Bush to address the economy Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) –- President Bush will hold a Rose Garden press conference Tuesday morning to discuss the nation’s current economic situation and address “Americans’ understandable anxiety about issues affecting their pocketbooks,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

“He will also call upon Congress to send him sensible and effective bills that will help Americans weather this difficult period and keep our country moving forward,” said Perino, adding that Bush will urge the House and Senate to approve legislation to help ease energy prices, and address the mortgage crisis, rising food prices and student loans.

The news conference is scheduled to take place at 10:31 a.m. ET.

What could he possibly tell us at this point. I don't reall understand who want that position after him. Because they have alot of mess to clean up. And it looks like with Hilary & McCain they are going to do things the same. I don't know if Obama would be a great President or not but I am tired of the same ole same ole. Something has got to give. We cannot keep putting the same people in their repeatedly and then expecting something different. We can't keep doing that America just can't afford it.

Uncle Sam   April 29th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Before the bashing begins, I would just like to say that I honor Pres. Bush's service to our country. I pray for the day when we can once again disagree without tearing each other down.

Sue in MI   April 29th, 2008 9:37 am ET

This is a joke, right? Bush neither knows nor cares about America's pocketbooks, except to the extent that he can steal from us. All the things Perino cites would not have happened were it not for Bush and his "terrorism" tactics and the sinkhole that is Iraq. Guess they can't, with all the troops and all the billions of OUR dollars, figure out how to use Iraq's oil to 1. Pay for this war and the reconstruction that should begin in oh, 50 years or 2. send some of it our way to ease prices. I have a thought on that too…CONSERVE! Wanna bet we never hear that word out of his mouth? Nope, keep driving behemoths, keep shopping, the Decider will save us.

Kel from Auburn, AL   April 29th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Hopefully he will rebuke Clinton by saying that Americans should spend their stimulus checks on whatever we want. How can he say "Don't you dare pay down your debt or save it".

I really don't think there's too much Bush can do to make himself more popular, he is the least popular president in the last 70 years, maybe even all of history. His presidency started with a bang and will be going out with a fizzle, if that.

This guy has senioritis, for those of you who know what that means.

I was playing with the CNN Delegate Calculator and played the "what if game".

I sllid the calculator to Hillary winning all the remaining races by a 60/ 40 % margins, and also winning the super delegates by 65 /35 % she would win by a few votes. You and I both know that she isnt going to win by those margins, so why stay on the race?

Please Show that interactive on CNN! America needs to see it !

Thanks

Thats what we need. The Fox giving a helpfull speech to the Chickens. But on a more important note. If Tom Cruise and Scientology says that Hillary is inhabited by a Demon Spirit from a dead alien life form? Does that make them nuts, or her Demon inhabited, or both?

Doug R.   April 29th, 2008 9:41 am ET

I wonder if this Mr. Bush is going to talk about the uncontrollable sky-rocketing oil prices?? I doubt it since he and Cheney are sleeping with big oil. Supposedly Bush didn't even know the price of a gallon of gasoline. The overwhelming majority of Americans are tired of him and his lies.

Sensible and effective bills that continue to line the pockets of the oil industry and haliburton. What is he talking about? This is the same guy that keeps asking for a supplemental bill to fund a war that has been going on for six years! How is that one a surprise and two sensible.

Just more of the pot calling the kettle black, politics as usual.

If you want to help this country, don't vote. You made a huge mistake twice, and we don't want you to make another stupid one.

Don't vote Republicans, you've done enough to hurt this country. If you think you're capable of voting, just look at our gas prices, and stay home on election day.

The Borrow and Spend policies of the GOP were finally given a real opportunity to prove they would work and - no surprise to sane people - they don't.

It's going to take a long time to dig ourselves out of the mess we're in and I don't envy whoever wins in the next election. We are so deep in debt to China that it's going to be very painful to extract ourselves from it. Supply side economics is exactly what President Bush #41 said it is: VooDoo Economics. $10 trillion in debt for the coming generation(s)

They are not going to thank us for being so gullible as to believe this fool and his gang of corporate thieves.

This country is suffering and Bush is solely responsible. We entrusted him with our country in spite of the way he was elected, or perhaps stole the election, and look what he has done.

I think anyone who voted for him owes the country an apology, and should just vote for differently this year to make amends.

Bush and anyone who voted for him is guilty. Our country is suffering. The money that we are spending in Iraq is money that our children will never benefit from–Bush's administration was a disaster.

Our country is NOT better off today.

Blame Bush blame Bush blame Bush…..

That's all we have heard for 7 years. Well it is funny then how our economy went into the tank starting in January 07 when the Democrats took over both houses. They were more concerned about indicting Bush & Cheney for nothing then they were about writing bills to help us and the economy.

And we want to give these people the keys to the Oval Office?

Question for Republicans:

Was this man worth your vote?

People were laughing at the Dems counting chads in Florida, but if I had known we'd be paying $4.00 a gallon for gas, I'd go back and count chads as well.

I'm ashamed that he has been in office so long. When will we learn? The Republicans NEVER have a plan, so they have to attack their opponents and scare Americans. When will we learn?

I'm concerned about where this country is going and every time I have to look at that idiot Bush, his no substance wife, and those stupid girls, my heart aches.

Wake up America, this is our country, take it back.

Alice Newman Center Harbor NH   April 29th, 2008 10:17 am ET

"Blame Bush blame Bush blame Bush…." Yep! Bush hero Harry Truman had a sign that said "the buck stops here."

The Democrats have resisted indicting Bush/Cheney for high crimes an treason.

The sensible bills written by Democrats die in the Senate where they don't have the 60 votes needed to end a GOP filibuster or over come the veto pen Bush only used after 2006.

The GOP brags about being the party of "personal responsibility" but will be defined as the party of "mistakes were made" or "I don't recall."
The GOP is leaving a huge mess: 34 GOP seats up for grabs as the rats abandon what they think is a sinking ship. Not as much fun knowing you will be in the minority and less able to line your pockets.

xtina, chicago IL   April 29th, 2008 10:18 am ET

If people want w/ gas prices, the President can implement John McCain's suggestion to eliminate the federaI gas tax. That alone will cut avg. of 50 cents /gallon, and it's something Congress can do immediately. (I don't think Hillary and Obama's suggestion to tax oil companies even more will cause the price per gallon to go down).

Expecting congress to do all the work is like using waterlogged wood to build a fire. Ain't gonna happen.

As far as no voting well I intend to vote and it won't be fo HilObama as probably neither one will make it to the convention with enough votes unless that primadona John Dean steps in an annoints one of them.

I hope that the Democratic convention is in such upheaval that they will pick a compromise candidate, that individuals from both parties would be comfortable with.

Randy - Denver   April 29th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Andy to paraphrase a former President Bush the economy for the first four years of any presidency is more a reflection on the previous administration.. " the same goes for the Congress the disaster we are in is NOT because we elected Democrats a year or so ago it is because for the previous years we ahd a "rubber stamp" congress that simply agreed to everything the resident wanted. Our failures in Iraq, Afganistan and now our economy are ZMOSAT definately the fault of the "rubber stampers" not the current Congress. As a final note you must remember that while the Dems have a slight majority they cannot override a veto so the idiot in charge STILL controls the direction fo this Congress.

That said I must now go on to agree with Uncle Sam, while I have disagreed with MANY of the current residents policies there have been a few I HAVE agreed with and am more than willing to listen to him but based on past comments I believe he is going to say things alike Congress should vote to keep the tax cuts for the wealthy permananet, that we should cut capital gains taxes and other, in my opinion, misguided ideas like that. What he should say is we should start charging Iraq a weekly maintenance and training fee… but lets see.

And just because I cannot let you get away with a "misspeaking" like and I quote " They were more concerned about indicting Bush & Cheney for nothing then they were about writing bills to help us and the economy. " I would add if they had really wanted to push impeachment charges against Bush and Cheney they could ahve but they decided to take the higher road and not do that but to look at specific areas where they could try to fix some of the problems caused by b&c without destroying the entire country like the republicans did with Bill Clinton.

I am so disheartened by the apparently blind eyes of so many in this country. Or is it just plain old ignorance? Bush's statements are all about blaming Congress …it's not his fault! He's the president for goodness sakes … he campaigned on bringing people together and getting things done as never before. 8 years have shown his ability to divide and conquer … including our economy. We're not in this condition all of a sudden people!!! You can't give billions of dollars away to the effort in Iraq and cut jobs sending them overseas for 7 years and expect this country to flourish and thrive. A wise 90 year old told me when Bush was elected she didn't know if our country would survive him. She was very astute.

Some talk has come up concerning our country building more oil refineries. Why should our government build them when the oil companies are making record breaking $40 - $45 billion in profit!! Make them re-invest their own profits!
Now, a better idea.
Instead of more refineries, develop better and less expensive to the consumer, solar and wind energy alternatives!!
We need more "normal, everyday people" in power, not millionaires who don't fill their own tanks with fuel, buy their own groceries, etc. because they have soooo much of their own money, they don't have to! I'm sick to death of having to choose between food and gas.

The Federal Gas Tax is nowhere near 50 cents! Try 18.4 Cents.
Buy 10 Gallons and you save a whopping $1.84. You could buy a box of Rice-a-Roni!!

Fantasy Land   April 29th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Reality King you fail to mention that the approval rating of the Republican portion of Congress is even lower that than of the Democratic portion. Without a 60 vote majority the Democrats are
unable to overide a veto by Bush, but you knew that didn't you? Please go ahead and continue to polish this turd and call it a diamond.

CYNTHIA   April 29th, 2008 11:58 am ET

It is your fault that the economy is in the Shi_ _ y state it's in now. You need to give up your Oil money and Salary to the people of America to make up for the mess that you've put us in. You really should step down now! Before the new President gets in because I'm sure that you and your Administration will be brought up on Charges and you and them have a lot of charges to be brought up on.

American Girl   April 29th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

I guess whenever one sees Bush, uneducated, stupid and idot should come up.

Did you hear him today…" We are fighting people who will strap a bomb to themselves and blow innocent people up" - idiot, didn't you know this before you went into Iraq… oh, I forgot you had never traveled outside of the US before becoming President and you do not like to read….

America, we need someone who is educated and can be level headed when dealing with situations. Barack Obama is that person////

Obama '08 and '12

Get rid of Bush, McCain and Hillary or we will have the same thing we have always had.

Carl   April 29th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

As much as you would like to BLAME this man for the economy. Sure, the war in Iraq and a lowering of taxes caused us to borrow money, but Obama, Clinton, or McCain dont' know how to solve it either.

The Congress should stop spending so much money, and the Fed needs to stop giving Congress "invisible" money by stop priting billions to pay off spending deficits. Hard to stop spending money when you promise free health care when our current government setup has no business running SS and medicare right now (not without a revamp of it).

A bunch of you have no idea what you are talking about now other than hate. Please just do some research and figure it out for yourself. Until then, about 90% of the Obama, Clinton, and McCain supporters will just stay ignorant.

Ken   April 29th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

I'm with you fantasy land. I'm not sure what reality he is supposed to be king of. The 28% true-believers have been polishing their brown bush nugget so long all of their hands are brown, as well as their noses. The stench permeates America. I think the nonsense we hear from these [R] neo-nuggets can be summed up with one statement: "no brain, no pain".

Get rid of about 10 more [R] senators and 30 more [R] reps, and just watch the approval rating of congress shoot up!

Farrell, Houston, Tx   April 29th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

George Bush will use this as just another opportunity to shove you know what up our you know what. There is no quick fix for this mess our country is in and since when did he care, after all we're just in a "slow down". He's a baffoon and so is John McCain.

Myrna   April 29th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

This coward, deserter, war criminal should be in prison along with his handler- Cheney. He is a moron who cannot put two words together without displaying the intellgence void he lives in. If he is not connected to a teleprompter or reading from a script he cannot function.

Now that he has caused the death of thousands of Americans and Iranians, put our economy in the trash and made his buddies in the oil companies (including papa Cheney) richer, he has the nerve to tell congress what it should do. And this is the man that we are suppost to call Mr. President. Go back to the rock you crawled out from under .

Kathryn Irby - Metairie, LA   April 29th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Bush, the imbecile that he is, of course, is "trying" to talking economics now?!!!! It's too little, too late!!! He has spent the last 8 years flying all over the world and has managed to put this country into a recession, which will probably lead us into another Great Depression. He has been far too incompetent to every have been "president"! Good riddance, Bush!

Misty   April 29th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

Bush and Economy: No relation at all.

Bush is a disgrace to American history. The only thing he has done is perpetuate genocide and lies. All we know is what he wants to know. But hopefully Americans this time around are smarter enough not to be fooled by him or McCain.

\We can do so much better

Bush telling Congress to fix the economy is like a small child destroying toys with a tantrum, and then telling the parents to fix what was just broken. What a crying shame…

barackobama44thpresidentofusa.blogspot.com   April 29th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Bush is a failure as a president as so will McCain be if this country makes the HUGE mistake of voting him into office.

Bush's policies are so out of touch as is his counterpart McCain. It's being reported that McCain tried to call Sen. obama out of touch on economic issues. Isn't this up for laughs being that he knows NOTHING on the issue. McCain is absolutely in no position to label anybody as being "insensitive to poor people and out of touch on economic issues," because that tag solely belongs to him.

He is the one who flip-flop on giving tax cuts to the wealthy - first saying he was against it and now is embracing it. Additionally, he admitted he knows nothing about economics and therefore connected himself with the failed Bush policies.

So having said all of this he's trying convince the voters differently. Old man please just go away ! You are not qualified to lead this country in the direction of REAL change that the American people so desperately need.

It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time for Barack Obama for president !

wwf   April 29th, 2008 1:02 pm ET

As much as I would like to see gas prices go down, taking away the federal tax will only create another problem and more expensive than this. That is where we get the money to keep our roads up. Don't worry, if they do this, they will get the money from some place else. The one thing you can count on is that we will pay for it one way or another.

Bush wants to drill in the province, why, so he can sell that oil to Britan as he did the Alaskan pipeline? We really benefited from that drilling! Americans probably don't know that the Alaskan pipeline oil is going to China, not USA! But Bushy loves us. I just hope that he can be brought up on war crimes, all of them, and that the world can see that America is back.

stag   April 29th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

If the problems were as singular as Jorge Bush then there would be hope. Reality is that even with out jorge things will not change.

Oil prices are due a lot to devaluation of the US$. Check the euros per barrel and the increase is a lot samller than for US$ per barrel.

Food prices…we are burning our food to power cars at no net energy benefit.

Now we outsource to the French (how bad are things?) military equipment supply. Maybe we should outsource our defense to the Chinese—lot cheaper than doing it ourself.

So as bad as Jorge Bush is, don't expect any real change. Bottom line is the USA has blown it's fortune like a drunken sailor on shore leave.

UNCLE SAM. YOU ARE RIGHT. BUSH JUST TOLD US HOW HARD IT IS TO GET ISSUES PAST CONGRESS. O.B. THINKS HE CAN JUST CHANGE WASHINGTON. HE KEEPS SAYING HE ISNT LIKE WASHINGTON. GIVE ME A BREAK. HRC IS THE ONLY ONE THAN KNOWS HOW TO GET AROUND THE WASHINGTON POLITICS. IF HRC LOOSES WE LOOSE. GO HRC.

It speaks volumes about our current culture that those who plead for civility are insulted as well. We see it not only in our politics, but throughout our society. Nobility of character is no small thing and its effects are far-reaching. If we really desire a societal transformation we must be willing to open our hearts. No president can do that for us.

concerned tax payer   April 29th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Bush has a given freedom to oil companies to make as much profit as possible before the end of his presidency. As a result of which the oil companies are making record profits and he is not even willing to investigate this outright crime being committed by these oil companies. He doesn't realize that a major chunk of the tax rebates received by the tax payers will again end up with the already rich oil companies - A Win Win Situation for them.

An American in Canada   April 29th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

There is an ungoing truth about the Republicans and the Democrats.

The Republicans when they are elected and have the majority run the country into excessive debt.

Then the Democrats, especially Bill Clinton era after eight years of serving America, left the White House and the government of American with a surplus of money and a good economy.

Now, G.W. Bush, and the Republicans are leaving the White House and the government of American in a debt of TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS

Thus, once again the Democrats will regain the White House and hopefully in eight years bring the democratic government will bring the economy and reduce the debt created by the Republicans back into a manageable debt or get rid of it once again.

And Hillary R. Clinton will be the best candidate to restore our economy back to its, glory days when it was under the guide of President Bill Clinton

Hillary R. Clinton, P.O.T.U.S. 2009-2016 GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
