here in MD you have to present your ID to vote. I believe this is a good safeguard to make sure that the people voting are registered. As for people not being able to get an ID, My mother-in-law is 87 and she has had a state ID forever. Everyone can get an ID it doesn't cost much and it's good to have one. Suppose someone falls ill? or has a heart attack away from home? They can be identified and their family called because they have an ID

Rut-ro, Raggie! If voters have to start providing a photo ID, this spells DOOM for Democrats. I mean, really... how will all those dead people and illegal aliens vote if they have to produce an ID?

Anyone who cannot produce the documents to prove legal status should not be voting. Period. Voting is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. The process SHOULD be inconvenient, so that you'll stick it out and take your vote seriously. Anything in life that is too easily obtained won't hold much value and will be regarded in a frivolous manner.

What is the problem with showing ID to vote. This should have been a requirement all along. There are several things you are not allowed to do without some sort of ID like cash a check. What is the problem with this. I don't see any.

Anyone who claims this is some crazy burden on voters is crazy!! Anyone who lives in this country legally should have an I.D. You can't pay with a credit card or check most places if you don't have one. You also need one to fly so are we disenfranchising travelers. Give me a break!

When I went to vote for my first time this primary season I was shocked that they didn't ask me for my ID or ANYTHING! I could have been anyone. Why doesn't the government simply furnish voters with an ID when they get registered? Your state issued identification could even have a symbol on it saying you're registered, like the pink organ donor sticker on many licenses. It also would make sense to prove you are in fact a citizen in order to register. At the moment, all you need to do is sign something promising you are. This all leaves way too much room error/fraud.

This is and always was a Republican ploy. It is funny we are worried about election fraud by an individual voting who is not eligible however we allow electronic voting machines to have no paper trail. There is way more evidence of manipulation of elections by voting machine manipulation than by ID fraud. I challenge anyone to document that there has been a significant number of cases to justify such a law. It is clearly designed to discriminate against those who might vote Democratic (poor, elderly, minorities).

Can Republicans just try to win fairly (No they know they can't win without deception, disenfranchisement and corruption).

Yes, it's a good idea – but in 47 years of voting in Baltimore and upstate NY, I have rarely had to do anything but give my name and address verbally – often pointing them out myself on the the list of voters.

As noted above, being out-of-state in college I never had a photo ID. And 10 years ago my elderly blind mother never did either, until I insisted.

This time frame is ridiculous.

I live in Virginia and we have to show a picture ID to vote. It's never been a problem and it helps prevent fraud.

Ah, yes another thing that is ruled contitutional, even though it isn't. I hope everyone appreciates the fact that democrats will lose votes now. Remember everyone, we do not live in the golden city. There are poor people, elderly people who can't get around, legal immigrants who don't know they need to get a voter ID. I guess all men (women) are created equal (as long as they have the money for an ID card to vote for people who may not vote to make people buy IDs). I love hearing our founding fathers' graves being stompped upon.

I have no problems with the the laws requiring a photo id to vote but allowances need to be built in to protet the rights of poor or low income individuals and college students. Most college ids do not list an actual address and the students drivers license may be from out of state. States requiring thses ids need to have a low or no cost voter photo id.

OK..on a voting registration you need to state either your licsens # or the last 4 digits of your social security number....
A picture ID is not required

but if that is Indiana's law

For the thousandth time, Barack Obama is NOT a Muslim! I am very confused on how people can derile Obama because of his Christian pastor, then also talk about Islam taking over the United States. If you need to go after religion, at least get your facts straight.

I am disgusted with how uninformed people are these days (or how willing people are to ignore the facts). Instead of IDs required before voting, I propose people take a quiz about government before voting. I talked to a woman who said she was a Republican because she was Pro-Choice. That is about as misinformed as you can get.

The comments on here are completely fascinating. Some people are so wrapped up in their candidate or hatred for the opposition, that they can't see things for what they are. The supposedly open, peaceful, uniting, educated, upscale Obama supporters actually write that Hillary is trying to get this to happen. They don't see that this is beneficial towards Obama. They just read something, see it as possibly negative and start playing the blame game. Rational thinking has gone completely out the window. It's always attack and tear down the opponent.

What is wrong with I.D. to prove you live in the state that you are voting in; most people have a drivers license or they can use a hydro or gas bill in their name with their I.D until official membership cards with a picture on it can be established in all states.

After all that is the democratic way, one vote per citizen.......

How many political supporters could easily flood the voting booths. There is nothing wrong with getting a picture taken of yourself when you go to register as a Republican a Democrat or an Independent.

Especially for the General Elections, they only happen every four years and so that picture should be good for four years and could also cover all over elections in that state.... EXCELLENT IDEA!

This is an outrage. This decision has just disenfranchised hundreds of minorities, senior citizens who no longer drive and many poor people who don't own a car and therefore don't have driver's licenses.

This is not Democracy. This is truly just another trick to depress the vote from minorities, senior citizens and poor people.

Anyone who agrees with this decision better read the Constitution and understand how un-American they are in their beliefs.

The People complaining really have nothing to complain about. This is perfectly reasonable and disenfrancises NO ONE!!! It does not take long to get a state ID. It took me less than 20 minutes to get mine here in PA.

Do not have one? Go get one. Everyone should have ID on them anyway.
