Cindy McCain appeared on The View Monday.

(CNN)— Cindy McCain on Monday beat back accusations her husband is known to have a bad temper, saying it’s often mistaken for his passion for the issues.

“He is passionate about the future of this country,” Mrs. McCain, wife of presumptive Republican Presidential nominee John McCain , said while serving as a co-host on ABC’s “The View.” “Some people mistake that for temper.” Mrs. McCain also insisted the issue is one of the biggest misconceptions people have of her husband.

The Arizona senator defended the claims again Sunday after The Washington Post devoted a portion of its front page to a lengthy investigation into McCain’s past.

Earlier this month McCain told CNN’s Dana Bash voters should expect him to get angry sometimes.

"When I see corruption in Washington, when I see wasting needlessly of their tax dollars, when I see people behaving badly—they expect me to get angry, and I will get angry," he said. "Because I won’t stand for corruption, and I won’t stand for waste of their tax dollars and I will demand that people serve their country first and the special interests second."

Speaking on Monday, Cindy McCain also said while she is reserved about her place in politics, she is excited about having being part of “American history.”

His temper is a sign that he cares. A bad thing? Not at all. I'd rather see a screamer in the White House than an apathist. The screamer cares about the future of a great nation, the apathist enjoys the view from on top of it.

If you expected to see "Presidential Contender '08″ down here, it's a bad sign.

Chris, Silicon Valley, CA, USA   April 21st, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Technically, this is bad. "He has no temper" literally means he gets angry easily. People confuse this because we often say, "He has a bad temper." "bad" = "lacking" or "fragile".

Temperament is a good thing.

J Williamson   April 21st, 2008 8:06 pm ET

What is she supposed to say? "John gets so mad at times that his head does a 360 just like Linda Blair's did in the Exorcist!" I think you'd get a less-biased view by talking to people McCain's known through work (and otherwise) over the years. Many of these people have said that this man has a volcanic temper. Is it all true? Probably not, but there is certainly something to it.

I will be so glad when this whole thing is over. Face it. Name calling, hateful remarks (of which I am guilty a time or two), becoming slathering pit bulls because you can remain anonymous is not going to change anyones mind on a candidate. We made our choices a long time ago. The only decision left is simple. 4 more years of what we have had for the last 10 or a new start.
Regarding the experience argument, the founders of this country, the pilgrims came here to escape religious oppression. They were not experienced but they did have hope. If not for them we wouldn't have the freedom we do. Unfortunately, we have once again become religiously oppressed to a certain degree. If they, like some of you, had been afraid of change or the unknown and unwilling to risk it all for freedom there would be no America. Cindy McCain, like Hillary and other women who have been "abused" either verbally or physically or psychologically will always defend their abusers.

Frankly, personality wise, the man is one of the most unpleasant people I've ever seen run for president in my 62 years. He's on a par with Richard Nixon.

THIS SHOWS SEVERAL FACTS:

1) The DEM's know that due to the self-destructive primaries they have squandered their chances in November therefore are desperate
and do not hesitate to insult both McCain and worse, his wife

2) The absurd attacks regarding tax returns (where she did the same as the millionaire wife of KERRY) can best by commented that if someone have inherited a fortune of hundreds millions of dollars,
independent of politics, there is no reason on earth to disclose her
tax returns.
Very different is the case of the CLINTONS, professional politician,
which made $ 100 millions after leaving the presidency mainly by
outrageous and abnormal payments for speeches

3) It is very suspicious that each time an issue regarding McCAIN
is discussed, nearly all the posts are negative, the positives being DELETED BY CNN (let see what will happen to this one)

Of course, I am keeping a file of all my rejected comments and they
will appear in the national press in due time, with the needed related info.

susan, pa.   April 21st, 2008 6:06 pm ET

How about the "joke" he told about a young girl named Chelsea Clinton: "You know why Chelsea is so ugly? Her father is Janet Reno." It was so mean the newspapers at the time didn't report it. (Note the anti-gay element to that "joke," as well. Janet Reno is a lesbian. HA. HA. HA.). It is well documented that he has sworn at and almost come to blows with fellow Senators. And–of course–in front of reporters he called his wife the "c' word. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

And I haven't even gotten to the role this "honorable" man played in the savings and loan fiasco of the 1980's.

Finally, remember when he called that kid "you little jerk?" Remember "Bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran?"

This man has a mean streak that makes him wildly unqualified for the presidency.

Obama 08

I just don't get it   April 21st, 2008 5:47 pm ET

I'm an Obama supporter, and I also like Hillary Clinton. Clinton supporters have been saying this whole campaign should be about issues, yet if their candidate doesn't win, they'll vote for McCain out of spite and against their values and issue stances? That's hypocritical. If you say Obama can't win, that's only because you continue to be like this. I think both candidates are far greater than McCain.

Obviously your vote is to do with what you will, but simply saying you'll vote for McCain if Clinton loses, leaving no reasoning, leaves you open to being seen as spite voting. Please, no matter who it is, let's unite so we can actually get things done.

You can't support health-care reform and vote for John McCain.

You can't truly believe in a green environment and vote for John McCain.

You can't believe this war should be ended and vote for John McCain.

You can't think that tax cuts to the richest of the rich are what caused the economic crisis we're in and still vote for John McCain.

Hillary supporters are making the case for her divisive campaign by saying they would rather go against their campaign theme (issue oriented) and vote for someone who is polar opposite.

I'm sorry, but Clinton supporters who have the arrogance to call Obama supporters hypocrites without seeing this obvious blotch in their logic astound me.

Reading the responses by the readers over the past few days, I see an OVERWHELMING support for Obama. I, too, support Obama and have dug into my wallet 3 times to prove it. It seems what America is saying is "we're not gonna take it anymore!" We deserve a new option, and that option has made itself available through Obama.

We don't expect perfection or miracles, we expect to have a say in how our government works. We expect accountability. We expect our Senators, Representatives, and even our President to be looking out for AMERICA FIRST, everyone else second.

Americans are notorious for their generosity the world over, but with the country in its current state of disgrace, we can barely feed & house ourselves. We will lose our reputation as a generous donor because of the corruption of government over the past 20 years.

So now we shout CHANGE. Now we demand change.

Most these bloggers think they have all the right to insult, to call names, to ridicule, to trash those they do not like.
It is such a trash to read. It is unbelievable how much hate is expressed here.
And some do not make any sense.
Hate, so much hate. Mostly it is from Obama loving bloggers: they fly down on new blog like a swarms of wasps stinging mercilessly, without any scruples, dissecting every single word and move. It is disgrace to humanity, to other people's right to have their own opinions, ideas, lives. It is almost evil.
It is shocking to get to know how people can think and behave.
I went to these blogs out of curiosity, got upset on many of them, and have enough of this "wonderful" experience.

I have many friends who were POWs with McCain. They never mounted an escape either. They explained the enormous difficulties involved and the problems they would face even if they could get outside the walls. Additionally all attempts had to be OK'd by the senior POW officer. There was group punishment if anyone was caught.

Several attempt swere partlysuccessful, Iie, some survived until recaptured and some were killed outright. (Hanoi area prisoners). Several POWS in SVN did escape in completely different circumstances.

To refuse release from captivity at the hands of sadists until others have been freed, to do this in the heart of enemy territory, while injured and sick in body and mind, requires attributes of character only a handful of people could probably understand. It speaks to his unwillingness to place others at risk without a willingness to endure that risk and all of its pain himself. If you are honest, you know that is NOT a Bush clone. To bail out of one destroyed plane and fly the next is expected of any warrior. To bail out of two and fly the next is remarkable. To bail ouf of five? And CONTINUE TO FLY INTO ENEMY FIRE? Now there is a fitting use of anger! If you are honest, you know we need more of it. Not running from non-existent sniper fire or cowardly hiding beneath a pew while someone attacks America.

The types of people who post this craxy anti-McCain stuff make me want to take a second look at Obama to determine if these nuts and he have something in common.

Thanks to them, Nader is starting to look better all the time.

You Obama supporter think that you will be able to name call others for Obama's to get into the White House. Name calling is only going to drive people away from voting for Obama especially Hillary supporters.

Just shows again what BIG LIARS politicians and their spouses are!! McCain has displayed his quick and vicious temper again and again in the presence of his senate colleagues, and has even acknowledgted it. This is all on record and on tape, so no use denying it. Now his wife says that he does not have a temper, regardless of sound evidence? Do we need liars like this in the WH??

Walt, Belton,TX   April 21st, 2008 5:04 pm ET

I hope he does have a temper. We don't need to kiss rear ends to make policy and suck up to our enemies to make peace. A bit of a temper lends authority to one's subtle hints of persuasion. Don't need a drunk Hillary or Obama's wife answering the phone, just a solid veteran who knows right from wrong and how to effectively exert and apply power.

The people that are bashing McCain as a POW. And calling him a coward for not trying to escape, are ignorant !!. Have you even read the story of John McCain when he was a POW. If not, you might want to get educated. I'm not voting for McCain, but I will not bash his service to this country. You have no idea what this man endured during those years. He almost died several times. I don't care if you like him or not. This was a man that served our country for our freedoms and to call him a coward is just plain ignorant. Go and read up. And get your facts straight.

Her tax return is none of our business.
I admire her courage in dealing with real issues. I admire her courage to go public with her addiction.

I don’t know why some people have to be disrespectful, what does that say about our society?
What kind teaching do we offer our children that as adults they are often so disrespectful. Why?

dEMABRAT   April 21st, 2008 4:56 pm ET

I'll take Cindy McCain's modest, behind-the-scenes approach to Michelle Obama's imbecility any day of the week.

An ivy-leaguer who mangles the English language, and who doesn't have the smarts to keep her yap shut can only be considered a distraction.

However, if she wishes to appear on stage with Mrs. Heinz-Kerry as much as she can, I'll gladly cheer her on.

Two selfless martyrs.

Bruce   April 21st, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Is he saying that if someone is serving his country, then he can also serve special interests? Like Halliburton overcharging for food and fuel supplied to troops, like Bechtel charging Iraqi's twice as much for water as they previously paid, like Lockheed-Martin getting billions for untested missile defense systems. Does he think that missing cash and weapons in Iraq don't qualify as wasteful spending? Or does the term only apply to domestic spending?

Peter in Oregon   April 21st, 2008 4:51 pm ET

McCain was shot down during Vietnam. He flew into the heart of the battle and missiles were flying everywhere at him.

McCain lost another plane aboard a carrier when another plane's rocket went off and hit his plane.

This is a disgrace the way McCain is being smeared. An absolute disgrace and real americans need to stand up.

Liberals want to howl about McCain not knowing anything about the economy….

Do we want someone who has NEVER received an earmark and rages against wasteful spending??

Or do we want economic geniuses like Obama or Clinton who think the way to fix an ailing economy is by adding $100 Billion in new social spending through raising taxes????

McCain has mellowed over the years. He has become an elder statesman in the senate. This is old news that is in the past.

Cindy McCain is an spoiled rich woman who knows nothing about the world. She lies, cheats,.. and yes even steals pills.

oh and she also steals recipies from rachel ray… pathetic!

Brian from Granada Hills   April 21st, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I like McCain. He is intelligent, patriotic, knows enough about the economy to not raise taxes and close our borders like the democrats would. If he had a temper that would be fine too. We can't expect the dreamy world of Obama where everybody holds hands and sings Kumbayah is anything like the real world. I want to elect a real world patriotic President, not a contestant for American Idol, who may have good speech writing skills, but is rather weak when it comes to solutions to real problems in a serious time of our history.

McCain 08

Jason   April 21st, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Bill Clinton has an enormous temper.

How many times has bill Clinton had a temper this campaign. How many times has McCain.

Bill Clinton has a far worse temper than McCain. Remember the interview Clinton did with Peter Jennings and Chris Wallace and the lady anchor in europe.

Bill Clinton was president for 8 years.

Hillary threw a lamp at Bill. What about her temper.

He chose to stay with his fellow POW's.

Jason   April 21st, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Cindy McCain raised two boys who are in the military. One just came back from Iraq the other is in the navy academy.

You leftist libs love to smear McCain. You love telling lies about McCain. He never called his wife that. That was recylceled lies from a dem operative. He recyled old lies from 2000 campaign. Notice how they were anonymous sources.

You dems are using Karl Rove smear tactics against McCain.

Thall999   April 21st, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Sam, Menlo Park, you make a good point! I have been saying all along that why would we elect the guy that got caught and told on everyone to be our LEADER?

When we were kids, the guy that got caught and told on everydody was never selected or expected to LEAD us again.

Both Obama and Hillary have stellar achievements in college and etc. John is known for being caught, a womanizer and a rebellious underachiever while in the military. I respect his service to this counry but that does not equate to being our LEADER!

As with growing up, you never let the dumb popular kid lead you around unless you are even dumber!

Gaby   April 21st, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Jack,

From what I have seen and read that was reported on the news about McCains' temper, I beg to differ. Cindy can tell me another story. Let's start with the truth about her family recipes, she must think the public is stuck on "Stupid." Here we go again, another one that will say and do anything to win.

It is bothersome to see the lack of respect for an American hero on the part of the Obama supporters. They should be ashamed of their lack of understanding and their ignorance of history.

McCain has a lifetime of service and experience, Clinton has a lifetime of service and experience. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.

Anthony-Minneapolis,MN   April 21st, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Really, no temper, hmmm. Cinnnnnndddddy! Stop BS'ng us. The people who worked with John on Capitol Hill disagree with you and say so repeatedly. He may not exhibit that anger towards you but in Congress he does. Oops does this mean the 2 faces of McCain are showing now????

You Sir must be an Obama supporter! I love the change and hope Obama's supporters have NONE… You Obama supporters hate Hillary and McCane and thats why he wont win the general election because of the hate Obama and his supporters bring to the table. Cindy, McCane, Hillary, Bill and Obama are all the same, they all have more money then most Americans and want power

Right Winger   April 21st, 2008 4:40 pm ET

So what if McCain has a temper. His heart is with my country and I will back him all the way to the Whitehouse in November.

Barak don't let the door hit you in the derrier as you exit in Denver.

Hillary will prevail and then lose to John McCain. All the haters of America will not show up in November if their African Idol is not the nominee.

Jason   April 21st, 2008 4:40 pm ET

For your part in the lie U.S. soldiers continue to commit suicides bidding farewell to their patriotism.

US Soldiers 4000 + US Soldiers dead, 35,000 injuried, IRAQ's Civilians 120,000 civilian dead.

Thall999   April 21st, 2008 4:38 pm ET

The Mannequin does speaketh the "TRUTH" sort of!

John McCain doesn't get mad much because because of his temper. It all DEPENDS! If any of you had to walk around with #3 (yes 2+1) on you for most of the day until changing time you would be irritiable too.

John may NOT believe in ear marks but it's Cindy that has to put up with those SKID marks! lol

John isn't remotely the person he was in 2004. The 2008 version has really lost it. While appearing on the " Wheel of Fortune", McCain asked Pat Sajek if he could have a BOWEL! Vanna turned WHITE! lol

May   April 21st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Not sleeping at the switch   April 21st, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Sam, Menlo Park April 21st, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Of COURSE he doesn't have a temper. People who have tempers would have tried to break out of a POW prison if they were held there for any length of time.

McCain didn't.

The #1 duty of a captured soldier is to ESCAPE.

McCain never even tried. He valued his own butt too much to try. He was just too much of a coward.

Sam thank you for saying this. I am a Combat vet and you are right. Many Brave men died doing their duty to escape and cause as much confusion and problems for the enemy as possible. I have felt this for some time about him. He was there for YEARS with NO recorded attempt to escape. It make me think he is very weak and able to be used. BUT try to say it and he will wrap himself in a flag and yell anti American!

Before all you get all excited about what I just said google S.E.A.R. training We ALL went through it and it was OUR DUTY!!!

I've heard and read nothing but the contrary. He has a temper and hollars and swears often. He is also a liar.
He should be questioned in detail about his involvment with the Keating Five (which cost the US taxpayers millions of dollars), his adultery and extramaritial affairs, his medical records (which he refuses to release) and his denounciation of the United States and the U.S. government/ administration during VietNam, among many other things.
No Country For Old Men- great grandpa McCain.

aliou   April 21st, 2008 4:35 pm ET

When will the view offer such opportunity to Michele Obama for fairness sake?

ABG   April 21st, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I think if John McCain could control his emotions, he would not be emphasizing we will see him get angry.

Anger does not help the mind be focused and clear when quick decisions need to be made.

Also, venting anger is not a good role model for kids to see in a Presidential candidate.

Senator Mc Cain, please be more proactive, then reactive!

Janice   April 21st, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Get used to it folks. he's your next president! Who in their right mind would vote for a white hater like Obama and now that Hilliary has turned into the Clinton lier machine, she doesn't stand a snow ball in hell chance. And that is too bad, she would have made a good president.

Hillary has done more to advance the candidacy of McCain than any republican ever could. She has declared him a better Commander in Chief than Obama (who will beat her in the primaries), and she has successfully ebbed the wave of "Obamamania," a feat which McCain does not possess the charisma nor personal magnetism, nor connection with his fellow republicans to have been able to accomplish. In her selfish, "me first and forget everyone else" campaign she will both lose the race to become the democratic front runner, and has jeopardized her party's chances to win. Way to go Hillary, way to go!!!

aliou   April 21st, 2008 4:34 pm ET

That 's probably why he cheated on his first wife with Cindy? There goes the family value hypocrits

Bob   April 21st, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Cindy's statement is ludicrously untrue. McCain's temper is legendary. He punched Congressman Rick Renzi in 2006 in front of multiple witnesses. His temper simply can't be dismissed as either nonexistent or as something from 20 years ago.

Yeah and you'll angrily send us to war, just because you're angry! GOING TO WAR ISN'T ALWAYS THE ANSWER…. And blind anger isn't a good thing no matter how you try to spin it! When someone has an anger problem it meens that they DO NOT THINK RATIONALLY, they just take action and think later—- NOT WHAT I WANT TO SEE IN A PRESIDENT!

Cindy stop lying for that Man, you know he yelled at you, when you said his hair was thinning. You don't have to lie to voters, because we the voters will not let you and your lying husband into the white house, so take your millions and go and enjoy retirement
