(CNN) - Hillary Clinton said Wednesday she personally took offense to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's recent comments, the New York senator’s harshest assessment yet of Barack Obama's former minister.
"I think it’s offensive and outrageous. I’m going to express my opinion, others can express theirs," Clinton told Fox’s Bill O'Reilly. "It is part of just, you know, an atmosphere we’re in today.”
The comments appear to be a shift in Clinton’s tone on the matter. On Tuesday she criticized Republican presidential nominee John McCain for not doing enough to stop Republican ads running in North Carolina and Mississippi that feature Wright's comments.
"I regret the efforts by the Republicans to politicize this matter," Clinton said of the ad.
Speaking at the National Press Club Monday, Wright did not back down from some of his controversial remarks, including those that seemed to suggest the U.S. government might be responsible for the spread of AIDS among African-Americans, and his equation of U.S. wartime efforts with terrorism.
Wright also said Obama was acting like a politician in denouncing his controversial sermons.
Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Obama said he was outraged with Wright's latest comments.
"What particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing," Obama said, adding that Wright had shown "little regard for me" and seemed more concerned with "taking center stage."
Obama also said Wright's comments were not only "divisive and destructive," but they "end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate."

The viper opens her mouth again
I don’t believe Wright is not the same man he met 20 years ago I believe Wright is and always will be the same man and Obama is once again positioning himself politically.
You can believe what you want, but there have been a number of members of that same church who have stated that Wright has, in fact, been acting quite differently than the man they used to see in church every week.
Hillary is the best canidate for the job.
I am outraged also. I understand Obama himself has expressed this same outrage, but what is troubling, is that it took this long for Obama to be outraged over comments made a long time ago.
hillary should have added hateful, and anti american too. she also should have said for a harvard educated man not to pick up on the hate after 2 decades obama is not ready to be the president of the united states!
I agree Hillary! We now have photos of one of your supporters who invited Rev. Wright to this event!
This is not going to help you win Hillary.
This race is over and Obama is going to win!
I am looking for the day when you are dragged off the stage!
Go Obama!
Once again, Obamabots are way off base (big surprise there!). Hillary did not bring up Rev. Wright, she was asked a direct question and answered it. How difficult is that to grasp? Guess what – Obama is going to be answering these questions from now until he either loses the Dem primary or loses the GE ( he will lose the GE). Get used to it and get over it Obamabots. Hillary is entitled to her opinion. She was asked for it, and she gave it, end of story. Obama made his own bed on this one. No spin can change that.
In the mean time, latest polls have Hillary leading Obama nationally, and McCain as well. Looks like the tide has indeed turned.
Hillary 08
Hillary... can not shut up...
ShShShShShShut up...
Shut up... I say....
Shut up... today...
We have no use for lies in May...
We have no use for you today...
Shut your face and go away!
Says "We the People" USA.
All hell will break loose if this women is elected as the nominee. I fear that there will be riots in the streets. But worse yet, the Dems will lose the White House, and as they have for the past eight years, Americans will suffer.
This is why the Clintons don't deserve the whitehouse. She goes on fox noise, she has Murdock throw her a fundraiser, she has her husbands old press secretary ask a question poised by Hannity, she has a meeting with the guy who tried his best to make her husband out to be a murderer. She wouldn't even be this close if it wern't for Rush and his dito head votes going her way. She cries, and lies! She knows the math makes her the loser and promotes the opponent, while tearing done her party and the obvious winner. PLEASE JUST GO AWAY
Enough of this dishonest, pandering win at any cost candidate.
Take Bill and head home.....we are sick of all of the clintons!
Now let's see if this "double-speak" makes the evening news.
Going graveling on Billo ! She has no SHAME. What's next ? Sitting on the lap of Rush Limbaugh ? That woman will stoop to nothing. I will never vote for her, ever, whether she has the nomination or not. And I am from New York and will never support her for any office.
I beleive nothing Obama has said regarding Reverend Wright. Obama was oblivious for 20 years to this man? If that is so – he does not have the obvious material needed to be President! I am with Clinton, Reverend Wrights words are offensive and devisive!!!!!!!!
Obama sat and listened to it, embrased this guy for years – as did his wife and he exposed his kids to this person! Bad judgment from every level – unless of course it was for political gain. Now that I would believe!!!!!!!!!!
Hillary does not have the integrity to tell anyone what is offensive.
Frankly ...this article...you know...offends me!!!
Ok. Wright's comments were offensive. Obama's outraged too. Time to move on. New topic, please.
W-O-W
Better duck Obama – here comes yet another kitchen sink.
Please IN and NC – do the country a favor and vote for Obama so this woman can ride her broom off into the sunset!
Hey ...how come CNN not talking about "Clinton's proposal on gas tax cut
MSNBC is talking about it
What a hypocrite. When you run out of stories to tell, then what? The truth, I don't believe that.
Obamabots are pathological. You people need to grow up and get lives. Hateful children.
Wow, Hillary is on the O'Reilly show... shocking! I like how the gas "tax holiday" is being called the McCain-Clinton gas strategy, which fits right in with the right wing because it helps oil companies maintain high profits and encourages consumers to use more gas. She should just switch sides and become McCain's running mate. Hillary sounds more and more like a republican everyday.
To clarify.....I listened to parts of the interview on a preview, and she was really pushed by Riley to say what she thought of Wrights comments! It's not a dead issue, to anyone other than his die-hard supporters
Now she is back... she is allways late in her comment , even the sniper shot. it itakes her the video from the bbc to explain that she makes a mistake.. after taht she repeated it more than once How many mistake she is done and nobody still talk about lile this one Paul vs Clinton on google..How people could event think she could be a president, she can even control her husband...
