Sources: North Carolina governor to back Clinton

(CNN) – North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley will endorse Hillary Clinton's White House bid, two sources close to the campaign tell CNN.

The endorsement could give the New York senator a boost in the state with one week to go until its crucial May 6 primary. Recent polling suggests Barack Obama currently holds a double-digit lead over Clinton there, though no polls have been released since Clinton’s win in Pennsylvania last week.

Easley is also a superdelegate - one of the party's nearly 800 insiders who will determine which candidate wins the Democratic nomination. Earlier Monday, the Obama campaign announced it had picked up its own superdelegate endorsement, New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman.

  4. Ok

Obama wil crash his own bandwagon- even hypocritical politicians have a hard time being ALL things to ALL people.

Sooner or later... the true person comes through the golden veneer.

    Obama can not win.

  5. Deck Chair Anyone?

He's a rat if he's supporting Hillary. No matter, there's plenty of room on Hillary's Titantic voyage.

Bring another deck chair boys, Mike Easley needs a seat.

  7. God help us

If Hillary can not salvage her swiftboated candidacy, the country will pay the price for going with the divisive uniter, the lying honest politician, the negative practices of the positive preacher, and the same ole man of change.

Wonderful! People are realizing we will be better off with Bill and Hillary than we would be with Obama and preacher Wright.

    Good for Clinton.

However, its a little too late. She cannot catch up in ELECTED DELEGATES before the race is over.

ELECTED DELEGATES is what wins elections, just ask Al Gore who lost to g.w. bush after Gore won the popular vote.

We need to start working on winning in the Fall.

  14. YOU FAIL!

    <<<<>>>>

I bet Sen Edwards will wait until this Friday to throw his support behind Obama. Most of the "surprise endorsements" have come on a Friday so Hillary has the weekend to cry about it.

Poor choice! You had the opportunity to become part of Real Change, but instead of looking forward to the future, you're looking backward to the past to the person who doesn't even honor her own "Signature" on a Pledge that the FL and MI primary votes will not count. Maybe instead of a "misspeak", this time it's a "miswrite". And yet this is who you are backing, someone who would burn the down? Well, this also tells quite a bit about you. I feel sorry for you.

  16. Let Wright speak

If we give Wright the stage... no one else has to say or DO anything at all.

Hate always backfires on the person who spews it.

They Kicked Hillary down and labeled her a racist... now they get to see it all come back around on them.

Obama is the sleaziest Politician this country has ever seen.

The people are waking up. We need a strong liberal in there fighting for the people. The more we learn about Obama, the more truths are exposed. No wonder he is running from an honest, open debate. But no hiding.

Thanks to CNN for even handed reporting on this one. If Hillary just has equal exposure, she will totally rock this thing.

    Go Hillary.

Well done Governor. Just like most of us you know that Obama is a weak candidate that would be trashed by the republicans while Clinton has strength, knowledge and experience.

There are two kinds of of politicians and they aren't just Democrats and Republicans. There are politicians that believe the American people have it in them to make a more perfect union and the other that believes America is made up of ignoramuses with the EQ of a 13 yr old boy. Clearly, with support for a race-baiter and instigator who would not only throw black folks under the bus but her own party to win, Gov. Easley belongs to the set that doesn't think very much of the American people. BUT HEY, Roger Waters does!!

Yes, that's the only solid and sound choice for the democrats!

  23. Yuck

    Thats a horrible choice...
You should go with who is going to win... and at this rate there is NO CHANCE for Clinton to over come Obama... she would have to win by a HUGE margin in the remaining contests and win at least half of the remaining superdelegates...
    Not going to happen.

Considering the fact that Easley is crooked as a right turn, it does not surprise me in the least that he would endorse Hillary. As they say, birds of a feather flock together.
