Cindy McCain's worth is estimated to be over $100 million. The fortune is not in Sen. John McCain's name.

(CNN) - John McCain and wife Cindy do not file joint tax returns, and the campaign said Friday they will not release her 2006 and 2007 tax returns along with the candidate's.

The campaign argues that the two keep their finances separate, and that she has privacy concerns for her kids.

The Obamas and the Clintons both file taxes jointly.

Some of Cindy McCain's financial statements have been released as part of regular Senate disclosures.

The McCain campaign notes John Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz, did not release her complete tax returns during the 2004 campaign.

An heiress to her father's stake in Hensley & Co. of Phoenix, Cindy McCain's worth has been estimated to be around $100 million.

Okay so we have it on McCains word that they keep their finances completely separate...riiiiigggghhhtttt I'll file that right alongside Hillary's account of landing under sniper fire.

Well at least we can be pretty sure that this will be the last time McCain will be running.

Mrs. McCain has a vast fortune. She is wealthy thanks to her father's distribution company and strong ties to beer giant Anheuser Busch. If this isn't big money behind McCain then I don't know what is. And excuse me, but with a wealthy wife, you can finance anything...everytime I see McCain all I can think of is: "have another Bud" as his campaign slogan.

I am sick of McClintons.. They give charity to them selves. McCain gave $105,467 to their family foundation and got tax deduction.

I did my charitable contribution better than McClintons. No wonder they are out of touch with us.

Why not Cindy's? Pre-nup agreement or not, it still needs to be made available.

Scott Meyer   April 18th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

McCain is taking the same position that Kerry's wife took in 2004. Inevitably, I think she'll have to disclose her returns because of the heat they'll get.

Untrained eyes looking at the returns will think something is fishy. Keep in mind, they reside in a AZ, a community property state, one of eight or so such states. They are like parallel universes in that all wages and salaries are treated as one-half earned by each spouse. When you look at his actual returns, he shows half of his senator's and half of her company salary. She's making about $432K (for 2007).

Now, depending on the state, investment income may or may not be considered community property. Looking at the return, it's hard to say.

She has an interest in a profitable closely held business. That said, I'll bet that she's been carving up her interest among trusts for the benefit of their kids and that, frankly, ain't anyone's business but that family's.

If Obama and Clinton did it, then McCain should have to do it. Secrecy and lack of transparency is a major reason that so many Americans are "angry" or "bitter" with the current government. If McCain wants to prove that he's different from Bush, he should start by showing some transparency. Release the tax returns!

Jane, NC   April 18th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

I think Cindy's would probably take our breath away, so let's just leave them alone, shall we? Besides, I doubt if her charitable contributions even come close to the sizeable ones made by the Clintons.

Justine, Cincinnati   April 18th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Thanks Vince from Phoenix!

Though it may seem trivial to some, I think tax returns can say alot about an individual. Like, lets say you are against trade agreements with Colombia, but on your tax returns, your husband made a large sum of money for speeches pushing for a trade agreement... It speaks a lot to me anyway... You are either for it or against it.

And I'm sorry – if Hillary is in the White House, Bill will be in the WH and have a lot more say in politics than some people might like to believe. You really are voting for the whole package – not just one side of the marriage.

Mrs. McCain's fortune will be inherited by her own children, who will probably run the company when she steps-down. Putting her income taxes "out there" now would be a business mistake, at the least. She never said it was her new husband's money, or that he would be receiving any of it.

This is not something that John McCain just did for the election.
They have always filed separate taxes as long as they have been married.

why he got a loan on his life insurance.

I've read a few people knock this. Well when you make around $420,000 a year, and your wife has about $200 million, it makes common sense to file separately. Heaven forbid common sense is out the window...

Also, a few of you fired at McCain for not giving to charity. Well, the link on his tax returns clearly shows he donated $105,000 of his salary to charity, literally 25%... so please read before you make a very ignorant and bigoted comment about somethign you know nothing about...

btw I'm a democrat, but I choose the side of reason and common sense over party platforms anyday.

America needs to get real and start to concentrate on what McCain can do for this nation to reverse the "downard trend" of America's performance.......knowing what his wife's annual income is not part of the solution.

Koze   April 18th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

If Bill Clinton or Michele Obama had refused to release their taxes, there would be such an outrage like you have not seen in a long time.

Cindy McCain is part of the campaign; who knows whether or not a lobbyist paid something into one of her bank accounts.

Teflon John should not get away with hiding a source of income to which he certainly has access.

Hillary should spend a little time attacking McCain instead of her fellow Democrat. Incidentally, I will vote for either one of them. I hope they can get together and run on the same ticket: it would be a double historical time in the history of this great country.

Reality Check   April 18th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

So what! Who cares how much a candidate makes. It's irrelevant. It's not their bank account that matters. Rather, it is their ability to understand voters and the issues that matter to every American. A candidiate can be of moderate income and still look down at average Americans (and shun their values) or a candidiate can do well financially and yet they can understand the average American. It's not the bank account that matters but the attitude. Hillary Clinton understands us and she understands what matters to us in these tough times. She is the only candidiate who gets "it" and who also respects our middle America values. She is the only Democrat who can win the swing states (Ohio, Fl, TN, AK, PA, WV, KY, NH, NM) that the Dems desperately need to win in Nov.

The reason Obama and Hillary revealed their spouses tax returns is because they were filing "joint" returns. In essence the tax returns of both are in one document. The article says that McCain and his wife have been filing separare returns for years. Hers is a completely separate document and no need to be revealed since she is not running for public office. Still everybody knows that all three presidential candidates are millionaires whether on their own or through their spouses. Wish I were one.

Ilona Proud Canadian   April 18th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Do you guys buy their argument for not filing Mrs McCain's tax returns?
I sure don't! You don't know what could be buried in her returns, I don't know about the US tax policies, but here in Canada, there are such things as spousal transfers. Also there could be numerous Sen. McCain's transactions that were put in her name just to hide them. I find it hard to believe, that, given the opportunity to file joint returns, they have chosen not to, it's obvious there are benefits to gain from filing jointly. Why do you think the Clintons and Obamas file jointly? There has to be a fundamental reason why the McCains have made this choice.

I don't care how much money any of them are worth. When John McCain was running against George Bush I felt empathy for him especially when they attacked him by using racial content. They used racism by showing pictures of the beautiful baby they had adopted from Indonesia and tried to say he had a black love child. This helped Bush win. I lost respect for him when after that he embraced Bush. Now with him taking on all of President Bush's policies I no longer respect him. He used to be his own man and I think he would have won over more people if he was The Maverick. Now he is a duplication of Bush.

It's not like they don't share a life. It's not as if at dinner time she eats steak and John has a hotdog. She's his wife and she's there for him on the campaign. When you run for president the separate filing status don't cut it. Voters see her money as his money for the most part. For the sake of letting the people in on the immedate family loot they should release her taxes too.

And as for the lame rationale citing Kerry's wife tax returns, the McCains shouldn't do what Kerrys did unless they want the same results.

My round!   April 18th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

It's the coolest thing on earth that a beer heiress could be the First Lady!!
Just imagine the possibilities!!! Seriously, they file separately, as many of us do...get over it..she's rich, all the candidates are rich or have huge earning potential...that's just part of reality...

atenas   April 18th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

it's so stupid that people are making a big deal about someone's taxes. who cares! why base your decision on who to vote for in the election on taxes? we've got people saying they're ashamed to be an american based on the questions asked during the debate on wednesday night and now this. people, get your priorities straight. it's just taxes and questions!

Just because she's an elitist doesn't mean anything. ; ) I wonder what the Busch company is lobbying for?

Love Huckabee   April 18th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

She should, because Michell and Barack did, and so did Billary. She's rich, not that I care, and she needs to be forth right. If only Barck released his, then there would be something said.

So, John Kerry is your yardstick now? Whatever suits this "straight talker" .

Jerry   April 18th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

The pill-popping stepford is footing McCain's bill...good thing he walked out on his first wife for the richer second wife that he was cheating with...and good thing, he didn't walk out on this stepford for the lobbyist he was subsequently cheating with...
At least the weasel can pick the right woman to support his own agenda. What a weak individual.

no wonder she is so proud of this country...she has reaped all the benefits of being raised wealthy. had she been poor AT ALL during her lifetime she may understand why some of us PEASANTS are BITTER towards the fact that almost every previous president has been raised in wealth and has special interests attached to the wealthy.

this is a great country, no doubt. However, i agree with Michelle Obama that this is the first time I am proud to call myself American because we have, for the first time in a long time, a candidate who actually acheived the American Dream without it being handed to him (hint, hint McCain, Clinton)

Obama 08

Dan in Milwaukee   April 18th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Not nearly as much as the Democratic candidates, but still quite hefty. Scottsdale life is demanding. Since it is significantly lower, is Mccain trying to take a humble approach? Sorry, it still does not equate to a more accurate representation of the people.

Yvonne   April 18th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

If it were Michelle Obama who was not releasing her tax returns, the media and Hillary's camp would be pouncing on them.

Cindy McCain's income has no bearing on the Presidential campaign unlike Teresa Heinz Kerry's did in 2004.

I am an Obama supporter and I dont care if Cindy's tax returns isnt made public. She isnt running for President.

Rickey   April 18th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

She should release your taxes! She follows her husband around and is right on his heels at every speech and gathering! This family is the one who should be called "Elitist". Things may look good on the outside, but peel back the covers and let us find about this candidate!

Lindsay   April 18th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

That's completely ridiculous – as if her wealth has nothing to do with his? As if he's not benefiting from having a super-rich wife? McCain needs to step up and stand for transparency. Especially if he's going to accuse others of elitism. As far as I can tell, Obama has been the only truly transparent candidate in this race. Hillary has gone along with SOME transparency, when she is completely forced. John McCain is not even making an attempt to be transparent and sincere to the American people.

Dr. C   April 18th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Never McCain. He is mentally and physically unfit to be President.

again,, americans are doin just that,, not takin this election serious,,, listen to whats being said ,, about the issues,, thats what counts,, not the slapin each in the face,, many americans are not ready for the real thing, someone whose goin to turn this country around for the best,, Obama can do that , ,many arent ready for him because they cling to the neg comments about him and maybe change it a little to their liking,,, many are still prejudice against colored people,, come on americans,, hear whats really siad not what you want to hear, hillary and bill have decieved us before and she will do it again,,, the republicans would love to see her in there so they can pull her strings,, ( and trust me they will),, Its time for change and its not hillary,,,, GO OBAMA!!!! McCain don't believe in "Big Government "as ALL REPUBLICANS.
They want to get rid of all "intitlements, including S.S. Medicare,
Unemployment. America will never recuperate from that if it happens,
because Bush's Stimuli Package to "stimuli" the economy would have
to be sent out every month. 2 Billion borrowed from China for this
current Stimuli Package and America has to pay them with INTEREST!

McCains Health Care plan is: The employer won't have to pay any more: They only have to give you a small raise and you are on your
own!!!!!!! That includes you paying your own Health Care for your
whole family. Then you also lose all your benefits.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frosty   April 18th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

What if those lobbysts...his friends....deposit money in her bank account for favors done by McCain? What does she have to hide...tax breaks perhaps? Make this plastic doll looking woman release her taxes, PRONTO! Please for a change let's demand something of the republicans.

By the way, her eyes scare the hell outta me and wears too much make up.

Olu Akins   April 18th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

Honestly, I believe this is an arranged marriage. A marriage of convenience.

Matthew, Philadelphia, PA   April 18th, 2008 12:04 pm ET

I'm a Dem, but I find the double standard here pretty hypocritical. No one moaned about Teresa Heinz Kerry filing separately and not releasing her returns when John Kerry was running for president. And she's the one with the money keeping him in the windsurfing lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. It should be no different with the McCains. The whining Obamabot hypocrites on the far left are incredibly annoying and driving me and many others to the center and/or toward becoming independents.

Sandy   April 18th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Complete Disclosure

The rest of the candidates are supposedly.

We won't hold you kazillions against you, but you can't claim full transparency with out it.

I don't think John has a chance, but he still should abide by the rules the rest do.

Bill, Covington   April 18th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

How many of you posting complaints about Mrs. McCains taxes had the same complaints when Senator John F (big war hero) Kerry's wife did not release her taxes? Screw you freekin people.

DEE in fla   April 18th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

they are the scariest couple i have ever seen yo

Jason   April 18th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

To hide and seek unlike Hillary, McCain is unable to tap into his wife's earnings for his presidential bid. Hillary was able to take a 5 million loan with interest from bill's money. That is a big difference for your transparency argument. I don't see how you can make this argument when the dems have candidate clinton.

Dave in Houston   April 18th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Cindy McCain IS running for office. She's running for the office of First Lady. While it is not a constitutional office, the position of First Lady has a great deal of influence in this country. Abigail Adams, Dolly Madison, Mary Todd Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt, Lady Bird Johnson, Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton all made meaningful contributions to the history of this nation as First Lady, so being the wife of a presidential candidate is, therefore, also a candidate of sorts.

John McCain lives a lifestyle far beyond what his income alone could support thanks to his wife's wealth. It is just a technicality that they file separately, but the reality is that he has access to wealth far beyond his Senate pay, book royalties and Navy pension and WE THE PEOPLE deserve some insight into our potential President's finances.

Cynthia   April 18th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

The other candidate spouses were released and so should hers. Senator McCain seems a bit secretive to me. All I really know is that he wants to keep troops in Iraq for up to 100 years.

sj   April 18th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Of course she should disclose her tax returns. What's his is hers and vice versa. Voters deserve transparency. if it were Bill Clinton or Michelle Obama, their campaigns would be skewered (as in fact the Clintons were until they disclosed). Candidates have always disclosed their personal taxes and McCain should not be exempt - especially when he gets to enjoy his wife's millions and their 8 homes, etc. And to call Barack elite! (the only one who recently paid off his student loans!)

Tony   April 18th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Get over it. Big fat deal. They file separately. So do my wife and I to avoid getting absolutely screwed by the state tax in Ohio. Filing jointly would have cost us an extra $1700. Thanks, Gov. Strickland.

Jessica, MI   April 18th, 2008 11:58 am ET

Cindy McCain is the most stiff, frightening woman alive

An Agnostic Democrat   April 18th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Please! We want to see how much Barbie spends on her wardrobe and botox ... and family recipe cookbooks! Those would be the kind of books that haven't been cooked by her husband.

Jason   April 18th, 2008 11:56 am ET

To Hide and Seek Obama and Clinton haven't been transparent so how are you going to vote for them.

McCain donated his congressional pay increases since 1991 to charity. It totaled 450,000. McCain has donated all his money from books to charity unlike the Clintons.

Clintons won't release the foreign donor names to the Clinton library.

Geri   April 18th, 2008 11:55 am ET

Did you people not understand that they file separate returns??? The 2 Democratic candidates filed joint returns. Therefore, both incomes had to be released. Cindy McCain's money is old family money & I guess I wouldn't worry about it. She's savvy enough and so is he to know that somehow if there was wrong doing it would get leaked to the media. By the way, I'm a democrat, but am so tired of all this crap that is nothing but petty nastiness that are said on these blogs

monica, rochester ny   April 18th, 2008 11:55 am ET

So the Clinton supporters think it's none of our business where candidates get their money from (like the Clintons getting $800k from Colombian free trade lobbyists), but they do think we should investigate what church and religion a candidate has. Hmmmm, I thought there was no religious test for presidency.

But there is a conflict of interest test, which tax records help us understand.

Danny   April 18th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Hey......Mr. McCain now you still talking about John Kerry? he not running for President this time. Why not file joint if you want to be President? How about some marry couple or citizens file not joint like your guy what IRS going to do? because I want to file separate too.

GG   April 18th, 2008 11:53 am ET

Obama supporters... Be aware... These are the facts. He will have to answer these, and more questions if he does get the nomination.... And I do not believe he will make a good president . I really don't trust the guy...

merle 7   April 18th, 2008 11:51 am ET

The other two candiates exposed both spouses income so should McCain. You see he is already getting special treatment . All this talk about transparency.

Obama 08!

Unshrub   April 18th, 2008 11:50 am ET

For the person who pushed campaign reform like no other, he sure manages to get around all of those laws slicker than anyone else. But the only reason he has pushed for campaign finance laws were because of his involvement with the Keating 5. He is violating all campaign laws this year and he is the one who preaches integrity; integrity for everyone else, but not for himself.

Now for Obama   April 18th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Jason   April 18th, 2008 11:46 am ET

To hide and seek Hillary wouldn't release her 2007 tax returns.
Hillary won't release her public schedule from 2000-2006 and she is afraid the republicans will get a copy of it from homeland security.
Hillary won't release her earmark projects. Obama won't release his records from the illinios state senate. But you won't vote for McCain for this. His wife's records are already on record.

Howard, Shreveport, Louisiana   April 18th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I agree with John in PA. She is HOT!! But more to the point, her tax returns are non of our business just as much as Teresa Heinz-Kerry's tax returns are non of our business. Oh and let me repeat: She is HOT!!

Doug R.   April 18th, 2008 11:45 am ET

There should be complete disclosure. Both Democrats released their joint tax returns. McCain is a liar, a hypocrite, and an elitist. It's nobody's business, huh, unless it's Bill Clinton or John Kerry or some Democrat. Then the whole world needs to know. This lady is crooked and hiding something. She is just as much a fraud as her two-faced husband.

ne, Pennsylvania   April 18th, 2008 11:45 am ET

They are married. She has influence with him. Let's see where her money comes from, and where it goes, so there's no conflict of interest here. I think there's lots of smoke and mirrors with McCain.

Compare that to $100 mil Clintons wealth. Different color, don't you think?

frank O   April 18th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Of course she has to reveal what she makes. After all she is trying to be the first lady of this nation. And as such us Americans have every right to know where her money is coming from, what influences her because for sure she is going to influence the POTUS as the first lady and as his closest confidant.

Democratic Supporter   April 18th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I am sorry, McCain's wife should release her tax return. This is not full transparency at all. Cindy McCain knew what she was getting into when she messed w/this married man and then married him after divorced his 1st wife.

At this point suspicion is cast on him. He called Barak an elitist, but has backed off wow!!! He knew this was coming.

Transparency,, Transparency, Transparency John McCain.

For the love of this independent   April 18th, 2008 11:41 am ET

From watching fox news and the RNC, I am not seeing who the true elitist are. Have you noticed that the demands they place on the democrats does not apply to them. Have you also notice they do not just themselves by the same standard as everyone else. Have you notice that anyone that does not agree with their view of america is unpatriotic.

Have you notice when in comes to Wright and 9/11 comments they never state that he is quoting Edward Peck who was at one time Deputy Director of the Reagan White House Task Force on Terrorism.

This Is the definition of an Elitist. Not only to us but now America is seen as elitist to the world.

Ron L   April 18th, 2008 11:40 am ET

No offense to the Senator but coULD someone please explain to me how a person who is worth 100 million dollars has a CLUE what it is like for the average American.
The fact they file separate tax returns can be answered in one word...POLITICAL.
Really, I could NOT care less, Sen. McCann is NOT the correct person to be the next President. I felt the same way about our current President. His thinking is old school and will prove to be harmful to the nations future. His OBSESSION with Iraq, his flip-flop on the Bush tax cuts shows he is NO DIFFERENT than the rest of the politicians who have under performed the last 12 years.
I AM HOPING WE ARE SMART ENOUGH NOT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE!!

Anthony-Minneapolis,MN   April 18th, 2008 11:39 am ET

When Cindy McCain decided to actively and openly campaign for her husband to be president it immediately and automatically became the public's business. To all the posters so far, keep in mind cronyism, no bid contracts, etc. IF she has interests in other areas of the government that he as president has influence over we need to know. Its like John McCain and the lobbyists working out of his office.

Don't miss the bigger picture most of you seem to be missing. Conflict of Interest, ever heard of that phrase? It may be new to some but it is old.

Walter, Long Beach   April 18th, 2008 11:36 am ET

Incredible. Bush3 thinks that refusing to release information about something makes the issue go away.

What is there in our recent political history that would make anyone who still has functioning brain cells believe that will work. It only focuses attention on the issue, whether there is an actual issue there or not.

Dimwit!

Fox CNN   April 18th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Every comment i make pointing out Cindy McCain's worth and why they are hyopocrites with a long history of labor busting and hostility to workers, CNN ends up deleting it.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   April 18th, 2008 11:34 am ET

The politician is the person who should divulge all earnings.
She isn't running for office–her spouse is.

The public should respect her desire not to expose details of her personal finances to the nation.

Bill–didn't have to divlulge...Michelle didn't have to divulge. No spouse of a Presidential candidate should be held to the same level of scrutiny as the candidate him/her self.

It does not mean rich.

She is scary   April 18th, 2008 11:33 am ET

She is worth BILLIONS   April 18th, 2008 11:31 am ET

And she isn't going to worry a hoot about the common man and women. Never have. Neither of them.

Wake up and smell the coffee. No it isn't all about how much money you have. John Kerry had money but his policies were very worker friendly.

Cindy and John McCain's policies have been murder on the workers.
AND now they're hypocrites who call for disclosure of others taxes when the wife is worth more than Fort Knox.

Joe   April 18th, 2008 11:31 am ET

The word "Elitest" is being thrown around quite a bit. There are two types of Elitests.. One of material/financial wealth and the other of Power.. All 3 candidates fall into the Power category. 100M is not what is used to be. There are much more powerful folks behind the scnes thatn these 3 that are influencing this process.

Jim - Tucson   April 18th, 2008 11:31 am ET

John McCain should be swept into office..... finding a wealthy beautiful woman and keeping her happy... HE has good judgement!!

P   April 18th, 2008 11:29 am ET

my god people, what is the problem with this country where being rich=being elitist and obviously the only way someone can get rich is be doing something fishy and wrong??? for crying out loud, "humble" Obama is worth more than $4,000,000, which is less than Cindy McCain and the Clintons, granted, but still way more than any average american will make in a lifetime! Being elitist is not about being rich, or more intelligent, but by thinking you are more entitled and superior because of your wealth or intelligence...

Who is out of touch?   April 18th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Don't worry- McCain is known to call his own wife (in public mind you) some of the most degrading things.

McCain has anger issues. I voted for Obama but I will vote for Hillary over that anger management issues. McCain is a flip-flopper and the media has done nothing but dance around him and offer him donuts!

Barack H. Obama

I am not thrilled about his middle name, but the Man's poliies make sense. We had been running this Country with the same old failed policies for awhile now.

If you keep doing things the same way over and over and again and expect a different result. That equals MADNESS

We didn't talk to Cuba and Castro run the Country for over 40 yrs. What is wrong with our policies They lack COMMON SENSE.

Engage your enemies so reasonable people can see that you tried then Squash them when they don't comply.

I think the point here is that McCain had the audacity to come down on Obama with the Elitist comment, when he lives in in the top 1 % of ;this country's personal income. His neighbors must be the Clintons.

Obama in 08, 12   April 18th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Won't be president anyway, so I don't care what his wifes up to.

jl   April 18th, 2008 11:21 am ET

or ...

Perhaps he has the beginning stages of Alzheimers.

After all of his foreign policy EXPERIENCE, he has been

mixing up the Shi'ites and Sunnis quite a bit lately.

(I pray his health is well. But it concerns me that he has delayed the release of his medical records. Perhaps he should consider dropping out of the race and enjoying his latter years with his family.)

trellskig   April 18th, 2008 11:20 am ET

I smell somthing fishy and it stinks really bad...lol

For the love of this independent   April 18th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Ooooooooooooh No,

She is on the campaign stump. She is out there yelling about her patriotism and fake recipes. I want to know what she is contributing to. Because if Bill matters, and Michelle matters, then so does cindy. And since McCain has access to Cindy's money you best to believe it is relevant.

Chris Banner   April 18th, 2008 11:19 am ET

something fishy ???

Skepticus   April 18th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Cindy McCain is not the one running for President! Her tax returns are her business and no one else's. All of those people clamoring for her tax returns should first volunteer to disclose their own.

M.S. Indiana   April 18th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Would have been hard for McCain to defend an Elitist label if they had released hers to to...

NickNas   April 18th, 2008 11:18 am ET

TOTAL BS!

Of course he won't. Hell I just found out a few weeks ago that this woman is teh heir to the BUSCH BEER Fortune. ( I am almost positive it is Busch) But anyway she is a Billionair!!!

Also I heard ( RUMOR ALERT) that she is the woman he cheated on his last wife with then left her for this new one here THEN cheated on HER with a cute young lobbiest.

WOW talk about baggage.

It isn't going to help to try and distance himself from his wifes fortune. They Crucsified Kerry for His wifes wealth so turn about is fair play. But JUST WATCH how they try to cry foul when it is done to THEM!

fred   April 18th, 2008 11:18 am ET

She isn't running for office. Leave her alone. It isn't none of our Business what she has!!

Obama scares me!!! Wolf in sheeps clothing and cry baby to boot!!!

Go Hillary!!

Stacy Clarks, TX   April 18th, 2008 11:17 am ET

both democratic candidates released their JOINT taxes

what makes them so special?!?!

its so funny the republicans who say its non of the public's business, but they are the first to want to know the "silly" questions about Barack Obama.....WHO CARES (in your own words!!!)

OBAMA 08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike   April 18th, 2008 11:17 am ET

One thing to remember is that the Clintons made $100 million over 7 years and Obama made $4 million last year in just starting to reap the sales of his books. Obama outsold his books over Clintons so 2008 will be a very big year financially for him. However for some reason the obamabots are disturbed by the Clintons making so much money even though Obama is not far away.

The bottom line in deciding a person's character is not what they say at rallies or hype people up about but what they spend their own money on. The amount of money they make is irrelevant, but what they do with it.

The Clintons overpaid their taxes by 10% and gave 10% more to charities like the Nelson Mandella Fund. The Clintons have always been known for their support of minority causes.

Obama gave 5% to charity in 2007 which was mostly Rev. Wright's church. Obama says he denounces Wright's sermons but yet financially supports him well.

The proof is in the pudding.

Lake Hart - A Native American Writer   April 18th, 2008 11:17 am ET

What is the "Big Deal" – the Clintons are probably worth $100,000,00.00 too. Why do we have double standards – one for GOP and one for the Democrats? Could the IRS or Election Commission address this discreptancy ? Sincerely, Lake Hart, a Native American Writer.

When you see this Kind of Security, between Two People, it should make the Whole Country, if not the Whole World, feel much more Secure... With a Leader like John....

John in PA   April 18th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Who cares – she's hot!

Francie-SC   April 18th, 2008 11:15 am ET

Cindy definitely SHOULD release her tax returns. She's part of the family.

Let's have COMPLETE disclosure, not something hidden and unknown
about this secretive man. This issue will just sit and FESTER n the minds of the people, serving as another point of attack in November.

sozzi   April 18th, 2008 11:14 am ET

who cares...

Who is out of touch?   April 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

YEAH, because she is a multimiliatoatagagillzillanbillionmilionare!

Ha, who is out of touch.

P.S. She scares me!

Jan   April 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

I agree, it's no ones business about Cindy' s tax return.

Every citizen has the right to privacy.

dixiecharms   April 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

I really don't care what the cadidates tax returns reflect .... I do care how they will present this Country to its citizens and the rest of the world. I do care how the next president will handle health care issues, veteran issues and economic concerns. God Bless America.

Jan   April 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

why is everyone so concerned about these candidates tax returns-is it just to get mad because they are wealthy? All 3 candidates have to be wealthy to even think about running for president. Why don't we leave this issue to the IRS who actually know something about tax cheaters and go over these high-profile returns with a fine tooth comb.

Eddie   April 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

Not that proud American Cindy, who claims to be so patriotic, what is she hiding.I know Hillary and Obama released them and thier spouses tax returns.Maybe he does not want America to Know just how much of an elitist he and her are!!!

dave, michigan   April 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Not voting for Cindy, don't care what's in her bank account or what she's worth.

Obama wins PA   April 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

BTW, Hillary and McCain are not 'elite' even though they make more money that Barack.

Hide & Seek!!   April 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Well John McCain/ if you think the President of the US is going to keep his
wifes income and worth away from the voters you won't get my vote that is the way I am. I am for transparency in this election and when
You act this way it is because they have something to hide. Enough under the table dealing already.

Shawna   April 18th, 2008 11:09 am ET

The McCain camp making excuses for being less than transparent, typical politics

Lee WV   April 18th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Still not as much as the Clintons.

Grif   April 18th, 2008 11:07 am ET

She is a Business Woman??? What would he, a ( Professional Soldier), Politician, have to do with her Tax...

Ready for Change   April 18th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Look, I don't care if Mrs. McCain keeps her tax return to herself. She is not running for anything. I think for Bill and Hillary Clinton to release theirs together was very forthright, they sure could have filed separately. I don't happen to mind if people are successful.
