Responding to supporter's comments in defense of his former pastor, Obama said would hold a "big press conference" during which he would address the issue.

It's a shame that there are enough ignoramusesin this country that even care about this issue. This should be dead by now. Can we please talk about the real issues facing our country?

Steve TN   April 29th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

At least it will give him some air-time with a subject he's familiar with. He's great at delivering the 'obvious' problems with issues that need work very eloquently. We're still waiting to hear the solutions.

Why should the news media let it go? They never let any small negative thing go about Senator Clinton. Now, the shoe is on the other foot. See, how it feels?

matt   April 29th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

Let it go, Obama. I thought you want to focus on more important issues like gas prices, housing crisis. We do not want to listen to another one of your rehearsed and scripted speeches.

I'd like to see Hillary Clinton address Peter Paul's allegations.

It will NEVER happen. She'll just continue to say she doesn't know him.

Obama is sinking fast. This Wright event has not been good. I wonder if Wright is going to endorse Clinton now. He is weak, and Clinton has no chance with McCain. She is a tenacious, tunnel visioned snake.

You can't have it both ways Obama!!!!!…..I really hope that this does derail him. We know NOTHING about him, he has no record to speak of for us to go by. He has no experience running a company much less a country. What are people thinking here?

Hillary may not have the "charisma" that Obama exudes, but she has the substance, honesty and strength that he will never have.

We are so turned off by the news concerning the reverand in our household, we have turned off the television and only watch 15 minutes a day to hear if a superdelegate count will be updated and see the number of Obama endorsements are acurately reported. The media should understand its roll in manufacturing artificial news. Everyone on CNN, except Cafferty, gets a C- grade this week. Cafferty always manage to turn out an A+ report. He is the only television professional that is a real co-anchor. No other channel even has a co-anchor position. Don't worry about your grade CNN, the other stations range from D- to F this week with the exception of Oberlin, who always manages to squeek out an A+ just like JACK CAFFERTY. Way to stay on topic(s) Jack, any will do as long as it is not Reverand Wright.

It's absolutely ridiculous how media has "fallen in love" with the coverage of Rev. Wright. He is condemned for his "fiery" speeches. Yet, it seems as if newstations are salivating to replay every statement that he makes over the airways 24/7.
For the millionth time, Rev. Wright and Obama ARE NOT one in the same. Nor do they share the same POLITICAL VIEWS.

What ever happened to the "Seperation from Church and State" that our government supposedly believes in….

Can we stick to the real policitical issues like resolutions for home foreclosures, high gas prices, and national security. This is what America should be focusing on. Not where someone chose to undertake his spiritual worship for the last 20 years.

Theresa   April 29th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

ShannonL   April 29th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Wright is going to sink Obama's ship. There is nothing Obama can say that will make it better. He has no where to go.

If he disowns Wright, he is disloyal
If he defends Wright, he is defending a bigot.

Anywhere in between will be picked apart by his critics.

Wright needs to GO AWAY until November.

Lee WV   April 29th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

It's shame that after a clean campaign up til Ohio that Obama has been so sidetracked by something that someone else said.Nothing he can say will help. But he will still win.

This is funny, the Obamabots were defending Wright up until last week, now you are trying to throw him under the bus! This guy has single handidly done more damage to BO than Hillary ever could have! Twist that! The RNC will have Wright on a constant do loop until the GE! Wright, if you care ANYTHING about BO, go sit in a corner and SHUT UP!!

With so much rumors going around distracting Americans from the real issues - it's good that Obama will set the record straight. However, it's really sad that he's the only candidate having to do this considering Hillary and McCain have their non-issues all kept at a minimum. And trust me, there are a lot on non issues about Hillary and McCain who thanks to the media, not a lot of you know about. As usual, the front-runner takes the the full brunt.

Mike   April 29th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

who cares… the damage has all ready been done… where is John Edwards???

All we need is more rhetoric from Obama and another new story… first he was a mentor, then an uncle, then a pastor… what is next???

lynette   April 29th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Great, then can we get back to the candidates????? The media is making it worse, feeding a gossip frenzy, who cares about a preacher? He is not running for president. What happened to the issues? What is the govt doing about our economy, food prices and gas prices? We need to focus and get off this gossip thing. Obama will likely win the nomination and we want to see what he is going to do about our current situation, not about his old ex pastor. I cannot believe this man has gotten that much air time. It's outrageous, we as citizens need to ask the media to report and analyze the issues, not GOSSIP!!!! Rev. Wright is NOT going to lower the cost of food, reduce gas prices and give us jobs. He is just going to write a book. Please post this!!!!

guess now he's ready to throw the crazy uncle under the bus. This, only after he's seen how Rev Wright's tour is messing with his campaign. Too late, it can only be considered a political move, not one of substance. Obama knew this guy was full of hate for the past 20 yrs.

OH NO, here we go again another one of those looooong "eloquent" speeches where nothing important is said, just obama enjoying listening to himself jabber on and on. Maybe he will just take the last race speech and change a few words here and there so people think it is another great speech from the god of words. I can't wait for Hillary to take the nomination and then we will only have one more speech to listen to from obama, "his goodby speech."

Jose Malagon   April 29th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Rev. Wright's comments has caused him the white house bid, period. No matter what he says that will erase the damage.

Rev Wright   April 29th, 2008 1:57 pm ET

My question is everyone here who is talking and making comments must be avid church goers and that there place of worship never said some stupid things that would sound weird to anyone hearing a 10 sec clip. The stuff he said is stupid…but to say a US Senator believes everything then we are stupid. I am pretty sure Clinton's former Pastor who was convicted yesterday for Molestation doesn't mean that she is a molestor…..wake up people. The media needs the ratings and they want this to go down for a big story.

Wake up. Next week they will start talking about Hillary and her Peter vs Paul case to stir up the people. We aren't that stupid.

Since Mr. Wright(wrong) is speaking out , Senator Obama should make one more speech or press conference to clear the dust that this man is kicking up.
Senator Obama needs to make it clear just as he did when people mention Farakan connection with him and distance himself from this FORMER pastor.
Mr Wright has self motivations and has no good intentions for Senator Obama, who I believe will be our next President of the United States.

Obama should stick with the issues and move on with this campaign.

Good for Obama- get this lame story out of the news by addressing it head on, and don't give people and excuse to keep it alive while people are dying in the Clinton-authorized Iraq war and being laid off because of Clintonian trade policy.

The news media is sensationalizing this story for no useful reason.

For example, Meredith Viera on the Today show showed a ten second snippet of Wright's speech on Sunday and said he was "knocking JFK." In reality, he was simply stating that nobody criticized JFK's thick Boston accent, but people criticize the voice of urban black youth. Wright is proabaly a big fan of the Kennedys.

I have never felt so insecure in my life than I do now about both the present administration and this election. Why in the world would Wright throw Obama under the bus this late in the game? I knew about Wright long before the media started talking about it because I did my research on Obama. Wright told Obama when he decided to run that there would come a time when he had to distance himself from the pastor. Why now? I don't get it nor do I get the whole rise in food and oil costs and Bush's total neglect of our country's welfare. I just don't understand what is happening, but something smells fishy to me.

Steve from Alabama   April 29th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

I, personally, am a typical caucasian in America….I have ,in my ancestry, French,Irish,Scottish,German,Cherokee Indian, and Creek Indian, just to mention the nationalities I am aware of. Rev Wright is under the impression that Black-Americans deserve an apology from the Whites, yet most of the whites responsible for the plight of the African-Americans,are lying in graves, and most of the remaining white culture, are like me……….a mixture of cultures. If anyone should have been apologized to,it should have been Native Americans. Yet,to ask for whites to apologize to them ,is much like asking me to apologize to me,as I am a descendant of both, the invader and the native inhabitant. No matter how I feel about Europeans invading the North American continent, the fact is,if I changed one element of history, I would not be here writing this letter. I wouldn't exist, in all likelihood. The same can be said for Obama. How is it he identifies with Rev Wright's or any of his teachings? Personally, I am just proud to be alive ,and here, arguing this point. God has brought us all together, regardless of how ,to do his ultimate will. How can we question the manner by which he accomplished this task? By the way, welcome to my church! God has a plan for each of us. We need to put "sour grapes" aside, and get about doing his will.

Susan   April 29th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

I hope that they recognize how invaluable Rev. Wright is. He best represents the left wing and a force that can match onto the right wing of the republicans. Although his remarks appear divisive to some, his good intention is transparent. Obama only needs to draw a line to show that his policy is not divisive but inclusive. Leave Rev. Wright alone; he has full right to speak his own mind and let American people to judge him vs Rove, Hannity and Cheney.

People like Wright will like him more as he speaks, those who fear him will continue to hate, those who are confused will find more agreement with Wight than Republicans. I see the general election coming!

Let Wright to speak! Let Obama to draw the line!

Seems like every time Obama runs into troubles, he tries to smooth talk his way out. Not this time, Mr. Obama. We are smarter this time around not to buy into your empty rhetorics again. We want a fighter in the white house, not a smooth talker.

** HILLARY '08 **

Alonzo Demetrius   April 29th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

The idea that people would accept a presidential candidate who was involved for 20 years with anti-Americanism and hatred of Whites, that that person could be elected????? Craziness!! Do all young people believe that a person's actions for 20 years doesn't say something important in a person's history and psychology? Just what kind of mind poisoning is going on in our schools and colleges anyway?

Florida For OBAMA   April 29th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

THIS IS RIDICULOUS, HE'S ADDRESSED THIS ALREADY!
OBAMA, WE'RE BEHIND YOU AND WILL SUPPORT YOU.
SENDING $100 DO THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN RIGHT NOW!!!

YES WE CAN

Jay Fray   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

What time? will this be televised?…Wright is the bitter one, and now wants Obama to lose because Obama was against his sound bite remarks. Wright, he is trying to be president, go back into hiding, your only hurting him. Nobody should even care what this guy says anymore, he obviously is loving the attention. Good luck Obama, the hatred of the haters (inclucing Billary) are beginning to prevail!

By the way, work on your jumper!

Obama 08!!!!!

Rebecca   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

It is completely RIDICULOUS that this continues to be front page news!! You guys need to start covering substance instead of sensational political gossip fueled by opponents. This story has NO BEARING on Obama's ability to lead this country…..we want to read about ISSUES. Did you guys read Mrs. Edwards' editiorial in the NYT???!!! Apparently not. Please do your job, please!!

Rachel   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

we don't need another speech, wright is just enoying his media time and giving Obama something to talk about since Obama doesnt have any real plans for the USA except maybe to stand around in a circule with the people who want to kill us and sing kumbayah.

John   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

How about they talk about some real news…. Like Bush admitting to know all about his top advisers approving torching people… or how about the "message multipliers" you know the pentagon propaganda experts they had on their channel as the pumped up the war drums… How about they cover NEWS instead of this fluff garbage?!?!! This channel makes me sick!

Dyan   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Wright is at it again??!!! That's IT!!!!! There is no way that I'll be voting for Rev Wright for President. Wright has definately lost my vote.

What a relief that he's not on the ballots and we can spend our time on issues that actually make a difference in our lives.

Zaac   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

Yes once and for all explain to the world how you sat and listened to this man you now say you denounce for 20+ years. Explain how the American people are to believe that a lot of the stuff he is now saying you haven't head before in 20+ yearss.

As Jeremiah said before and as will probably be the case again today, Barack will say what he needs to say as a politician in order to get elected. Wright's comment about that tells me that it is very feasible that Barack feels the same way that Wright does about a lot of these issues yet because of political expediency, he's saying what he needs to.

So much for not doing politics as usual.

Michelle in Philly   April 29th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

One more phony speech, hold on let me knee and give praise to ali obama

Why   April 29th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Every time Barack Obama's back is against the wall he wants to make a speech but yet he can't answer questions during debates or otherwise. I do not want to hear anything else from him. His last speech was not historic but rhetoric and he continues to deliver more.

Eloquently spoken garbage is still garbage spoken eloquently.

Jim Bank   April 29th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

CNN's relentless coverage of Rev Wright (who is not a presidential candidate) confirms what many have been saying: CNN is biased against Obama and is conspiring with the Clintons to see if they can steal the nomination from the vast majority of Americans that are voting for Obama.

The great people of Indiana and North Carolina should deliver a knock out verdict against the Clintons and the Media by giving Obama a win in these two states.

b-liberal   April 29th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

The Obama camp is dredging up old Hillary stuff from years ago.

In the sense of equality, the Rev.Wright saga has years to go!!!

Unless the Ozombies can let Hillary "Move On" too. But that is just another example of the blatant sexism and inequality that has played out from the start.

"move on" = quick, look at me play basketball, and bowl, and act cute. Stop looking at my past and my lack of content, and my blocking revotes in FL and MI, and my avoiding debate and real issues.

Bridgette   April 29th, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Why does this man need to hold a press conference about what another man thinks and says. This is getting silly for this man too have to keep proving himself about ridiculous things. First people called a muslim, then he was a radical christian, and now he has to explain what another man says and thinks or explains that that man does not speak for him. Why, does he have too do this. Everyone knows whether they want to admit it or not the reason and it is just sad.

Ben, MD   April 29th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Mercedes! You're wright, but when press don't say anything about real issues and spend all day reporting Rev. Wright's comments, Sen. Obama need to take action against his ex-pastor's nonsense and CNN's ando theirs garbage news.

I have faith that this will go away too.

Obama'08

hrp   April 29th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Rev. Wright needs to go away. He's had his 15 minutes - touble with that though is that he likes being in the limelight and the stupid media in this country are keeping him there. Stop giving this lunatic the time of day or you (the media) will end up being totally responsible for Clinton or McCain being the next president. Or is that the grand plan after all?

Alex H   April 29th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

This isn't the end of anything. Fox/right wing will spin it however they want, find some reason to pretend to be offended, find another link to connect to. It is never going to be over… not in this country. Not until the racial divide has been split wide open. Then they'll move on to women…

This is the country we live in. Unless everyone can see that and stand up against it, it will never end.

DELMARVA   April 29th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

I am so tired of everybody bringing up Rev. Wright. The whole issue is tired.

How about we discuss Hillary Clinton and Peter Paul? It would be a shame to have the Dem nominee hauled off in handcuffs.

How about we discuss John McCain and the Keating 5?

breanna   April 29th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

wont change minds. why? because everyone will see this a a political move, which it is, and what he will say will not be looked at as true. afterall didnt wright say that obama is a politican and he does what a politican does? if obama really wants to make a difference in his campaign, he needs to debate clinton. he and clinton have only had 4 debates together, the rest were with other contenders. in a debate he will be able totell us everything that he hasnt told us before. in a debate he will be able to give us clarification on all the tid biuts that he has been spoon feeding us. he has yet to say something and back it up with proof. im tired of guessing and asking who is obama? the only ones that know for sure are his wife, his pastor, people that he is friendly with and the people who groomed him to run for office. lets debate for a 5th time obama.

Cathy in Kentucky   April 29th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

I hope that Sen. Obama can finally put this issue behind him. I would hate to see holding our candidates responsible for every word or thought people in their circle of friends, family, or aqaintances utter become the norm in American politics. It's time to move on to another topic—-like the economy and war!

Dody   April 29th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Rev. Wright's latest appearances would not even have been news if the news media were not frothing at the mouth to make it so. Some pundit said yesterday that Wright was taking as many appearances as possible to keep the spotlight on himself as he's such a narcissist. Well, that may be true, but the spotlight wouldn't be there if the media weren't so eager to fry Obama over this. Gee, maybe if we talked about the ISSUES they might have something more substantial to report. Unfortunately, with this type of gutter journalism, we may never get back to the issues. I'm sure everyone cares more about Rev. Wright's anti-American statements than Iraq or health care or our recession….right? On another note, I DO hope fervently that Obama will finally disown this unstable, unpopular man who is KILLING his campaign. I appreciate Obama's original motives for not throwing Wright "under the bus" (sorry, that's SO overused lately), but there comes a time when it's you or him. He could lose the nomination and the presidency because of this man (and people's small minds). It's time for drastic measures.

White male for Obama   April 29th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

WHY CAN'T YOU DO THE SAME.

Jan: Oregon   April 29th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Why isn't the media launching an expose about Hillary's former paster and his child molestation convicition? This might help to shift the unfair press he gets because of Rev. Wright. He needs all the help he can get. We need him as the next president.

Marc in DeKalb, IL   April 29th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Clintonites can look forward to Obama NOT digging up dirt on her (see also: Hillary the Movie, various scandals, crimes she escaped punishment for by virtue of her secrecy) … but the Republicans will not be so kind.

So, HRC, give a loud "Amen" to all this Wright business… but know that for however damaging this is… your baggage is far more extensive and far more damaging.

… and if you somehow cheat a nomination, well, 60-some percent of America already finds you untrustworthy… imagine how much worse that will be once your crimes come to light? Again…?

America may have forgotten, but the Republicans can't WAIT to remind them when the time is right…

… but they know that Clinton will do their work for them in the primary, so why bother taking her out now?

Lauren Denver, CO   April 29th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

It will only help him more, his "Race" speech was amazing and was sooo good that people started to believe in him even more. This will be good, I can't wait to listen to it. I still think it's sad that this is such a huge story still… aren't there bigger more important stories to report on??

Obama 08

Mario   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I understand theimpact that Rev. Wright has had on Obama, however, I'm not voting for the Rev. Wright. We don't dismiss people we care about because they say something stupid. We dismiss the comments. I would rather be hearing about Obama's, Hillary's, and Mccains plans to lower gas prices, fix the mortgage crisis, regulate NCLB, the economy, and bring my brother home from Iraq.

I could care less who Obama has as friends, the public nor the media will let those undesireables partake in any white house political functions, so whats the deal. Lets be honest we all have a crazy uncle!!

Democrat, NC   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

No offense CNN, but I am very disappointed in your latest reporting style. Just reading the headlines in today's Political Ticker: "Clinton scores big endorsement" vs. "Obama shoots but does not score."
Vey objective!!

Cooper   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

What does Rev. Wright want? A pastor should be preaching to his congregation that doing what he is doing now. If the media treated you unfairly, let the GOD you serve be the judge and do not try to dig up old wounds. Please do us a favor and chill.

MARGARET FAIRCLOTH   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I THINK ITS TIME THAT THE MEDIA QUIT BEATING THIS HORSE. GARBAGE IS ALL THAT THIS NEWS COVERAGE IS. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE AND WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS. IT'S JUST DISGUSTING AND I'M READY TO STOP WATCHING CABLE NEWS.

Maria   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

More speech making won't change anything. Why won't he debate with Hillary Clinton without moderation? He knows he can't win a debate…he can only prepare speeches. What is he covering up?

I won't watch it. I'll just watch and read other news sources who interpret it. He is untrustworthy, and not my time to listen to his cover-up and deceiving of the Americans.

A 30 year old dolphin died at Sea World after colliding with another dolphin while doing tricks. Does anybody out there care?

Mainely Carol   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

David Gergan says the tone must be that of a fighter. However it seems that it Obama's nature is to be cool and calm under pressure ( as are all good cheif executives).
I wish he would just leave it and Mr Wright alone. The media web seemed to have died down today, The other media saw it for what it was a selfish destructive act by Rev. Wright. I think they were going to let it go. Obama just keeps picking at the wounds inflicted by this man… who no longer deserves the respect Obama gave him.

With any luck, Wright will slither back under his rock now that he has done his job and spread his poinsonous venom to hurt Obama.

Julia   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

Hopefully he will take questions from reporters - or will this be another rehersed speech? That's what I thought.

doubting   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

I'd like to know when this is going to be so I can TiVo it. Sen Obama has yet to explain how he has managed to remain uninfluenced by this man after listening to him for more than 15 years. The few side remarks Sen Obama has made indicate he is more aligned with Wright than he claims and I personally would like an explanation.

Cindy in California   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

This is why we can never get a good person elected, the winner of the contest is usually the one who can tear the other down, never mind that the past winner (Bush) had no good ideas.

As I listened to pres Bush this morning it occured to me that Gore should have been president. Bush has been president for 8 years and he has done absolutely nothing but blame congress and demand that someone else think of a solution and put it on his desk.

I have listened to our candidates propose many different solutions to our problems, and quite frankly have not heard Bush propose any solutions. But he has plenty of blame to go around. So while we are focusing on Rev. Wright, which has nothing to do with our economy, subprime loans or the mirad of other problems we are facing, nothing is getting done because suddenly nothing or no one matters but Rev. Wright. Last time I checked he was not on any ballot, and he has no thoughts on how to fix our economy. Move on already.

An American in Canada   April 29th, 2008 1:50 pm ET

SO HE IS GOING TO LISTEN TO HIS ADVISERS AND THROW REV. J. WRIGHT JR. UNDER THE BUS, AT LEAST IN THE EXPEDIENCY UNTIL THE ELECTIONS ARE OVER….

BUT, OBAMA YOU ARE ATTACHED AT THE HIP TO REV. WRIGHT, WHO HAS ALREADY PROMISED THAT IF YOU BECOME PRESIDENT HE WILL HOUND YOU AND MAKE YOU CHANGE LAWS AND PROGRAMS THAT WILL FURTURE AFRICAN-CENTRIC VALUES.

MANY PRESIDENT HAVE PASTORS, PRIEST ETC., WHOM THEY SPEAK BUT YOU OBAMA AND REV. WRIGHT HAVE A 20 YEARS BOND ACCORDING TO YOUR BOOK THAT IS PROFOUND AND WE BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE WHAT HE SAYS HE IS….

AND YOU CAN NOT BE TRUSTED TO BE A PRESIDENT FOR ALL AMERICANS….

Quinn   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I guess now he's ready to throw the crazy uncle under the bus. This, only after he's seen how Rev Wright's tour is messing with his campaign. Too late, it can only be considered a political move, not one of substance. Obama knew this guy was full of hate for the past 20 yrs.

PS. Please give our co-blogger THE REAL CHERYL a break. She seems enthusiastic but harmless.

Simone   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Obama is being persecuted over non-related political issues. Clinton's brought all of this trash up because they know there are voters who will believe them. I can see fooling some American people, but the people running the country…disgusting. Wright is trying to clear his name. Obama is coming to his rescue.

Tim Weaver   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

The media has chosen to make this an issue, unfortunately. There are far more important problems with both Obama's campaign and the country in general. Can't we focus on them?

Ann, California   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

The media is the one to keep blowing Wright all out of proportion. People care more about the important issues and about which candidate shows more integrity and grace. Not whose pastor is better and more acceptable.

David Laranjeira   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I don't understand why he even needs to say anything. This has been going on for far too long already. Would HC hold up under the same scrutiny?

OBAMA 08

hypocrisy   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Obama has campaigned on a theme of unity and hope and change…

But his campaign has used a strategy of divide and conquer by creating divisiveness. He has been THE most negative candidate out there- letting others do the dirty work of spreading hate, lies, rumors for him.

Then he actually mocked, jeered and demeaned Hillary with his Annie Oakley and brushing off his shoulders antics.

Obama is as smug, flippant, cocky, arrogant, bombastic, egotistical and narcisistic as Rev. Wright. We see it in his boasting and swaggering.

Stop pandering to Obama to help him steal this nomination from Clinton.

mary   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

Obama will probaly throw Wright under the bus again, but will pick him back up when no one is looking. Obama is getting scary!

Bushwacked in Eugene, OR   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

It's not so much CNN who keeps bringing this up as it is the Clintons and the Republicans. The news media don't help, of course, but keeping it front and center. Still, there will continue to be references in ads run by rivals.

These people all have skeletons in their closets — I wish we could just ignore all of them and focus on — gasp! — the issues!

J Huntington, WV   April 29th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

After listening to this man for twenty years, having him officiate his marriage to a woman, who by the way isn't proud to be an American, baptize his children, give him the title to his book, etc. Now he has something to say about him? WAKE UP PEOPLE! IF this is what you want in a Commander and Chief, perhaps you haven't really thought it through????

carolflowery   April 29th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Redman, it's an honor to post that Im glad you clarified that to the Rev. Wright, my three sons are Native American. At this point, I really dont care what Mr. Obama says to enlighten us on any issues. We had the
the Philadephia speech, Im starting to think these two are working in
sync with one anther to continue on with issue to just override any attention to anyone else, this is a game they have learned very well
from some very famous people who know exactly how to play the game. By the way, to the Kennedys, dont you take offense at all, Im shocked

Sad to say, but Senator Obama, it's time for you to end your relationship with Wright. Kudos to you when you stated in March when you stated you could not disown him anymore than you could disown your Grandmother, you really showed your loyalty, a wonderful quality.Unfortunately, Rev.Wright has not shown you the same respect, he is soaking up the limelight, only thinking of himself, not how his actions could ruin your chances of becoming our next President. So much for being a good Christian and Friend. It is a beautiful thing to show your devotion to someone, however,if by doing so is going to harm you, then you need put your welfare first and foremost. Unfortunately, we go through life and hurt by those we love and respect. Rev.Wiright did play a role in your life, but it seems that part of your life is now over, it's time to move on. I hope you find peace.

Affectionately,
One of your supporters

Maria   April 29th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

You know it's strange that there is so little reference to the fact that Wright was in the White House for Bill during his impeachment…what's the connection there? Could it be that the Clintons are somehow manipulating Wright? Perhaps, he owes them.

BTW, why is it that Hillary can call Obama elitist when she went to the most elite and snobbish of women's college's, Wellesley. Don't think her family was ever on food stamps, either. Let's hear the details.

Patrick   April 29th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

I think it's a real problem that Obama can't seem to stay on message. This will haunt him thoughout his time running for president. I think people are starting to realize there is still too much we don't know about Mr. Obama.

Redman said: "I'm Native American- not "indian", Rev. Wright.

Obama teach your preacher."

___________________________________________________

Congrats on knowing who you are but there was no "American" for you to be when the Europeans came to the land owned by "Indians". You obviously missed the point. Which was, and to quote him: "Unless you were Indian, we're all immigrants."

In case you don't get the gist of what that means - again - Indians owned the land that was later called "America" for which AFTERWARDS you are able to call yourself "Native American".

The "preacher" has taught YOU something. Learn something new everyday don't ya?

Judy   April 29th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Well this is going to be interesting. If Obama stands up for Wright…I don't know how I'm going to think about Wright. Because Wright did not appoligize AT ALL for ANYTHING he said.

Lorri   April 29th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

Pastor Wright has received too much press. He is not a candidate. At the end of the day his beliefs won't impact my daily life. Many Americans feel the way he does and many don't. So move on with the story please. Go hunting for something else to try to use against Obama. Maybe the media will find something that actually impacts the issues.

The media is following Wright as though he is a candidate. HE IS NOT!

dee, tx   April 29th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

I read on Yahoo that one person wouldn't vote for him because he couldn't control Wright. Shows he doesn't have leadership skills. THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY, FREEDOM OF SPEECH. This is just getting ridiculous. The way CNN play wright all day with everything going on in the world was journalism at his very worst.

He'll be talking about the issues - Hillary's camp is out trying to get him off message.

Just to keep this media-fabricated "debacle" in perspective, since PA Obama has scored 4 more superdelegates than Clinton:

OBAMA (7): Brad Henry (OK GOV), Audra Ostergard (NE DNC), David Wu (OR Rep), Charlene Fernandez (AZ DNC), Jeff Bingaman (NM SEN), Ben Chandler (KY Rep), Richard Machacek (IA DNC).

CLINTON (3): John Tanner (TN Rep), Kathy Sullivan (NH add on), Mike Easley (NC GOV).

I'm glad somebody is keeping track of who is WINNING.

Sean   April 29th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

It's a shame that he even has to. Hillary has yet to hold a press conference on even ONE of her lies, and Obama has to address this non-issue TWICE now. Wright and Obama are not the same person. Even McCain gets that. Why is the Clinton campaign trying to make such a deal out of this?

George   April 29th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

"Big Press Conference"……LOL

DC gal   April 29th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Another press conference?!? Come on Obama, do better, make time for a live debate where you can address these issues

DW   April 29th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

I know Barack will put this issue to rest once and for all. If there is anyone who questions Barack on this issue after this, then there is a devious motive behind it all; whether it be racism, or clintons trying to steal the presidency from him. Everyone is constantly saying how Barack has been negative lately. That's a bunch of you know what. He could have brought up many things against hillary, ie, Bosnia, Columbia, to name a few. He hasn't. So, stop w/ the mess and let them fight it out fairly. Wolf Blittzer, it is so obvious that you're a hillary fan. Stop, making it so obvious. And, NO, no one wants them on the same ticket. Hillary is such a manipultative, scheming and conniving you know what. That's oil and water — don't mix. So, forget about them on the same ticket because that definitely won't happen.

citizenwells   April 29th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

One more comment.
Jeremiah Wright's comments are important in NC!

angela   April 29th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Obama might as well "fess" up. Wright has been his spiritual leader for 20 years. NOONE would stay in a church and expose their children to a preacher's rantings that are expounding views that are against your beliefs. I would never subject my loved ones as Obama has done, to Wright's preachings of hate and racism.

mama4obama   April 29th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

I'm a big Obama supporter but this Wright guy is rediculous. I can't help but wonder if the Republicans or the Clintons are paying him. Talk about an ego, how can he claim to be about lifting up the black race when I he's doing is trying to ruin the chances for the first African American candidate who has a real shot of winning. So annoying.

Hillary, Liar from Day 1   April 29th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

The media should be asahemed of their pubic lynching of a half truth! Maybe the MEDIA should hold a press conference to atone for their media lynching for a lie created and nursed by the media. Hopefully Obama will call the media out for their rating based, race bait, and racist actions.

Black America had enough of this public lynching and we will NOT vote for Hilary!

Enough already!!! Is this racist on CNN part to constantly air Wright who is no running fo president. Next we will have McCain's mother, the Clintson's uncle, the store keeper, the teacher, the dog — enough is enough!! Get back to reporting the news.

Jay   April 29th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

How will Obama spin this one. This Typical White Person dosen't care how you spin it. Obama is a racist, just like his Preacher. .

20 YEARS!!!! He's not going to get off so easily this time.

obama 08   April 29th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

its clear that there trying to bring Obama down, with this stuff because its all they got on him. both the media and sen. Hillary Clinton should leave him alone and stop trying to tear him up because its only going to cause major harm to the democrats for years to come.

ex-Obama supporter   April 29th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

However hard Obama tries to sell himself. The people of Indiana have had enough of his nonsense and double standards. He is out of touch with most voters and has been riding just on the African American vote in the latter part of the race for the white house. His political tactics does not seem to be synonymous with the words that he utters. His change is just a slogan and not anything realistic or of substance. Now with the Wright incident:- Obama had first said that Wright was his spiritual mentor. A mentor guides a persons life/career. Obama has been with this pastor for 20 years. Has he not been influenced by divisive race sermons?
Obama has knocked up quite a few controversies the past few months. If all the states were to vote again, I feel that Hillary would win hands down. But unfortunately, there are not that many states left. So for all those voters who voted Obama and are now stuck with making the wrong choice yet again, sorry guys, but you just did it again. Never go for a book just by its cover. NEVER!!!.
All that glitters is not gold and that is true for BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.

Uncle Sam   April 29th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

True believers in an Obama presidency are prepared to support their candidate regardless of the growing number of questions being raised about him. They would have us believe that everything we need to know about Barack Obama can be found on his website or in his autobiography. Only what Obama tells us about himself is to believed. Anything else is a manufactured political distraction. So what are you going to believe - the Obama script or your lying eyes?

Change you can believe in…….change I can believe in…….

More damage control.
Too late.
Obama's campaign is imploding.
No amount of diversion and smooth talk
will help him now.

say what??!?!   April 29th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

who's Rev. Wright? was he in RUN DMC?

Mike - Texas   April 29th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

OBama has waited too long to address this issue, and had been caught making conflicting statements about it. (truth, lie, confused?)

Rev. Wright no longer cares what damage he is doing to OBama, because he has a book deal coming out in September and because of that, this issue will never die.

Deborah   April 29th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Thanks for once again allowing us to lose focus of the real issues facing Americans. You're doing a heck of a job…
