Clinton lost a big fundraiser to Obama.
Clinton lost a big fundraiser to Obama.

(CNN) - A “Hillraiser” – a major fundraiser for Hillary Clinton – said Friday he had defected to Barack Obama’s campaign. The official announcement will be made next week.

Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon – who served as ambassador to Chile during the Clinton administration – had raised close to half a million dollars for Clinton’s campaign, reports Chuck Todd, who broke the story.

"We're just bleeding each other out," Guerra-Mondragon told the Washington Post. "Looking at it as coldly as I can, I just don't see how Senator Clinton can overcome Senator Obama with delegates and popular votes. I want this fight to be over, the quicker the better."

He added that leaving the Clinton campaign for Obama's "was a very, very difficult decision for me to make. I am an old and longtime friend of Senator Clinton. And I continue to think she is a fantastic and formidable person. But I am first of all a Democrat."

You know I really don't care about either of this campaigns but is there such thing as loyalty and honor anymore? Would these same people defect to another country at war simply because the other side is winning?

If I was Obama I would be very skeptical to accept these people on my team, considering I would have such good judgment :)

Tommy   April 25th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Looks like someone else who is sick of Hillary and Bill's gutter politics. They are using the same tactics that Bush/Rove/Cheney used in 2000 and 2004. Do we really need these kinds of sleazy politicians running our country? Say no to same old, same old Bush-Clinton politics in America!

Confused In DC   April 25th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Hey Susan MO, first you're 'Strongly for Hillary Clinton', then you're saying Go Obama, would you make up your mind, please?

Janet   April 25th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

The more I read all of the hate coming from the Obama camp, the more it reinforces my decision to vote for Hillary. It's so very sad to know that McCain will come out the winner, because of the hard feelings created by the Obama people. It's just not me that feels this way. I own a business in New Jersey and talk alot with my customers about this election, and the majority of them, hard working people feel like I do. Either they are not going to vote at all or they will vote for McCain. God help me but I never thought when this campaign started that I would even think of voting for McCain, but I just can't bring myself to vote for someone that has no experience and never seems to answer a question, he reminds me too much of George W. "I'm the Uniter, not he Diveder". God Bless America

Hillary it is over!!! Her people are defecting. They are looking at the big picture... November election. Something she will not do.

She just raised $10 million in 24 hours! That sort of tells me
that her supporters WANT HER TO STAY IN.

I'm sorry, but my party DOES NOT COME FIRST.
If I don't like the candidate, I can't vote for them.

And I will not vote for an arrogant, racist, hot air balloon.

GO HILLARY!!!!!!

Dennis   April 25th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

I think Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon's actions are similar to those of a lot of super delegates we'll be seeing. Despite the 9-10% margin of victory for Senator Clinton, she only picked up 10 delegates. She'll likely lose that ground on May 6th when North Carolina and Indiana go to the polls.

Senator Clinton will not likely catch Senator Obama in pledged delegates or the popular vote. Many of the super delegates are beginning to realize that. As much as they may not like it, they also realize the Democrats need to name their nominee and start working towards the general election in November.

robb   April 25th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

I guess the DNC went with the right person. Senator O is a money making machine.

June W   April 25th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

Another one jumping ship, what's wrong with this picture? Sure doesn't sound like she's too popular with her friends either. Somebody please throw her a lifeline! Send in the Marine's,,,but wait, they're not available, they're off fighting a war she voted for. Poor Hillary, looks like it will have to be Bill to the rescue, but didn't she tell him to go away, sit in a corner and shut up?

Sharon Walker be careful what you say. Things have a way of coming back to us full circle. I'm sure you would not want anyone to call you or anyone in your circle to be called a murdered or wish that they would be hunted down. Again, be careful what you say. Words are powerful when released to the universe. If you don't want Obama to be president, fine....then don't vote for him. Don't wish him harm!!!

Chad Lupkes   April 25th, 2008 4:56 pm ET

If both candidates were staying on the high road, this continuing contest would be the greatest thing that ever happened to the Democratic Party. Both candidates should be going after John McCain, trying to prove that they are the best person to go against him in November. Because the Clinton Camp is saying now that Obama is not the right person to be the president, how can we believe them after the Convention when they will be REQUIRED to say it in order to put a Democrat in the White House.

Hillary may be willing and able to wait for 2012 before she gets into the Oval Office. The world can't wait. We need a Democrat on January 20th, 2009. We need a Democrat in the White House now...

Democrats are good at one thing- losing elections...even those that are in the bag.

We have now spent more money than ever to beat a really weak republican nominee, with everyone already disgusted with Bush.

But once again, we are trying to install the nominee with appeal to the radical, ultra-liberal and fringe elements of the party. Such a candidate can not even pull all of the democrats behind him- much less the rest of America.

Now we wil Pander to the newbies and the black vote- out of fear of alienating them... and then we are willing to lose the election. Again.

We never learn.

jj   April 25th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Just like I've said before, the Obama camp says, if you don't vote for him it's because you're a racist. And Obama people try to blame Clinton for bringing race into it???? .. So Clinton supporters should be saying that if you don't vote for her your a sexist??? Grow up people. We've come way past black vs white, IF YOU LET IT. How about people just vote for who they like huh?? quit trying to tear our party apart about race.

Melanie, TX   April 25th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

This is great news. I hope others are watching and following. :)

Jeff Radun   April 25th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Please Hillary
I wish you would win as you are our only hope the dems have of getting into the white house. Obama is to close to racists and he is a flawed candidate.

But saying that he has the nomination almost in the bag and barring the supers giving you the nomination he has to make another huge mistake for them to move to you. Stay in long enough to win Indiana and then drop out so it will show the rest of the party he does not have the white vote, the womans vote, the hispanic vote, the religious vote, the seniors vote, the blue colar working vote, You know the core dem of the party. .
Listen to the Obamanation. Retire from the race and the senate.
You and Bill go off and enjoy the 109 mil you guys earned.
Let Obama try with the help of the supers like Ted Kennedy, Bill Richardson and the rest get the people who supported you in this race back in the fold. I very much dought they can do it. They couldn't deliver thier own sates to him. How do you think they will do in the general.
McCain 2008

tidho   April 25th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

I think the language he used tells it all – he's a Democrat first.

Hillary is damaging the party. Obama has been and remains the front runner and her attacks on him are legitimizing the attacks Republicans will make in the fall.

Another defector. People with moral values have finally seen the light and our walking away from the dark side. When are the rest of the Hillary supporters going to wake up. Close friends who have strong ties to the Clintons are defecting this should tell you something. Something evil is going on in her camp. The rest of you better repent and see the light before you are cast down into the firey pit of hell.

GM from MN   April 25th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

That is awesome. I think superdelegates will take this into account. Especially her own fundraisers say enough is enough. Superdelegates are likely to follow. After Indiana and NC vote everyone will quietly ask her to step down and when she refuses to do so the superdelegates will endorse obama so he reaches the 2025 needed.

I have a feeling though that even if that happens she will still keep campaigning.

I said this over 2 months ago. This contest is going to bleed us democrats dry and weaken us in November. And that is exactly what is taking place. It is obvious that Hillary cannot win legitamately, so the supers need to force her out now – so we can focus are time and resources against McCain and the republicans.

thats what obama is doing. Hes preying on the uneducated blacks for their votes. They dont care what he stands for, they just want a black president. and of course, everyone is too scared to admit the truth.

you will find out that if it is between obama and mccain, people will vote for mccain. obama is not a strong choice...and he is a bit wimpy when it comes to standing up to someone...its a shame that people in the united states are that stupid that they dont listen to what is going on...

I think it's respectable that Mondragon is capable of setting aside petty differences to see what's best for the Democratic party. Being divided at this stage in the game can only be bad for Democrats come November.

Hillary should, by all means, stay in to see what the remainder of the voters have to say, but it would be great if she could do so in a manner that doesn't damage Obama's chances in November since he will be the likely nominee. Even McCain and Huckabee have spoken out against the ridiculous focus on supposed "issues" like Wright, so it would be nice if Hillary could show the same maturity.

People say Obama cannot win the General Election, but Hillary can. Then doesn't Hillary first have to get past Obama? This is what the latest superdelegate is pointing out, and the sooner other superdelegates realize this and switch their support for Obama, the greater the opportunity for a striaight fighet between Obama dn McCain. Hillary is behaving like a spolier and a spolied brat. She is the one who failed to close the deal on Super Tuesday (February5th) despite her promise last December.

A.J.   April 25th, 2008 4:51 pm ET

I like the move, I wish Hillary would wake up and smell the coffee, Obama is a strong General Election nominee, and this is coming from an Independent, I feel sorry for Senator Clinton, who took Obama so lightly when this all started 14 months ago, this nomination was hers all the way, and she blew it, there is no one to blame but herself, I just wish Obama could have one the Texas Primary, even though he did win the caucus, and netted more delegates, because this would have been over, President Clinton even said so.

Patty, people *aren't* arguing that superdelegates should vote the way their states did. People are saying that superdelegates would be foolish to vote counter to the way most voters have chosen. Most people who are saying that are intending it nationwide, not state-by-state. And, yes, that would be true regardless of which one was the leader.

Nate   April 25th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

There is a big court case involving Bill, Hillary and this Peter Paul guy that is set to go to trial this year. I think a lot of people see the writing on the wall. If this thing goes to trial and Hillary has to testify it's over. Much more, she's behind in this race and people are beginning to see the effect of the hold no prisoners approach the Clintons are taking.

Any person who believes that Hillary legitimately won Michigan and Florida has completely lost objectivity. Obama wisely removed himself from the ballot (even though he may have actually won Michigan) and he did not campaign in Florida- Hillary agreed not to campaign in Florida but did anyway. She also agree that the votes wouldn't count- now to insist that they do and they should is completely unethical. Floridans should have a say but not based on those election results.

Gina - Lancaster, PA   April 25th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Take it easy, Hillary supporters. These SD's are being forced and threatened to....by the Obama campaign and Pelosi and Dean and the DNC....to switch their votes to Obama. They are not doing it because they think Obama is what's best for this country. It's like none of these people have a set of cajones to stand up to any of these people. Dean and the DNC and Pelosi and Obama, of course, have been pushing for the SD's to come over to his side in order to force Hillary out of the race so that he doesn't have to earn the nomination, but they play it out as all the back-and-forth between Barack and Hillary is "destroying" the democratic party. Talk about a bunch of melodrama.

If they actually get away with this, and I don't see that happening, they will pay for it in November when we lose to John McCain. If that's what the DNC and Obama camp really wants, they'll get it. Obama is not electable. Plain and simple.

suzanne   April 25th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I wonder what this person was promised to defect to Obama. The Democratic establishment and most of the media decided months ago even before Super Tuesday that Obama was their guy. It's a really strange choice given that the lead candidate has gotten most of his delegates from caucuses and primaries in states that almost always vote Republican. Good luck in the General Election Democrats. You are giong to need it.

Tim B, KS   April 25th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

My sympathies exactly. If Hillary were up this late in the game, I'd ask for Barack to drop out. Just because Hillary is a higher profile name–and was seen as the "inevitable" candidate, doesn't give her the privilege to force her own candidacy, or at least ruin a party in the process.

DGW   April 25th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

If the mods are going to willy nilly approve stuff like the sharon walker comment, then why have this annoying moderation feature at all?

Back on topic, this is a obviously good turn of events, he is so right that we are bleeding each other over this fight. To the Hillary supporters your candidate put up a great fight and extending this battle to Indiana has done great things for increasing the registered voter base and building a formidable GOTV army. But the end is now near, we will all be better for it reaching its conclusion sooner than later.

Why do Obama supporters say that SHE IS destroying the dem. party. You playing the race issue over and over is destroying the party and the country. OBAMA SUPPORTERS ARE DIVIDING OUR COUNTRY and set us back 50 years. Let the race play out, so much negativity in these comments is destroying the party, you push people and then they push back in Nov if he does get the nomination. You have alienated so many people we will not be able to come together in the fall. The dems won't win again because Obama's so called supporters are what will be the end of him. You've turned him into exactly what he said he wouldn't be. Be proud

Roger Evans Colorado   April 25th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

You know what they say ,want goes around, comes a round. Hillary all yoy lies and cheating is coming a rouind to bite you in the butt. People who know you and Bill want to distance themselfs from you. Look back overe all the years, the only way Clintos can win is to trash people, I have not heard anything about what you will do for me or the country, all I hear is you trashing Obama, now he con't talk about what needs to be done, because he has to defend himself, thanks Hillary as usual the Clintons screw up.

Democrat for Hillary

Hillary, Liar from Day 1   April 25th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

That's great news for Hillary!

Now she can continue to destroy the democratic party on her way out the door to ensure Bill will be the last great Democratic President EVER! She can also give reasons why the GOP is the better party then announce formally she's really a GOP girl.

Go Hillary! You Go Girl !!!!

Hillary, Republican from Day 1 !

mm Let me see this str8: Clinton was behind in the Gallup polls a few weeks ago by a big margin of about 10 points, had not yet came as a winner in PA but this guy decided to stay with her ... now, that everything points to her come back, and the possibilities, though slim, are there (Gallup shows them evenly tied at 45 and the same in Indiana, and Carolina's Obama lead is shrinking by the hour) but it's now that this guy decides to jump off the boat .. mmm there most a cat in the hat some place there....

gerald strother   April 25th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

campaign finance reports.

To date, the Clinton campaign has spent about $163 million, and Obama's campaign has spent more than $189 million.

Both candidates, however, have debt. Obama owes about $660,000, and Clinton is in the red by about $10 million.

I would to do the math over over for chintion

Dan , TX   April 25th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Look, we all love Hillary and think she's great, but we just want something different this time around. I think Hillary should stay in the race, but let's all just put our emotions aside for a bit. Obama will have more delegates going into the convention than Hillary. The superdelegates, even if they split fairly evenly will give Obama the nomination, even with FL and MI counted.

We need Hillary's expertise, she will be a critical ally to Obama as well as a good friend. Hillary and Obama have a great deal of respect for each other, but right now, they have to put that admiration away until the nomination process is finished. After the primary season is over, we will come together. If we don't come together, our economy will die along with our sons and daughters in Iraq and Afghanistan – and perhaps Iran. We need something done about health care. We need either Obama or Clinton in the White House. It turns out it will be Obama. It's OK, Hillary will be fine, she will be a powerful political force in the Senate. We need to not lose track of the prize because we have hurt feelings right now.

Come on people! Stop taunting each other and act like responsible voters. You are derailing this party. The democratic party is going to lose this thing because we are bickering amongst ourselves. Instead of seeing a Democrat in office who could maybe bring about change and health care and bring our soldiers home, we will be watching McCain age in the White House. Spin this negativity into a positive for whichever candidate rocks your boat.

I Love this!!!   April 25th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

This is the right decision to make.............let's focus on the Democratic Party. While I am a O'Bama supporter, I would feel the same way if Hillary was in the lead. And quite frankly I think O'Bama would have left the campaign by now if he were in Clinton's position. Clinton's willingness to undermine the entire democratic party has really changed my view of her. At the beginning of this race I would have gladly supported either candidate but the DNC let Hillary run the party into the ground and we now have to work twice as hard to beat McCain when had this been over with 6 weeks ago...........we could have literally waltzed into presidency!!

If the Democrats lose this year it will be because of the hard headed spiteful voters who get mad because their choice lost and they take their ball and go home.

There was a report on Yahoo news that the Clinton camp did NOT correctly report their debt totals. They failed to add the $5 million to the $10.00 DEBT total.

I'm not sure anymore what her exact debt is, but I know for a fact from my neice that it's a BIG problem, their in serious financial debt and the money raised in PA does even come close to wiping her debts if you add her April debts too.

Wow... that's scary.

A.A.B.   April 25th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Just as all of us get to cast our votes make our decisions for our own personal reasons so does Hillary's fundraiser. All of this nonsense is killing the party. I think some of these Super delegates should be ashamed of themselves. They know who they are leaning toward...you cannot tell me they are still confused who has a better change to beat McCain. If they are confused, why do we need them? The American people know who they are voting for, why do the Super delegates get to act like CEO's pretending to listen to the people. They need to come forth and offer support to whichever candidate so that the Democratic party does not become a laughing stock. And one more thing, I love all these Super's saying that this back and forth doesn't hurt the party. If Obama gets the nomination, Hillary supporters will be staying home. Same goes for a Hillary nomination. For a party that couldn't lose in November, we look sure to. I guess we can all pacify our frustration by watching McCain age for the next four years.

Calling these independent thinkers traitors is treating the Clintons like royalty. They are no musketeers and we are the U.S.A. They have every right to be loyal to our contry or the Dem Party before they are to the Clintons.

Look at what loyalty pays the black community by the Clintons.
Hillary knows she cannot be elected this time, but she wants to return in 2012 and it is more advantageous to her if Obama doesn't win this time. The Clintons have been dumping damage on Obama to such an extent that would outdo what the Republicans could have done.

It's all about me for the Clintons. They are programmed to do just one thing: Return to the White House, their House at all costs.

Jay W (Los Angeles)   April 25th, 2008 4:39 pm ET

Many Hillary supporters dont see the damage she is doing by continueing her campaign, SHE cannot win, it is hurting the democratic party, dividing the nation, and is fueling racial segregation.

it would be different if she campaigned without going negative, and keeping the issues at the forefront, but her stance is not to move the party forward together, but to keep it divided so no one is watching when the progression of the NAFTA superhighway is pushed down our throats through the back doors of SLICK WILLIE NEGOTIATIONS.

JOHN McCain if you love American and all of its people like you say, end the negative campaigning before the general.

"so ironic" –

yeah, you're right, Obama will win the contest as it is laid out. He won't try to change the rules and doesn't say something like "superdelegates shouldn't count" which I'm sure HRC would say if didn't have more of them. He's winning them largely BECAUSE he is winning the country overall. There wasn't too many supporting Gravel, now were there?

Obama can not win the general election.

I agree...THE CLINTONS are damaging the democratic Party. They are making it worst, She knows she has no way of winning and Wont give up. Sounds to me like someone Stubborn! The Attacks must stop, keep that in the Presidential race. DONT DIVIDE the party.

I regret my vote for Hillary! can we re vote in Wisconsin?

Patty   April 25th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

If he were a true Democrat first like he says, then he would realize that Obama is attracting blacks and young people, while not the rest of the true democratic base. But then it seems many feel they better back who they think might win rather than who should win.
I just watched CNN and the Governor of Oklahoma and Wolf and he said he is voting for Obama even though his state didn't is because superdelegates shold have a mind of their own and not have to follow what their constituency did. So please remember that, all you Obama folks who demand that superdelegates vote the way their state did, otherwise be prepared to give him up along with Kennedy, Kerry and Richardson. Or is it fair only if things work in your favor?

Cnn, please don't post this...but I have read the exact same comment from "ironic" who is a hillary suppoter three times, but I can hardly get one of mine posted.

If this is posted I am going to be upset because many of my other comments were more substantive and included good points.

Jus in case it goes through anyway...Bloggers, I know that many of you are not racist, but your comments imply a lack of understanding.

Peace Love Harmony   April 25th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

I am sure that this comment will be "screened out" by CNN but it is my duty to mention this anyway.

How on earth can an institution such as CNN allow such garbage as said by "sharon walker" (third comment in thread) to be posted for one and all to be seen.

I mean, there is "freedom of speech" and then there is slander. What are these people thinking? (or are they?)

Rob   April 25th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

LOL.....

Hillary is finished I"m sorry but she has people defecting now??

She wins PA starts off the lame 'OH I"M WINNING THE POPULAR VOTE' and now her campaign fund raisers are giving her the middle finger and defecting. I do not want this women any where near the white house. You friends are calling you out of your mind and you thinik I want you to have power of the direction this country goes for the next generation.

I don't have to say anything negative about Hillary Her friends do a better job...lol

SH   April 25th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

WEAK ! WEAK! WEAK! Just like everyone in the Obama camp. You belong with the team of Democrats that gave up the will and the fight in Florida. They allowed the Republican dominated state representives and Governor move up the primary and not allow the vote to count. We will roll over just like we did with Gore. Why won't Sen.Obama debate Sen. Clinton and why did he fight the Michigan revote. Weak!

sjrich   April 25th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Thank you sir for recognizing the need for the Democratic party to not only survive this primary but also to be able to grow itself and to win in the General Election.

A note to the Clinton supporters after reading the comments all along the Ticker.. what is wrong with all of you? Is your prejudice for the race of this man – and make no mistake, your prejudice is showing all over, is this fear of a man as President who is black, so much stronger than your desire to end a horrible war? So much stronger than repairing our economy? Do you not understand that Senator Clinton cannot win this nomination, short of wrecking the party... Democrats you seriously must overcome your prejudices.

Barb Canada   April 25th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

ugggghhh I'm a democrat first....Since when did being a democrat mean you have to turn on people around you? That comment certainly doesn't do any thing good for the Party!!!

great news guys   April 25th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I fail to see why and how Hillary is hurting the party by running... The primaries are not over yet... let's finish this and have a legitimate candidate. This is sort of a Democracy and we want to count as many votes as possible (NOT ALL THE VOTES CASTED, THAT WILL BE A SIN AND AGAINST THE SACRET RULES OF THE DNC). What many of you that are drunk on the Obama Kool-aid is that your candidate is not really swipping all of us like he does you personally. I for one a lifetime democrat will vote against him. TONE IT DOWN!!!

Change   April 25th, 2008 4:30 pm ET

The Clintons understand how to CHANGE from huge debt to surplus. This was demonstrated during Bill Clinton's administration when everyone was lifted up. Hillary wants to CHANGE health care more than Obama. Hillary proposes real CHANGE. It takes an insider with the will to change to bring change about. A newcomer is easily duped.

A campain is making efforts to register more people to the party, having meetings to raise more money for the party, the other (out of desparation) is busy shouting about debate after 21 debates and 45 contests. Won't the party members and leaders shine their eyes and see the handwriting on the wall.
Politics is a game of number and at this time the numbers are in Obama's side.

Obama Mama   April 25th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

If Bill Clinton was the kind of guy who could refrain from interjecting himself where he doesn't belong, maybe Obama WOULD think about putting Hillary on the ticket with him. But that's not going to happen, so for the good of the party and more importantly, the country, the Clinton hangers-on including James Carville, Lanny Davis and Ed Rendell should persuade their candidate to hang it up and cease her destructive strategy that is going to help John McCain. We don't need a president who thinks about herself – we have that already with Bush-Cheney. We need a president whose actions demonstrate that they put the American people first.

Get out, Hillary, while the getting is good.

Maxine   April 25th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

People are seeing the Clinton's for who they really are-power hungry at any cost. Including the democrate party.......there is no way if the shoe was on the other foot.....the dem party would allow Obama to say and do the things the Clinton's are doing. And I am sorry, I have been looking at past political races and this is bad...

Terrence W from NC   April 25th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

The ONLY WAY Obama loses the general would be due to the damage the CLINTON have done, not McCain. McCain's attacks are mild compared to the ones coming from fellow Democrats. Side by side Obama is a clear choice to McCain. The Clintons are trying to paint him as being a less powerful candidate. Notice how she couldn't STAND admitting on TV that "yes, YES YES. HE CAN WIN". That bit of truth probably burnt her tongue coming out.

The only thing that will stop the Clintons is running out of money...she has about $2M left, so they have their money back..no wonder she wants debates, she cannot pay for adds so she can have CNN/ABC? etc pay for her attack adds..thats why she wants debates people!! The Clintons rely on big donors, not the little guys. Perhaps another benefit concert? Bill is going to have give alot speaches.....

Wonder how much money she is getting from the nice CNN add they graciously sold her on their webpage?

A few weeks ago on the Chris Matthews show, a reporter indicated that some of Hillary's top advisors felt uncomfortable with her negative attacks on Obama. They believe it would hurt the democrats in November. If she continued with the attacks, they would leave her campaign. This is very important because her rheortic is unacceptable. People are tired of the attacks especially when she flip-flops on the issues such as CAFTA, NAFTA, Mark Penn , praising McCain etc. In addition, she is throwing the democrats under the bus by saying that McCain will be a better president than her own fellow democrat Obama. She also says that Gore and Kerry lost the election because they did not understand and respect the values of middle america. She has no respect for the democrats. Maybe she can return to her roots as a barry goldwater gal because she is running her campaign as a true republican.

Barb Canada   April 25th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Brian   April 25th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Debby, if Obama loses the general, that doesn't automatically mean that Billarity would have won. It just means (in my opinion) that Billarity stabbed the Democrats in the back and handed the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave to a Republican for 4, maybe 8 years.

To those who say that the Republicans will have a cadre of attacks ready for Obama, what do you think the Republicans have been getting ready for for the past two years? An even larger cadre of attacks for Billarity. There's a reason Limbaugh wants Billarity to win the nomination; she's (very) easy to beat. She says that a Dem can't win the general without the big states. Well, a Dem can't win the general when they lose to the alternative in 2/3 of the primary contests.

Tom in MA   April 25th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Awesome!!!!!!!!!

There is still time for Hillary to exit with dignity. If she does it now, she can use the $$ she just raised to pay off her debts. Also, she can go out on her own terms after a victory rather than go out a loser after NC.

She has four choices:
1) Go out now on her own terms
2) Drop out after getting whipped
3) Be forced out by the superdelegate tide coming in 12 days
4) Be removed from the Convention floor in a straightjacket

The sooner the better, for the party and for the country.

Getting tired of this   April 25th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

To "isn't it ironic" (who keeps posting the same inane "ultimate irony" comment in multiple threads):

No, the ultimate irony for HRC supporters is that the very person who has been advocating for superdelegates to follow their conscience rather than their constituencies is losing super-delegates who are doing exactly that.

Even more ironic is that she said she'd have this wrapepd up by Feb 5. She said she could focus on big states and not small states. She came in as the inevitable candidate. And look at where she is now.

Now that's irony.

I am so sick of people saying, I am good friends with the Clintons and then pulling out on them. I am sorry to say this but Obama will not win the general election, get a life. WE ARE GIVING THE ELECTION TO THE REPUBLICANS. There is way too much baggage this man has and I think there will be much more before it is over. Traitor

so ironic   April 25th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

The ultimate irony for the Obama supporters (the smart, educated people) to ponder:

IF Obama is the democratic party nominee it will be because the Washington Insiders that he speaks against (Super delegates) GIVE it to him.

It will NOT be because he convinced the electorate with his inspiring message of hope and change.

Hillary Clinton has done as well without the hype of hope and the media bias and the celebrity bandwagon.

Chrishton (Houston)   April 25th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

Way to go Mr. Guerra-Mondragon, all of the Obama supporters appreciate your honesty and wisdom. The Clinton's are trying to destroy the Democratic Party, I wish like hell I hadn't voted for Bill Clinton, and I WILL NEVER vote for his wife, EVER!!!!!!!!

Huckabee's last few weeks are pretty much identical to Clinton's campaign right now...even winning the "rural voters" she is carrying which I believe are primarily older voters with less access to information in our technology driven society. Her fuzzy math path is wasting a lot of money and energy.

To bad for Mrs. Clinton...lol

OCA   April 25th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Good for you. Given the way Bill Richardson was treated a brave decision but the right one.
No one said it would be easy to break a 20 year quasie monarchy hold on the whitehouse by two families one of which is striving for another 8. The Obama campaign is not about win at any price, do what ever it takes to win, and if need be, destroy your opponent in the process. Make Promise’s you know you can not keep to win. Real change means just that. A new appraoch, a new fresh set of ideas, a new person, someone who can bring us all together not tear us apart.
We live in a republic not a monachy. Do we want 28 years and two families in the whitehouse? Is that a solution that can drive democratic change?
Talking points will not change the reality. The rules, the math, the calandar does not lie and can not be changed. Obama will have won more pledged delegates, more states and more votess. He should expect the remaining superdelegates to vote for him accordingly. They will.

Debby   April 25th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

Good work, it's always nice when somebody sees the light, admits they made a mistake, and corrects it.

Hillary is wasting the party's time. She was never even remotely electable against a Republican, given the crazy hatred they bear for the Clintons. It's not all her fault, because she is smart and capable, but her candidacy has been a stillbirth since it was first announced... and now the party's getting torn apart over something that was a bad idea to begin with.

Glad the fundraisers are wising up.
