Romney takes swipes at 'elitist' Obama

Romney had some sharp words for Obama.

Romney had some sharp words for Obama.

(CNN) - In a sign he's comfortable playing the attack dog for John McCain's presidential campaign, Mitt Romney issued stinging criticisms of Barack Obama Friday, calling the Illinois senator a "quintessential politician."

"He, in the debate, made a number of promises that he cannot possibly deliver - populist approaches that sound good to the public but that are counter to the growth and strength of our economy and the well-being of our nation," Romney, who abandoned his own presidential bid in February, told the National Journal.

In an apparent reference to Obama's recent comments calling some small town Americans "bitter," Romney also said the Democratic presidential candidate has "subscribed fully to the kind of elitist view of America that has long characterized those of the most liberal persuasion in our country."

"So I think what's happening is that people are getting a better sense about Barack Obama," Romney continued. "They didn't know who he was… but now we're getting a better view of Barack Obama as the - not just the liberal, but the political liberal that he is."

Romney was a fierce critic of John McCain when the two were primary rivals, though he has since repeatedly praised McCain and indicated his willingness to serve as the Arizona senator's running mate.

How could someone that chickened out even before the game really start now criticising someone that has won against a Clinton political establishment that has spanned the last 16years!!! I think I prefer to hear from Huckabey than from a LOSER and a FLIP-FLOPPER like Romney.

I know he is an opportunist who is doing everything to impress Old Pa McCain.

    They just don't get it.

The more they attack Obama, the more solidly we stand behind him.

Thinking voters are sick of politics as usual.

    Obama/Richardson or Obama/Edwards

Okay Mr 30 million dollar man. I am so tired of all this name calling from everyone. What happened with the issues at hand. Everyone needs to grow up and get back to the basics of campaigning and gaining votes. This is silly politics week for sure.

You couldn't even beat Huckabee, so you should probably shut up right about now. Go help McCain and Cindy with their tax evasion problems.

These people Hillary, McCain, Bush, Romney, and Chaney are all on the same accord; they are all part of what Washington problems are and should be thrown out of public office. These politicians are the apititmy of American politics and the reason why we are in the predicament that we are in.

Obama 08!!! At lease he a fresh start.

Nice attack Romney. About a week too slow though, did it take your writers all week to come up with that?

While choking on McCain's nu*s hopefully you can spew out a few more good ones. Time to hitch a ride back home to your wives.

It's amazing the kind of negativity some of you people have towards rich people, just goes to show why you support obama's socailist agenda. if you can't make the money yourself have the government hand it over for you!

Neither Clinton or Obama can do anything without raising taxes, nor can John McCain unless he wants to continue borrowing from the Chinese and the Saudis. Obama has called for reducing taxes on income below $75,000, restoring taxes on the rich. He is the only one who is honest in that regard, another reason for supporting him.

    Is this guy for real?
The richest guy in the presidential campaign calling Obama an elitist?

Somebody smack him upside his head please and put some sense into him (a figure of speech I don't mean it for real).

There was this young man in my village – he's from a poor family. He has always been a good student. After he finished University, he came back to the village to visit his childhood friends – he became what could be termed as Elitist. He talked down to his childhood friends, who still are struggingly working at low paying wages. You don't have to rich to be an elitist and you don't have to be White to be a racist.

It’s soooo obvious that the Republicans are starting to throw everything they've got at Obama because they DON’T want run against him in the general election! They are praying to God that Hillary wins so that THEY can win! Not rocket science!

Honestly, we're supposed to believe this coming from a multi millionaire who basically bank rolled his entire failing run at the presidency? This has to be a joke right? Romney was bourne with a silver spoon up his arse. He didn't grow up with a single mom working hard to make ends meet.
