Romney takes swipes at 'elitist' Obama

Romney had some sharp words for Obama.
Romney had some sharp words for Obama.

(CNN) - In a sign he's comfortable playing the attack dog for John McCain's presidential campaign, Mitt Romney issued stinging criticisms of Barack Obama Friday, calling the Illinois senator a "quintessential politician."

"He, in the debate, made a number of promises that he cannot possibly deliver - populist approaches that sound good to the public but that are counter to the growth and strength of our economy and the well-being of our nation," Romney, who abandoned his own presidential bid in February, told the National Journal.

In an apparent reference to Obama's recent comments calling some small town Americans "bitter," Romney also said the Democratic presidential candidate has "subscribed fully to the kind of elitist view of America that has long characterized those of the most liberal persuasion in our country."

"So I think what's happening is that people are getting a better sense about Barack Obama," Romney continued. "They didn't know who he was… but now we're getting a better view of Barack Obama as the - not just the liberal, but the political liberal that he is."

Romney was a fierce critic of John McCain when the two were primary rivals, though he has since repeatedly praised McCain and indicated his willingness to serve as the Arizona senator's running mate.

Obama is starting to have a nervous breakdown! He gave Hillary the finger earlier and Hillary ate him for lunch in the debate.

He will soon be doing the same to Obama; we only need to wait and see what Obama will do by God's Grace; l know they are all afraid of Obama....they can't beat him unlike Hillary that has sold herslf to them...GOP

I AM TIRED OF HEARING THE HATE AND ANGER SPEW COMING FROM THE OBAMA SUPPORTERS. THEY ARE SOUNDING LIKE THE IRRATIONAL CHILD-LIKE RANTS THAT WAS LIKE THE THE BUSH SUPPORTERS OF 2004. If his SUPPORTERS are not a turn off to Obama, I don't know what else is!!!

I wish the Republicans would look up the word "liberal" in the dictionary. They've misused it for far too long. Don't they know half of their own policies are liberal policies? Their demands for "small government?" LIBERAL!

You got to love it. Obama cannot fullfill the promises he makes. He already swift-boated Hillarys' health-care plan and his own in the process. Did everybody forget that dirty attack of Mr. Clean? You Obama-bots are blinded by the light you think he emits. His of his endorsers, I'm sure glad Hillary does not have. The latest is Hamas. All Obama needs now is Muqtada al-Sadr, and Al Qaeda. He already has Louis Farracahn, the Black Panthers and of course that Anti-American Rev. Wright, and his whole racist church...That will be just about all the Muslim Terrorist there are, maybe that President from Iran, what's his name.

What a joke! Mitt is the elitist who has no clue that many Americans are VERY BITTER that the Bush administration has ignored the will of the American people for close to 8 years. A number of folks currently in Washington might want to update their resumes.

    Mitt,

No matter what you say it is not going to increase your chances for becoming McCain's VP. You are such a wishy-washy flip-flopping person. One second you are bashing someone and the next second you are sucking up to the same person you were bashing. You are an opportunist and you are just looking out for your own self interests. Personally, I hope John McCain does choose you as his VP, because that would definitely put Barack Obama in the white house.

    Obama/Edwards 2008!

Oh I know Romney didn't just try to get into this. We won't start on the Mormans, but then they think being black is a curse.

Also America we need everyone to start researching the Peter Paul vs Clintons and Rendell that happened in Calfornia. AMERICA WAKE UP NOW! Just google Peter Paul. Why are they keeping this quiet. MMMMM!

    Mike from Texas,

It's not just you. But, it seems as if Lou Dobbs doesn't like any of the candidates. However, he keeps talking about the fact that we need to stick to the important issues that matter to the American people...yet, he is constantly bringing up stupid topics to discuss on his show. I don't understand.

In all fairness, most of us want to see Obama win (myself included) , but it's about time someone starts asking the hard questions.

How does Obama intent to, NOT only keep taxes the same, but lower them knowing the economic crisis the US is facing?

The only viable solutions I can see are pulling out of Iraq quickly and use the money towards your economy. The other would be to borrow more money from countries like China.

This is in no way criticizingObama, but I would like a game plan and I don't even live in the US. Wouldn't you?

    OBAMA, 08
