Obama campaign makes general election plans

(CNN) - In the wake of his Pennsylvania loss, Barack Obama’s campaign has revealed two major steps towards a general election operation – both usually undertaken by presumptive presidential nominees.

On Friday, the campaign officially announced an ambitious, 50-state voter registration program designed to boost Democratic registration – already reaching record levels in many states – with an eye towards November.

On the conference call discussing the effort, Deputy Campaign Manager Steve Hildebrand confirmed a report on The Page that the Obama team had entered into a joint fundraising operation with the Democratic National Committee.

The DNC could use the help. In a year when most Democratic campaign committees are vastly out-raising their Republican counterparts, the DNC – which had a little more than $5 million cash on hand, according to its most recently filed Federal Elections Commission report – is lagging far behind a cash-rich Republican National Committee’s $31 million war chest.

John McCain has launched a similar fundraising partnership with the RNC – but it did not debut until after he became the presumptive GOP nominee.

Hildebrand also said that Hillary Clinton’s campaign had held similar discussions with the national party, although the two sides had yet to come to an agreement.

“It is something that we are moving forward with and as we understand it the D.N.C. has initiated those conversations with the Clinton campaign as well.”

Joint committees are usually formed after there is a de facto nominee. In contrast to the strict fundraising limits imposed on the candidates, parties are able to raise more than 10 times as much – allowing them to assume some election-related activities and costs that would otherwise be undertaken by the campaign.

Hillary any advice how to make millions? I have three investment accounts. I don't want to depend on the government when I retire because I want the best possible care until my last breath.

I hope you win because my 401k did pretty during your husband's presidency!

Do they attack politicians in other countries the way we do here? Does Europe launch hateful remarks like spit wads? We seem to relish in the fact that we can. And this act of dismemberment is poised under the art of free speech. What a crock. The campaign season has become so bleak and heartless that it doesn't matter who takes the nomination. We have actively and aggressively searched and destroyed all candidates so there is not a proud vote for any of them. It has taken me a long time to reenter politics because I have lived through five decades of this crap. I came back because of Obama, but thanks to the media, and all those who seem hell-bent to show him in unfavorable light, I will silently retreat again. If picking apart a person's life from the time they take their first breath until they move their cardboard boxes into the White House is what it takes to pick a leader, the system is archaic.

The Super Delegates are smart enough to know the most important poll result:

If over half of the people polled find Hillary Clinton Unreliable then half of the people will probably deem her unelectable. That's the bottom line. Lies that appear to be lies and not misspoken cause a candidate to blow her chance. Obama did not do this, the party did not do this, and the press did not do this. Hillary trashed her campaign on her own. All the rest of the dirt she is covered in just made the decision that much easier.

All of this fighting has been caused by Hillarys fighting machine and complete lack of integrity. If she is the nominee McCain's got my vote.

It doesn't matter whether you like Obama or that you will not vote for him come the general election, the fact remains, he has more delegates, (and they're leaving Clinton everyday. Did you hear about the lastest one. Her fundraiser has left her and gone with Obama.),
he has won more states, he has the popular vote(even with FL she'll still be behind). And you talk about owing people and buying votes. Here are the lobbyist she owes
Senator Hillary Clinton has taken over $800,000 from lobbyists, more money than any other candidate — Republican or Democrat:
    Over $130,000 from energy lobbyists
Over $130,000 from drug company lobbyists
Over $125,000 from health care and insurance lobbyists.”
    Energy: $442,800
    Pharmaceuticals/health products: $450,450
Hospitals, health services/HMOs and insurance companies: $552,050
    Health professionals: $114,755.
And for you who say if she doesn't win you'll vote for McCain. Ditto. If Hillary manages to steal the election most blacks, single moms, young voters, new voters and independents will vote for McCain.

I will definately be supporting BHO again this payday. The way I see it, if Hillary was in the position BHO is now in, they would be asking (ordering) him to drop out! She's a huge distraction on what he really needs to be dealing with at this point (ie. confronting McCain, laying out his policy vision for the people of the United States and international friends and foes. I pray that God will help him and keep him safe from all the snares of the hateful, arrogant, presumptious and proud. I pray that the Lord will guide his steps and his decisions and bring healing and hope to this hurting nation. I hope, above all, that the damage initiated and inflicted on innocents in NYC, NY, Washington D.C, Shanksville, PA and Afganistan and Iraq by the United States Military Industrial Complex will be brought to account.

Even if Obama lost to McCain, the Dems would win because he will help the party succeed down ballot whereas Hillarys negatives would not. A huge dem majority in the congress and the senate is what is required to make positive change. The Clintons have always damaged the party to benefit themselves while Obama is a proven plus for democrats everywhere.

Susan MO, my God woman. Please wake up and pay attention. Education is not a tool of the devil. Obama NEVER EVER EVER insulted anyone in PA. All you have to do is learn to read and maybe have some basic intelligence to understand exactly what he was saying. You make yourself sound completely ignornant. All he said is that if you get lied to enough from politicians for so many years about how they are going to help your pocketbook you eventually realize they are not going to do anything for your wallet so you might as well vote for the guy you know is going to protect something else that is important to you. If you are an abortion person you will vote for the Dem, if you have guns they have been brainwashed that you vote Rep. Oh forget it, even this version of it is probably too difficult for you to understand. Let me make this easy. People with higher education vote for Obama. They are smarter than you. You should at least be able to figure out to do what smart people say is best for you. No work involved in it even.

Its a shame how threatened this country is by having a woman as president. Hillary has far more experience and knowledge and has already ran the white house before. Our country never had it so good since the Clintons were in office and you know it!!!

Really there are some smart people commenting but there are those who have their heads in a major cloud and cannot see the light of day.

This whole election has shown me how narrow minded Americans are and no matter what anyone says RACE is playing a major role in the way the voting is going. But everyone fails to realize that Obama is half white and was raised in a white family.

Also if the DNC has gone along with this plan it only indicates to me precisely that he is going to be the overall winner. So all those who feel that Hilary is gonna win watch out.

If they give Hilary over Obama especially when he is leading yall might as well say hello to another 4 years of Bushism cause I can tell you this much the African Americans will not vote for Hilary and they are a large population ground that got Bill in the White House and that same group will keep Hilary out.

So yall decide. I wish you all would take the time and learn about the candidates versus listening to what the media has said. It just seems those that spute nonsense regarding Obama the words used are those of Hilary's which means you are narrow minded and not looking at both side.

I use to like Hilary but she has turned me off completely with all her hate mongering over the last couple of weeks. When she was ahead she was running a deciet campaign but since she became negative she has plummetted to the bottom and she is having one hell of a time trying to scrape herself up because everytime she things that she has gone ahead she gets knocked down but that is what happens when you are DISHONEST AND A LIAR.

I read recently that there is a fraud case upcoming that involves Paul and the Clintons yall are not looking at all that so basically yall will accept a fraud, liar and a dishonest person as president, a person who cannot even handle her own campaign funds how is she gonna handle the american budget.

Come on people open your eyes and smell the coffee

You all must be brainless that is the ones supporting Obama . This guy has not been tested, has no great national or international experience. Talks a bunch but never gives details. You know why, it's because he has to wait to pick people smarter than him who will hopefully tell him the wise things to do. A bag is no good, if it is empty. We need people like either McCain or Clinton. They may each have their baggae but they have been tested, vetted and all their dirt is out for the looking. God only know what is hiding in Obama's closet. If he is the democratic nominee, I will vote for Mcain. I do not want to endure another 4 or 8 yrs of an inexperienced guy who has voted "maybe" 130 times. No room for maybe's at 1600 Pennsylvannia Ave.

IF YOU ARE THE NOMINEE I want to know what you intend to do to bring us Hillary supporters into the fold. We are the Democratic base and it would be a shame to leave us out of the planning as we know that the young, the independents and the new folks are fickle and will not be around for long!

    Still Hillary for 2008/2012>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The DNC and the superdelegates are already on board ship obama, it's just a matter of time before they give hillary the boot. The clinton's need to realize that all there underhanded tactics to steal the nomination will not work, and even if they do manage to win in indiana, they will lose
NC, and that will be the final nail in the coffin. Think about it. The clintons brought race into the election to tear down obama, but they did it too late. Maybe if they launched their plan to destroy the party earlier, they could have stopped obama from getting the pop lead, the delegate lead, most states won, but they didn't do it vigorously enough. Now there trying to pull out all the stops, and though it might have worked in penn, and even though there will be a new spell of pastor wright, and tony rezco the damage is already done. Obama will be the nominee, so hillary will just have to work hard to sabotage his general election campaign so she can run in 2012..

    go obama
