Clinton hits McCain over New Orleans comments

McCain traveled to New Orleans Friday.
McCain traveled to New Orleans Friday.

(CNN) - On the heels of John McCain's visit to New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, Hillary Clinton said Thursday night she has a better record of fighting to rebuild the Hurricane-ravaged region.

"The difference between Senator McCain and myself is that I have a long record of fighting to rebuild the Gulf and to help the citizens who live along the Gulf who were left to their own devices by their government," Clinton said at an Indiana event. "In fact, Senator McCain said he might want to tear down the ninth ward instead of rebuilding it, but I went to the ninth ward after Katrina and met with people there and saw the destruction and I saw the resilience in their eyes and they deserve our help to rebuild and regain their lives and their homes."

Clinton appears to be referring to comments McCain made Monday on board his campaign bus: "That is why we need to go back - to have a conversation about what to do - rebuild it, tear it down - you know -whatever it is," he said then.

But speaking in New Orleans Thursday night, McCain seemed to rule out the possibility of tearing down the area.

"There may be some who wonder from afar: Why even bother rebuilding parts of what was lost in Katrina? But the people who live there in the Ninth Ward don't feel that way. They are even hoping that life will be better than before," he said

And where were the Clintons while all that was going on in New Orleans? Were they down there once? They were raking in $109 million over 5 years. Did they contribute any of that to help those people? Not that I heard.

More political opportunism from Clinton. She will say anything, and will use anybody or anything to further her own agenda.

Hillary has ticked me off so much during this campaign that even when she says something that i want to agree with, I find myself wanting to object just because she said it! I really didn't want to believe the naysayers at first but I really am starting to see just how our party is!!!

I am a repubican who has become energized to particpate in the process for the first time by Barack.

Unfortunately by their actions during this primary process, the Clintons have tarnished thier legacy and sadly HRC's amibition to become president will never materialize.

Does anyone else notice how Clinton is just jumping of everything these days. Obama and McCain cant even pick there noses without Clinton making a big deal about it!!!! I didn't think she could make me hate her any more than I already did, but that is the only thing she is good at I guess, making people hate her.

She scares me nodding her head like she does and it should scare the country to have someone like her in charge of this country let alone BIll running around in the Whitehouse with that CIGAR !!! Flip, flop. Hillary hasn't done anything for us in Louisiana. None of them have done anything for Louisiana. Why? We vote Republican and the Republicans could give a hoot. The democrats like ole Hillary are come down here and act like they can go back to Washington and tell a few stories and generate some concern. We are American's after all. We care more about making sure that Iraq's infrastructure is in tact. And, we'll have to be there for a hundred years if that is what it takes.

I want to see that "long record of fighting to rebuild the gulf." Just because she says what any hack politician would say (that we need to help people in bad situations) doesn't mean she actually lifted a finger to do anything about it.

Yes Hillary has a great record, I'm sure that she had to run from Ward to Ward amidst sniper fire and bombings. I't's going to be geat to have Hillary and her credentials as Chief Commander and her pocket advisor Bill.

I have absolutely no interest anymore in what that lying, cheating, dishonest monster of a woman has to say and I have no interest in what her horrid, lying, cheating, immoral, skanky, racist, dishonest, monster of a husband has to say either. If Obama does not get the nomination, I am writing him in anyway. Too bad McCain did not know a little more about the economy or I would vote for him over her in a minute. wow, what a horrid monster she is. If she somehow steals and cheats her way into the nomination and the presidency, I am just going to sit back and laugh at all of the people who voted for her as their lives and our economy go down the toilet.

If a bunch of NO citizens want to live under sea level and live in an area that this can happen again, then let these citizens do as they wish.

It's their lives, and don't come crying to me if it happens again, because you know better.

McCain looks like a dead man in a baseball hat.. Scary !!! Take a break, get a tan... and leave the politicking to the young. Your flip-flopping all over the issues is very distressing....

To the Clintonites: Yes Mrs. Clinton has done more to try to help the Gulf region recover. So what has she accomplished? NOTHING ... the situation remains dire in the regions most affected by the hurricane. So Clinton is pointing out her failures here in my opinion. That's her problem, she has screamed and hollered about most touchy subjects in America, but has accomplished very little in the way of correcting those problems. That's why an inspirational speaker like Obama can so easily steal so many of her past constituents. Even though he hasn't accomplished much either.
