic compare to the founding fathers. The job of President is tough and he needs to stop whining.

enomisa   April 17th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Hillary the true leader finds her voice.

She shone last night. What grace and poise and intelligence.

She was brilliant.

Just one problem…

Republican from Red State (Texas)   April 17th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

If Obama wins the Dem nom, I'll vote for a democrat for the first time in my life. If Clinton gets the nom, I'm going to stick with the republicans. I like the idea of cleaning house and starting fresh in Washington. Obama offers the best chance of that happening, and McCain is the 2nd best chance. Clinton will bring back all the same people. The US is not a monarchy.....we need change.

I have posted several times today. Its obvious that CNN has an agenda on who it will allow to speak. This is not just me.

Obama is whining, not winning. He lost and now once again he changes the subject.

Done here waisting time. Obama supporters complain about the debate, but continue to play gutter politics on the board. CNN does not post everyones entries, leading to a one sided bashing of Clinton.

I know I made the right vote..

You got right Obama it is ashamed that so many of these political analyst are so disconnected with "us" common folks that many view the fact that you did this seems to indicate that you feel you loss the debate....When actually you were displaying how many of us feel. We are just ready to get on with how your presidency will help with the economy, joblessness, gas prices, mortgage rates, etc....I could give a ^%$*# about Rev. Wright, Bitter comments, Bosnia, etc. any more it's about our future with no time to waste on the "silliness" that was presented like on last night's at the debate.

ABC you should be ashamed....Leave tabloid reporting to Fox you are much better than that....

So many of you Hillary supporters are making a statement that you are definitely okay with a potential leader who is dishonest, petty and disrespectful of others to get her way. Who would really get the kudos if she were elected? Does Bill Clinton ring a bell? It is difficult to know which one of them has a higher degree of narcissicim.

the more she attacks you senator the more people see her lies, her dishonesty, her untruthfulness, adn all her blah blah blah

she is worst than the republicans so look at it that way , if you can defeat her none will stop you.......she is the worst and the most toxic element our political system can ever produce.....

I will vote for you Senator Obama....

I just love his finesse. He uses humour everytime to deflect all that negative and ridicilous nonscence comming from haters. He keeps his decorum and grace and still is Presidential and respectable. Not for nothing, we keep forgetting that there are a lot of scared people out there that don't want him to become Pres, because when he does, it will be the end of their world as they know it. Every man, woman or child who have had abd or having a struggled life will have him as the ultimate role model and advocate. people will want to work hard to fulfill the American dream as he did.He has already let the cat out of the bag and we all know,,YES WE CAN!!! YES WE WILL.Obama 08 :-)

Obama 08

Otto F   April 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

So it is going to be not only a new kind of Presidency, it is going to be a new kind of campaign? Mr. Obama is going to stand proud, head high, and brush off the attacks, and the electorate is going to sweep him into the White House out of admiration? But he's engaged in the usual gutter politics already against Hillary "Annie Oakley" Clinton and John McCain. And last night he wilted under fire, which will only be worse when it is coming from the GOP. Or will he be counting on the sympathy vote because ABC was so "unfair" to him? Hillary can take the heat. But the shock to Obama supporters last night was that Obama can't.

Tyler J.B.   April 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Absolutely hilarious. I was really disgusted by Hillary in last night's debate (and that's to say nothing of ABC's moderators). Go watch it again and look at her eyes during the debate. So often she was looking up and around searching for some kind of truthiness to add to her statement.

Her physical mannerisms were those of someone who is lying. She's not even that good at hiding those tell-tale signs we get taught as children to identify.

I'd rather vote for McCain than a liar.

Obama '08!

Linda, Boston   April 17th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Bwahaha! That response was perfect. He's not even really complaining about it, he always just makes a point of saying that it's part of the process and to be expected, but that it represents the OLD politics. So he brushes it off and gets back to the issues. And it makes all the people who insist on focusing on flag pins and who his next door neighbor is just look petty and out of touch with what the people are concerned about.

Last night/today was a perfect example of how the MSM just doesn't get it. All the pundits were talking about how Obama got pummeled, while all the polls indicate that the voters saw it as an Obama victory and the only one who wanted to talk about the things that matter.

At the end of the day, flag pins aren't going to put food on anyone's table or help anyone get health care.

Obama attacked Hillary for what Bill did, so I guess if he gets into the whitehouse, Michelle will be telling him what decisions to make. I have been married twice, this time for 15 years and I want to know how Hillary made Bill do her bidding, because most real men frown on thier wives interfering with thier jobs.

kathleen retired Professional w/woman for obama   April 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Obama was "set up". Hillary knew the "storyline'" somewhat and
her friends George S. and Charles Gibson probably told her to
relax, that they were going to put him on the spot. I imagine she
got to choose the channel, the moderators and if Obama would
have "declined" the offer, he would have been slandered and we
would have heard "the wrath of Hillary" over his refusal to "debate."
I am sick of Hillary and Bill.

Mary - PA   April 17th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

The debate last night was a joke....it's great to see that Sen. Obama can joke about it. We need a good laugh to help us get through this sludge of an election. ABC should be ashamed of themselves. Who the hell cares about flag pins anyway? I don't care about what they wear on their clothes, my concern is the content of their character and their heart. You would be hard pressed to see anything of any value in Hillary's character or heart. I guess that's why she wants us to try to focus on all of this other crap.

ACE, Denver   April 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

HA! I love it!

Sharon   April 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Hi!
"The person that can't dance says the band can't play".....Obama in a nutshell....
Why is he soooo mad? I loved the person in his audience who asked him how he could stand up to the republicans when he got creamed last night :)

Hillary has been treated worse for the entire campaign....he can't take ONE night of tough questions about HIS OWN ACTIONS? And he wants to be president? Can someone explain how he would handle the job if he can't handle questions without getting upset?
Boy, he is really pathetic.....what a baby....
There had NOT been a debate since his pastor and the bigot remarks came to be....The questions needed to be asked in the debate forum. He was weak and irritated....he really looked bad. I guess that's why he doesn't want any more debates...how funny :)
GO HILLARY!!!

Roger B from Portland, OR   April 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Jes,

How is he condecending to voters? People keep saying that the "bitter" comments were...but I just don't see it. I don't see him as pompous, or rather, no more pompous than any other politician that has ever existed anywhere!

There is a difference between well educated and intellegent.

But there is also a difference between intellgent and wise.

Holding out hope in NC!   April 17th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

Obama's getting a little scary with his rhetoric. So, if someone criticizes him or dares run against with any kind of commitment, they're "stabbing him in the back." He does think he's the Messiah. Bush thought the same thing. So did Caligula and Nero. Why do you think some of us our fighting so hard for Hillary.

Joseph, NY, NY   April 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Liar you have stooped worst, you started the negative attacks when you called her dishonest and a Washington insider, which you are also by the way, oh wait that's right you were hired to work in Washington but you don't do your job.

Tina   April 17th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Please....no more debates. You know Hillary is lying when her lips are moving.

juliemn   April 17th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

I dont think this is anything to be proud of, he sounds like he's whinning, He wants to be president ,and he acts like a school kid. Pathetic.

Kay-Arizona   April 17th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

You Obama supporters had better hope your candidate dosnt get the nomination. He will have a complete meltdown (or you will) the first time the Republicans take him on. They get serious. So far its been elementry school while he and his supporters dish out abuse and rude remarks to Hillary Clinton and you all think its "cute".

Now for Obama   April 17th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Look at the mixture of his crowd! You will never see that much diversity at Hillary or Mccain's rally! LET'S UNITE BEHIND THE UNIFIER!

OBAMA ALL THE WAY

Kathy in Oregon   April 17th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Talk about hypocrisy...

LOOK at Obama - he's taking every opportunity to "get a dig in" - and "twist the knife in a little bit," as he's complaining about Clinton engaging in such behavior.

What an arrogant HYPOCRIT.

BTW - Shouldn't OBAMA be talking about the issues... rather than wasting time trashing Clinton?

Oh, that's right. This is a man who preaches one thing, yet does the exact opposite.

What an over-blown ego - he's gonna FALL hard.

wolfsbane   April 17th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Hah, Clinton and the Republicans tried to go dirty on him, and he just brushes them off!

Obama is the candidate to focus on the issues – all Clinton and McCain can do is try to drag him down to their level.

He is an elite candidate – he's the BEST candidate.

Strega   April 17th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Obama looks like he is sweating bullets today and all that fanfare of him brushing off his shoulder just proves that he is GHETTO, from the inside out.

He just can't answer the questions of his lies and his radical connections without stammering and crying foul. And if he can't answer to diplomatic moderators like Charlie and George and/or his same party opponent- he WILL find himself with a severe whipping from the GOP in November IF he steals the nomination, that is. (FL, MI, Corrupt Caucuses- come on.. that boy is no winner!)

sbritto   April 17th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

All you Obama supporters make me laugh. You can't face the fact that he performed poorly during last nights debate, so your going to try and spin it as if he walked away from it the winner. Well I hate to tell, you this , but he came off as being more unexperienced than ever. All he did was stutter. He couldn't seem to get a decent response off quickly enough.

Hillary came out on top.

Go Hillary!

Praetorian, Fort Myers   April 17th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

A smart person would have recongized the silly game being played by ABC to boost ratings. Obama was smart enough to see it coming and did his best to avoid it. Hillary instead played right inot it like an idiot, in the end all she succeded in doing is making Democrats look childish.

OBAMA O8!

KLangguth   April 17th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Brilliant!! A great pivot to the general election and a great way to neutralize what's coming from the Republicans. We have too many problems in this country to be worried about flag pins. He's right. The voters saw right through this debate.

"""jes April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

I wish to God people would wake up & see what a arrogant & pompous man he is. Not only is he inexperienced but he is a perfect example of the difference between being well educated & intelligent."""

No my friend, you're totally wrong, Barack is right, instead of attacking Hilary Clinton and offense people, he'd better let down, that's the right thing to do, Hillary has been attacking him from the very beginning, by email, in the media, in her campaign, she has engaged in a dirty, nasty and shameful "kitchen sink", remember what her campaign had said before Ohio and Texas, I quote: "We're gonna make a "kitchen sink" and wait to see how voters react and how he handles that", but Barack is strong, he knew that acting like Clinton would be shameful for him, so right now, instead of answering her negativity it's better not to answer and just let her do what she's best at, the Republicans attacks.

We don't need that, we need debate on real issues, how and what they plan to do to solve our common problems, that's the debate we're looking to see, not negative and false attacks as it was the case yesterday. A lot of people don't trust Clinton anymore because of that, SHAME ON HER;;;

Ya gotta get that dirt off ya sholder! I feel a change coming on, its crazy cause i go through these blogs and out of 30 blogs there will be 25 people supporting Obama and the other 5 Hillary or McCrazy. They need to start using these blogs as samples to come up with their polling numbers.

Penny   April 17th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

I was glad they asked the questions they did. I know the issues from watching stump speeches and researching their web pages. I have serious issues with his affiliations with Ayers, Rev. Wright, Rezko and their affiliations with Farrakhan. Still, I have no clearer understanding of any of these issues. He used his response time to say how trivial these matters are, while never answering the questions. Well, I don't think they are trivial and I would like answers to the questions.

I thought personal attacks were "old" politics? I thought Obama said this isn't going to solve the important issues that the American people care about? I thought he said we are wasting time with this kind of negative attacks? I thought he wanted change and wanted to bring everyone together? He does this all the time. He accuses the Clinton campaign of "dirty" politics, and the very next day, he is out there rolling in it.

So I will ask you then....why is he wasting time talking to the people in NC with these personal attacks instead of talking about the issues the American people care about?

I see, he is in a small town in NC where people cling to their guns and religion and don't care about the issues....BECAUSE THEY ARE BITTER.

HIS ACTIONS SPEAK SO LOUDLY I CAN'T HEAR WHAT HE SAYS.

Rena   April 17th, 2008 5:23 pm ET

I don't know anything about Jay-Z guys but yes he haS done the right thing to brush her off. Jesus, told the disiciples to kick the dust off their heals if they don't receive them. So in likewise Obama has kicked the dust of Hillary off his heals and is moving forward to VICTORY!

Someone accurately exposes your weaknesses, faults, and lack of readiness for the office of President, but you find a way to completely ignore these truths.

There is nothing Barack is going to do for America, that Hillary has not planned to do from the start. There is more Hillary plans to do, that Obama does not.

Barack whole campaign has been smearing Hillary's image to be "a monster", a "witch", so that Barack can argue that he is somehow the better qualified candidate, and Hillary is somehow going to do nothing for America.

Explain how it ISN'T experience for Hillary to have a west-wing office for 8 years in the White House. Name the other 1st lady in history to have a west-wing office?? There is no other.

Better that he brush them off – figuratively & literally. That I can respect from a man who should be President.

Paul   April 17th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Yep! Get that dirt off your shoulder. *flick* See ya, Hill.

I don't buy it...   April 17th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary, tsk, tsk, tsk...... So you make attacks without checking your facts (seems to be a trend). When making an attack stick, you must have some credibility. You have very, very little of that, and sinking all the time. In a poll on Tuesday/Wednesday, the number of Americans who thought you could be trusted was 38%,
With that number, no matter what you say, it won't stick. it only reflects on you badly. When your opponent knows this, and can actually make jokes about brushing you off, you have a serious problem. When your opponent shows you disrespect by making "brushing off" jokes, and no one jumps to your side to defend you, outraged, you're in big, big trouble.

The people in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina (your last walls of defense) are lining up behind Barack. Your double-digit leads are gone. Your superdelegates are gradually but steadily moving into the Obama camp.

It's over, Hillary. Nothing short of Obama dropping out completely will get you the nomination now. Please, please, please, withdraw, and throw your support to Obama. The Democratic Party needs to pull together. The big battles with the Republicans are looming....

Mike   April 17th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Get a life Obama after last night Hillary beat you down. You are now refusing to debate her anymore because you are cracking. You cant hide behind your facade anymore.

Hillary just needs to continue the Saturday debate on CBS with McCain and skip the middle man.

Roger   April 17th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

He always acts like a victim and whines when Hillary backs him in a corner, and then he gets his campaign to attack Hillary. Not long ago he was calling Hillary a whiner over his misleading mailings. Obama just doesn't understand that he needs Hillary's supporters in order to beat McCain. I see that some of the Obama supporters are finally starting to realize it to. It's too late though, no amount of begging is going to get me to vote for Obama is Hillary dosn't get nominated. I will vote for McCain and so will and so will millions of democrats that are sick of Obama's arogance and hypocracy.

Kathleen Parker   April 17th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Like Martin Luther King (who by the way was younger than Obama)Barack knows you don't have to have experience to know what is right and what needs to be done. A true leader often has to find a new path and Hillary, unfortunately, is still traveling the same old path. Forget the negativity; the voters are intelligent enough to understand the issues if they could just hear them instead of all this other nonsense.

First it was Reszko then it was Rev Wright. Last week it was the Bitter (guns and religion) issue and yesterday the Weatheman Underground. Maybe next week it will be Black Muslims or the Panthers or something worse. Obama truly is the teflon man or maybe it is because he is black and the media want to be careful with him, God forbid.

If Hillary had been involved with any of these controverseys well she would have had to run out of Washington but well she is a women so lets put her down and down again. What a joke, the double standard is alive and well in America. It perfectly ok to crap all over a women but a blackman, no. Well if the women of America do start to consider the idea of a Block vote to ensure that he does not win, then they deserve what they get.

Obamastill has not explained himeself satisfactorily but it seems good enough for some Americans to put him into the Presidency.

It is time for Hillary to step asided and allow Obama to unite the nation. As much energy as her campaign uses to think of ways to belittle and degrade Obama, perhaps that time would be better spent on how to bow out gracefully. The "win at all costs" approach is not working for her.

The news media is really going to be on his back now, because he insulted their strategy. George Stephanopuolis is a friend of Shawn Hannity's of FOX news who hates Obama. I am sure you've seen him foaming at the mouth whenever he discusses Obama. So, Shawn hounded George into asking those questions last night especially the Ayers question( which was totally irrelavent to anything) because he has been trying to get that story out into the mainstream media (since no one with INTELLIGENCE and decency watchs FOX News) . George asked those questions to throw Barack off of his game. Which they did because if I thought I was going to a debate and not a "tabloid questioneer" I would have been distracted by those idiotic questions. Why don't you wear an American flag pen????

When gas is costing 4.00 per gallon people are loosing their homes and there is a war going on that is killing thousands of our TROOP!!!!! I would have been thrown off because my mind would have been thinking. ARE THEY CRAZY??? Barack is not a man who takes nonsense very well he is a man who came to do a job and not to play silly politics. Also George Stephanopoulis is friends with the Clintons because he was the news anchor on Whitehouse hill when Bill was the president so again was this a fair debate?

H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS NOOOOO!!!!

And if I were him I wouldn't do another debate so that she and her Republican friends can get another chance to try to lynch me!!!!
But given the unfair cicumstance I think he did very well because I would have lost my cool.

Hillary was in her element all that negativity made her feel right at home. The shameful part is that it did a dis-service to the people of Pennsylvania. The mediators had their own agenda in mind, I notice that they all have a hard on for Barack is it because no matter what they do he rises above it? Also I am sick of the media speaking for me I can speak for myself ... Thank You very much

Please don't be mad media. Post my comment :)

I like Joe Lieberman. He doesn't toe the complete party line (I wish more politicians would do more thinking for themselves), and now, he's not encumbered by any party, and still won his seat.

RINO and DINO aren't bad things...they're steps in the right direction.

Jeff E.   April 17th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

And here I thought Wolf Blitzer was a shallow talking head! Those clowns Charlie Gibson and George (I love my Clintons) Stephenopoulos set a new record for shallow pandering. And Hillary just stuck the knife deeper. It's a pity Obama's so resectful of his fellow democrat. She deserves to have her pant suit sullied for all the mud she's slung. By the way, where were her lapel pins last night?

Perhaps we should off Obama a pillow. Sen Clinton knows where she wants to take this country and just how she wants to do it.

I simply cannot believe the same with Sen Obama, he seems really out of his element when he has to actually answer a question.

I have good news for Hillary supporters turning away from supporting Obama. There is a undercurrent of support building for McCain among Latinos (Mexican-Americans) in Los Angeles.

Hillary is my first choice, McCain is my second and I WILL NEVER vote for Obama!!

paulie_nj   April 17th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

New article here says Obama wants to campaign not debate. That's because he cannot debate like Clinton can and he is running away with his tail between his legs. Did he even answer a question last night? If he can't debate against Clinton he will surely be eaten up by McCain if he gets the nomination. Last night's debate was the first one that I actually enjoyed. It touched on topics that people DO want to hear about. And last night we learned more about what a HYPOCRITE OBAMA is.

He IS a dirty politician. I commend both moderators and ABC last night for standing up to the liberal media and saying we're not going to take it anymore. This bias against Hillary. The ABC debate was one of the most useful debates yet. His connections with the weather underground group and Wright ARE issues that need to be dealt with. If he can't handle these questions how can he stand up to the Republicans? He scored an F in this debate, slightly worse than his D's in the last two debates.

Pat   April 17th, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Jes, your comment tells me that you don't know the meaning of "intelligence" and "well educated." Please tell me which of the Presidents had previous experience with being a President before they were elected? At least he has the courage to run for the President of the United States and if is an arrogant & pompous man, more power to him because it will take an arrogant individual to turn this country around after having a "patsy" of the current President.

Mack   April 17th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

Obama's just rubbing himself from that beating he took from Hillary on ABC last night. He's mad because last night was not a cake walk for him. Obama is not use to a fair debate.

Cameron   April 17th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

What will Hillary tell us next? That she was born to a mixed race couple and raised by a single mom? I wish I could says that I was amused by how during last night's debate Hillary plagiarized every one of Obama's popular positions as her own. All of a sudden now SHE was the one who had shown that she can work across party lines to bring people together to move the country forward. Shameless how she will say anything to get elected.

Allison Marie   April 17th, 2008 4:59 pm ET

I love how Obama says we need to stop all the negativity! Then about 2minutes later he says When McCain and the Republican attack him with all they have, he'll attack them with even more!!! hahaha What a hypocrit. He's lost a lot of respect from me, and i liked him!!, since the debate last night. He knows he screwed up last night and Hillary dominated, was commanding, and was Presidential and he's running scared trying to cling to his last hope of "defeating old washington" when he'd do the same thing "old washington" does. He thinks he lives in a plastic bubble and no one is allowed to attack him.
Hillary has my complete support after the past two days. Clinton '08!!!

Obama is acting immature. Obama acts like questioning him in any fashion is some kind of OLD POLITICS. He accepts us to believe he is a new politician. I don't buy it. He was caught in several lies last night and he will pay for them as journalists scratch their heads and think about the debate more. He also affirmed his fundalmental misunderstanding of religion. How many times do we have to put up with these alleged debates. They have turned into nothing more than shooting galleries. You have to bear in mind that, with Clinton's rapidly diminishing financial support, the tv debate is an excellent way for her to reach an audience.
Obama is right in wanting to get down to actually campaigning, meeting people, explaining his views face-to-face. Clinton's "fighter" stance on tv is so patently put on that it is comical. One can almost hear the sniper fire.
No more debates, please!

Shawna   April 17th, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Join the Obama train and see how much more positive you feel about going to vote, it's a movement the right direction. How depressing it must be to vote against change, or against positive campaigning. The other day I saw on CNN a 60 year old women who said she wouldn't vote for Obama because she doesn't believe that things in Washington can change, it was so sad that people who have lived through enormous changes in America have lost hope. Obama is trying to change that, he has said he isn't perfect but that the campaign is about changing Washington not personal attacks or gottcha politics. The political system is supposed to empower the people and bridging the divisons that have been created in Washington to stop people from getting things done.

TC - South Beach   April 17th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Is it me or do these two resemble the Road Runner and Wiley Coyote!
Barack (the road runner) is running from state to state and Clinton (Wiley coyote) is doing everything to try to stop him! She orders her recent supplies of sinks and other equipment from ACME to get the Road Runner. But in the end it all back fires and winds up landing on top of her!

Think about it! Beep Beep!

nick   April 17th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

The fact is Barack can't handle it!
I'm a republican, but i now am thinking of switching to vote for Hillary. I did notice that she was running a some what negative campaign, and i honored Obama for not. But, now she is the one with a good campaign, all that comes out of Barack and his Campaign, is nonsense.
Barack Obama is now OVER the edge with the negativity, if i could meet him right now i would say "Knock it off." America wants a change and what Obama is going to bring is a horrible change!

But, it stinks for Hillary, because now she can't have debates with him, because he doesn't want to have them.

The Republicans will have the last laugh in November. I wonder if he has the same idea for America when we get stomped out of the Middle East under his leadership??

Cape Cod   April 17th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

What arrogance!!! Last night's debate was by far the hardest one for Obama thusfar. He was asked pointed questions about things that have surfaced about him since the last debate, I would have liked to have heard more questions about issues and how either candidate would take on McCain in the General Election but you can't have everything.
With the news stories that have come out shows a side of Obama that voters haven't seen yet this primary season & they touched on his character (which is important). Voters were already duped by one candidate that appealed to the beer drinkers so much so you voted him TWICE, you believed his speeches when he said he was going to go Washington and change how things are done. Well he sure changed things & not for the better.
What I am most concerned about is the "open mouth insert foot" syndrome that Obama seems to suffer from. How many times now has the media broke a story about some demeaning comment he made and his response is "well it was not what I meant to say" or "they misunderstood my intentions" (I'm paraphrasing). HELLO!!! with the state of unrest in the world at this time with so many crazy zealots waiting for any excuse to unleash their weapons on us or our Allies we can't afford to have a Commander in Chief who cannot speak what he means & mean what he speaks–it is too dangerous. What happens if he has a meeting with Iran or North Korea and he says something stupid?
I am glad to see that the kid gloves are coming off some the news media where Obama is concerned I'm just afraid it is too late to make a difference in this primary.

Instead of offering Senator Obama a pillow...Charlie, George and some video taped citizens asked some tough questions. Questions it turns out that Senator Obama was less than prepared to answer. When both candidates share 95%+ of the same philosophies....this is bound to happen. Senator Obama is right...in the previous issue debates...he said many times...I agree with Senator Clinton. Senator Obama should watch some of the Republican debates....John McCain will give him no quarter.

Negative attackes in this campaign will not put food on the table for those Americans who need help, nor will it solve the gigantic world problem that is effecting us globally – global warming, declining dollar resulting in high cost of importation, home crisis, energy crisis with record setting oil prices, wars, etc.

I wish that people should speak out againt irrelivant discusions and quickly point out to the perpetrators that the era of negative mud slinging is over. That we need a different kind of politics where issues are discussed, so that people will be informed and make a decision on who will earn thier vote.

Obama thinks he has the nomination and presidency coming to him. Well Obama, its just not your turn. Do a little more grunt work in the political arena and maybe you will be ready. You have already, unfortunately, become tiresome. Keep your day job in the Congress, do work for someone other than yourself and then give it a chance.
You remind me of children that need to be sent to their room...you shoud go to your room and learn that you are not the gift to the universe as you seem to imply. But someday you might be.

I cannot believe how wimpy Obama is.

I loved yesterdays debate. He was finally asked hard questions and Mr Slick Orator stumped on several. The longer this primary holds on the more Obama is exposed so I have Hillary and her supporters to thank for that.

Former Barack Supporter   April 17th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

I am 21 year old student at Yale. Barack's ideal demographic. Over the course of the campaign, I've found him to be despicable. His hypocrisy is more cringe-worthy than Clinton's blatant lying. He was the first candidate to go negative, and hasn't held back in terms of negative advertising, and yet he's the new kind of politics? He's the worst kind of politician, because his deceit is of the most insidious variety. He postures himself as if he is above it all, when he is just part of the problem. His brush-off is about as condescending as it gets.

Chief lagosboy, NJ   April 17th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Yep! David Plouffe, is so right that garbage yesterday night, sorry I mean debate was so one-sided and pro-Hillary, it was sickening to watch. Moron Charlie Gibson and Little George Stephanoupolis you both are a disgrace and should be both fired for giving such bias and shameful performance. ABC should never host another debate NEVER, they are out of there league, I honestly thought I was watching the FOX Network. Very disappointing, I got the email and I have already donated, Moron Charlie Gibson and Little George Stephanoupolis should also donate to Obama for wasting our time last night! Shame on you ABC!

Obama 08!

The debates were a joke. Why did Stephanoplous get to be a moderator when he worked for Bill Clinton's white house as the press secretary? Seems odd.

And why was Chelsea in a literal spot light and no one was spot lighted for Obama?

And why no questions about Mark Penn, Bill's foriegn income, the Ohio story (the girl had insurance), etc....

Hmm....something wierd about that.

But Obama did very well. Forceful, to the point, clear, and yet calm and a gentlemen. A real leader and frankly refreshing.

Obama supporters are soooo upset because their golden boy got alittle taste of what the bias has been doing to Clinton for months now

America has been waiting for , but still didn't get the truth.

Shawn from Kansas   April 17th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Watching her expressions last night, while she described her growing up, and the way she looked up and kept doing that thing with her eyes -- anybody else see it. Wow. Too bad it was more like a court room than a debate.

I think they should have another debate, but allow the Democratic Party to pick the mediators from undecided Super D's. They'll hit on the issues that matter. Let's talk politics – I'm for Obama, but I thought HRC did quite well answering "political" questions (better than BO), and was only hurt by them going hard at Obama.

Hated it when Jerky one mediator apologized for not giving equal time, and she giggled and smiled her cheesy smile, "I was wondering too"....Bull Butter !!! She was loving it!

Former democrat

bob in L.A.   April 17th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Arrogant or elitist- you choose the word. The man actions show thinks he's better than most and last night it really came through.
His answers were civil, his demeanor calm but he seemed as though every question and the whole act of being there was something of an imposition.
GWB had a bit of that before he was elected and it came out even stronger when he was sworn in. We can only wait and see how far Obama's ego will expand should he win. At least with Hillary Mccain we know where there personality defects are.

Geez....   April 17th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Wow, Hillary is being blamed for Obama's wounded ego! His brushing of the shoulders looks really school yard. She did not ask the questions. It is about time that Obama learn what it is like to be hardballed. He is not a victim...he is a presidential candidate. That happened over 15 years ago. All his issues are recent and just wait till the Sinclair and Resko fallout happens.

When are his supporters going to see how arrogant Senator Obama is! But worse than his condescending arrogance, is his whinny, everybody's ganging up on me attitude. Is he really that naive? I don't think so. My real concern is that he NEVER takes responsibility for anything! He is constantly placing blame on other people, circumstances, etc. I'm waiting to hear that the reason he bowled so badly is that Hillary was placing the pins wrong.

Agreed! Let's get on with it. Overwhelming public support should already be convincing the not so super delegates to get off the dime and commit to the obvious front runner.
The debate was ridiculous and I am sick of the media garbage as in....
CNN's own headline of whether or not the elitist label will stick. Well, of course it will, if you continue to publish the headline day after day.
Give me a break!
Obama has once again proved his presidential qualifications to me.

John   April 17th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

So its really Hillary & Bill who are mocking (laughing) at their own supporters.

Hillary says, “To my supporters”,

I will tell you the Bosnia LIE. Did you fall for that one folks?

I will tell you my husband likes NAFTA and I don’t. Did you fall for that one folks?

I will tell you I am for everything positive that my husband Bill did and NOT the negatives. Did you fall for that one folks?

I will tell you I am the best bowler until someone (Ellen) really puts me to the challenge. Did you fall for that one folks?

I will tell you I did not have sexual relations with that woman. Did you fall for that one folks?

I will tell you that I was really the first person to criticize the Iraq war that I voted for. Did you fall for that one folks?

I will tell you all in every state/city that I was at your city/state when I was a kid and pretend I did every activity that state/city does. Did you fall for that one folks?

Lisa   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Brushing off his shoulders is big in the African American Community. He changes up everywhere he goes. He's black in North Carolina, He's rich in San Francisco and thinks people the rural areas are dumb.

Chipster   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Wow, Obama and his Obamites can dish it out but they sure can't take it. Even moveon.org is whining about ABC and what a bunch of meanies they were to Obama for daring to ask about the distracting issues that really aren't about the issues.

Sure, they aren't about the issues but, judging from the blogs, they continue to be distorted and exaggerated about both Clinton and Obama. The candidates deserved an opportunity to address them. Even yesterday morning, there was a letter about the flag pin nonsense in the local newspaper and Clinton's trip to Bosnia was exaggerated but there was substantial truth to the events. This sort of stuff needs to be put in its place.

I thought it was the best debate so far because the candidates were able to fully respond, follow-up, and even ask questions themselves. Viewers walked away with far more than sound bites. As so many Obamites have said about Chelsea, if you can't take the heat . . .

If Obama is our candidate in the fall, he'll look back on this debate as a walk in the park compared to what the Republicans will dish out.

mike   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I thought Obama was going to stay away from personal attacks. I thought he was the captain of the new way of doing things of change. He seems to be getting more and more negitive. What makes that ok now? Thoes of you supporting Obama is this OK? Can Obama be negitive and make personal attacks now that he is out in front? How do you all feel about the Kid Gloves that the media is using with Obama. What hapens when the republicas come out swining. They have no problem using anything at all. What has the media failed to cover/reveal in regards to Obama adn his past that will end up giving the Oval Office to the GOP. Don't you want to know. This happened once before and it gave us four years of Bush....Stop think ask!

Jude   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

It was a joke debate last night....I agree with Senator Obama that it took some 45 mintues before I heard anything that was of any important to this nation...this country...to me as an American. Seriously...the first 45 mins were a joke. I've heard the same stuff said at debates...its time to campaign...forget the debates...I could recite to the american people what both candidates would say

Angelo   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Getting pummeled in last night's debate is nothing compared what the Republicans will do to him if he is lucky enough to get the Democratic nomination. He shouldn't worry, he will have Cafferty covering his back.

Val   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

yep he sure is a Jay-z fan. He once said it that he listens to some Jay-z tracks. I bet "Get..that..dirt of ur shoulders is one of his favorite tracks. He keeps brushing Hil off his shoulders but she just dont get it. It's like, theres something so good about him that Hils can't get enough of. After Obama beats Hils on tuesday, he should rename the month April to ObamApril.

Obama...Next President of the United States

YOU NEED TO KNOW   April 17th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Why should Senator Obama go in a DEBATE and find out that the debate will consist of 45 minutes of Bull Crap and 2 minutes on the issues... Doesn't make any sense to give Hillary any more opportunities to just go Negative...as a matter of fact that's where she lives....NEGATIVE LAND.....

Julie   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Keep on Obama – expose the right, bring their tactics to the forefront which renders them virtually ineffective. I truly think his honesty on their tactics will put a target on him, but he's got the upper hand. This is where Kerry failed. He's got their number!

jl   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCH THE DEBATE BETWEEN OBAMA AND

MCCAIN.

Noah   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Obama and his supporters are compalining about the debate last night. Wow, were was this integerity when Clinton was bashed in the last 20 debates. How hypocritical to start whining now, when all you Obama supporters have done nothing but bash Hillary over everything and anything. In the last four months I may have seen one nice Obama supporter who actually talked about issues, the rest of you have played gutter politics while claiming you want hope and change.

Obama is the front-runner. The questions asked were valid, even though he failed to answer anything directly.

So If you want to talk issues, I dare all Obama supporters to stop bashing Hillary and start telling us what Obama will do as President, and please not that tired line that he will bring us together..Do you even know where he stands on the issues?? I will say Clinton supporters know.

Gary of CA   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Obama: Close the deal for one big blue state like PA, I'll abandon HILLARY!

The Debate last nite showed that you are not even at par with HILLARY's experience & wisdom.

JC, Orlando   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Obama was doing the "wipe me down" dance. LOL!

OBAMA 08!

Nick in Las Vegas   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Yeah.... I'll vote for him... that was a joke!

Hillary or McCain '08, experience counts!

scbrown   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

OBAMA DIDN'T BRUSH OFF CLINTON HE ATTACKED HER

WITH HIS KNIFE STATEMENT–WHICH IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

ALSO HE WHINED ABOUT THE DEBATE AND HIS SUPPORTERS ATTACKED ABC CHARLIE AND GEORGE,

WHICH THE MEDIA NEVER COVERED!

HIS CAMPAIGN DIDN'T COMPLAIN WHEN THE MEDIA ATTACKED HILLARY TWO WEEKS AGO -HIS CAMPAIGN PILE RIGHT ON IT!!!!!!

THEY DIDN'T SAY LET'S TALK ABOUT ISSUE.

AGAIN THE MEDIA STILL HAVEN'T COVER THE LIE OBAMA TOLD IN HIS BOOK ABOUT BEING RACIALLY AMBUSH!!!!!!

Obamacan   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Obama = realest politician of all time

Rachel F.   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

I love how Obama can just brush off these ludicrous attacks by Sen. Clinton! He can literally brush them off. Go Obama!

I also want to note that the debate moderated by Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous was a sorry excuse for journalism and I love that Obama responded so forcefully today against the politics of old. Its time for us to focus on issues people actually care about.

Mark   April 17th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Wait for the Clinton Campaign to claim that this gesture is "elitist" and "condescending" :)

I think Hillary won a Pyrrhic Victory yesterday. She won by points but probably did not win voters and might even have lost super delegates.

Sam   April 17th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Chris Welch, learn how to accurately title your articles, because you give an inaccurate message: it's not that he brushed Clinton off his shoulder, as though he was demeaning her, but that he brushed her negative comments off his shoulder. These two sentenses may seem close, but they are worlds away in their interpretation. And while you're at it, remove that stupid link to "will the E word stick to Obama", you've had it up on your site for days now, and you seem determined to make it stick. What's up with CNN anyways?

Rashida #1 Obama Supporter   April 17th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Go Obama!
The dirt they were slinging at him in that debate, seemed as if they had taken questions from Fox News and Conservative talk radio! Who cares about the "elitist" comment! How can someone who had a summer cottage as a child, and has been financially stable know what we the working people are feeling? I want someone like Obama who knows what a student loan is and worked public service to help people and not make his resume look good!

Joe Ossai   April 17th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I could only watch the debate for about 15 minutes. It was joke, what a pile of crap by ABC. Give me a break.

I'm not alone, drudge poll who won.

Obama = 57%
Hillary = 43%

Stacy Clarks, TX   April 17th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I LOVE OBAMA!!!!!!!

ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE MAN!!!!!

OBAMA 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama '08

ABG   April 17th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

And his remarks are not attacking? Talk about spinning illusions to America.
He has become an expert at delivering sarcastic remarks to deflect from his poor performance in last night's debate.
The shoulder flicking is so NOT Presidential.

Photon Torpedo Dallas, TX   April 17th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

"Brush the haters off..."

Love it, love it, love it. I want to see the video footage. I'm sure it's on Youtube.

Obama '08 Yes We Can!

Rich in Seattle   April 17th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

That was the problem with the knife that Hillary used last night, it was sharp on both ends. She didn't herself any favors by coming off as she did. Obama may have been the one attacked, but she looked like a rabid dog.

Marc   April 17th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Sack up, Senator. Though I can understand your reluctance to get the beat down again on national tv.

Angela   April 17th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

How dare someone have the audacity to criticize Senator Obama?

It is called vetting, which is a new concept for him, since no other candidate or media outlet has bothered until now.

He stumbles and steps in 'it' when he is faced with anything other than delivering a lofty stump speech.

This type of 'attack' maybe be old Washington – these issues seem silly, but they do matter in the general. Obama can ponder that in December, whilst they are planning McCain's inauguration.

Oh! The Irony   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Way to go Barack, flick her off your shoulder as you would the insignificant gnat that she really is. She is acting more and more like the Republicans every day. I guess she and Joe Leiberman will eventually be uniting, after she loses this nomination. Those two are a match made in heaven........

JayJay   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

A must watch new release youtube movie " Bosnia & Back Again" starring sen.HRC, produced by Jed Report.

Jeff Radun   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Again Mr Obama has pprooved is best feature is he is condecending to Hillary and voters

Realistic   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Barack is right on target - What a refreshing change to have an outsides who can honestly comment on what goes on in a campaign, instead of a yellow pantsuit sitting in a duckblind drinking Crown Royal and waiting for the phone to ring for her husband to tell her where he spent the night.

joe   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Actually you maniac, what you have to do is perform decently during at least one debate, tone down your out-of-control arrogance, and stop lying that you are the anointed and chosen one.

Obama lied twice in that debate (saying his campaign did not attack Clinton on Bosnia when they did on a daily basis - and on the gun records) - and he was a pathetic mess trying to answer to his own baggage that keeps piling up more and more every day.

Go get a life Obama and take your cult with you.

jes   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

I wish to God people would wake up & see what a arrogant & pompous man he is. Not only is he inexperienced but he is a perfect example of the difference between being well educated & intelligent.

YOU NEED TO KNOW   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Something that the media's not talking about is the FACT that Hillary's superdelegate GAP has been closed on significantly....She only has a 19 member superdelegate lead.

Angus McDugan   April 17th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Obama has sealed the deal as the Dem nom. Clinton can only disgrace herself and family further by her actions.

Oh! The Irony   April 17th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

The video footage is hilarious. Funnier part is that he's right.

Bushwacked   April 17th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

I don't see any purpose in future debates if they are going to focus on nonsense, rather than serious national issues that truly matter. Neither of them is perfect, so let's just leave it at that and forget the 'politics of personal destruction' that Billary cried about so much during 'their' administration.

Isn't it interesting how Hillary uses Bill's reign when it's to her advantage, but is quick to back off when something he's done or said isn't popular?

Amusing.....and sad.

Vote Democrat in November! Any Democrat is going to be better than John McCain.

Eugene, OR

Casy   April 17th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

It is so funny to hear Obama talk like he is on a higher playing field when the truth is that he does the same thing Clinton does and the Clinton campaign should do a commercial showing Obama preaching one thing and then doing the opposite of what he preaches!

Obama is a fraud!!

Linda   April 17th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

That' s right, Pres Obama! Brush it off. Continue to focus on the issues and wil will be fine!

Wes   April 17th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

GO Obama...... And if you really hate this man so much to say if Hillary doesn't get the nomination you'll go for McCain you really aren't listening to the issues. Even Hillary is gonna vote Obama when the time comes!!!

OBama 08..... Anyone but McBush

Isaac   April 17th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

I am starting to be disgusted by Obama and his remarks. Yes he had tough questions thrown his way, but this was the first debate since Wright and Bitter and all that and these are things that, for better or worse, have been the focus of much speculation this last month or so. I think this was a wake-up call to what the fight will probably be like for him in the general election should he get the nomination.

Clinton was in her element because she knows how to stand up to the attacks. Obama does not and it shows, and now he complains.

Capt. Smash, Salt Lake City, Utah   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

The Clintons, GOP and McCain still live in the past. They think and know most Americans are stupid! However, Obama knows what the American Public is feeling! This is what is going to make it happen for him, he knows how you feel!

God Bless You Obama Only The Strong Survive.

Obama 08/12

Antonio   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

yeah he also forgot wipe his face and place the ice back on his black eye. Fool was handed his butt last night.

AZM   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

I have no side in this primary... but would say that Hillary did better in that debate than Obama...
That being said... I don't see any point in having anymore... it was just a mud slinging fest... but not as one sided as he lets it out to be.

At any rate... I hope she doesn't give up... this is democracy in action and they should take it the distance!

Never give up... Never surrender!

jj   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

yea brush off your mentor, sorry, I can not brush it off so easily. You went for 20 years, you must have agreed to keep going BY CHOICE for 20 years. Your choices on a number of things are not so easily brushed off for some people but that's your answer, just ignore it because you have no good answer for it, just blame others for being racist.

May   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Ohh CNN! Your title is WRONG! Obama did not bruch Clinton off his shoulders. He was referring to the negative attacks (note he used 'it") and not HIllary. Read it again:
"When you're running for the presidency then you’ve gotta expect it and you know you’ve just gotta kinda let it—"

Kevin   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

I saw that...he was funny..

The crowd enjoyed the show

Will this help him?
Time will say.....

Lisa   April 17th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Which part of the debate did Hillary attack him? She said she would not attend that church, and I wouldn't either.

alice2   April 17th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Barack you are right on. She was using the OLD way of politics as usual. We are MOVING ON WITH CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. I LOVE IT.!!!!!!!!!

Jasmyne   April 17th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Just keep on brushing her off, she is completely insignificant!

PS. If you think it sounds arrogant thats because you know its true. If I were on a losing team I would be hating too

OBAMA 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dinesh   April 17th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

He didn't do poorly in this debate. She didn't do well in this debate. The vast majority of people would say he won. Why? Because she has attacked him on the scale that Fox News attacks democrats. Her words were destructive, and she will eventually implode from these statements.

scbrown   April 17th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

You are right Obama. That woman is dirty, in mind, in spirit. She can only spew her venom. She actually made me feel ASHAMED of being a woman last night.
Let her debate on her own with her lackeys, the Stephanopoulos, Gibson, Hannity of the media world. Feathers of the same bird.

Obama brushes his shoulders indicating he's dismissing Hillary. Sounds a bit elitist to me!

He goes on to say she "twists the knife in a little bite".

Obama sounds like a pouting 12-year old girl. He's definitely not ready for prime-time.

If Obama can't handle this, he'll never be able to handle the republicans. He should just man up and just admit he had a bad night, no one is perfect, but to play this wounded victim role is really unattractive and unbecoming of a leader. Do your history, this is a picnic compare to the founding fathers. He's been off his game since Texas.
