What are the three Abercrombie supporters doing behind Obama?
What are the three Abercrombie supporters doing behind Obama?

(CNN)– Barack Obama's concession speech Tuesday launched a primary night mystery that is still mystifying puzzled viewers: just who were those three guys in Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirts standing behind him as he spoke — and what, exactly, were they doing there?

The speculation began long before the Illinois senator's speech ended: were they plants? pranksters? or was the explanation really as simple as: just three guys who really like A&F T-shirts?

Be sure to tune in to the 6 p.m. hour of The Situation Room, when CNN's Jeannie Moos explores this controversy over casual wear.

Is this reaching for news or what? Who cares why two guys were wearing A&F Tshirts? Plants? And the purpose would be…? Is CNN a news organization anymore or just a video version of the National Enquirer. What an incredible waste of news space. Great use of your degree Jeannie. This is tough, hard news. So much so that I'm surprized Wolf doesn't give it attention in his silly situation room.

max   April 23rd, 2008 5:03 pm ET

You all are really idiots, So what……. Please gather some real news, we are done with CNN you all are really idiots, cant wait until you are sold because the new owners wont want you what a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane   April 23rd, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Those shirts were very distracting. Particularly the shirt on the far left with "Fitch". Ugh. Product placement?

Dante   April 23rd, 2008 5:01 pm ET

LOL I think there are more important things to investigate than this…..(I wondered about it too but come on CNN…)

The American People   April 23rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Breaking news, it spelled out a secret message. Are you guys serious? Some people like that brand… breaking news 6 people behind Barack were wearing Levi's! ZOMG!

Bill   April 23rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

Why? Are these mystified puzzled viewers Nazi dress code enforcers?

Alonzo Demetrius   April 23rd, 2008 5:00 pm ET

I must say, those three guys don't appear to be very happy. Wonder why???

John in TX   April 23rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

"Controversy?" That word has lost all meaning thanks to things like this.

eli   April 23rd, 2008 4:58 pm ET

hey CNN, what kind of questions you are trying to raise about Obama! That's sick!

Joshua College Station Texas   April 23rd, 2008 4:57 pm ET

If it wasn't Jeanne Moos, I'd say, give me a break! But you're a funny lady, Jeanne. At least you don't take yourself too seriously. I'll be sure to check it out.

Kirk   April 23rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Maybe they were Obama supporters wearing Abecrombie and Fitch tee
shirts? So What? It would be cool though if they also read "YES WE
CAN" on the back. Hey, what a great idea.

Obama 08.

I thought it was me!   April 23rd, 2008 4:56 pm ET

I was watching the speech and thought all of those shirts in a row was the weirdest thing!!!!!

Eric   April 23rd, 2008 4:55 pm ET

I think this wins as the most ridiculous space filler of a story I have ever seen.

Gail in Illinois   April 23rd, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Are you kidding me??? Where's the "news". Isn't this a news channel?? Lame.

Carlos   April 23rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Controversy? Dear god, whom ever is making this a controversy really has too much time on their hands.

William J. Samarin   April 23rd, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Calling that a "concession speech" was a blow below the belt.

Robert Mpls   April 23rd, 2008 4:51 pm ET

Are…you…kidding me?

C'mon, guys. It's hardly a slow news day.

writing on the wall   April 23rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

CNN. When you are bored, pick up a book to read, OK?

theresa   April 23rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Oh Lord. Now people has to change clothes to attend his rallies.

Rob   April 23rd, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Please, CNN, devote at least an entire hour of riveting coverage to this critical issue. Leave no stone unturned in exposing Senator Obama's ties to the Clothing-That-Was-Trendy-Ten-Years-Ago Lobby.

Timothy   April 23rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

who cares

mark   April 23rd, 2008 4:49 pm ET

we were wondering what the deal with this was!

eddie n. powellnye   April 23rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

NOW ITS DOWN TO WHAT T-SHIRTS SOMEONE IS WEARING. IF THEY ARE SPIES– WHO CARES. WHAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT BITTER TAPE. NO ONE HAS ASKED HOW IT GOT OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE. IT IS MIGHTY STRANGE THAT BILLARYS PRIVATE FUND RAISER COMMENTS HAVE NEVER HIT THE AIR WAVES. I SMELL A SKUNK. LIKE WE SAY IN THE SOUTH– 'IF IT WALK LIKE A DUCK, BUT BARKS LIKE A DOG, THEN IT IS A DOG UNTIL IT LAYS AN EGG'.

ejmounsey Granville Ohio   April 23rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Sometimes a shirt is just a shirt.

Chris - Hemet, Ca.   April 23rd, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Obvious space aliens that have no idea what to wear to a political rally.

Superdelegate   April 23rd, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I don't know who they were, but the little one bugged me so much, looked like he was on coke, obviously not a Obama supported.

nice work   April 23rd, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Cnn, glad you're focusing on the important news stories! Great work

Julia   April 23rd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

This is officially the dumbest "article" I've ever read.

RFP   April 23rd, 2008 4:45 pm ET

So lame… who cares?

Seth   April 23rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

"Be sure to tune in to the 6 p.m. hour of The Situation Room, when CNN's Jeannie Moos explores this controversy over casual wear"

The Situation Room has just officially "jumped the shark."

seattle sue   April 23rd, 2008 4:44 pm ET

I'm sure some of you people will be writing that this is a Clinton plot of some kind.

Arkansas Undertaker   April 23rd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

What are you talking about CNN?

Brian   April 23rd, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Who cares? Yet another excuse to give more airtime to Obama.

This is pathetic.

Yes, check this   April 23rd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Looks like CNN is not having any better job than doing this analysis. How about covering all the news properly and unbiased.

MD in OK   April 23rd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Cnn, Are you serious? At least they are clothed. You think that's bad, then try walking through the mall where we actually see pornographic pictures.

Who is paying you to report these kind of stories. Maybe I'll encourage my daughter to major in journalism and get a job with one of the major network news stations because it doesn't take much research or effort to report nonsense.

Dylan   April 23rd, 2008 4:42 pm ET

Are you serioius CNN? Please tell me you're kidding.

This network has helped manufacture a lot of non-stories for the sole purpose of selling "news" that keeps this campaign going.

This is a new low.

Dylan   April 23rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

Are you serioius CNN? Please tell me you're kidding.

Salaam, Lawrence KS   April 23rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

This is a non-issue. Most college students dress alike, and a lot of them tend to wear that brand. In addition, the majority of college students tend to be Obama supporters. This apparently was no deliberate commercial for the clothing brand.

John   April 23rd, 2008 4:41 pm ET

WHY in the world is this considered news? Aren't there much more important things that CNN should be reporting on?

Sugar ~n~ Spice   April 23rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

They were more than likely planted like most of the "white" people were at so many of his other rallies. Just to gain the A&F age group. Maybe if he has an old guy with a Depends T-Shirt on maybe he can get the Senior crowd he has been missing out on? He is sooooooooo fake.

Jeff M.   April 23rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Seriously?

SERIOUSLY?

Barry   April 23rd, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Huh!? What the…? It's actually being looked into…?

Jennifer   April 23rd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

THIS is all you have to report on?? This article is flat out stupid.

I'm officially NOT going to visit the Clinton News Network any longer. Everytime I open an article, I can feel the brain cells dying as I try to read this garbage.

This probably won't even get posted. If it's not geared toward Clinton, it gets ignored.

Later CNN. Have fun continuing to kiss Clinton Azz.

R. T.   April 23rd, 2008 4:39 pm ET

He sells subliminal ads during speeches while he is railing against being influenced by lobbyists and their money? Priceless.

Mike Tomlinson   April 23rd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

this is completely ridiculous, if anyone makes a big deal out of three guys wearing A&F t-shirts, then political coverage has reached a new low in this country

Natalie   April 23rd, 2008 4:38 pm ET

Are you kidding me CNN? A controversy? What controversy?

I'll tell you what the "controversy" is, the MAINSTREAM MEDIA, and your incessant creation of "controversy" out of thin air!

Stick to the REAL issues and stop trying to make things into something they are not.

Nunya   April 23rd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

I noticed them during the speech. I wondered who was clever enough to engage them in some guerilla advertising. : )

Bruce   April 23rd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Interesting…very interesting. I could not help but think they seemed out of place I was watching the speech live. They looked kinda nervous and very suspicious I must say…

Nimesh Patel, Antioch, Ca   April 23rd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Another sound example of what's important for the media pundits…..lets make A&F a "very important political issue to discuss" and lets spend many hours spinning and analysing this so very imporatant issue and put the high gas prices on the back burner……..

Captain Cannabis   April 23rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Is this the type of primary coverage we deserve? I think not. CNN needs to screen this type of crap because I'm a lot more worried about that state of the country than a few preppies who wear Abercrombie and Fitch. It's no wonder American people are misinformed and misguided when it comes to politics. If this is the best you can do CNN, then I seriously have to call into question your integrity. Stick to what matters, not "bitter" comments or the nonsensical rantings of an angry black pastor that has no bearing on Senator Obama's stance or policies.

A.   April 23rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Seriously? Who gives a crap!

AW   April 23rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

This isn't news. I know real journalism is hard, but you gotta try CNN. Bad enough this trash is on your website, but you're putting it on the air too. That's pathetic. Go hire some folks with Journalism degrees, you can fire Blitzer to pay for their salaries. Also, promote Cooper. And get me a pony.

Bukky   April 23rd, 2008 4:36 pm ET

What!?!?! are your freaking serious? this is a story? "the controversy over Casual Wear? I swear to you… right. If you air this BS i will NEVER EVER EVER watch CNN again.

Nick - Arlington, VA   April 23rd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

are you telling me that it is a mystery how 3 white guys aged 18-25, who are probably friends and fans of Obama, all wear the same type of clothing???? nah…that can't be it, it must be some sort of "elitist" conspiracy……..say it aint so CNN.

Ryan   April 23rd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Maybe they are just Obama supporters who happened to be wearing abercrombie that day…. Is this really news?

dm_pgh   April 23rd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Seriously, CNN?!?!? could you maybe do your job and focus on the news rather than absurd clothing conspiracies.

Makeshift   April 23rd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

Isnt it obvious? People in Indiana are still stuck in 1998.

Drew   April 23rd, 2008 4:34 pm ET

hahahah are you serious? This is so stupid… its just a bunch of guys wearing A&F. Thanks cnn for a great laugh.

Nick - Arlington, VA   April 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

are you telling me that it is a mystery how 3 white guys aged 18-25, who are probably friends and fans of Obama, all wear the same type of clothing???? nah…that can't be it, it must be some sort of "elitist" conspiracy……..say it aint so CNN.

Nick L   April 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS?!?!?!?

Honestly, CNN, you're being ridiculous. No one cares, so shut up and lets discuss real issues.

Rick A   April 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Is this a joke? MANUFACTURED DISTRACTION!

Emma   April 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Will the media please back out. You are beginning to make everyone sick with your insinuations and spin

Thanks CNN   April 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

And this is news why?

Lonnie H.   April 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

OK, this is a perfect example as to why this democratic race is getting out of control and unfortunately off the most important topics; THE ISSUES! CNN, why is this news? What happened to presidential campaigns being about the will of the American people, and not "T-shirts"? Man, just think of the controversy if they all had on Gap T-shirts instead. How sad…

Lonnie H.- Toledo, OH.

GIVE ME A BREAK   April 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Ok, now what are you stirring up this time CNN?!?!?!
good grief!

Fay (the Young Texan who voted for Obama)   April 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Is this really news? OMG people! It's not like they were wearing shirts with cuss words on them. They like Abercrombie. Make sure that I never wear Nike with my friends. That will be breaking news! LOL. C'mon.

Anonymous   April 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

It's topic like this that keep me from watching The Situation Room

Saint   April 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I'm sure T-Shirts aren't important ,as to what Obama really stands for.
Obama will do well in this race as he has done. We don't need the Clinton Dynasty in the White House and more.

momma obama   April 23rd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

by GOD cnn, why have you not reported that clinton's food adn drinks were being confiscated last night??
or why teh vendors are not being paid.

John J.   April 23rd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Is it really that slow a news day?

Travis   April 23rd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Well it just goes to show Obama's Target audience "young affluent voters who well duh shop at Abercrombie and Fitch" I think it is very fitting because those are just the type of people that vote for him! And I must say that overall it just adds to why he turns off so many of us "blue collar uneducated voters"

Kevin   April 23rd, 2008 4:30 pm ET

Obviously an over-the-top attempt to make Obama's supporters look like trend followers.

Nice try, but it fails.

Romulus, Michigan   April 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

What are you talking about? You must be joking.

Herman LA, CA   April 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Please tell me this is a joke!

Sean   April 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

Oh I can't wait to know! Bang up job CNN. Why would anyone want to turn to alternate sources of news when we have such intelligent questions like this one being asked in the main stream? I absolutely MUST know why those kids wore the same brand shirt!!!!!!

As Obama would say, "C'mon! C'mon!"

~Sean

Rob   April 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

You guys are kidding right?

KT   April 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Um………..who…………..freaking……….cares?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Hold-up, hold-up….maybe we should care. Perhaps Obama has sold out to the Abercrombie & Fitch Lobby. I can't believe it…my candidate has sold out a lobby that represents t-shirt-wearing guys in their mid to late 20's with horrible taste. I'm mortified.

C'mon folks……give us news. Thank you.

Frank, Missouri   April 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm ET

Are you guys serious ?

Daniel   April 23rd, 2008 4:27 pm ET

"Controversy over casual wear"? Am I missing something, or have I stepped into the twilight zone where wearing A&F is verboten?

Coloradan   April 23rd, 2008 4:27 pm ET

CNN,

THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY STUPID.

I despise this kind of "reporting".

Get a LIFE!

honkey white guy from cali   April 23rd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

This is just more tabloid garbage

Kara   April 23rd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

You must be kidding right? You are going to waste the time of the American people analyzing why two young guys were wearing the same t-shirt that 99.9% of that age groups wears all the time? This is important? CNN and ABC owned by the same company?

joyce   April 23rd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

i looked up up the comment and proubly bill paid them to wear the t shirts. what a joke/ barack has 2 little girls and he will do for our country what he wants for his girls, get real people

True Dem   April 23rd, 2008 4:25 pm ET

I've been to rallies for Obama. We're allowed to wear whatever we want.

Bit, Alabama   April 23rd, 2008 4:24 pm ET

And?

Brendan D, Niles, IL   April 23rd, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Brilliant job, CNN! That's cutting edge reporting! Thank you so much for your enlightening investigation into the three dudes behind Barack Obama. It's way more important than, say, how Hillary Clinton has said she reserves the right to attack Iran.

marq   April 23rd, 2008 4:24 pm ET

come on now CNN that's petty.. Talk real issues…

jd24   April 23rd, 2008 4:24 pm ET

can we say these 3 are OBAMACANS!

Lostfigs   April 23rd, 2008 4:19 pm ET

This part of Obama's Corporate support debt. He takes the money then places ads during his speeches.

Hillary 08!

lynn in iowa   April 23rd, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Are you kidding me?? This is a "controversy of casual wear"? Wow is CNN searching for news or what? I noticed it too while I was watching the speech but somehow I didn't see the controversy in it. I guess that is why I don't work for the media.

Perrell, Lincolnton, NC   April 23rd, 2008 4:19 pm ET

CNN are you really serious, if they are college students age then they are just wearing that kind of clothing because they like it… just when i thought CNN couldn't get any low then what they already are…

Bridgette   April 23rd, 2008 4:18 pm ET

Okay it is official you all have nothing on this man. You are just making up controversies. Everything that has been brought out about this man is not about him. It is about somebody he knows. That tells me that you guys don't have anything on this man.

voice of reason, NC   April 23rd, 2008 4:18 pm ET

They weren't even listening to him. They'd raise a slogan on cue. Like a zombie or a robot.
