Nunn and Boren endorsed Obama Friday.

(CNN)—Former Senators Sam Nunn and David Boren endorsed Barack Obama’s candidacy Friday and accepted the invitation to serve as advisors on his National Security Foreign Policy team.

“I believe that Senator Obama has a rare ability to restore America’s credibility and moral authority and to get others to join us in tackling serious global problems that will determine our own well being and security,” Nunn said in a statement.

Senator Nunn served as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee for 10 out of his 25 years in the Senate. Senator Boren was the longest-serving Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and one of President Bill Clinton’s top choices to replace Les Aspin in 1994 as U.S. Secretary of Defense. Between the two, they have nearly 60 years of high ranking Senate experience.

Boren said in a statement, “Our most urgent task is to end the divisions in our country, to stop the political bickering, and to unite our talents and efforts,” citing Obama as the best Candidate to do so.

Throughout their time in the Senate, Nunn and Boren were known as two relatively conservative Democrats. Obama said he is honored to have them as part of his team.

“Both of these men will be important sources of advice and counsel for our campaign in the months ahead,” Obama said in a statement.

You are absolutly right. Stop this nonsense. "If Hillary doesn't get the nomination, I am voting for Mc Cain". this is worse than kids in an elementary school. THINK LIKE ADULTS. We have got brains to think, do not get overpowered by emotions and loose the country to the Republicans again. Whoever eins the nomination, vote for Hillary ar Obama.

I live in PA and I feel that Clinton should stay in the race until it is apparent that she is done!! I support Obama and to me Hillary is already done. The Clinton's don't care about America or you or me. They will BURN the village to win the war and that is what they are doing. If she would stick to the issues instead of negative adds she might not have a 54% untrustworthy rating among Americans. We have someone that is untrustworthy and negative why do we want for mor years of someone just like that? Obama for you and your Mama

I was willing all along to vote for whomever won the nomination, whether it be Hillary or Obama. The shear arrogance of Mr. Obama has been such a turn off for me that, I just won't vote at all if that man wins. It' pretty suprising just how many of my customers feel like I do. Maybe Mr. Obama should try being just a little humble, and to act like an adult, instead of giving the "finger " when speaking about Mrs. Clinton. I thought maybe I just mistook his not so nice gesture, but after watching that video over and over again, and watching the reaction from the audience, there is no doubt in my mind that he did exactly what I thought he did. He's not much of a "uniter" at least in my eyes.

These endorsements speak volumes about Obama's character.

Americans are more trusting of Obama than Hillary and her efforts to belittle Obama and the people of PA. On top of her immature accusations, she keeps digging it in as if she were beating a dead horse.

We need a president who values all Americans, who can stand tall despite criticisms instead of telling falsehoods

Another debate cannot undo Clinton's wrecking ball behavior.

Obama continues to attract great Americans to his team and will continue to draw additional credible advisors.

I heard another one from Ohio switched from Clinton to Obama. The other night Pat Buchanan made a statement which I found very interesting. He said if Obama wins Penn or even loses by a few points the Republicans are in trouble, he contends that everything that Clinton is throwing at him is what the Republicans will throw and if none of it sticks that means the people don't care about Wright and all the other issues.

Hey CNN, you posted a ticker article reporting that the McCain camp was accusing Obama of "reckless dishonesty" in the way he quoted McCain, but you didn't include the actual exact words said by McCain. Don't you think you ought to include that in the article, so readers could judge for themselves whether Obama had been dishonest?

Now, here is EXACTLY what McCain said:

"I think if you look at the overall record, and millions of jobs having been created, etcetera etcetera, you could make an argument that there's been great progress economically over that period of time." [meaning the period since George Bush took office]

CNN, don't you think you ought to include this in the article about Obama's "reckless dishonesty" (according to the McCain camp)?

I fail to see any dishonesty at all. Obama quoted McCain quite accurately.

all in all a very impressive coup for obama to secure the backing of these 2 former senators.... neither of whom is by any stretch of the imagination a liberal.... I was reading through the comments and found a sign-off that I haven't seen in a while: "anyone but McCain '08". Its good to see that there are a few democrats with their heads about them to realize that the issues they are voting on may just be more important than the silly battle that is going on in the Democratic party right now. Hopefully when Senator Clinton finally drops out of the race, she will at least have the courage to do the right thing and encourage her supporters to back Obama in November. Because she will lose this democratic nomination. Everybody thought that Mike Huckabee was being ridiculous by remaining in the race as long as he did – but its just as mathematically impossible for Hillary to win the democratic nomination as it was for Huckabee to.

All aboard the train wreck named Obama. The tracks are being greased by Hillary and the McCain Patriots will shove it off the tracks in November.

I do hope he wins the nomination because Hispanics will not join the Barak trainwreck. We have our reasons. The big one is Patriotism.
The other one is loyalty to Hillary and Bill Clinton. That is why we called Bill Richardson a traitor to our community.

If Hillary Clinton a Patriotic American with years of service to our country does not get the nomination and this Anti-American newbie gets it, watch out for the stampede to John McCain.

Mike in Orlando   April 18th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

I don't understand why so many are saying that they'll vote Republican if "their" democratic candidate isn't nominated. Obama and Clinton are so much alike on the issues, it's almost a matter of aesthetics. You'd think that people would line up behind their democratic candidate due to their stances on political issues and ability to lead, not because of their personality, gender, or who makes the least gaffes.

Which Clinton is Running for Office?

Have you noticed that today Bill Clinton is campaigning in 6 places, while Hillary is doing so in 2 places. And on Saturday Bill Clinton is campaigning in 4 places and Hillary in 2. Obama is campainging in 3 places on Friday and 5 places on Saturday, and Michelle is campaigning on Friday? The schedule is on the ABC Website. Point is, which Clinton is really running? And, will it be the same in the White House regarding Trade policy, etc.?? These questions need to be raised. I wonder if former Clinton administrators are realizing this!

mar,

Hillary has taken lying to a new level. Why do you think that they asked for her papers and diary as first lady? Don't forget bringing peace to Ireland. That was a good one. Chararcter flaws you say? The fact that Hillary stayed with scoundrel Bill for decades tells me her character is lacking. If she had character she would not need to cling to his coat tails.

I truly want Hillary to win, as I feel she is the best candidate (my opinion, please do not be rude), but cannot go against my party because my candidate did not get the nomination. I am currently a registered Republican:

If Hillary gets the nod – I am voting McCain (lesser of two evils).

If Barack gets the nod – I am voting Obama.

As a LONG time Republican – I must admit that I am ashamed of our party, more particulary in how Bush has handled his administration by sticking his head in the sand and refusing to listen to his constituents and others. What has happened to our nation?

Personally I don't think Obama insulted anyone – simple water cooler conversation will uncover loads of people bitter about taxes, the economy, out of control oil prices, the falling dollar and it gets harder every year to save for retirement.

McCain and the Clintons are too close to Washington. We will end up right where we are now – nothing getting done in Washington and everyone filibustering to block the other party.

We need Change... We need Unity... Obama '08.

D. McMillan   April 18th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

For the sake of the country, can we all just get along? It's time for all the personal attacks to cease and let's get on with the issues. Less we forget, there is a republican that we, the democrats, have to deal with. I just hate for the party's sake that the party is being divided by all the negativity. This is not a good thing and will only hurt us in November. It's going to be very difficult for either candidate's supporters to give their support to the other candidate. We have got to stop the bleeding now and pull together before it's too late. Midge, if you haven't noticed, this country has been "ruined" for quite a while so Obama can't ruin something that's already ruined. All you narrow-minded folk who can't see beyond color, should take a look at yourselves. The Rev. Wright issue is so irrelevant to the big picture. We are not our brother's keeper. If we all went around "denouncing" everybody we disagreed with, we would be some very lonely people. What do you do with a spouse, a child or a relative that you disagree with? Do you "denounce" them? No! You stick with the things that you agree on and move on which is what we need to do now. Get over it and get back with the issues or we'll "Wright" our way right out of the White House!

McCain 08

Robb, New York   April 18th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

A big win for Obama here. He got two very independent politicians to join his side. They'll help sway the independent voter in November. He also got former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, another former Clinton Democrat. Guess that debate, while a bad showing for Obama, is a sure sign that he's not slowing down. Serious political players are falling into his camp and abandoning Hillary. Her last stand is Pennsylvania, and she'll probably win big there. But Obama will erase any of her gains in North Carolina, and will ultimately prevail in Indiana.

Hillary, it's over. Please concede; your party needs you to. We need this one, Hillary, and we the people have spoken. You've been the litmus test for Obama. You've been there to vet him, and he's come through in tact. If he can stand up to you, he can stand up to McCain. Now it's time for you to do the right thing and let him carry the Democratic flag. It's time for you to do the right thing and encourage, convince and beg your supporters to back Obama. If you get out of the way now, he can focus on McCain and any advantage John has gained in this protracted Democratic battle will eventually fade away.

Please, Hillary. Drop out. Your party needs you to.

As others have already stated, political figures like Nunn, Boren, and Reich aren't as easy to throw off like say the endorsement of Bruce Springsteen or other non-politicos with that usual Clinton supporter snear of contempttible non-chalance that has become the tone of collective comments on this and every other blog on Net.

These are not only people of substance standing up to voice their support, which they clearly validate in intelligent and thoughtful detail, but also those bearing the type of real experience required to come together and deal with the hard decisions facing our country and work to find a solution to betterment of life for us all. Say what you want about Sen. Obama's "youth" and lack of years in the political arena compared to Clinton and McCain, but the man clearly has the humility and respect to reach and captivate the cream of the Democratic crop of leaders whose wisdom he knows is invaluable to a successful presidency and well run administration of the future so many Americans crave.

There is no way in hell the United States of America can survive with such a combative politician such as Ms. Clinton. Hillary is smart, but she has already tipped her hand. The Presidential campaign will have more mud being thrown, less talk about the issues. Plus, the republican party would have 8 years of ammo to use against Hillary. Here's something else that's exciting, John Edwards was wearing an Obama pin last night on the Colbert report!

Greg   April 18th, 2008 3:44 pm ET

Someone should do a piece on the obviously brilliant people running the Obama campaign. These endorsements, while no doubt genuine, are nevertheless carefully timed for effect. Yet another masterful move from this team. Their use of the Internet for fundraising represents 21st century thinking; stunningly effective, despite rejecting corporate contributions and other moneyed interests. To take an admittedly wonderful, but nevertheless rather junior candidate and clobber the Clintons with him is a phenomenal achievement. The Republicans must be terrified – with good reason. If the folks running this campaign end up in the White House, America will finally have top talent in the drivers' seats. Well done!

The will go further in cementing the fact that we need to rally around a candidate. These aren't just Joe Shmoes, many of these endorstments are from people who are there and have been there from every walk of this countries political life. They also represent facets of our country that would know what's need to make it run, such as our economic health for example. All of these voices can't be wrong. My support is definately for Barack Obama.

Also, I'd hope that many of the responders to these articles would educate themselves just a bit. It's a sad state of affairs if the majority of this country is as misinformed as some of the responders.

Jake   April 18th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

I know a lot of Hillary supporters are upset that she is winning and some feel it is because she is a woman, well I can't speak for others but that has nothing to do with why I have no intention of supporting her, and unlike some Hillary supporters I wouldn't jump to McCain if my candidate wasn't the democrat, no I couldn't vote for him either instead I'll go 3rd Party, maybe Nader.

I can't trust Hillary, I don't agree with her policies (especially her foreign policy regarding the Middle East), there's a huge conflict in interest between her and her husband (if you all remember Hillary was selling her campaign as 2 for the price of 1 well she can't backtrack now and say that she doesn't feel that way even though Bill does, she put herself in that position now that it has hurt her she's tried to backtrack from it).

Hopefully one day there will be a female president that all women and men can be proud of, but I just don't think Hillary is that woman.

Toni   April 18th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Gas prices are at the highest ever, the economy is in the tank, U.S. prestige is slipping, we are in a war without an achievable mission, the US dollar is slipping, U.S. Trade deficit is pathetic, jobs are flowing oversees, our kids are not being educated in deteriorating schools, foriegn governments are investing in our T-bills - and the only thing the debate moderators could ask about in the debate was Rev. Wright? Bosnia? Hannity-inspired questions? Washington politics are leading the Country straight over a cliff and into disaster. Our leaders must stand up and unite for the sake of our country's future. Nunn, Boren and others are trying to stop this madness before the trivial silly season consumes us.

Grant   April 18th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

This all up to the voters in Penn, they can end this farce on Tues, if not HRC keeps going and this going to get really nasty!! Look for the bombs to be flying this weekend!

If Obama wins Penn, the Clintons are gone, as well as about $6M in debt from the campaign...Although she is in this until the end unfortunately...

If the Clintons win Penn, they are in until the convention floor...

I think that the Obama supporters will be out in full force to end this , while the some of the pledged Clinton supports might just stay home realizing the inevitable...this fact is not reflected in the poles...

Tony   April 18th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

I just hope that our elected officials stand by the people who they represent. I remember that Mr Barack Obama stated in an earlier statement that we need change. I took that as saying we should change the status quo. It does not matter to me who these politician support expecially in the Democratic Party because I will Vote Republican for the first time in my 36 years of voting.

BrianMT   April 18th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

>>Obama's just another kid – no wonder he gets the young vote. I bet he promised to make recess longer and get more open book tests, didn't he???<<

Yes, that's exactly what's going on here. You've figured us out.

Now if I may propose my first piece of legislation - revoking suffrage for baby boomers making over $100,000 a year. I have had it with these people screwing up our country and our planet for the last fifty years.

Don't trust anyone over 40. ;)

John Smith   April 18th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Can "Sara Jane from PA" and other Hillary supporters honestly tell me how any American would want to return an "Impeached Family and President" back to the White House?

I have and will always be a great admirer of the Clintons. But I love my nation above all that the Clintons would ever offer– good economy–?

Integrity + strong moral values –> Solutions that are blessed for a nation. The USA needs these qualities in a President!

I do not think Hillary meets the above profile!

rob   April 18th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Obama is talking about change but how is it change when it appears as if he is surrounding himself with the same old people who have served in DC Nunn, Reich, etc. That does not sound like change to me. Same old ideas

I am welcoming Senator Sam Nunn to the Wining team, in fact He will serve as a Great VP. He's a man of charactere, integrity and knows the American People very well. I remembered that Sam and Powell went to Haiti on a mission to Haiti to mediate what was going on overthere. Welcome Sam.
Maybe those Ignorant Clinton supporters will see the light and stop support that fake canditate. Her dishonesty and her integrity make me sick to see how naive is the American people to be fooled by her tactics. I certainly hope that American people wake up and see that the country is literally sinking and the Clintons woed to distroy not just the Democratic Party but the whole country for their own personal gains. Sam call some your collegues and friends, the so-called Super-Delegates to put an end to this madness so the Democratic Party can concentrate on the old fool named Mc Cain that beleive that we should be in Iraq for 100 years.

I can't stand these name callings b/n the supporters. If Obama loses (which I doubt) I would go for Clinton. We can't divede. I understand we have choices but we have to unite. Remember the only person powerful enough to unite the Republican party is Hillary Clinton. They will come out of the woodwork to defeat her. Obama is the only candidate that can unite this country to solve all of the real problems, while the rest of you can bicker about the what the word is is or what bitter means.

South Beach   April 18th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

The Democrats just want it over. They think when the bickering between HIllary and Obama ends, the party will unite. I don't see that at all. Sorry, at least here in Florida, we will not unite around Obama. We may unite around John McCain. I suspect Michigan will do the same. Maybe California, maybe Texas.....When it's over, it's likely to be over for the Democrats altogether.

I am an Obama supporter and I think when all of this is over, we will have two candidates who can both beat McCain. Imagine if they joined their team together. That will be super strong team. By the time it is over, McCain will not know what hits him. Left, right, centre.

McCain and Bush are the old decade politics, we the democrates are the new politics, not based on fear but on HOPE.

The Obama/Clinton team.

16 years that will do fine.

We are the ones we've being waiting for.

You Hillary supporters are laughable. When will you give credit where credit is due? If your friend decides to go with the other candidate despite your history, that says alot. Stop acting like these endorsements are not important.

The difference between Obama supporters and Hillary supporters is that we recognize that Hillary is a very capable and able person to be president of this country. She's simply not the best available person at this time. She is really in no position to change anything. Hillary supporters might as well be republicans because you guys wont even recognize that Obama is a qualified leader. If their colleagues can recognize it, what's your hang up?

This is just great. It is gonna be over on may 6. Obama will lose Penn, but after that, he will win NC and Indiana, then it will be over. And in between , he will pick up Guam,,, just a couple of delegates, but they count at this point. It's over,, now Clintons mission is to make sure Obama doesn't win the general election.
And by the way, George Stephanophils of ABC was probably fed the debate questions by Clintons. He used to work in Bills white house.

Ok, I have listened, looked, read, and looked again. Can someone please tell me what Obama really has to offer us. He has no record to exam, he speaks well but there is no real substance. Hope for what? I do not get it. I really believe that many people feel that by supporting him they can say look at me I am so progressive in my thoughts and deeds I voted for Obama. Give me Colin Powell or Condee they have something to look at but Obama nothing. However, please rest easy in your beds if he is elected you showed how progressive your are with this support but get ready to pay for it in taxes and security.

Dubb   April 18th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter. He appears to be too good to be true, but I am willing to take that chance. Four years with Obama in the White house, cannot be any worse than the continuation of a 3rd term President Bush's polices. Obama surrounding himself with experience is the best thing he could do for his presidency if elected. Furthermore, NOTHING cannot be done or changed if you are unable to bring people together.

Maggie   April 18th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Come on you men, are you feeling threatened by a woman. Are you afraid that she will do a better job than any of the male candidates. Is it your male ego that making you endorse a less qualified candidate who does not have any experience to become president? We women should stick together and show these male chauvanists that a female can do and will do a better job than any white or black male.

These men would rather vote for someone who is going to bring more disaster to America than vote for a qualified woman. That tells me that they are insecure in themselves and does feel threatened. So thats why when I see all you women voting for Obama you are letting your own gender down and making these men feel that a woman cannot do a better job than them.

Come on you women lets get our female candidate elected and we will see America back on top again. Are we not proud to see a woman who is stronger and more qualified get nominated? We want woman to have equal rights but we are not willing to put our own in that position where she can achieve that for us.

Mac   April 18th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Sorry Dems – I won't follow you off the cliff. This is becoming a re-play of the Bush team – shore up the weak guy with some of the experienced players to give him credibility. Give me a break. Losing respect for the dems day by day.

Terrence W from NC   April 18th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Hillary spporters, lend an ear.. Let rap a bit. Okay, here we have a recent trend of Hillary's friends who are going over to Obama. Granted, we voters know our politics to some extent, however EVERY SINGLE TIME a man/woman takes into account the backlash he/she's gonna receive for going to Obama's side, you have to admit : THEY MUST KNOW SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T. It's not always just about supporting someone cause they are your friend, cause they are a woman or black. It takes great courage to do what many of these guys are doing. they know people are going to hammer them, but they are lookin to what the country will benefit from. I'm an OBAMA supporter, but I long favored the CLINTONS until this campaign.

My point is: not everyone is a traitor or Judas or stupid. Maybe we just see something that you guys also see but don't want to. Understand their policies are similar, but they is something extra OBAMA has that struck me. — the ability to bridge gaps. Hillary hasn't yet demostrated that. That's why I support OBAMA

It isn't true that America is not ready for a woman president. America is not ready for HILLARY CLINTON to be president.

As more and more of Bill Clinton's former ministers and friends endorse Obama, the clearer it becomes how poorly the Clintons must have treated them in the past, and/or how much they know about the Clintons' "skeletons in the closet."

Nunn and Boren would have supported Hillary, ahd they thought she had a prayer of beating McCain in November. These two veteran politicians who are from the few Democratic Party insiders are sending a loud and clear message to the people of PA to do the right thing, and finish the primaries by voting for Obama. I hope they are listening.

Dan , TX   April 18th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Unity '08. The Obama/McCain race will be very interesting. Unfortunately for McCain, his party abused its power and now is going to be punished for it. Obama will be a calm and thoughtful President, who will listen to all sides of the issues in putting together a policy on the issues that we can all get behind.

I don't believe social security, health care, iraq, etc. can be fixed with a wave of the wand or that the solutions will look exactly like any of the proposed solutions by the candidates. However, Obama already has talked to a wide variety of people, even people he doesn't agree with, and has proposals that make very good starting points in getting to acceptable solutions.

To Noah, Obama didn't lose the debate according to the polls. ABC, George Step. and crooked teeth Charlie were idiots, they made a fool out of themselves with that crap of a debate. 5th graders could have done a better job and Hillary just made herself look more like a bitter old women. If Sen. Obama was lacking so much, then why are people that were friends with the Clinton's and worked in the Clinton administration are endorsing Obama, it's because the truth is that he is better for this country than Hillary or McCain. Get over it.

K. Adams, Pennsylvania   April 18th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

. . .There is nothing else that Hillary can say that is relevant to the
fact that she is too far behind to catch up in the delegate count.

I am a Obama supporter and believe he can win. But I have to agree the questions asked in the debate and what Hillary is doing. She is right the repubs are going to drill these personal issues day after day until the election. I say hillary keep going because the more we get it out into the public scene now the majority of questions americans have will be answered. Therefore what will the repubs have left but to reiterate what already been said and answered. I just think Obama needs to be more straight forward with some of the answers he gives regarding his personal relationships. Because regardless they do matter look at what happened to Bill!

Obama as you people may have flaws but what can be worst then another 4 years of the Clinton's. If there are any faults it will be blunders because when everyone get a new job they have to put up with the people that are still there that don't want change unless they retire or just leave. So give Obama a chance to prove himself before you tear him down. This country has improve over the last five months so let go for it, we have nothing to lose. RLG Virginia   April 18th, 2008 3:18 pm ET

As did Reich.
It looks like the Senator from Illinois is getting the support of some respected senior party leaders, and is putting together a team that should convincingly answer the critics' claims that he is inexperienced and unprepared. And I think more outspoken centrist and liberal democrats will endorse him prior to the convention. Hillary looks like she's desperate, and like McCain, is stopping at nothing to blow Obama's statements out of proportion, and to keep slinging the mud at him. As long as he doesn't respind by going negative, and continues to lead with civility, and help broker cooperation between democrats and republicans (something no president has done in decades!), he's got my vote.

No back bones?
Unite the Party
Unite the party
Obama has brought more new Dems into the party then ever before.
You do not want to jeopardize that
They will not go to the polls in Nov for Hillary...not after donating $$$ to Obama. Obama is their candidate. If you donate...you show up at the polls, common sense. But if the Super-delegates, or Hillary steals the election from him... they will not show up, I will not show up, and I am a white, 55 year old female, Hillary's base.... who will not vote for her. I will stay home.
Super-delegates... DO YOUR JOB.

Don't let the conservative media fool you America. They will say anything to divide America. They will say irrelevant things about Wright, Farrakan, the bitter statement. As a former Georgian, I know Sam Nunn carries great weight... A possible running mate. He could be create (forgive me) the democratic answer to Bush/Chen.... But people may wonder who is the policy maker but right now that is risk Obama should take. Only problem is Nunn is 70 that would leave the Presidency open again in 8 years, but I could live with that.

The irony: Obama needs someone seasoned an Gray on the ticket while McCain needs someone young and inspiring.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   April 18th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

Eliminating divisions in our country???

I don't think that crushing small business owners with more income and social security taxes, and de-evolving the free enterprise so that only "mega companies" are able to compete will create a whole lot of healing.

Creating a tilted social welfare system–that supports stupidity, laxity, and laziness–by providing a government program for every social ill and handouts for everything from natural disasters to stupid mortgage decisions won't make a lot of people happy.

Those folks who are working multiple jobs and making financial sacrifices in order to insure their families security WITHOUT government handouts–won't be too easy to convince there is not a double standard.

Cnn, I bet you won't post this !

To Tom,

Your Statistics which you state as if they were carved into stone are in reality invisible ink, scribbled on toilet paper.

Anyone with any intelligence knows that whomever wins the party nomination will get the vast majority of the democratic vote no matter what is said in the heat of insane moments, simply because their lives and the lives of their families won't be put into financial, emotional and security jeopardy, for another four years.

Fortunately,..Most are not like you who hold onto ridiculous spin, and disctraction, designed to comfort those desperately seeking anything which will align with their backward prejudices.

We have evolved while you, like Neanderthal will simply fade away because you could not keep up with the times.

Debby   April 18th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

All these people endorsing Obama and yet he can't win the big electoral states so far. The red states he won will stay red in the general and Florida will definitely go for McCain with Lieberman's push. So how in the world are the Dems. going to win in November is the big question. Kerry and Gore couldn't make it as they pounded stump after stump about the economy and Kerry even had more amunition with a failed war in Iraq when he ran.

SUE, Michigan   April 18th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

So they are offered positions in his government and decide to endorse him. And this is important why? And as far as former Clinton backers joining up, could it be that Clinton will shed the old guard and look for qualified people from both parties to fill slots? And perhaps this ticked off the old guard? Just wondering.
I do not see Obama as bringing people together-he has done more to divide the Democrats than anyone, and every day more lies surface. He lied in the debates about his campaign contributions (no PAC or oil money is a lie, folks!) but that seems to be acceptable because, hey, he's a man, and we sure can't trust a woman in the White House, can we, guys? Sexism abounds.

How sad that so many of the comments on this blog are so very negative. As a Clinton supporter; I am dismayed by these endorsements. As a loyal Democrat and a student of American politics, I marvel at their historic importance. Two moderate and influential former Senators from Southern and border states are endoring an African American for President.

Soon, very soon, it will be time to put the primary battles behind us, and join together to support our nominee, whomever that may be and defeat Senator McCain, a well meaning man stuck in the disastrous Republican politics of the past eight years.

Way to go Obama!

I have a few real questions for Clinton supporters. Responses would be appreciated.

Clinton said "Yes, yes, yes" Obama can win the general election. Do disagree with her thinking or do you think that she didn't really mean what she was saying?

If Hilary loses the primary and tells you to support Obama, how will you react? And if you still will not support him, how will you justify choice despite your candidate asking to do so?

By the way I live in Michigan and did not vote in our "primary" because I was told that the votes would not count. I thought this because those were the rules were laid out and even Clinton months ago admitted that the votes would not count for anything. I know some of people might say that I must not have cared much about the process to not participate, but I have a busy life and didn't feel the need to take part in a beauty contest.

I'm sick of out of staters being "outraged" over the disenfranchisement of MI and FL. Am I upset about it? Slightly. I would have liked my vote to count, but I realize that a revote just isn't feasible. Have you been to MI lately. The economy is in shambles. We don't have the money for revotes when we can barely afford to pay for our government to keep running (I kid you not a few months ago our state government was just a few hours shy of almost shutting down because we could not get a budget approved.)
This is a real issue.

I would have been "outraged" if we spent millions of dollars on another election when obviously some state officials made a bad decision and broke party rules.

The truth is that most people don't care about our state or our economy. You just complain because you want our votes. And that is the real "outrage."

Interesting that each time Sen. Obama racks up an endorsement - even if it's my average-joe neighbor - it's touted on CNN. However, the fact that Sen. Clinton has been endorsed by over 300 elected officials in PA alone, dozens of top-notch generals/admirals, and more governors than both Sen. Obama and McCain combined somehow escapes the slippery hands of the so-called reporters.... GO HILLARY!

I am so disappointed with former Senators Nunn and Boren. For them to be in bed with George Soros and MoveOn.org et al is beyond comprehension. I used to have so much respect for them. While few would call them Conservative they were at least Moderate Democrats which is where I thought most of the party was. This is shades of '72 and George McGovern and we got Nixon. Will no one speak up for political sanity.

Jeanne   April 18th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Obama keeps picking up good advisors for potential White House advisors. With good people around him, he can overcome inexperience.

Brian   April 18th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

and the trail to the nominee's door is opening wider now. Clinton just never got it did she? and the Republicans tactics of supporting Clinton didn't work...just as I suspect their tactics won't come November.
Nunn and Boren are both good men who would not have made this choice lightly. They made it now to show support while all around them run kindergarden children made because they are not getting their way.

It doesn't even matter anymore if the race goes on. Even if Hillary somehow pulled it off the DNC could not give it to her. All her work, money down the drained, what a waste. After watching the reaction of Obama and his supporters from the ABC debate, I knew if he isn't the nominee there will be riots this summer. People are interested in getting to know the type of person a candidate is, but apparently that is not the case with Obama. How can people want someone to run the country that they don't know? How can people entrust their future to an unknown?

The presidency will be grace with the presence of a dynamic and qualified woman for sure. It just isn't Hillary Clinton, that's all. She's not what's needed at this time, Obama is and more and more people at all levels are realizing it. This race will be over a lot sooner than most would care to admit. Great news, after Wednesday's fiasco, all the remaining Superdelegates need to step forward and make a decision. McCain is being left alone to do what he pleases. We need to rallying around Obama and win this election.

Cindy,CA   April 18th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Makes me wonder what they are thinking? Obama is liberal and getting backers who normally would not take a second look at him.

I don't understand why Obama is getting away with so much baggage not being vetted. The democratic party does not seem to care when new damaging information comes out about him. I have been reading about Ayers, etc for months now.

Dean seems to want the nomination process to go forward more quickly. The mistake about this is the Republican party is ready, willing and able to start the process of vetting Obama. He's toast.

I am a Hillary supporter who will not vote for Obama. The party officials keep saying we will come together in November. That is not true. This nomination process has been a disaster and will have to be fixed before we try to get a democrat in office in 2012.

That statment is so funny to me considering Obama has actually divided us as a nation and shown us that there is actually people that PREACH, Im sorry RANT and SPEW hatred of fellow Americans and race bait in pulpits. Now this is a JOKE.

Way to go Boren! I am a fellow Oklahoman.

boomonkey   April 18th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

And the lead just keeps getting bigger...

I find it just bizarre that there are actually people out there that REALLY think that Hillary not only can, but WILL win the nomination. And they are completely serious. Pretty scary.

I can understand backing your candidate, but at what point do you realize your being delusional. Never? This race was over in Feb., folks. Nothing more to see here. See you in Nov.

Scott ATL   April 18th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

It's like trying to get ketchup out of a new bottle... You beat on it and tap it from the bottom, but once it starts to trickle out, then it all comes at once...lol I think the superdelegates will begin to decide in Obama's favor in pretty much, the same fashion.

For those of us that remember what it was like before squeezable ketchup bottles...lol

I've always loved my country, but I'm becoming increasingly proud of the mature and thoughtful way Americans are approaching this process this time around.

While media and pundits foam at the mouth about ridiculous measures of a candidate such as gutterballs and lapel pins, the electorate is shrugging it off and saying, "This is stupid."

As superdelegates gauge public reaction and see we voters are beyond trivial missteps and other banalities that don't put food on American tables, they understand Obama's message is resonating and they are clearly more and more comfortable to stand up and be counted in his camp.

Real Change   April 18th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

I somewhat know David Boren; we attend the same church in Norman, Oklahoma. Senator Boren has recently hosted a symposium on returning decency, honesty and moderation to American politics, and has also written a book on the subject. Clearly, he, Nunn and the others who have recently indorsed Obama, (including former Clinton labor secretary Robert B. Reich) are trying to put an end to Hillary’s brand of ceaseless political non-since. Boren can be doing this for no reason other than person conviction as Oklahoma Democrats went for Clinton overwhelmingly. Clearly he feels that he has found in Obama a candidate that plays to “the better angels of our nature,” and not the nasty political extremes.

There is no self-service in this move, and it deserves applause.

Susan MO   April 18th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

At this point, it does not matter who joins Obama's team.

Obama has lost a lot of America's trust, after he rudely insulted the people of Pennsylvania. And to top it off, he 'made light of it', which is basically laughing in their faces.

We do not need a president who insults the people. He is too critical.

And one who does not want anymore debates.

Therefore, it does not matter who joins Obama' team.

Now Strongely for Hillary Clinton :)

ANTI CLINTONS   April 18th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

The fact that these 2 senators have endoresed Obama and have accepted invitations as part of his advisory team is a prime example of the quality of people that he will have around him to be President. Obama – thank you for giving us HOPE. You are the answer to my prayers and will help me give my young son a better life. Thank you so much.

“I believe that Senator Obama has a rare ability to restore America’s credibility and moral authority and to get others to join us in tackling serious global problems that will determine our own well being and security,” Nunn said in a statement. -Sam Nunn cnnpolitics.com

Look at what his peers think about him. He is the best. How come some people dont see that he has just abount every top democrat on his side. His poise speaks volumes for his true character, not what Hillary is projects its sad that the media has so much influence, because people are really questioning his character. All

So, I'm a little confused. Who are all these superdelegates who will supposedly flock to Hillary Clinton after the voters side with Barack Obama? It seems that everyday important members of the Democratic Party are jumping on a message of "tomorrow" over "yesterday"? Is HC expecting local officials to rule against the voters and party elders? Her last great hope is fading which means only one thing: she will bring Senator Obama down with her.

Come on, Mr. Dean, get control of this thing. There is simply no math that works for her, no matter how much the mainstream media wants the ratings for the next three months. End it.

Dina Phila., Pa   April 18th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

He is building up a great team. This is what a great leader would do. Start picking out the Number 1 picks in every category. Great work Obama! Keep them coming. Former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich has endorsed Barack Obama. What does this tell you about the Clintons? When they have several people that once supported them, now completely switch their support to Barack Obama? Even they have grown weary of Hillary and know that she has conducted herself and her campaign in a deplorable manner. Boy, I tell you what she is going to have to face when she has to go back to her Senate seat this summer.

You would think Hillary Clinton would open her eyes to the fact that she is not winning. The Clinton's laid claim to 2008 years ago for her and they can not accept the fact that an unknown young senator has for all practical purposes beat her. She needs to leave the ego behind and join with Obama to beat McCain. The democrats should have been able to sleep through this campaign season and beat a Republican after all George W. Bush has done to this country. The longer she continues with her silly season politics the longer John McCain gets a free ride.

Clark Shaffer   April 18th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

One thing seems to be abundantly clear in looking at the Obama campaign. 1st, he is gathering support from substantial political figures of late, unlike Hillary. 2nd, he has dealt with issues that, in past and/or with lesser candidates, would have completely derailed a "less competent" challenger for the office of President. Race and age aside, I know, the two biggest issues we seem to focus on, Obama appears to be the candidate with the most to offer the American public as President, and his campaign seems to be stable and secure in it's message AND with the messenger.

Sue   April 18th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Time to go hone, Hillary. We want a new America based on the will of the people, not the pundits.

Jay   April 18th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Who are some recent folks that have endorsed the other candidates? Don't follow a pointed statement against Obama with an endorsement to try and manipulate the reaction. Don't be so obvious! And if you're going to parade one candidates endorsements, parade the others.

Kel from Bham, AL   April 18th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

This is great.

See, the thing about Obama is that he understands how to listen to the wisdom and experience of others, instead of relying on knowing everything himself.

Senator Clinton has this attitude of "the president gives the military the orders, not the other way around", and that to me says that she will be less likely to listen to the commanders on the ground that know what they're talking about.

Obama may not have as much as experience as Clinton, there's no argument there. What he does have is the humility to not be too proud to ask for help. When people like this get behind him, there's nothing he can do except succeed.

Obama 08!

Concern Dem   April 18th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Why would these two intelligent men with over 60 years of experience endorse the freshman from Illinois? Big names in Dem party need to think about this very carefully. Clinton name is damage good, we lost the congress in the second term of Bill clinton. If clinton wins this primary, republican will unite like they never have before and 2004 attacks on John Kerry will look like a joke against what they will have on Clintons. MSM has not talk about all the clinton baggage, including over $500 million for the liabrary, Paul Vs Clinton, Bill getting money from China, Arab, Columbia. All these and more will come up in Nov against Clintons. More than 50% of the country already said that they will never vote for Hillary. With Hillary there is no Gray area, either you like her or don't. Her negative rating is almost 60%, will sure lose to American Hero McCain. Please think before you vote PA, this is for the Future of this country.

It is time to end this war and put our vote behind Obama. Hillary, though she has many supporters, there is no way she can win. Bill didn't help her out either with his shifty deals with Colombia. She also made herself look bad when she said, "If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen." Might I remind her that she did more complaining then anybody else and especially during the MSNBC debate a couple of months ago. Things are looking good for Obama. People in PA, do the right thing. Former Labor Secretary under Bill Clinton also endorsed Obama today. I don't know if any of these folks are super delegates, but it sounds like they've been listening to Howard Dean, who called on the unaligned to make their choice between the two candidates.

If this keeps up (or if Hillary runs out of money and credit) we might even see Lanny Davis or Howard Wolfson come out in support of Obama.

Of course if they did, Obama would have to reject and denounce it.

Fabienne   April 18th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Well thats great.. Maybe they can get him and his supporters to stop whining about the debate he lost. I am tired of the media twisting everything. Obama loses and now he is a winner because he came up with a bias story..Where was he and his supporters when this happened over and over to Clinton. Plus, the bloggers scream they want to talk about issues, when all they have done for four months is gossip and lie about Hillary on the blogs..Please. Hypocrites, Obama, his supporters, and the MSM that refuses to ask him a tough question. Guess that's why he is putting smart people behind him. Maybe than can be truthful.

Obama seems bitter about the debate and is clinging to retoric and false hope to cover the fact that he lost and lied.

Tom   April 18th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

What makes this fascinating are the reasons Sam Nunn said that he's backing Obama, and I've listened to this from several of his supporters......."His judgment and ability to inspire people to come together" were the two top reasons Nunn stated regarding Obama. This while noting that Florida and Michigan have now been dismissed from any meaningful vote because Obama wouldn't help, 26% or more of Hillary voters won't vote for Obama if he's the nominee, the leader of the DNC looking like a total idiot as he gives commands and no one listens, 86% of African Americans are voting for Obama while about 60% of whites are voting for Clinton and the party is hopelessly split. Then there's Obama's judgement, as noted in the first paragraph, his various attachments to Mr. Wright and the unrepentent building bomber and his wife's comments and his failure to make a decision about whether the President should be at the Olympics or exactly what he'd do if he actually DID get a call at 3 a.m. . I could go on and on. Then this great uniter couldn't even show up in Memphis on the anniversary of the death of the REAL great uniter because he was too busy campaigning in Indiana. He is the most divisive, childish, and indecisive person I've seen in quite some time. Maybe Mr. Nunn has seen pigs fly, trees growing dollar bills and pink elephants walking down the street as well? Or maybe he got ahold of some of that good stuff Obama used to do. The man is nuts – back Obama if you must but come up with a better reason – maybe you think he's cute and a real good talker?

Oh, and giving Hillary the finger?? Combine this with his arrogance, false sense of entitlement, sarcasm and anger when confronted with issues and deflecting instead of answering questions and you have a teenager. Obama's just another kid – no wonder he gets the young vote. I bet he promised to make recess longer and get more open book tests, didn't he???

Midge from Ohio   April 18th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Where can I get a bumper sticker that says "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for Obama". We will need it if he wins the nomination and the election because he will ruin our great country with his lack of experience and balls.

Jim   April 18th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Tick, tock.

Tick, tock.

That's time, running out on the Hillary campaign.

Chuck in Oregon   April 18th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

It sure would be nice if they were super delegates, or willing and able to go on the Campaign trail with Obama. He is doing this on his own and although doing a great job could use the help in squashing the Clintons (Hillary, Bill and Chelse). I would love to see him close the gap to a tie or a few points ahead in PA, that would be the end of her run at that point in time.

Eric   April 18th, 2008 2:25 pm ET

Thank you Senators Sam Nunn and David Boren for your support!!!

Go OBAMA!!!!!

Uncle Sam   April 18th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

"A growing number of our European allies, such as France, Germany, and Italy, have recently elected more conservative leaders in order to revitalize their economies." It sounds like they might be looking forward to a McCain presidency.

Americans for McCain '08

honkey white guy from cali   April 18th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Thanks for the support now lets keep moving!

Hey Clinton supporters perhaps you should go to google and search for the court case that starts on April 25th they Clinton's are being taken back to court in the California supreme court after a lower court of course a judge appointed under Bill Clinton ruled that Sen Clinton could not be called in! well guess what her comes the subpoena is on it's way! Oh I forgot the case is about how they committed fraud to get her elected to the senate!

Go Obama 08

sandrabarret   April 18th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

YES WE CAN!

PA   April 18th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Wow!! What wonderful endorsements! Both of these men know that Obama will unite Washington and get things done! We need to bring to an end the past 28 years of either a Bush or a Clinton as V-P or President. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!

mike ikem umealo   April 18th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

wise men fly together and divisive and polarising people who wish to always see a divided USA can keep it wil hillary.

Jamaal Kansas   April 18th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Thank you former senators for making an excellent choice. We welcome you to the team!

Linlo   April 18th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

You forget to mention Robert Reich, former labor sec under the Clintons. Anybody wonder why the people who used to work under the Clintons are supporting Obama?

Bayou Joe   April 18th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

Welcome to the Titanic. You guys really think you have something here. Maybe the youth will now realize these are the same old washed up politicians that are more interested in power than doing the public good.

Without Hillary and her supporters this is a sinking ship.

In order to restore credibility you must have some of your own and Obama has no credibility to speak of.

I challenge these Old guard Senators to name one piece of legislation that Obama has gotten through Congress. I will make it easier name one incident where Obama worked with the opposing party to enact legislation.

America is in for a rude awakening if Obama becomes President.

Obama all the way...   April 18th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Another 2 jump on the Obama train. It is getting crowded on here.....

GOBAMA!!!!!

Jen-0-palooza   April 18th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Here comes the honor guard.
Watch out Hillary;
You're about to see how many colleagues are sick and tired of your spiteful, hateful and deceitful kind of politics.
It matters not that you're a woman.
It matters not that you're lying Bill's wife.
It matters that you yourself divide, lie and cheat, (just like Bill did).
Our country cannot afford to have you as President.
We need healing, you cannot possibly do that.

The Lady   April 18th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

WOW! Pack it up Hillary.

PA you see it! Vote smart. Vote Obama.

AZM   April 18th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

Just a few more names on the list of folks who will be back tracking when Obama falls on his face... which he will.

Everyday a little more BS comes out of the Obama camp... crying about "out of context statements" and making them about everyone else is just the latest.

Bye Bye Obama... it's only a matter of time!

PCM01   April 18th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

The last couple of weeks are suggesting that the superdelegates are finally removing themselves from the petty politics and reaching out to grasp the big picture.

It is a good thing for the democratic Party, and it is also positive for the country.

Edgar   April 18th, 2008 2:22 pm ET

I am a Hillary supporter and will support her to the end, but it seems that Barak will be our nominee. America is not ready for a woman President, but is ready for an African America. President.

Obama is a liberal and will compete as a liberal against McCain let us all hope that he will go to the center to win against McCain.

Clnton supporters, once this process is done let us all unite for Obama even if we don't want too.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   April 18th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

Sam Nunn would be a great choice as a VP candidate!!! His foriegn intelligence and experience are above reproach and he is a great addition to the Obama camp. Like my old boss used to say"surround yourself with stars!". I am impressed with Barack more and more each day as he is willing to bring others into his camp that may be more knowledgeable and experienced than he is but he does not appear to be intimidated by them. That is the sign of someone who is very secure with who they are and open to listening to suggestions and comments that may differ from his!

R. DEEZY   April 18th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

YES WE CAN!

The Dude   April 18th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

I don't care about who politicians are backing... I NEED TO KNOW WHO PARIS HILTON IS SUPPORTING! [/sarcasm]

ANYONE BUT MCCAIN '08!

Jason   April 18th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

Welcome to the winning team!

pmet   April 18th, 2008 2:20 pm ET

Fantastic! Two more respected, core democrats for Obama. It is now time for the remaining undecided superdelegates to turn the drip, drip, drip toward Obama into a full out watershed.

ART in TX   April 18th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

HEY, HO, LET'S GO!

mar   April 18th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

OBAMA lied again. Are they going to toast AUCHI like OBAMA did. It has been proven.

OBAMA has serious character flaws.

Jon   April 18th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

So Boren spends his career as one of the most moderate Senators out there, and then endorses one of the most liberal??? Come on, DB, did you read your "Letter to America"?
