(CNN) —
Barack Obama would not say Monday whether he thought fresh headline-grabbing statements from his former minister, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, could harm his presidential bid – and continued his effort to distance himself from the pastor’s controversial comments.

“I think certainly what the last three days indicate is that we're not coordinating with him,” he laughed. “He's obviously free to speak his mind, but I just want to emphasize he is my former pastor.

“Many of the statements he made both to trigger this initial controversy, and that he's made over the last couple days are not statements that I heard him make previously. They don't represent my views and they don't represent what this campaign is about. But he's obviously free to make those statements.”

This old man is working my last nerve!

Is he trying to sabotage Obama? Why not just come out and apologize and say he made the statements in anger and frustration? He is human, albeit a pastor….he is allowed to make mistakes. I think people would respect him more.

Rev. Wright Is NOT Running 4 Office   April 28th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

Seems some Americans forget the Wright to 'Freedom of Speech'
Now who's running for office again? I thought it was Sen. Obama!
Unless Sen Obama was on that pulpit SAYING those things then I dont give a rats patootie what his Rev. said!
Can't find anything worthwile on Obama so they spin and spin and spin!
No worried Hillarious Rotten Clinton cannot and will not win!

NO MORE OBUMA!   April 28th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

I WILL not vote for obuma. I regret that I voted for him CT primary.
Wright is very arrogant. he was smiling during his speeches. He's not a man of GOD! He's divisive like Obama.

linda   April 28th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

When did Americans become so closed minded? I am really getting concerned. And also, when did we become puppets to the media? It is as if we can no longer think for ourselves. We know that the media puts their own spin on stuff, lets not act like that is a big surprise. That is why is is important to research issues for yourself!

I used to be a Democrat   April 28th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

Fomer Pastor?

You really are out of touch, Obama.

tttttTruth be told   April 28th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

tell me something you all want to take Jarimiah Wright words and put them in Senator Obama's mouht. You alos act as thought you have never in your life heard anything as defensive as what Jeramiah said. You also refuse to look at what he has said in full context which means you all are very small minded and already has a pointed view.
The news media refused to put the context of the message on air it has brainwashed a many people -cnn, msnbc, cnbc, Hannity and Colmes, Glen Beck you name it the list could go on. This election this year has been torn apart. All parties involved have been sprewing ignorance. at this point I am so tired of all this maddness and hypocrosy. This november I believe I will stay at home and let the maddness continue How ever this shoe ends it will be what it will be. Most of our lives will go on the same for the most part anyway this stuff has just gotten so out of hands i don't want any part of it.

scared   April 28th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

At what point is the New media going to get the fact that Mr Obama is a Politician a different type but he is one and Rev Wright is a Pastor. Rev Wright is free to speak and say what he wants. And if the media stop giving him air time then we can focus on the real problem like gas price, food price etc.

Mr. Obama all you need to do is stay on message do not feed into the media about Rev Wright. I heard what you have to say about the matter and I for one is behind you.

YES WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE IN WASHINGSTON POLITICS!!!!!

well. it would seem once again obama is being honest about a shady individual.

If anything that's gonna sink Obama, it's going to be his honesty and transparency. Well good for him

Better to loose by being honest than to win by being a liar.

aliou   April 28th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Does anyone know what church McCain and Hilary are members of ?

Give me a break. this is pure racism and don't come yealing at me. I am a white person. I 've been to black churches and white churches. they preach the same sermon he did, only for different audiences and their message is the same.

Joseph, Los Angeles California   April 28th, 2008 6:36 pm ET

Pastor Wright is an American who has the right to speak his mind like the rest of us on these blogs, and boy I have read some dozzies if not downright hateful stuff. I think Mr. Obama is an honest man which is a far cry from what we've had in the White house the last 16 years. I know a lot of people who's views I don't share, but we get along based on that little thing called humanity and ability to have an intelligent discussion about our different ways of looking at things. Yeah, the Pastor is being a bit selfish, but he doesn't sway me away from casting a vote for real change.

gary   April 28th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

YOUR RIGHT O.B. HE CAN SPEAK HIS MIND. YOU ARE ANTI JUST LIKE HIM. DONT BULL—-. THE COUNTRY. BE A MAN WHICH ITS HARD FOR YOU TO DO, AND ADMITT YOU FOLLOW HIS CUTRAL SERMONS AND LIVE BY IT. AMERICA IS SO OUT OF TOUCH TO EVEN LET YOU IN THIS RACE. HOW LONG DID YOU RESEARCH THE BLACK VOTE BEFORE YOU DECIDED TO RUN. THIS IS THE MOST RACIEST RACE FOR A PRESIDENT I HAVE EVER SEEN. THERE IS MORE HATE AND DIVISION OF A COUNTRY TOO. YOU SURE HAVE BROUGHT A CHANGE. GOD HELP THIS COUNTRY FOR ANYMORE CHANGES FROM YOU.

DAN   April 28th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

It sounds more like Obama has been speaking Wrights mind, hearing Wright speak on cnn I could almost hear Obama ,except now we know what this change is all about. It's about an old pastor who's hate has grown into a dictator style minister and decided to blame white people and goverments, This is certainly not about change and hope it sounds more like revenge.

Polly Perez   April 28th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I was considering Obama at one time but I think the Reverend Wright story is huge. I myself would never go to a church where I didn't agree with my pastor, who would? Barack has been supporting this man for 20 years! It has put doubts where I didn't have them. I think the Democrat party needs to rally behind Hillary. Imagine losing to McCain and if you don't think the republicans are going to play this up then you have another thought coming.

holly   April 28th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

If Jeramiah Wright was a comedian, no one would pay him any mind. I saw his speech as being hysterical. I laughed because to me, it was funny. I even had phone calls during the speech from my 77 year old father, where he was laughing stating that "the man is crazy"(in a funny way). My dad grew up in Mississippi and he knows by living in it what racism REALLY is. The stuff that Rev Wright talks about to make his point practically do not exist anymore, so why are people upset. Old time black preachers scream, holler, and say…stuff. He is light weight compared to some black churches and I hope that the American people can see that he is as harmless as we want him to be. He can only have an affect if people let him have an affect. Just sit back and enjoy the show!…OBAMA08!!!

Julie.   April 28th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Have I heard any of these statements NO, well YES, well no ,But if I had, I would of left, well I would have left if he , but he left , yes I heard them , no I didn't hear those statements. OH PLEASE.

OBAMA IS NOT ELECTABLE. I dont think I care about Wright anymore, but I'm very tired of the lies that fall so easy from Obamas mouth!

Ivan, Schiff   April 28th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Obama is between a rock and a hard place with regard to Rev. Wright.
By not severing all connections with Rev. Wright from the beginning, doing that now will look as an action of convience, not one of conviction.

Tom,des moines   April 28th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

I know it generates ratings, but history will not look favorably on the media's role is enabling Hillary's attempted theft of the nomination.

Jason in Tacoma   April 28th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

It appears to me Rev. Wright suffers from integration anxiety.
Why else would he act in a manner that hurts Obama's campaign and interpret the reactions to his surmon as an attack on the "Black Church"?
Perhaps someone needs to tell him it's okay for things to get better. He's like the war veteran who still fights the war, years after it's end.
Not to say racism doesn't exist, but he shouldn't hang onto it for the sake of maintaining his identity. He should stop, shut up, and take a long look around and perhaps remove a piece of armor.

lol   April 28th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

obama's correct wright is free to speak his mind, just like obama was free to stay a member of this church for over 2 decades. how much of this ideology do the obama's share with the reverend? if they didn't agree with the man, than why would you stay for over 20 years.

I watched everything he has said yesterday and today and I did not find one lie. Maybe I missed something.

Please correct me if the man lied about anything.

obama is for all the people and is willing to bring change to america and lead us positively into the future, obviously rev wright is for rev wright in doing whatever he wants to help sell perhaps a future book but clearly he is not acting in senator obama's interest so i hope america feels these actions of wright prove the distance and difference shared between obama and wright. Lets move forward and say yes to obama!

obama 08

vivian   April 28th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

No matter how much you try to distance Rev Wright from your campaign he is a shadow you will not be able to erase. His words resemble the words of Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, Fidel Castro, Hamas, Acevdeo Vila from Puerto Rico, and many other world leaders that are waiting for you to be president so that they can destroy this country.

Hey USMarine in the above post. Rev. Wright served with honor in the Marines for six years. Don't be so quick to judge him. Semper Fi.

maurine   April 28th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

when rev wright didn't comment you kept playing the lies in that sound bite that was taken out of context. now he has spoken there is something wrong with that also. you are the ones who should be saying you are sorry, for not playing the full speech and letting the american public judge for themselves. we are not that dumb.

dwc   April 28th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I think this IS a strategy between Wright and Obama. Funny he says, " you can see we are not coordinating with him." As they say in the movies, this is to easy, too pat. This way, Obama can distance himself from current remarks and take the heat off of his 20 years when he listened to other remarks. After seeing how Obama's campaign started the whole race thing, I don't put anything past his campaign.

Garnet, Shawnee   April 28th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I just heard on Democracy Now( the news media) that my government probably going to bomb Iran, and all of the corporate news media can talk about is a preacher who lives in America, served his country, and has witnessed some of the atrocities that this government has done, and NOTHING about the FOUR soldiers that were killed today, not to mention those that were injured. Boy wouldn't it be nice if this corporate news media could report the news, and leave the gossip to the soaps?

no longer supporting clinton   April 28th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

going to a church even for 20 years does not mean that u always agree with what the minister is talking about, and just because u have been a member for 20 or 30 years like i have at my church in the state of georgia does not mean that u are there all the times that church is in service. there are other churches that i attend on a regular basis instead of my on church were my membership is at. i believe that all of this fuss about rev. wright being a reflection of what obama thinks and believes is politics that is trying to scare people into voting for that hypocrite hillary or the republican party. i have looked at all three individuals and i changed my mind from one individual and came to the conclusion that obama is by far the best person for the job. when u look at the way that things are going in america and the world, how divided that this country is and the constant wars that are being fought everyday on this small planet of ours that we call earth, we need a person who believes in hope and change and who has the courage to help bring this about is obama.

Daryl from Seattle   April 28th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I heard a rock star said hateful things about America in an interview, like racism still exists, we shouldn't have gone into Iraq, and slavery was a bad thing. So un-American! I also heard Obama is a fan of that rock star……..therefore, he MUST be un-American too!!!

Ladyleo   April 28th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Why is Rev Wright an issue for Obama? I don't go to church for political advice nor do I contact my congressman for religious advice. They have nothing to do with each other. I am turning this over to GOD and let him work this out,.

Kim   April 28th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

The Shameless Hillary monster sacrifices Rev. Wright like a Judas. This after Rev. Wright was the Pastor the Clintons chose to help them through the Billary Clinton sex scandel. Rev. Wright was an honored guest at the Clinton white house and now Hillary betrays him for a few sleazy votes.

Canadian Neighbour   April 28th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

"but I just want to emphasize he is my former pastor." My how quick Obama's affections change!

His reference to He Is Like an Uncle to me, his statement He inspired me, His Gratitude that HE brought him back to his religion, His Proud referene to the fact that HE married us and baptized our children, His admission to Wright as His Mentor, has all been REDUCED to Wright is now ONLY HIS Former Pastor! Is Wright now his Former Uncle too? I guess Wright has been excommunicated from Obama's family and is no longer someone whom Obama will not denounce! Politics sure has a way of diminishing one's loyalties! I guess like George Bush said, "If Your Not With Me, Your Agains Me! Wright has been removed from the Obama List Titled, People Who Can Foster My Presidential Nomination!

Burt, IN   April 28th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Obama always refers to Wright as his "former minister". Wright retired about 3 weeks ago and Obama instantly added "former" to his comments. I agree that Obama is not Wright but he is very close to him and has been for 20 years. Before the chickens came home to roost, Obama referred to Wright as his "spiritual advisor" and "mentor" and took the title for one of his books from a sermon Wright delivered. Wright was a member of his campaign (advisor on religious affairs or something similar) until the uproar caused Wright to leave. Obama lied to us when Wright's racism and anti-American views were made public by telling us that, in the 20 years he sat in that church, he had never heard Wright say anything that was racist or against the U.S. No one believes him.

Susan MO   April 28th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Why do you consistently refer to Rev. Wright as Obama's ex-pastor? He's name is Jeremiah Wright NOT Obama's ex-pastor! Obama and Rev. Wright have both attempted to distance themselves from each other, BUT you keep attaching Barack Obama to the Rev. Wright. When you reference Rev. Wright's comments, say "Rev. Wright," NOT "Obama's ex-pastor!"

Nanc, MN   April 28th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

rcf   April 28th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Did anyone listen to the introduction of Reverend Wright? This is a man who has done a lot of good. This is a man who did NOT seek deferrments from military duty. He served his country. This is a man who did NOT dodge his military duty.
All in all it boils down to a simple fact - Obama was the golden boy until it became "OMG he might win!" The 'good ole boys' would rather have a shrill voiced, lying, untrustworthy woman then an African-American in the White House.
It is going to be interesting to watch and see what snippets will be taken from Reverend Wright's speech to use against Obama, in spite of Soledad O'Brien's efforts to show and speak of how it really was.

RATINGS   April 28th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

The media wants this primary to go on for ratings. There is no possible way for HIllary to win…or catch up. So why are we giving additional hope to these clinton fans. Obama has won 30 of the last 42 states….yes 30. He is poised to win NC and possibly Indiana. He has more votes and delegates.

She needs to win every state by 65%…yes 65% to at least break even. She has not done that yet. So why is she staying in. She is in for her own political gain to run in 4 years.

So, democratic party. Tell the pundits, talking heads and media to stop looking for ratings.

God Bless America.

Mike   April 28th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

After watching Rev. Wrights speech to the NAACP. I can see why Obama enjoyed his sermons. I am a middle aged white police officer and I found Rev. Wrights speech to be brilliant, insightfull and inspiring. I urge everone to find this speech and listen to it in it's entirety. It will change your mind about this man and turn you off to the intolerant comments of Hillary, McCain, Limbaugh and Beck.

Shiloh Wa   April 28th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

US Marine - Rev. are usually still listed as senior Pastors when they retire just like Tenured Professors are still Tenured Professors when they retire. Rev. Wright can say what he wants and the media is feeding into his obvious ego-centrism. I don't beleive he is at all representitive of Obama or most Black Churchs. I think he has lost his way and we should pray for him because the Holy Spirit is not who's guiding him–in my opinion.

I am so sick of this. It's like banging your head against a wall and not expecting it to eventually hurt. The opinions of voters are not based on what Rev. Wright says or does. People who like Obama are going to vote for Obama regardless of Rev. Wright or any other issue Hillary or McCain dredges up. People who are dismayed or swayed against Sen. Obama because of Rev. Wright are ONLY doing so, because they needed an excuse or do not want to appear different than those whom they live with, work with, and or socialize with, who may be Obama supporters. They are cowards, racist, or bigots. These are Clinton and McCain supporters. Not independents or unsure voters!

Be careful, Obama. Don't sell your soul to the devil just to get elected. There was nothing in Wright's last two speeches that you can argue with. His delivery style is what is making everyone nervous. When you read the transcripts, the words don't seem so explosive. Wright speaks factually abouts America's history regarding the treatment of Black people. White people just don't like to be reminded about what they have done to non-whites in the country and abroad.

Big John   April 28th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

This country was founded on free speech. If the "CLINTON NEWS NETWORK" thinks it's more important to focus on a black pastor than the real issues than the network does so at their own peril.

How much is CNN making off of this prolonged, ugly, tired presidential race? CNN you greedy idiots!

JCB   April 28th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Wright's views may not be Obama's now, but the senator was a member of Wright's church for years — years!!!. Then the Rev. Wright was a member of Obama's campaign staff before he became controversial. So, I would say that Obama does have some of Wright's views about the U.S. (Michelle certainly does!) It's just not politically expedient right now to admit to them.

I think it is good to know that Wright is a black racist — and Obama was his follower! Now we know why members of the Obama campaign staff and his followers have pressured blacks to vote for him becasue he is black — not because he had the needed credentials.

immigrant   April 28th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Rev Wright and people like him are the reason why American black community is not able to be the part of the main-stream America.

Rev Wright : you haven't seen the reality of the World, your message is all about hate and fear.

Why do you have so much of hate in your heart about Europeans ? Keep some love in a corner fo your heart, you will feel better.
You may have learnt from your Arabic friends those Koranic phrases, but do you know "Hussein" is a popular Muslim name ?

You said you are not a Politician, but you sounded very much like the one in NAACP podium.

As an immigrant, I am proud to be in America that has provided me with an opportunity to grow. You should be positively guiding your church people, who are quite fortunate to have born and grown in America, and not in Africa or Asia.

Africa : were you born there, or your grandfather ? You don't even know the plight of Africans, so leave that sad part, and try to utilize your time uniting your community together with American main-stream, there are many people like me in America who will love and welcome your move.

Amin.

Kay Lani Ray Rafko   April 28th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Wright coming out is a no winning situation for Obama. If it’s true he never heard of Wright’s anti American stands for 20 years one has to question Obama’s awareness and judgment. If he knew of Wrights hate speeches and denied it then it comes down to just plain lying and serious lack of character.

Barack Is Worth The Fight   April 28th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

There are so many people out to destroy Barack Obama. So much so , that they had to go to his church and attack his pastor. It won't work because if Barack goes, there is NO hope for change in Washington. There is NO hope for having someone in the White House who will do something to change this quagmire that we're in. We will have to rely on a man who cares about nothing else except expanding the war, and a woman who can't remember one lie from the next.

I'd say Barack's nomination is worth fighting for–and we will win.

Rob- BC Canada   April 28th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Honestly I support Obama but this guy Wright is either really really selfish by using his fifteen minutes of national fame to send whatever message he is sending OR he is working for the republicans and/or clinton to sabotage Obamas campaign because Obama would be the best president. When i use the term "best" it doesnt mean best ever or perfect but would do better things for the country than McBush or Clinton would do simply because he would shake things up and change the course of Bush…Clinton…Bush….Clinton….Im bored this hasnt worked

Raphael Tx   April 28th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Jerimiah Wright is also your former employee as well. America do not forget that Jerimiah Wright was a Spiritual Advisor on Baracks campaign for more than a year until his sermon made headline news.

If you look at their comments they are one in the same.
Wrights comments," The Govt created AIDS to infect African Americans."

Obamas comments, "Small town Americans are bitter and cling to guns, religion and hatred when things go wrong." "Typical white Person"

Do you see the similiarities in their Ideolgy. Is this what you want in the White House?
Pretty soon Wright is going to come out with a conspiracy theory why we call it the "White House"
They are both so way out of touch with reality.

Hillary please win and stop the nonsense.

Trang, Fremont, CA   April 28th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Of course, Wright is free to speak his mind, especially after how the media distort his message.

Don't worry, senator Obama. You offered great hope to this country, but sometimes the country is blinded by fear, they cannot see. I hope there are more enlightened people out there. We shall see.

Be the decent person that you are. This country would be blessed if they choose you. The media is pressuring you to reject/denounce Wright if you are to have any chance. You can put it to them like this - being a Christian, I make my pledge to love my fellow man - and that includes Wright, even though we disagree at times. So, your view has nothing to do w/ Wright, but more to do w/ trying to live in a more Christian way.

Big John   April 28th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

I watched the Rev. Wright sermon three times. As CNN continues to play it every other hour. I can see where Sen. Obama has been schooled in how to give a charismatic, powerful oratory. My favorite part of the sermon was when Rev. Wright spoke on immigration. As a Native American man I stood up and cheered when he mentioned Native Americans as the original inhabitants of this land.

There is much that white America simply does not comprehend about both the African-American community and the Native American community. Rev. Wright is not some hate-monger. He is a colorful, intelligent and honest man. He speaks of change in America, he has lived through apartheid, he remembers how his people were treated, like us Native Americans, with indignity and disrespect by white America.

It's time America wakes up and sees this country through the eyes of it's most mistreated peoples. Sen. Obama gave an eloquent interview with Fox's Chris Wallace on Sunday. It gave me hope that America is a country that will make amends to it's indigenous people and the people who were brought to this country involuntarily, as slaves.

The Rev   April 28th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

I listened to Reverend Wright, and he had some good things to say. I am an Obama supporter and I really did not want to hear him, but he candidate, but he had some interesting things to say. It's too bad that the media has painted him as a monster. So now he has to speak.

Thank God I have a mind and am not easily persuaded one way or the other. It's all a game of politics and because Barack's opponents couldn't find an angry black man in him, they went to his fire and brimstone church.

Sad, but I'm not buying it. Barack will be our next president.

DROP OUT NOW OBAMA>>>GO AWAY!

Kay Lani Ray Rafko   April 28th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

At the Press Club Conference, Wright threaten Obama when he said “I said to Barack Obama last year If you get elected, November the 5th I'm coming after you, because you'll be representing a government whose policies grind under people.” What does this mean? This is really weird, odd and kind of scary. Why didn’t Obama take this threat seriously? Why he didn’t address this before? This is a serious and odd development. It is obvious the Wright has a stronghold on Obama. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9912.html

USMarine   April 28th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Former Pastor? Jeramiah Wright is still listed as the senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ. Does anyone really think that Jeramiah Wright and Obama's church have separated?

Independent in Illinois   April 28th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

If Obama can't even persuade his former pastor to simply be quiet,
how can we expect him to " change the way Washington works " ?

Antoinette   April 28th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Basically

You cant shut him up. He has every right to defend himself over those soundbite clips

But at the same token, Obama distanced himself in March from the guy. Dont see the biggie

Boris   April 28th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

We should perhaps check on the views of Obama`s Barber and Doorman…

No Hillary   April 28th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Hey Pastor, while I respect you as a honest man that speaks out his mind, you seriously cause demage to Obama campaign - the only hope most of us Americans have to bring CHANGE to this country. So would you mind just shutting up your mounth?

America, America   April 28th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

If you are for Hillary and against Barack, it's easy to write the Reverend off. I, however don't believe that you are what your pastor says. I have a mind, my pastor has his mind, and we don't always agree. I go to learn about the bible, and that's it.

Carol   April 28th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Yes he does. And you have a right to run for and win this nomination.
Stick to the issues. Potential voters need to know what you plan to do about the environment, education, Iraq, healtc care, social security etc.

Obama '08

Duane A.   April 28th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Today's message to the reporters guild was long over due and I'd bet they won't set another MC up like that again for the question and answer session.

Timothy   April 28th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

I would love for the media to drop this story they continue to ride this dead horse. Even if Obama heard these comments I can not blame him nor anyone else for their comments know more than I blame John McCain for the comments his pastor and friend made regarding homosexuals. All those who point fingers at Rev. Wright and Mr. Obama will themselves be judge. Becareful, when that comment you made in the backroom, restroom or social setting about a woman, black or hispanic comes out. Then you too will be trying to explain yourself away.

Yes, the truth hurts especially when we have experienced bigotry. It has only been an issue because Sen. Obama is black and a presidential contender and these comments came from his former pastor. If he was only a senator the media nor the clintons would be concerned. America its time to forgive and move on. God still loves Rev. Wright and Sen. Obama it is you who have an issue forgiving and letting go.

The Rev Said Some Good Things   April 28th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Benjamin   April 28th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Just want to emphasize that he is my former pastor (of 20 years), and had I not known he was going to retire, I would have stopped going to his church (for 20 years).

I care deeply about the people that surround the President of the United States, and are spiritual guiders, and have positions on their campaigns.

Jerry Gertiser   April 28th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Wright is his own man and free to say what he wants. I am dismayed about Sen Obama going on Faux News. They do not deserve or do they generally desire, anyone on that can think independently . I hope Sen Obama does not make that mistake again. Please Senator, do not justify their existance by going on that network.

Braindead McCain   April 28th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

McCain says Americans should take care of their own healthcare. Well what does he think we've been doing all these years? That's the status quo, and HELLO, it's not working.

I want a THINKING president, not someone who gives us platitudes.

Obama 08

Lee WV   April 28th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

People just refuse to let this die down, does CNN usually televise NAACP dinners?Obama has distanced himself from the contraversal statements.People are different and not deficient. If a 51 year old caucasion from rural WV can let this go other people need to also.

Barbara Querrie   April 28th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Yes,true, even Rev confirms it that sen Obama never heard his sermons and what he was reacting upon were youtube snips just like many of us.Now that we have seen a lengthy sermons of the pastor there is no doubt that we ow you an apology.Rev wright is an intelligent, learned philosopher that speaks almost in toungues such that it would be complicated for a lay man to understand his sermos hence the youTube thing that blinded us from the truth and painted Obama illicit yet he was innocent.
We gonna vote for Obama

Diane, Dallas   April 28th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Voting for McCain is like signing a death sentence for thousands more American soldiers. I won't do it.

America 08

AppleinAZ   April 28th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

He is a joke. How can this man marry him and his wife and then baptize his children, but 'never knew' his pastor was like that. What a frickin joke!!! This is our presidential nominee….so basically he doesn't pay attention in church but he will pay attention in world meetings?

Grif   April 28th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

He just did Obama, and it didn't help you one bit..

Diane, Dallas   April 28th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Yes, he can speak his mind, while Barack focuses on your campaign.

Obama 08

Lee   April 28th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

I wonder why the news media spends so much time "blowing up" Wright's so called negative, anti-American comments. You think it
sells more "tickets" to the next newscast - like other "tabloid" news
sources. I challenge them to check the facts behind some of the allegations Wright has made; not afraid to find and present Those
truths, are you?

R.I.F.   April 28th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

C'mon CNN. The header of his ticker is so missleading. Of course he is free to speak his mind…this is America. The meat of Obama's statements was that Wright's views are not his views. Is the Clinton camp paying CNN? Or yeah, the longer the race goes on the more people watch your station and the more money you make from selling commercial time.

mkn   April 28th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

As far as I can tell there is no Jeremiah Wright campaign for President yet he is getting more air time than the War in Iraq and the thousands of dead and disabled folks who are a result of that war. Jeremiah Wright happens to be the EX PASTOR of someone running for president , WHO CARES????? CNN?…MSNBC???? give it a rest. Its insulting to those of us who actually care about the election and the country.

Liz in SD   April 28th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

2 wars, gas at $4 a gallon, food prices through the roof, unemployment rising and we're still talking about a candidate's pastor? If we let the media dictate the issues in this campaign we deserve the disastor our government has become.

Stacy Clarks   April 28th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

I wish people will judge Obama more on all the GOOD Obama has done over his career!!!

Also, since when did people in this country ger ostrizised for speaking their mind?!?!?! The last time I checked, there is free speech in this country

I want everyone who has a crazy parent, or maybe if you are from the south a racist parent to tell me they will disown their parent?!?!?

JUST BECAUSE YOU KNOW SOMEONE DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHARE THEIR VIEWS!!

plus pastor wright has probably done more good in this world (Aids test drive, scholarship to underpriviledged, both black and white, food for the homeless etc…) than MOST Americans!!!

please America, are you going to let the media make up your mind the rest of your lives? or are you going to stand up and take control of your God given right to think for yourself?!?!?!?

DEMOCRATS IN 08!!!!!!!!!!!

James   April 28th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

Good. Rev. Wright is being selfish here.

American Girl   April 28th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I agree! Wright is not Obama!

I think Wright is crazy

obama lover   April 28th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

An Agnostic Democrat   April 28th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Just like everything in life you take what you want and what works for you and leave the rest especially when it comes to religion and politics. Sounds good to me!

Venus   April 28th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

Just stay focus on your campain Obama!

Rev. Wright is a man who can handle himself!
