Clinton calls Wright comments 'offensive and outrageous'

 Clinton sharply criticized Wright Wednesday.
Clinton sharply criticized Wright Wednesday.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton said Wednesday she personally took offense to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's recent comments, the New York senator’s harshest assessment yet of Barack Obama's former minister.

"I think it’s offensive and outrageous. I’m going to express my opinion, others can express theirs," Clinton told Fox’s Bill O'Reilly. "It is part of just, you know, an atmosphere we’re in today.”

The comments appear to be a shift in Clinton’s tone on the matter. On Tuesday she criticized Republican presidential nominee John McCain for not doing enough to stop Republican ads running in North Carolina and Mississippi that feature Wright's comments.

"I regret the efforts by the Republicans to politicize this matter," Clinton said of the ad.

Speaking at the National Press Club Monday, Wright did not back down from some of his controversial remarks, including those that seemed to suggest the U.S. government might be responsible for the spread of AIDS among African-Americans, and his equation of U.S. wartime efforts with terrorism.

Wright also said Obama was acting like a politician in denouncing his controversial sermons.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Obama said he was outraged with Wright's latest comments.

"What particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing," Obama said, adding that Wright had shown "little regard for me" and seemed more concerned with "taking center stage."

Obama also said Wright's comments were not only "divisive and destructive," but they "end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate."

WOW – Obama preaches non-divisive politics – but his supporters sure know how to be divisive and bitter!!

Every ticker here has Obama folk hammering away – if I didn't know better I would think this was a campaign strategy too!

I would agree if Hillary said Rev Wright is a racist and a selfish, careless nutcase, who saw an opportunity for himself.
But SHE is a liar, corrupt, hypocritical panderer and a sneak. Under all that "righteous indignation" lies FACTS about the pending Peter Paul case, which if the BHO camp was behaving like her, would be all over his ads by now in all 50 states, Bills racist remarks would've been too, as would her vote and support for the unending debacle in Iraq.

She should be honored to be running against a dignified human being who doesnt stoop to the pit to meet her on her terms

I think/believe she is free to say this...remember it's about hate speech-not about tit for tat(Bill C. did this or Hillary has that friend)-Obama should've thrown him under the bus 2 months ago-now it's conveinient for him to do so-Why?-what was he afraid of 2 months ago?-remember hate is hate-I find it quite amusing that Obama supporters praised him for standing by this WACKADOO-but now it's just the opposite-his supporters are now saying"good for him for coming out to denounce Rev. Wright"-

Stop the "I hate Hlllary crap"(those comments are small and base)

Poor poor Rev Wright and poor poor Obama.
Why should the Rev take responsibility for the hateful things he said and why should Obama take responsibility for listening to the Rev for 20 years and lying about it?!?
They're just poor victims of that mean old Hillary Clinton!!

OBAMA's denounce of Pastor Rev.Wright is for POLITICAL Show only...He was DANCING and CLAPPING with others at Rev.Wright for 20 years and now only you are making PUBLIC about your denounce...the main purpose of the denounce is to get votes rather than to focus on issues. ONCE, this election is over and done...I am sure OBAMA will go back to his PASTOR and tell him that he had to denounce him at that moment under the circumstances of the media frenzy and his stake at the presidential race. OBAMA will be like, Ohh "I am Sorry and it wasn;t intentional" to his pastor.

It's politics, PEOPLE!!!!!!!! Stop coddling Obama like he's a puppy! If you have to be so defensive and offensive anytime anyone says anything about him then he's obviously not the right one for the job!! Obama supporters seem to think that Obama is the only one who can express an opinion, 'cos that's exactly what it is, an opinion... grow up!

Obnoxiously vilifying person. I think Clintons are in the last phase of their own destruction. Let the show go on. At the end, the only one left holding the bag with complete destruction is Clintons

Hilary Clinton is useless. All she does is talk about what she would have done, and we should do this stupid thing (cut the gas tax and save 30 dollars in a month) or that stupid thing (OBLITERATE Iran if they attack so and so).

If Americans are stupid enough to not see through her antics, then they deserve higher gas prices, a worsening of the mortgage crisis, etc.

You can sit there and say Obama is full of empty rhetoric and is a hypocrite, etc. I feel sorry for you for not being able to actually research what you are talking about. It is a shame that a majority of the bell curve seems to fall for Hilary's stoopid antics.

Hillary you are playing a double and most manipulative role. It was you perhaps who asked B. Reynolds to invite this Rev. Wright to press club and now playing this innocent card.

Come on! What do you take most of the Americans as? You are exposing yourself by the minute and showing who you really are.

    Obama ...08!

Who cares what Hill says about Wright. It's all out there anyway.
It doesn't matter that she made a comment, no less on the O'Reilly show.

It is troubling that so many citizens can even find a way to denigrate Sen. Clinton because of something that Sen. Obama's minister and "spiritual guide" has said. Did HRC push Wright to go to the National Press Club and make such outrageous remarks? Even Senator Obama has stated on the record that Wright's actions and comments are fair grounds of political inquiry and comment precisely BECAUSE of his close relationship to Rev. Wright. WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE ABOUT Sen. Clinton doing every devious thing possible to discredit Sen. Obama? I hardly think she controls what Rev. Wright says or whom Sen. Obama chooses to mentor him.

Maybe, one day you'll all realize he'll drive this country into the ground.

I can say I was offended by the words as an American citizen also... Why can Hillary not say the same? Is she not an American? Can she not respond? These comments were outrageous, and since she was directly asked about them, she gave her honest opinion. Why are we asking questions of her when Sen. Obama was the person who sat in his church and heard is ideology for 20 years. Wait, I forgot, Rev. Wright only gave one offensive sermon: the Sunday Sen. Obama was absent.
