Richardson: Clinton supporters 'clinging to the throne'

CNN

Watch Carville and Richardson square off on Larry King Live.

(CNN) – After weeks of verbal brawling, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and James Carville spoke for the first time on CNN’s Larry King Live Wednesday night. Richardson – now a supporter of Barack Obama – called Hillary Clinton backers like Carville ‘a dynasty’ that is ‘clinging to the throne.’

The CNN contributor defended calling Richardson a ‘Judas’ in a New York Times interview after the governor announced his endorsement of Obama.

“I said it. I was quoted accurately. I was quoted in context. I thought it was an appropriate metaphor,” Carville told King. “If it would have been the Fourth of July, I would have said ‘Benedict Arnold,’” Carville said.

Richardson called Carville’s response “typical of the reaction of Clinton supporters.”

“They feel they’re a dynasty. They’re clinging to the throne,” Richardson added.

Watch Carville and Richardson clash over whether the results in the Florida and Michigan primaries should help determine the Democratic Party’s nominee, whether Obama should agree to more debates before Indiana and North Carolina vote May 6 - and whether the primary race has become so negative it’s hurting the party’s prospects in the general election.

well said Richardson. The Clinton's believe the democractic party is theirs and therefore they can do whatever they please. No more Clintons in the White House should be America's rallying cry!

I am not convinced by the reasons Mr Richardson gave for suddenly supporting Obama .. He seems self serving and low quality man to me.. Mr Carville is spot on..

Bill Richardson is one of the most honest, thoughful politicians I have ever seen. He's always right on, and proves that again here. His service to this country as well as the world is truly remarkable, and he deserves the respect of the Clinton campaign for it.

Thanks for defending Barack, Bill, and for staying involved! We know that you are supporting him for all the right reasons!!!!

Richardson did such a bad job last night on Larry King.....he sounded defensive and just kept coming back to "it's gotten so negative" UGH....does everyone who backs BO have to WHINE so much?????? He couldn't hand the race either and dropped out....

Richardson was a traitor, James Carville did not have a bad reation to any other BO backer....Richardson OBVIOUSLY did something bad behind the scenes that James is refraining from letting the media know....

Ricarson is now on a campaign of his own trying to save his skin....

Carville's comments are inane. It's like he's putting some sort of voodoo curse on anyone who doesn't tow the Clinton line. It's time for Hillary, Bill, Carville and all their little gang to go home now and let the grown-ups talk.
More politicians should be like Richardson and have the courage and backbone to do the right thing for the country instead of what the Clintons command them to do.

The Clinton campaign has not said anything at all about other endorsements except to express gratitude for those they received. Bill Richardson is the only one they've made an issue of, and for good reason. The irony is that his endorsement has, of course, probably made little difference in the Obama campaign. Naturally, Richardson did this in his own self- interests, and now the other irony is that the side he gambled would win just might not.

The most divisive comments I have ever heard, Governor Richardson. Talk about biting the hand that fed you for 8 years. Now you're not only going to insult Mrs. Clinton and her husband, but also their SUPPORTERS? An abhorrence on politics. Dispicable. I'm glad you supported Obama!

There should be absolutely no question that the votes in Florida and Michigan should NOT count and here's why:

Everyone knew going into those primaries that the results were not going to count for anything. It was very common knowledge. The media was calling it a "beauty contest" at the time for that reason. As a result, many people who might have otherwise voted in those states may not have. In other cases, people may have voted in the Republican primary instead, since it at least had some meaning. No matter how hard Hillary and her supporters try, they cannot make those results fair in the slightest, so they should not count, period. Of course, there is also the tiny issue that Obama's name WASN'T EVEN ON THE BALLOT in Michigan...

And there's one more hitch to Clinton's plan to try to argue that the popular vote has more meaning than delegates-

Many of the caucus states do not even record the popular vote totals. These are states that DID play by the rules, and held their caucuses by the book, and only delegate totals were recorded not popular votes. Hillary is conveniently leaving these states out of her calculations, along with ALL other caucus states. Keep in mind that this is coming from the candidate who wants "every vote to count", and "every voice to be heard"...

Just another example of how she is willing to twist anything to her advantage. SHOW SOME CREDABILITY AND SENSE OF FAIRNESS HILLARY!! Your lame arguments are transparent to most voters.
