PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) — Just a little nugget from Clinton headquarters in Philadelphia: The Uniformed Division of the Secret Service is confiscating all food and drink as members of the media file in to cover Hillary Clinton's election night party. Journalists unwilling to part with their liquid are standing next to the magnetometers drinking their coffee, water or soda. A young woman in a tank top and flip-flops was forced to part with a granola bar she was saving for dinner. Clinton’s staff made valiant efforts to try and help reporters out, but to no avail.

however, the numbers are not opposite.

Maggie   April 22nd, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Hey Rob, if the numbers were opposite, Obama would have had the grace to bow out a long time ago, plus the press would have been all over him to quit. How come Hillary hasn't been given the same consideration? Oh that's right, her name is CLINTON. She'd be toast by now if it wasn't. Get real.

Too Much   April 22nd, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Normally, I don't post to the blogs, I just read them. But this one is too funny!!! Let me guess, the food was left over after the debacle, I mean debate the other night!!!

No matter which Dem gets the nomination, let us not forget to keep McCain out of the Whitehouse!!!

Rob   April 22nd, 2008 8:23 pm ET

Why should Hillary bow out and just hand it to Obama after fighting so hard. It is not over til it's over!!!!
If the numbers were opposite, I am very doubtful that Obama would be willing to just fork it over either.
The media as a whole has not been fair with Hillary the whole time. They seem to have been very biased during this whole event.
Both of these people are no doubt brilliant, but I think Hillary can deliver when all is said and done. I am hoping people are not really thinking ANYTHING would be better than what we have had. They better be really scrutinizing and listening to everything before they cast that vote! I have a Golden Retriever that is more intelligent then Bush, but believe it or not, there is almost always someone worse.

Tom Too   April 22nd, 2008 8:21 pm ET

When did the Secret Service get the exclusive food and drink concession at Clinton headquarters ? Oh well, if it helps defer the cost of protecting the candidates and prevents just 1 food fight it'll be worth it.

MC   April 22nd, 2008 8:15 pm ET

this is the most ridiculous story you have written. congrats on the new low

Jason   April 22nd, 2008 8:01 pm ET

I think you only posted half of the story. We might INFER its for security reasons, but one might think you'd mention if there was a specific threat to Clinton by means of food. And what exactly is a magnetometer?
But hey, you posted it real fast and thats what counts. Call me old fashioned, but I think people would prefer whole story to the fast but incomplete one.

Dan   April 22nd, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Must be worried about a food fight once the polls close.

Brian in Charlotte   April 22nd, 2008 7:50 pm ET

LOL @ confiscategate08! hahaha ha ha hahaha breathing breathing hahaha woo hoo

Rachel   April 22nd, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Just stick the food under a heat lamp and warm it back up. Even though it will leave a bad taste in your mouth, it's at least edible.

Kind of metaphoric for the Clinton campaign in and of itself.

Obama '08

Soviets had that "change" in 1984...   April 22nd, 2008 7:40 pm ET

What happend to them later? Obama will destroy US… Wright!

Go Indiana   April 22nd, 2008 7:38 pm ET

No money - no food. LOL

Henry Miller, Cary, NC   April 22nd, 2008 7:38 pm ET

No doubt some statistician will conclude that 100% of young women wearing tank tops (whatever they are) and flip-flops prefer granola bars over coffee, water, or soda.

Ian   April 22nd, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Probably because they were all getting drunk.

JT   April 22nd, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Are they afraid someone will start a food fight later when Obama wins? (smile) Go Obama!

Ratgurl   April 22nd, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Maybe they're confiscating it so they can serve it later. A lot cheaper than catering!

Chuck in Oregon   April 22nd, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Say what. People that have worked very hard all day cant eat? What is they afraid of, that people will throw food and beverages at Sen Clinton. Oh I get it a McNugget would be considered a weapon?
More silly politics (laughing)

Erin   April 22nd, 2008 7:32 pm ET

Let me guess…. they're charging all journalists a fee for food & drinks so they can pay off their campaign debts. Did I win?

LifeLongDemocrat   April 22nd, 2008 7:31 pm ET

They was paid for. Her campaign is broke

ha   April 22nd, 2008 7:30 pm ET

It's a joke guys. You are all so huffy and puffy and ready to blow someone's house down. Have a drink, relax, and let CNN do what it wants with its webspace.

ron   April 22nd, 2008 7:30 pm ET

She is POISION.

Ladyleo   April 22nd, 2008 7:30 pm ET

Wow I think I might change my vote to Hillary because of this story. How impressive of the Clinton campaign.

Allen   April 22nd, 2008 7:29 pm ET

Who cares really?

Anonymous   April 22nd, 2008 7:28 pm ET

GO BUSH

Carrie Pa   April 22nd, 2008 7:28 pm ET

Come on CNN, you can do better then this!

Lenoirlady   April 22nd, 2008 7:28 pm ET

This is one of those - WHAAAAA???? If you don't want to share your food and bev. hide it idiots!

Susie   April 22nd, 2008 7:27 pm ET

First, a campaign office in Indiana was set on fire; then there was a threat against Bill Clinton; now this. Obama inspires hate and animosity. Don't want to jump to any conclusions about what has happened now.

Tom   April 22nd, 2008 7:26 pm ET

The secret service must have thought it was BYOB……and food…….that's HILLARYous!!!

maxine   April 22nd, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Charge it to Hillary's campaign. Oh wait they can't pay for it, but you can all donate to her campaign. CNN has a paid for ad for us to donate to help Hillary out of debt.

Jodi-in-PA   April 22nd, 2008 7:25 pm ET

WHAT is this about? WHERE is the rest of this story. It makes no sense at all!!!

xtina   April 22nd, 2008 7:23 pm ET

what a hardship for the reporters :p

Matt   April 22nd, 2008 7:22 pm ET

I too thought they were "repossessing" the catered snacks!!!Pay your bills BILLARY!!!

jd24   April 22nd, 2008 7:21 pm ET

Are they preparing for a riot after her loss tonight? HAAHAHAHAHAHA!

Give them drinks and eats, what's the problem. Is the campaign site selling drinks/eats? Maybe jacked up prices to go toward HRC.

Man, I hope I get to see a withdrawal speech from her and Bill tonight, that would just make my month.

drew, chicago il   April 22nd, 2008 7:21 pm ET

Snacks… leading the cholesterol charge since 1962…

v   April 22nd, 2008 7:20 pm ET

Guys this is still a blog, not all blogs have to be headline news. For that you go to the headlines people. I for one find this odd and humorous … confiscategate08 !

Jack in ND   April 22nd, 2008 7:18 pm ET

News of the offbeat here.

But isn't that pretty much what the whole Clinton campaign boils down down to at this point?

Ken Austin, TX   April 22nd, 2008 7:17 pm ET

LOL @ The Dude's comment.

Dreamer   April 22nd, 2008 7:16 pm ET

Just more of the Circus surrounding the Clintons.

GO Obama! 08

Lisa   April 22nd, 2008 7:14 pm ET

How can her campaign headquarters afford food and drinks when they are 10 million in debt?

DAN   April 22nd, 2008 7:14 pm ET

Why? Will cnn give us more info on the reason for these actions.

Bill   April 22nd, 2008 7:14 pm ET

As with much of journalism today, you're missing one of the 5W's: why. Why is the secret service confiscating food and drinks? That's a pretty basic question, and if you answer it, you might not have a story.

Darth Vadik, CA   April 22nd, 2008 7:14 pm ET

You can repo back the food if Hillary's campaign cant pay for it?

anniew   April 22nd, 2008 7:14 pm ET

HRC should demonstrate some consideration, if she has any, for the democratic party and bow out now. Beginning Friday she is going to be invovled in a civil suit involving the worst instance of campaign finance fraud in the history of this country, a case where it will be demonstrated that she was one of the primary individuals to collude, conspire and orchestrate the fraud as well as to mispresent the fraud to the Fraud to the FEC. Not only will this instance of fraud in California be addressed, but her participation in other instances of fraud will come out during this trial.

And this time, the evidence is incontrovertable. This will be a Clinton debacle that, unlike in the 90s, they will NOT be able to get themselves out of. They've already been fined by the FEC. However, the civil case will be far worse, because unlike the FEC, this case is in Civil court and therefore, the government will be unable to cut a deal under the rug as a favor to her to cover her butt.

If she has any integrity, and this certain will test whether she has any, she will bow out now.

Poison??? Mickey's??? They must be scared Hillary will win Big!!!!

The Dude   April 22nd, 2008 7:07 pm ET

When I first read the headline, I thought it had something to do with her campaign being in debt, and not being able to afford snacks.
