Sources: North Carolina governor to back Clinton

(CNN) – North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley will endorse Hillary Clinton's White House bid, two sources close to the campaign tell CNN.

The endorsement could give the New York senator a boost in the state with one week to go until its crucial May 6 primary. Recent polling suggests Barack Obama currently holds a double-digit lead over Clinton there, though no polls have been released since Clinton’s win in Pennsylvania last week.

Easley is also a superdelegate - one of the party's nearly 800 insiders who will determine which candidate wins the Democratic nomination. Earlier Monday, the Obama campaign announced it had picked up its own superdelegate endorsement, New Mexico Sen. Jeff Bingaman.

    Excellent choice!

This is huge, and finally the tide is turning for Sen Clinton and Sen Obama's hope & change message not sitting with people anymore. His speech is old, used many times over and over again and boring now. Where is his inspirational message now?? Where are all those young people who were always behind him in all those speeches?

By the way, HOPE and CHANGE are not policies and it may actually do him good to debate Sen Clinton before May 6th.

We've seen this type of endorsement play out time and time again. Obviously the governor does not have too many followers in the State House because just recently 43 house reps. and other prominent people in the State has endorsed Senator Barack Obama. So I don't think this has too much weight. He is part of the Clinton machine.

Hopefully he changes his mind before any real announcement is made, don't see how anyone can throw their support behind her when she is behind in every voting category and lies to the american ppl.

She can't beat Barack by HERSELF!!! She is 'strong' ONLY with GOVERNOR's machine behind her ... It's time to see the REAL Clinton – without the machine!! How many votes they will give her? How many fabricated results we should see before she is kicked out of the race?
Hey CNN, you should check also OTHER polls, published today and see that Obama leads Clinton with 9 points, and he also leads McCain with 7, and she is behind McCain by 4 points.. Don't give us only polls in Clinton's favor... Look at Rasmussen Tracking today!!!!! APRIL 28.

I think that this is an important endorsement. First, it goes against the polls in North Carolina, which means that the Governor is thinking past this primary to what he thinks is best for the country. That is stand up politics on his part. Second, he is thinking past this primary and looking at what he needs to win in a contest against the Republicans, which is what all those who vote in this election need to think about. I just don't think Obama can win.

Actually, CNN, TWO polls have been released out of North Carolina since Pennsylvania.

Both show Obama LOSING ground there. He went from a 25 point lead a week and a half ago to a 10/12 point lead now.

Why do I know more than CNN???

Hopefully, this endorsement will help North Carolina residents see that Hillary is the better choice. She is a strong democratic candidate and the best challenger to take on McCain in the general election.
