WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Bush will nominate Steve Preston to replace Alphonso Jackson as secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, a senior administration official said Friday.

The nomination must be voted on by the Senate.

Preston administers the Small Business Administration, a job he began in July 2006. That agency advocates on behalf of small businesses, helps advance the economy and assists in rebuilding efforts following a disaster.

Bush is going to do what he wants………remember when he cheated his way to the whitehouse the truth is if you are not earning what the elite top 6% are he really doesnt care about you or what you think…he is exteremly well connected, welathy and powerful, and is only getting richer its clear his "good" intentions are not for average americans he could care less about you………..he's a little better than you……thats how bonesmen are bred(check out skull and bones via google) if average americans want a shot at the fading "american dream" youd better vote democratic.

HUD has always been a disaster prior to the Bush administration and I'm not saying that in support of Bush, all you have to do is look back on the history of HUD. I hope Obama can clean it up or clean it out. Vote Obama.

Jerry, TX   April 18th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

In this pathetic carnival atmosphere of failure called the bush administration, nothing surprises me…………… Just another appointed loser……………………..

David   April 18th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

Jim Nussle, and then this guy? I don't think this Steve Preston will do anything.

JN   April 18th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

Kathleen…unfortunately Bush in the office until January 20th…I know..that really stinks!

I'm Bushed.   April 18th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

I agree Kathleen. Just let him stay home, give him some toys, and don't let him make any decisions until his term is over.

If he really wants to help, he can suit up and get his rear over to Iraq. The soldiers could use some help, his especially.

After Harriet, Brownie, and Mr. I Can't Recall Gonzales, we the American people don't have faith in his selections. Good luck to all the government workers at HUD, I know you'll have to work extra hard for your paycheck with whatever loser Bush appoints.

I love the first comment about Bush driving us towards recession. It may be true that his policies are not pro-US economy, but the entire raising capital-gains taxes will CRUSH our economy. Both the DEMS and REPS are responsible with the move towards NAFTA and CAFTA and other trade agreements.

If you raise capital-gains taxes, then where will our capital go? Duh, it would go to Mexico and other areas. Let's rethink the economic policies and work on REAL economic policy.

?   April 18th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

And we care, why? He is irrelevant.

America let's send him, Laura and those silly girls back home to Texas. He ruined this country, and he has the IQ of a turnip.

I hear that Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under the Clinton administration, is going to officially endorse Barack Obama later this afternoon. If true, it will be a telling endorsement to see one of the Clinton's loyal friends shine additional light on the daily absurdity of the Clinton campaign.

Hasn't Bush done enough global damage already? What is the purpose of a disaster trying to nominate anyone to address disasters? The guy will be a disaster just like Bush.

Uncle Sam   April 18th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Where were the Bush critics when the economy was doing well for the previous five years? Why do we not hear of the millions of jobs that have been created and the sustained low unemployment rate, but are bombarded by only the negative statistics? When do we ever see in the media the progress that is being made on the ground in Iraq, such as the improved infrastructure, schools, businesses, etc.? And why do we think that we have not been attacked since 9/11? The problem with demonizing someone, including our president, is that it says more about us than it does him.

Ken   April 18th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Boy, Mr. Preston will have to work quickly to destroy the American housing market completely in order to be able to receive the Medal of Freedom from Busch. But he only needs to look to some of the past recipiants from Busch for the recipe on how to be awarded for a headlong dive into failure.

Bayou Joe   April 18th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

All of you ingrates are able to blog here because G.W. Bush has the Cojones to take on the Islamic Terrorists on their land and not ours.

Our country was attacked and don't forget that. 9/11 is not just a number. It is a date of infamy that was worse than Pearl Harbor. Dec 7, 1941. At least the Japanese used their military and we were able to respond accordingly. The Jihadist hide behind women and children, murder innocent civilians and you bash our President.

There are other countries not at war and if you think that they are better.get the hell out of mine. The borders are not closed and there are plenty of planes and boats to take you wherever you want to go.

Don't have money. We can get enough Patriotic Americans to pay for your one way ticket.

Danny   April 18th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

JWB what about oil price? Please clean your house first before you leave. We don't need another guy because we don't have money to pay for him and China not going to loan your money to pay for HUD guy.

NO HOPE NO CHANGE OBAMA

Hillary or McCain 08 President.

Richard, FL   April 18th, 2008 11:34 am ET

He is just another Bush cabinet member resigning under pressure for incompetence and abusing his office. The FBI is investigating him now. He has awarded contracts based entirely on politics and has said "Why should I reward someone who doesn't like the president, so they can use funds to try to campaign against the president? Logic says they don't get the contract. That's the way I believe."

As a typical Bush appointee, he is just another reason why America should not continue this scandalous, immoral Republican adminstration with 4 more years. NO GW3 !

Mike - Texas   April 18th, 2008 11:29 am ET

If you think that Bush is the worst president ever then you would be wrong. Our terrorist loving ex president Jimmy Carter's approval rating was 5 points lower that President Bush's is right now.

Under Carter, we had 18% interest rates and run away inflation. Under Carter, we had gas shortages and gas lines.
Under Carter, we had stores running out of food because of the gas shortage.

Carter led to one of our alies ,the Shaw of Iran, to be over thrown to give us the mess that we have in Iran today.

Carter did more to mess up the country in 4 years than Bush has done in 8.

we wanh hillary, not mccain...screw him.   April 18th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Really don't think Bush was the worst President ever, But he ranks quite low for sure. Got to admit I voted for him. Seemed less of 2 evils at the time.
Politics today is Party line/Cronyism/Lobbist Controlled and paid for by corporate interest/Pork Barreling/Earmarks/Pick and choose the laws on the books to enforce?/Bickering/In office to be served rather than to serve/Special Interest Pandering/Majority not represented/

You get the idea/ Time for change.

Mike   April 18th, 2008 10:57 am ET

Easy, Susan. You're gonna blow out an artery!

Doug R.   April 18th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Our Supreme Court appointed president thinks he has redeemed himself because he met with the Pope.
This entire administration is infested with corrupt and incompetent hacks who are self servicing and oblivious to the issues the American public is facing.

Independant-Voter   April 18th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Bush did buckle under the tough job he had at hand/Illegal imigrant situation ran amuck during his watch. NAFTA and the like exported our jobs!!??
Even our defense system is being exported out of country as we speak/

Boarder control is being attacked by the democrats at this time??
The give envoirmental issues and laws broken there as to not going forward with our boarder control fence. put up the fence. It's a no- brainer that If we enforced the laws already on the books, that Illegal Aliens would not be a problem. Lots of spinles people in congress and bush is among them.

It is time for change and Yes I am sorry I voted for Bush/Not near the man I thought him to be.
It's Obama for me in the next go around as Change has got me very excited about the future.

What I find more appalling–and most annoying–than Bush's presidency (an oxymoron) is the fact WE have let him remain in office.

Why have WE allowed him to stay in office? Take a vacation, BUsh, til Jan 2009.

Oh, by the way, Bush and his entourage wear flag pins. How's that workin' for us? Geez.

I don't envy Mr. Preston - he has his work cut out for him.

Joe, Chicago: this is not representative of just the Republicans…politicians, presidents, will always appoint people close to them regardless of their qualifications for the job at hand (look at B. Clinton appointing CIA directors with no qualifications in intelligence and not wanting the job)…Hillary and Obama would be no different…

Look at all the Bush-hate going on here…. typical for ANY article that even mentions the word "Bush". Yet the article really has little to do with the president, so why not take a cheap shot?

By the way Chris Banner, I've a question for you…. is Bush supposed to just come right out and say "Folks, we are now in a recession?" Real smart!

Alex H   April 18th, 2008 10:05 am ET

Joe, Chicago - Yeah definitely. And while everyone is at it, look at other examples of cronyism in the Clinton White House before you cast your vote this year and think about it.

RealityKing   April 18th, 2008 10:04 am ET

And these are the clowns that will be "rescueing" the housing market with BILLIONS of our tax dollars…..(eyes rolling)!!

Joe, Chicago   April 18th, 2008 9:59 am ET

The negligent media is too busy arguing about whether Obama is wearing a lapel pin to focus on this!!
Alphonso Jackson was forced to resign. Bush's appointment of his Dallas Neighbor represents cronyism and corruption at it's worst. Jackson is responsible for the indifference and neglect of HUD, which has worsened our housing problems. Please do yourself a service and look into this for real and know what has been really happening in this country!!!

That is a terrible metaphor. This administration isn't sinking. It's soaring!

He's asking someone to take a ride on the Bushindenburg!

Bush is the worst president of the U.S.A ever…. Let me explain: Driving us towards a recession and ignoring it at the same time is completely out of touch…But does he really care about average americans who suffer on a daily basis to get their mortgage paid up? I think NOT
When he sits down in his Texas ranch counting millions and millions, why would he care less ?
And let's not even talk about the Iraq war, …. Bush step down please
