Watch the candidates on Colbert Thursday night.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Sen. Hillary Clinton played up her image as a tireless problem solver — this time for laughs — when she visited Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" Thursday night.

Not to be outdone, Sen. Barack Obama, her rival for the Democratic nomination, showed up via satellite to poke fun at what he called the media's fixation on gaffes and trivialities.

Clinton emerged just as host Stephen Colbert, broadcasting from the University of Pennsylvania ahead of the state's primary Tuesday, was lamenting that he had no technicians to repair the lost signal on his giant rear projector screen.

"Are you telling me there is no one in this theater who can fix the mess we're in?" Colbert cried out.

"I can," Clinton said as she strolled onstage. She questioned an assistant about technical specifics before figuring out the problem. Then she called out a makeup artist to take care of Colbert's shiny forehead.

What was the O for Sen Edwards? A peak at who you support? Please do not support a person that can't even remember if they were shot at. Yes, you can choose who you are around but you can also choose who you MARRY or stay with.
We want/need HOPE. My wish is that you will endorse Sen. Obama BEFORE the Penn primaries. Don't let your former supporters down by waiting it out. The writing is on the wall and he will be the nominee.

Democracts, it's time to really think. This nomination has more than just the next 4 years at stake. Although the next 4 years are very important to this country. We can not have another 4 years of Bush's policies. It is also about the future of the Democratic Party for decades to come. Obama has invigorated the youth for the Democratic party. Folks the youth are the future ! They like most of us Democrats are sick of the politics of old, If this nomination goes against the leader in states, delegates and popular votes, we could well lose all or most of these future Democrats.
Super Delegates stop and think. Hillary has a higher than 50% disapproval rating with only a 44% approval rating. Obama has a 56% approval rating with only a 39% disapproval rating. That gives a good glimpse at the November election and who is more likely to win against McCain. Obama has the lead in everything. If Hillary wins nomination by Super delegates against popular vote, we can kiss goodbye most of the youth votes for decades to come.
CNN why won't you post this?

When Obama speaks, I ask, "Where's the beef? What did he say other than platitudes?

When speaking off the cuff, Hillaary is knowledeable about issues and policy. Obama stumbles and essentially says nothing. Hillary is so much more prepared for the presidency while Obama speaks generalities that make some people feel good.

When Hillary is serious, the Obamites dismiss her for being to formal and when she obviously engages in humor or satire, they claim she is not serious enough. All of us have many personas appropriate for different occasions. Any one who doesn't isn't a very genuine person.

Where have some of these people been? Much of any campaign is 'manufactured' .

dAnnE   April 18th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

I am tire of bloggers saying _______ won't win/can't win…how do you know? The truth is we don't. The fact that both Obama and Clinton are close says that either has a pretty good chance. Clinton supporters particularly need to cool it with that "can't win" rheteric because news flash: Obama is ahead. Can we be rational, please?

I thought it was a smart move for all of them to appear on the Colbert Report. It shows they’re willing to take a chance. McCain used to appear on the Daily Show pretty often, which I always thought was pretty courageous of him considering the audience.
I think Obama won out the night though. He was cool, natural, funny and played into a lot of on-going Cobert jokes. Hillary seemed a little awkward and uncomfortable playing along.
I think Hillary and Obama would both bring about much better prosperity than we’ve had in the last eight years. I just feel like Obama’s message is a little more hopeful and he seems more natural. He’s got my vote.

The fact that people say one person can fix all America's problems is a joke. No one can do that, but it takes a good leader (with God on his/her side) to move us toward change. Now who that will be is TBD, but know that one person is not going to change the nation, the American people as a whole have to do that.

David   April 18th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

The Colbert Report was wonderful! Stephen is very witty and can inject humor into any subject.

The comments are closed for Jon Stewart so I would like to add that it is not surprising that Obama will be a guest on his show. Jon is bias towards Obama.

Darrin   April 18th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

I was disappointed in Colbert. He roasts every other politician on his show, yet is nothing but patronizing to Clinton?

Gimme a break.

Mike   April 18th, 2008 3:42 pm ET

Make sure we vote for Hillary on Apr 22. To have a black man in the White House just won't work. I have nothing against them, but we come from a great history. We have set the example from the day the White Man came to America. Other contries folow our example since the days of George Washington. To have a black man in the White House will just bring our standards down. We cannot allow this. So many people in Penn feel the same way. I'm asking all white people to join me and vote for Hillary.

dAnnE   April 18th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

In respone to Youth Vote:

What? You are confused. I think you need to look up Affirmative Action and get back to us, or not. Hillary IS also for Affirmative Action, just as many others are. How would it hurt students to do some community service, to knock down a couple of loans. And what does the inner city have to do with anything? Do you have children? If, so what do you teach them? I pray they are not like you, misinformed and dillusional. Many scholaships require community involvement. I can do nothing but shake my head in pity at people like you (crazy). I am really a nice person, but I have little patience for ignorance. P.S. This has nothing to do with supporting a candidate.

D F   April 18th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Maybe Hillary it might be time to consider running as an independent/ Because if you don't win the nomination, I cannot support an Obama nomination because he is too radical for me. Obama has too many radical firndes and ex-friends for me to feel good about supporting him ever.

If Hillary is not the nominee for the DP and I cannot vote for her as an independent, then I will vote for John McCain. I hope others feel the same as I do for the sake of this country.

shaun   April 18th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Wow, some of you people are freakin unbelievable. When Kerry got swiftboated, you said he was a wimp. When Obama tried to be a gentleman with Hillary and didn't respond to her tactics, everyone said he was a wimp. When he responds to her attacks, you say that he is copying or that he is playing dirty politics. What if your kid let other kids beat the crap out of them every day? Would you think that they were doing the right thing?

It's clear that some people are so dead set against Obama that nothing he does will ever be seen as right. These kind of people don't want to hear the truth. Do us a favor-just be honest about your feelings. You don't want a black man to be President, and he is being held to an impossible standard by the media and by those who he has to be twice as appealing as anyone else available for them to even consider voting for him.

DJ, LA, CA   April 18th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Katherine & John   April 18th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Hillary was funny on Colbert. She has a great sense of humour. Hillary is the most intelligent, most qualified, most electable candidate in the race. Hillary's detailed of domestic and international issues is quite impressive and unmatched. Hillary Rodham Clinton will be an outstanding President!

Obama is unelectable. No amount of 24/7 media promotion or money is ever going to change that fact. The Dems would be quite foolish to nominate an unelectable Obama. He should not be on the ticket at all, no Pres or VP nomination. Obama is toxic to any chance of a Dem victory in November. His negatives are rising with the Rezko, Wright, Auchi, Ayers, Radical muslim leader Odinga (Obama's Kenyan cousin?) and various other scandals. The perception of Obama is growing that he is weak and too risky for the Dems.

Obama was such a total wimp in the debate. All the Obama WHINING and his supporters whining since the debate is just tiresome. He folded like a cheap suit under the smallest amount of pressure, nothing like the general election scrutiny or the actual task of the Presidency. It's "hard work", we've hard ole Bushie complain about that. Only Hillary is up to the task. She's battle tested and battle worthy! She kicked Obama's butt, just as she has in EVERY single debate.

*VOTE SMART! VOTE PATRIOTIC! VOTE HILLARY CLINTON!*

T-Bone in IL   April 18th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

To all Posters:

I am so fed up with all of this infighting… For the past few months I have been reading posts from both sides. Both of the Dem Candidates are qualified to run for the Office of the Presidency. Both have baggage and both have misspoken (LIED). I am an OBAMA supporter, but if he is not the candidate then I will vote for Hillary. I am a Democrat FIRST!

No matter who you are for or against , it should not alter the fact that you are a Democrat and belive in our Party. I have my reasoning for voting for Barack and if you are voting for Hillary, that is your choice. In the end we want a Democrat in the White House. Remember, both candidates have vouched for the other on theri ability to beat McCaine

This isn't about us as individuals and who we "like" better, in the end it is about us as AMERICANS pulling together and supporting a common cause, i.e. getting a Democratic President.

A lost vote…
I voted for Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Ohio primaries, but now i feel i have just been swindled. I just turned 18, and my first vote as a voter has been casted towards a candidate i no longer believe in. Being a young woman today, I thought I should vote for someone that represents and encourage us women in the society. But during the lenght of ths former first lady, she has constantly changed her stand and beliefs depending on what us the public wants to hear. In spite that, Sen. Hillary constantly distorts Obama's candidacy which makes me feel shes desperate for power and not really for the people. Now she is making a claim that she wants Sen. Obama as her Vice president (even though she is behind in the delegate count), of which her campaign had early refered to his candidacy as incapable, and a fairy-tale. I think she really just does whatever would favor her nomination even if its a wrong and negative campaign.
Now that I have a change of heart and I see that my vote has been casted toward Sen. Hillary's candidacy, I feel robbed so I have decided to make my voice heard and convert as many voters that the senator has tried to delude (just like me). I have promised to keep voicing out till Sen. Obama wins this election. I feel his candidacy, and hope for change is the future of America. We need a president that can unite, and not a sympathetic or tough character just because its what people want to see. I also believe having his candidacy would reach out to the world and allow people to understand that anything is possible if we put our mind into it. He inspires, and has shown a good judgement in difficult situations. Again, Sen. Hillary Clinton said choose record not speeches which personally i feel he has shown a better judgement in his record. Plus, is'nt the same speeches that initiate solutions. Then, I realized she was just looking for a wrong in his good doing, and that is just another one of her scams through the process of this campaing.

Scott   April 18th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

I am a fellow democrat and have to laugh about how petty and stupid people are being with their comments on both sides. A previous poster was right in that Hillay and Obama are FELLOW democrats. You people are acting like kids and if it continues , which Im sure it will, you will be the ones grumbling the loudest when you hear President McCain. Instead of looking for a candidate wrapped up in a prettly package and telling you things that make you feel warm and fuzzy, why not focus on the one who can do the job BEST. This is the same kind of rhetoric that gave us Bush for 8 years and look where we are now.

Obama did answer them and moved on; the only ones who haven't are those who are afraid to see a black rule over them like Hannity & Colmes and Joe. I must admit after seeing this year running election I now see why America is in the state it is in. It loves liars, bigots’, and hypocrites. Besides, when McCain was questioned about his little affair it's amazing how he addressed it one time and no one said anything further about it. Why? Because (1) McCain made it clear I addressed the issure and want say anything on it further (2) Because he has the right color and America dare not question him again. Where was Hannity & Colmes when this happened; they are bigots and their true color comes out every night.

So, my question is why when Obama says, I've addressed it let's move to the more important issues at hand it's a problem? Then everyone says he doesn’t want to answer the questions; he has and has on several occasions. It is pretty sad you can't find dirt on this man so you pluck him for every word that comes out of his mouth. Is this all they got; then you say no one knows anything about this man or he doesn’t have enough experience. Well no one knew anything about Bush if you had we wouldn't be in the situation we are in now. No one no anything about Hillary but so far she was the wife of Bill Clinton and that she now is a compulsive liar and cant' be trusted; yet you want her for your president over a man you can't seem to find anything but he transparent and wants to change America for the good. But he is condemned for that ; what a sad shame. All the people who claim that they have experience have town this country down but we still want them in office. Why not put someone with less experience at least we have a chance; he hasn't been around the dogs long enough to corrupt him so maybe he will think with a better view of what we need and not what the greedy dogs want.

Peter   April 18th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

I hope the DNC and superdelagates open their eyes, see light and help to win big in November.
The Republicans, although McCain has the chance to enjoy his vacation, their political machine is already starting to throw negative and be sure you are going to see more and more until the election
If we want to win big in November we have to reunite. To barely win in November will do any good, the next President due the actually situation cannot do anything if she/he does not have majority in the Congress and Senate. I believe that a ticket Clinton/Obama or Edwards would win landslide. For the bitter campaign on the general election, I am sure that Clinton and Obama being two smart people can easily reunite and win big against MacCain and whoever is the VP

I picked Clinton as President because she is most experienced a fighter ,best prepared, qualified candidate and able to deliver , she is been exposed on everything by the media and republicans, Obama can help a lot and maybe if the promise are kept we could dream of a long time in the White House.

During the debate. The ABC moderators spent 45 minutes going after Obama with all of that nonsense spin. Hillary, loving it, slid in with her zings as often as she could. Hey, the only way she can win is by throwing the 'kitchen sink' at him. Fortunately for her, her personal ethics will place no limits on how she does it. Only her expectations of public perception. Obama on the other hand, avoids playing that game. His ethics make it difficult to play politics as usual. But he's being pushed. People perceive good ethics as weakness as apposed to strength. If Hillary does win, God only knows what kind of false spin we'll have to endure. John McCain will continue to make fools of us as Jorge W did. What choice do you have? Go Obama 08!

matter. I shutter to think who he would place in various offices and
who would influence his decisions. I have yet to decide who I would
vote for, but do know it would not be Obama…….he is to unknown.

Don't hate the candidates no matter if you are a Clinton or Obama supporter. At the end of the day they both are Dem's and we should support out candidate no matter who it is. If you we care about ending the war, resolving the issues with the economy and get this health care thing done this party can't behave like it has. If Clinton is the nominee support her and if Obama is the nominee support him. This election is bigger than race and gender. I think during the course of this campaign a lot of us have forgotten that we have major concerns that need to be addressed. I am just tired of my fellow Dems going after one another when we should take that fight to the Republicans.

What really made the appearance noteworthy was the absence of an American flag pin on her lapel…
It would appear that this pin that is required equipment for presidential candidates is conspicuously absent from any picture I can find of her.
And by the way, if Obama is supposed to take flak for knowing a former radical from the 60's, let's discuss Hillary's past connections to the Republican party when she was campaigning for Barry Goldwater. I wonder if she would have helped Steven Colbert with the question of being raised in a Republican family in Pennsylvania?
Or perhaps her time would have been better spent explaining the death of Vince Foster. Or why a former Clinton staffer was allowed to moderate a Presidential debate?
But other than that…yeah, she was really funny solving a pretend situation. By the way, didn't she look brave dodging those sniper bullets?

Sorry. What message? You obviously don't understand how the world, in general, sees the US today. We have lost any semblance of being a peaceful nation and certainly, we no longer have a wothwhile message for the world!!! That's why we need Obama to help recreate our image - for many reasons, Hillary cannot do that effectively!!

As an independent, I find it funny how many people really believe Hillary is the best thing for this country…I don't think so. I couldn't vote for her with a good conscience since she's mis-spoken on so many subjects, how can you really gauge her and basically what has she really done as a public official?? As they say, proof is in the pudding. And lastly for those HRC supporters stating Obama has crooks around him shouldn't cast any stones…take a deep look into HRCs background.

What is the importance of this Comedy show? Does it have any impact on the economy? Clinton is using this in a hope that people will forget about her negative attacks and her lies. Maybe she should do standup comedy.

Rather than whining, Obama should thank Hillary for training to be tough for the general election debates. Democratic party and the liberal media have already zoomed in for Obama as their nominee and Hillary is preparing him to be tough and manly.

"The Clintons facing Fraud charges, hearing in a week and the media is not covering it.

The first lawsuit to haul a President and a Senator into Court for defrauding the Senator's largest donor as part of a conspiracy to illegally win and keep a US Senate seat will begin discovery in May, 2008 as it proceeds to trial as confirmed by the California Supreme Court.

The discovery will expose an ongoing cover-up of the campaign finance crimes and the obstructions of justice directed by Hillary Clinton with the help of Bill Clinton and former DNC Chair Ed Rendell. The cover-up rivals Watergate in its corruption of each branch of government and the media.

Great sense of humor. We are going to need it. A president has to roll with the punches to stay sane under the pressures of office. Hillary will be ready on day one! She is already! Obama is not; a complete amateur and too tightly-wound to be anything but a minor office holder. He is simply not ready for prime time — maybe in 20 or 30 years… if he thinks the debates were a little "rough", he is too wimpy to be president or anything else that has serious responsibility!

If Obama is elected as the president of this great and powerful nation, three years on the mark thereafter, 3/4 of those who votered for Obama will deny they ever did…And that my fellow Americans is the sad truth we're headen towards.

John McCain is jumping on the Clinton Slam-Obama bandwagon. You know why? B/c the Republicans KNOW they can beat Hillary. She has too many skeletons in the closet.

This is from the NY Times today:

In response, an Obama spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said Thursday: “Since Feb. 5, Senator Obama has garnered the support of 80 superdelegates to Senator Clinton’s 5. We’ll let the results of Senator Clinton’s ‘kitchen sink’ strategy speak for themselves.”

Seems like that speaks volumes.

jimmyboy   April 18th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Another plus for Hillary, and the list goes on.

I see Obama is better on TV then actually doing anything.

And he wants no more debates with Hillary. Boy is the world suprised about that! You would have thought after the ABC debate, he would have been yelling for more. I guess he he felt this last one rated D+ by one newspaper is the best grade he could possibly come up with.

I see he flipped Hillary the finger one time. And yes he did. All the news sources are carrying this(I am suprised.). I also saw it.

What presidential material he really is. Would this be what he would be doing if he were with another dignitary who he didn't like or who disagreed with him.

He looked like a little boy next to his white grandmother. (Watch out Hillary.)

Clinton can be so human when she wants to. She is actually a very funny person. Obama was good, but he is a little stiff, he reminds me of Al Gore. We all need to see some comic relief from these two since it has gotten very serious.

Devin   April 18th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

Let me preface my comment by saying I ABHOR Hillary Clinton…

That being said, I felt a bit sorry for her on Colbert…because she looked a bit pathetic…and I say that not because she is the most corrupt woman in Washington…

She seems so awkward and forced in such environments, kind of like your mother would look trying to fit in at a frat party…and it just didn't work out as well as it could've for her.

Obama on the other hand…comes on at the END of Colberts CULMINATNG Philadelphia episode…with a thousand or so people sitting behind him, seeming perfectly at ease, and made the crowd go insane! This is inspiration people…that man just makes me smile:)

I don't see why Hillary's supporters claim that Obama is not ready to handle the heat. I think he did it very well on Wednesday when he received 80% of the hard pitches from the moderators of the debate. He was even kind enough to skip the opportunity to punch her back when they addressed the Bosnia snippers issue, which from my point of view, shows a big flaw on her character.

At least we can add. The race for the nomination is over. We've polled the superdelagates and half of them will go with the state delegation. (Hillary can't pull off a 60-40 win in each state left). Obama will only need about 45% of them to win. Hillary's days are numbered!

It just shouldn't be left to the comedians to piont out the facts about the Press and its Love affair with Obama. The media as a whole need to stop playing the opinion card and start doing their collective job by being willing to vet Obama as their should.
I'm just a carpenter and we lowly working men don't like to be told what to think by our media, we like to be informed by it so that we can chew it over and come to our own decision.
WE THE PEOPLE need you the media to do your job and act as that 4th spoke of government and keep the PEOPLE informed of ALL of the issues that relate to both the policies and character of a would be President.

Hillary Clinton did a much better job fixing Stephen Colbert's screen than she has the farce of a marriage she has been parading around for years. After seeing her true colors this campaign season, I must admit that I feel a touch of sympathy for Bill in basically looking for an outlet from that "monster" of a woman. God save us all if she becomes the next US President.

I will not vote for Obama. at the beginning of the campaign, he stated: "MY long lived dream has been, to be the first black president". He gave the impression he just wonted to be famous, not to be for the USA, and why was he not saying the pledge to the US flag. He just stood there like the dummy he is. I will vote for anyone but him. I wont for anyone that will not honor the USA flag.

Wow why don't we just put some strings on her and make her do a little jig on stage. If that would get her the whitehouse she would definitely do it.

And for That "debate," it had nothing to do with the important issues that currently plague this country. They could have easily spoken of Hillary's 8 years of NAFTA support, he fabrication of questions, her supposed gun-toting experience in which since she has never picked up a gun, her questionable campaign contributions, her former top advisor making trade agreements with Columbia…the laundry list goes on for days. She writes about a particular trip to Bosnia as clear as day and then comes out of the blue with some form of memory lapse and recalls sniper fire? She sounds more like a Vietnam Vet with PTSD than the next president!

You Hillary supporters are so outrageously stubborn. She is done. This is very close to being over. Call a spade a spade and wrap this thing up. She fought a good race and now its coming to a close. Obama is our man. Lets get out of the muck and grime of slash/burn politics and focus on the big prize. The white house being BLUE.

These political races are going to be nasty. Most people have made their minds up as far as who they're going to vote for anyway. Me for example a black male, who is a Hillary supporter I only focus on what they're going to attempt to do for the country. Both of these candidate talk a good game, to me her's more detailed and understandable. Obama will one day make a good president, it want be in 08 maybe he'll be ready in the next 8yrs. To understand where I'm coming from with this put aside race, gender and all the bias the media has place on this race. Go back and listen to the debates and focus on the issues not the punches being thrown.

Good job HIllary….you are the best candidate and the only qualified to be the President this coming November.

What obamabots don't want to face up to is the fact that the BO campaign has been trying to pin the labels of "divisive" and "untrustworthy" on her from the very beginning of his campaign. It is amazing how robotically his Obamanation parrots this meme.

"Hillary never has a problem answering the tough questions, she's way smarter than you!!!!"
Here's two she refused to answer for you.
When was the last time you went hunting?
Isn't there a conflict of interest when your husband gets money for his support for free trade from Columbia when you file joint tax returns so his money is your money?
She refused to answer those, would you like to answer them for her?
When people come on these blogs in support of a particular candidate using arguments like this to support them drives me crazy . If you want to support her, fine, but don't spew this nonsence because you do not know what you are talking about.

Hillary is the real leader. Obama will make a good vice president - after 8 years of training as VP, he can run for president in 2016. This is Hillary's year.

Peter of Oregon   April 18th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Did Hillary wear an american flag lapel pin? I didn't see it.

TO: Christina:

You are still teaching your child to be bias. It is race, GENDER, enthicity, religion etc. None of it should matter. The fact that we have never had a woman President is no more revelant than the fact that there has never been an African American President. If we are going to teach our children let's teach them right. That was a teachable moment you missed it!

Connie   April 18th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Frankly, I'm surprised that Hillary hasn't requested an audience with the Pope during his visit, claiming now that she's Catholic…

Too bad she can't fix her campaign…

Peter of Oregon   April 18th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Barack Obama is honest. John McCain appears to be honest most of the time, but he flip flops. Hillary Clinton is not honest, and is manipulative.

To Ovitshio Branc- That is the same kind of snide remark that your ccandidate would make…why we Hillary fans are just undereducated blobs who couln't think ourselves out of anything…Well guess what…it is that same snotty attitude displayed by you and your Messiah leader that will most certainly give this election to John McCain. You will have no one but yourselves to blame when good Democrats and others turn away from you in the election and leave you to wallow in your own inflated egos.

THE WORST   April 18th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

OK. OK. She is a little funny sometimes.

But I still don't trust her as far as I can spit… and I maybe from TN, lived in Fayetteville, NC for years, and served in 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S… I can't spit that far.

Freddie of Long Beach, Ca   April 18th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

She is a fighter & a formidable woman! After the debate, she has the advantage! Obama's shady past is haunting him, Ferrakahn, Rezco, Wright & recently the unrepentent Pentagon bomber– Bill Ayer, so, can we trust this Obama guy to lead us? We will be in big trouble!

Hillary is the best candidate, no doubt!

Michael G- Ventura, CA   April 18th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

Love Colbert's show. Cute skit with Hillary- but I'm afraid Ms Fixit won't fix anything until she starts talking ISSUES. She was deinetly in her element during the so-called "debate" and that's sad for her and the Party and the Country.

Justin   April 18th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Clinton was the biggest joke on Colbert, the fact that she is so full of crap.

April in Texas   April 18th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

WEll she was ok but I thought John Edwards and Obama were alot funnier…. BTW John I will get you those Jet Skis…:P
