(CNN) — On the day Democrats hold a crucial primary in North Carolina, John McCain will venture to the Tar Heel State to lay out his vision on what kind of judges he would appoint to the bench.

The McCain campaign tells CNN's Dana Bash the Arizona senator will deliver a speech next Tuesday at Wake Forrest University designed to help bolster his standing among conservatives with regard to the issue of judges.

Many conservatives took issue with McCain in 2005 for signing on to the so-called "gang of 14″ in the Senate — a bipartisan group of senators who sought to find a compromise on some of President Bush's judicial nominees.

The last thing we need are more stone age thinking right wing nut jobs sitting on the bench for life.

Thank God Hillary or Obama will be the ones appointing the next round of Judges.

John McCain doesn't even have a prayer in the fall.

McCain will be "picking his judges" for naught! LOL!

Peter in PA   April 29th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

A vote for John McCain is a vote for Cindy McCain and her beer distribution network. Old man McCain can't handle the day to day activity of the presidency. Cindy will be the president by controlling McCain's agenda….

Blake   April 29th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Funny how McCain sounds like the last kid picked during a recess pick up game.

"Please someone take me seriously please. I am over here. No not there. Over here. Pick me. Pick me. Please."

McCain, the Keating 5, picking judges. The country has lost it's mind.

Gretchen, OR   April 29th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Good, what else had he got to talk about. He is so out of touch, but then if you're part of the 100 million dollar club, it's understandable. He will never have to worry about gas prices, foreclosures, etc. His wife is rich.

Note to McSame: Go take a trip on Cindy's airplane, and leave the domestic issues to people who care, like Barack Obama.

I hope this is covered in depth. This is far more important than the sniping in my party.

Every Democrat needs to think about this possibility when "their" nominee (be it Clinton or Obama) loses. This and foreign policy are the two areas in which the president has by far the biggest impact.

I am no fan of Hillary, but if McCain would move the courts any further right, I would have to support her. I don't think McCain and Clinton differ much on foreign policy, but I imagine she would not install any more nutjobs on the bench. Would he?

I think the conservatives are already going to vote for McCain. I think the biggest thing he can do to LOSE liberal Republicans and Independents is to go around bragging that he will appoint conservative judges. Big mistake. He should have stuck to his "gang of 14″ thing.

DJ, VA   April 29th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

I agree that Michelle needs a stylist, which she will have once she reaches OUR White House. That is not unusual for someone who has been busy working for a living and raising two kids. When Hillary first came to Washington, she looked so preppy it wasn’t funny, complete with opaque stockings and a headband. Cindy McCain has never HAD to work hard for a living; the job she had was a hobby. She certainly doesn't know what it means to balance a checkbook. So of course she is well coiffed, what do you expect from a Barbie Doll, who has to ask permission to open her mouth?

Michelle IS patriotic as well, I'd say even more so because she has seen adversity, and has climbed obstacles to get her law degree from Princeton, etc. What has Barbie done, but worked as a nurse and stole drugs on the job.

So if you can't "picture" Michelle as your next First Lady, it's probably because you've been short-sighted all your life, and can't see past your nose. Grow up.

Barack Obama 44th president !   April 29th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

McCain is a weak link and an tremendously easy opponent for Sen. Obama to defeat in the fall. McCain favors the dumb war he authorized and wants to keep it going. I believe what Ed Schultz said about him - he is a warmonger. He is also very ignorant of the economy, and has very weak health care views. All of this proves he is out-of-touch and shows he is very insensitive to the needs of the American people.

Now if the American people do not pay close attention to all of this and make the mistake of voiting him into office; in addition to his pooer judgment used in authorizing the war in Iraq being a HUGE bludder, but so will be the same with him being in the oval office.
Having said all of this, it's useless for McCain to venture to the Tar Heel State to lay out his vision on what kind of judges he would appoint to the bench.

It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time for Barack Obama for president !

Stacy Clarks   April 29th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Democrats, we cannot allow this guy to be elected

I don't get how so many people think he's so honest and noble….he has changed his mind about everything he voted for in the past, before he figure out he is gonna run for president!!

I'm amazed McCain thinks he;s a republican when most republicans have doubts about him! I'm sure he was behind the Wright adds in NC along with Hiliary. "McHiliary" are wotking together to discredit obama. It was all planned for McCain to then ask the NC repubs to withdraw the adds to give everyone and the media the impression that heis the good guy-what a farce!!!!! Go Obama/Go Heels

SCShawnee   April 29th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

Is this the same McCain that was a POW? What was that he said about the USA? And isn't this the same McCain that was involved with the Keating 5? But, guess what, he wears a flag pin!!!!!!! And the judges he appoints will be of the same caliber.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   April 29th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

Clearly…

We need to finally elect a President that nominates Judge's for the Supreme Court–who follow the constitution–and leave their ideology at home.

McCain's not that guy–and neither are his two rivals.

Sadly, is it any wonder that less than 50% of Americans even bother to vote.

Toni   April 29th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

I love how open minded the people are around here..

Is there an instruction manual for how to walk in lockstep and slam all things not Howard Dean and the DNC?

When is McCain dropping out of the race??

Steve, New York, New York   April 29th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

That is the problem with "conservatives" - if you don't think, look, dress, act, talk EXACTLY LIKE THEM, then there's something wrong with you. Good for McCain for at least making an effort to reach across the aisle, during his time in the senate.

Of course, it is typical of the media to publish plenty of negative stuff on all of the presidential candidates (except for Hillary).

ANYBODY BUT HILLARY in 2008!!!

Slowpoke   April 29th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

He really should campaign on his own strengths, not some constitutional power he would have to get other people in office that people would like. Judge nomination helped bush a ton in his second election.

Peter in Canada   April 29th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

McCain would probably in fact nominate judges that were not half bad if left to his own. The problem is those judges would in fact be the nominees of Parsley, Hagee, Huckabee, the Falwells and so on.
Ultimately America seems to want a theocracy as their form of government, not truely a democracy. Although Rev. Wright is an egotistical nut, it is better to listen to his preaching than the others that I mentioned. By the way, those others are whom the Clintons tend to listen to these days!

trellskig   April 29th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

Democrats unite!! We need to keep this guy out of office. He will screw up even worst than Bush.

To DJ in VA

I'm not some uneducated stooge who needs to grow up.

Bottom-line, if your husband runs for office, you maintain a certain look.

My wife and I met while we were in Medical school, she works 40 hours a week, I work 60 hours a week; we are raising a set of twins.

My wife looks like a million bucks!

It's called taking PRIDE in yourself; we also do hospice work in low income communities every other weekend.

Why don't you go grow-up, better yet, get a grip!

And no, we don't have a nanny.

it was said ==he would appoint==
the sentence was not finished. it should have been

tanner, ca   April 29th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

Hey Eddie… ALL CAPS is annoying and gets less people to read your posts.

And what makes you dems think you can beat McCain in the fall? Last time all of you dems had convinced yourselves that Kerry was guaranteed to beat Bush. How did that work out for ya?

Now you're back guaranteeing an Obama win. Some folks just never learn. Guarantees on message boards are about as useless as a screen door on a submarine.

Alonzo Demetrius   April 29th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Better McCain's choice of conservative judges than Obama's choice of Jeremiah Wright or Louis Farrakhan for the Supreme Court..

Better McCain than Obama, best would be Clinton.

Obama wants judges who will allow abortions up to 6 months after birth, Hillary will allow abortions during the 8th month 29th day 59th second of a womans pregnancy. Talk about liberal left wing nut jobs. Go McCain!

Chris, Middletown, CT   April 29th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

I can see Obama - but Hillary….omg…she is the reason why a McCain has a shot….they never go after her….i.e. because 53% of the population thinks she is a liar….47% of the people are illiterate

Danny   April 29th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Need more jab……knock Obama boy out if you want to get a President of
the United States. You know why if Obama get nominee most of the people going to vote for you and if Hillary get nominee you going to have
less people vote for you John……..still very good time for to knock Obama
boy out now.

Common Sense   April 29th, 2008 3:03 pm ET

I'm tired of the rev. wright, the dnc, hillary clinton, and the media. I think it's getting to be a tiredsome bunch. The same hate was shown to Martin King by trying a say he was a communist. America needs to wake up and choose their life and liberty over what the rich is trying to mislead you to believe. And while i agree with rev.wright and most honest people would too, it's time for barack to get his message out, because americans need help.

Common Sense   April 29th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

he wants old and crooked judges just like him, bush and clinton. End the dynasty.

Susie   April 29th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

Hillary is the only Change candidate. Obama will bring in the old guard (Kennedy, Kerry, Daschle among others) to advise on new judges. Hillary will use her own intelligence and judgement and be fair with whom she appoints.

Hillary 08

Unshrub   April 29th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

All we need are to more Justices like Bush picked. They will start giving corporations the right to vote. For all of the democrats who say they won't vote if their candidate doesn't win the nomination think about having the Supreme Count controlled by the EXTREME RIDIACAL RIGHT. Is that what you want? I want a court that is balanced not an ideology base of conservatives. I want a court that returns to the constitution.

Ian   April 29th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

Two points define a line. One point is what John says and the other is what he does. The lies make up the line between points.

Now I understand what "straight talk" means.

Mike in NC   April 29th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Anyone who has bothered to LISTEN to a single thing Barack Obama has said or to view the actions of his life (or is aware that his own mother is white) would know that he would never appoint anyone like Louis Farrakhan or Jeremiah Wright as a justice. You people amaze me, you just grasp for any reason you can to discredit a decent man. Just admit that you flat out don't like him and don't have a great reason; don't resort to bombastic absurd characterization. It only convinces the weak of intellect…which should tell you something.

David   April 29th, 2008 3:44 pm ET
