There really is not terribly much to distinguish Obama's and Clinton's health plans. Clinton's 16 page plan does not describe obtaining health insurance as required, obligatory, or mandatory; obtaining insurance is an individual "responsibility". Once her plan is in place, employers who currently provide insurance are "expected" to continue to do so. Does "expected" translate to "required"? One can read-in whatever one wants. It is thoroughly ambiguous.

There is little in Obama's 15 page plan to distinguish it from Clinton's. I tend to agree with him, however, on the point that we cannot rely on the government to decide what we can and cannot afford. (The Department of Education, for example, recently advised us that our family could afford $24K per year towards our son's education. Anyone who can find that amount in our budget will be nominated for the Nobel prize in Economics.)

A few months ago David Himmelstein and Steffie Woolhandler had an op-ed in the NY Times in which they described the health plans of the major Democratic candidates as warmed-over versions of a 1971 Richard Nixon plan that has failed everywhere it has been tried. Its a depressingly good read.

But Hillary Clinton health care would offer folks coverage from Emergency type coverage like if someone is diagnosed with cancer or has a heartattack they would be covered by a plan.
Someone else might want coverage that covers plastic surgery and laski.

Hillary taking the 'high ground' on health care has always been humorous to me. A reasonable argument can be made that she – -more than any other political figure around - is responsible for the health care mess we've sunked into over the last 15 years. She had an opportunity in 1993-94 to help lead real change on that front, and instead completely botched it. She blamed her failures on the insurance industry's attack ads, but in fact she alienated the Democratic leadership in Congress and submitted a plan that was complete fantasy. She didn't listen to her protege - Moynhihan - and her offering got shot down for the arrogant, devoid-of-reality piece of crap that it was.

I wish Obama would bring this up more - if this is part of the 'experience' she's touting, I don't want to go through that all over again!!!

I'm not sure why people are saying she's forcing. If you watch her talk about the health care plan, she says it would be a responsibility like buying car insurance. In no way is that forcing because forcing you would be, in an extreme case holding a gun to your head and making you buy it. In a less extreme case it would be having to be pay fines or something for not buying it. That's my take on "forcing" so I don't see how her policy would be just that.

Hmmm....I am always wondering – when health care is mandated where do the cost controls come in? We should be asking what industry lobby is donating to the Clinton campaign especially health insurance carriers of which the government, individuals, corporate America, etc will be paying for...I feel it is more attractive to make health care "affordable" for all through cost reductions as proposed by Obama.
