Cindy McCain appeared on Leno Wednesday night.

BURBANK, California (AP) — John McCain wants to take the helm of the country. Just don't let him take the wheel of the car.

His wife, Cindy McCain, confided to Jay Leno on Wednesday that the former Navy fighter pilot is a not exactly Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the freeways.

"He's not the best of drivers," she said on "The Tonight Show" on NBC. "I drive most of the time."

Even Leno joked about the Republican presidential candidate's command of the roads.

"If he was elected president, he would be the only president ever to do a burnout in my Corvette," Leno said.

McCain has faced questions about his age throughout the campaign — if elected in November, he'd be 72 and the oldest man to become president. But his wife said the Arizona senator is so vigorous he plans to hike in the Grand Canyon with his sons this summer.

But it's not the first time age has been a touchy issue for McCain.

When the couple first met at a party — she was a 25-year-old teacher, he was a 42-year-old Navy officer separated from his wife — they fibbed about their ages. Cindy McCain added four years to her age, while McCain lopped four years off his.

"We found out when we applied for our marriage license — they publish it in the newspaper," she told Leno.

And they didn't exactly hit it off at the party.

"He kind of chased me around … an hors d'oeuvre table," she said. "I was trying to get something to eat and I thought, 'You know, this guy's kind of weird."'

Funny how Leno is pandering to the McCains –
R-E-W-I-N-D to 2004, remember all the Leno jokes about Kerry's wealthy 'ketuchup' Heinz wife ?
Different times - - Different standards !!

Kel from Auburn AL   May 1st, 2008 10:22 am ET

Funny

Well, if he can't drive a car, then there is that whole issue of driving the economy to worry about.. Just staying in the lane of national wealth might be tough with this guy ;)

Wow, and McCain's in touch! Half of America can't even afford to buy a plane ticket!

His wife, Cindy McCain, confided to Jay Leno on Wednesday that the former Navy fighter pilot is a not exactly Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the freeways. "He's a little more like Dale Sr., circa his final race at Daytona," she said, to an uproar of laughter. "Only he's not dead yet."

Jay   May 1st, 2008 10:26 am ET

If Obama CONS Superdelegates and Americans into voting for him and he is the nomination, I will be voting for McCain!

Well Cindy, it was nice meeting you. Unfortunately your husband lost the race when he changed 90% of his positions to get the nomination. I salute you Mr. McCain for your service to your country, I feel somewhat sorry that you'll never get your dream of the presidency. Your time was in 2000, but you got BUSHwacked by the POS that should never had the chance to get in. Too bad, you had positions America could agree with then… not now.

Girl 2   May 1st, 2008 10:33 am ET

Neutral   May 1st, 2008 10:33 am ET

John McCain is an honorable man, many criticize him, he paid his dues to this country. I wouldn't mind calling him Mr. President next year.

Tired of W, OH   May 1st, 2008 10:34 am ET

McCain's like one of those senior citizens you hear about on the news. "A 72 year-old man became confused between the brake and the accelerator and plowed into a crowd of people."

Do we really want him getting confused between the red button and the green button? "Now which one of them launches the nuclear missile?…"

Pro-Democracy   May 1st, 2008 10:35 am ET

Too easy!

Hillary McCain   May 1st, 2008 10:35 am ET

Cindy is a beautiful woman.

She's definitely not living in white rural small-town America though! Looks like a billion dollars.

It must be nice to be married to a rich person and not have to worry.

Tony, Miami   May 1st, 2008 10:35 am ET

Don't let him take any wheel period. the wheel of war, the social security, the economy, health care and particularly the wheel of the white house. The only wheel you should let him take it's the wheel of fortune (yoursCindy).

Nancy   May 1st, 2008 10:36 am ET

Oh! Don't worry Cindy ,he won't be behind any wheel whatsoever.

Why should successful Americans–pursuing liberty and happiness–have to subjugate ourselves to ugly, boring, and socialist thinking liberal politcal leaders–who've never done a thing to make a dime for anyone else in this country?

Bad drivers do not have good judgment. How can he lead America if he doesn't have good judgment. Rise up democrat to win this November. Let get beyond all the nonsense this compaign had bring and let us all vote democratic. Hillary we get it and you and Bill cannot fool us with that summer gas tax break. This not going to solve the problem and I just realize that her summer gas tax break and McCain gas tax break are political manupulation to blind us to help them win.
We need a long term fix and summer gas tax break is not it.

Grumpy old men   May 1st, 2008 10:41 am ET

Wow is this news . Plus in most states when you get to that age . DMV normally takes your driver's license away anyway . If you can't drive a car why are you worrying about gas prices anyway . More republican pandering . Hey John if you are quick they have one more opening in the nursing home here .

Ephy   May 1st, 2008 10:42 am ET

McCain a bad driver? Of course, he's old. What it is John is up to?
Can any body please name at least one?

Pam   May 1st, 2008 10:43 am ET

Veterans are against him……….a war hero, doesn't that tell you something.

The suicide rate in the military……………he wants to continue that.

What does that tell you about them?

John   May 1st, 2008 10:43 am ET

too old to drive, sorry   May 1st, 2008 10:44 am ET

There is such a thing as being too old to drive. Too old to be president, too.
Have you noticed that as he speaks (McBush) that he gets "irritated"? Kind of angry and fumbling for words.

I do NOT want this doddering old man as my next president, please.

mary landsfind   May 1st, 2008 10:45 am ET

could it be that he is too old to make proper judgment, which makes him a poor driver?

i know that my grandparents, who used to be fine drivers in their youth, don't drive any more because their age affects their judgment now-a-days…..

Marilyn   May 1st, 2008 10:45 am ET

Yes, McCain is too old and he is a warmonger. However, if Obama is his opponent in November, this democrat will be voting for him anyway. Sad, but a reality.

John is not only a bad driver, he is now a bad liar. This morning
he is all concerned about Health Care. And he voted against the
GI Bill as it stands, because he wants the men to re-enlist instead
of getting the hell out and getting an education. The GI bill has
been a godsend to our American Soldiers thru the years.

juang   May 1st, 2008 10:48 am ET

For those of you dolt heads that say you will vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination…

Are you rich or something? Do you have an abundance of independent wealth?

If not, which is most likely, then you must be out of your mind to vote for McCain in any circumstance, be it Hillary, Barack, or Donald Duck.

Why would you vote for more people to lose their homes and jobs? Why would you vote for a continuation of a recession unless you are financially secure?

You know this is not going to end as long as Republicans maintain power. The Bush family owns oil companies and they do business with the ARABS. Yes, the Arabs that you call terrorists. They are all making money hand over fist so there is no plan to end this gasoline fiasco anytime soon.

Bush should have been ousted a long time ago. If you vote McCain out of spite or jealousy or racism or hatred or even just plain stupidity, I will find you wherever you may be, whether in a barn yard, or fox hole or homeless shelter begging for bread. And I will say to you…

YOU GOT JUST WHAT YOU DESERVE FOR VOTING THE WAY YOU DID.

shirley   May 1st, 2008 10:48 am ET

I care even less about Cindy's corvette than I do about Obama's pastor. Iran's response to United Nations about Hillary's comment that she would obliterate them is real front page news, doesn't CNN report real news and actual facts anymore?

stag   May 1st, 2008 10:49 am ET

The First Lady is a defacto representative of our country (that would be the USA in case you don't know).

Do you think this is the first time that Cindy is proud to be an American? No way…make the Obamas go away.

Being a war hero does not get you through the doors of the White House. Standing besides Bush slams the door shut. 2 years ago I would have voted for him. Not now. His and Clinton's idea on the gas tax is a joke. Short time fix (if even that) that will cost a lot more in the future.

Donald from SC   May 1st, 2008 10:50 am ET

Why is that the news mdeia NEVER publishes what other news medias are saying world-wide? Maybe because most countries have less than a 5% approval rating for Senator McCain for President. Where is his so-called foreign policy skills now?

Senator Clinton has a worst rep. since she threaten to attack another country with nukes!

Kareem from Hampton VA   May 1st, 2008 10:51 am ET

Overall I am a staunt Obama supporter however Cindy McCain is such a regal and beautiful lady and behind that twinkle in her eye you can see the mind of a brilliant woman and tenacious woman! The obvious disparity between her and John's finances says alot about her character! Hopefully one day we will be allowed to fully see her prowess…

JC   May 1st, 2008 10:51 am ET

I thank Jay Leno for inviting Cindy McCain for a light evening.

Senator McCain has a hard time with being open about his personal life. He doesn't like to talk about his 6 POW years and neither does he like to talk about his Marine son in Iraq. He doesn't think he should use their family tradition - service to our country - to pander for votes.

Senator McCain also believes that tortures are not to be tolerated no matter who your enemy is. He doesn't criticize Rev. Wright harshly, because he fought for freedom of speech and almost died for it.

On the other hand, Hillary has no idea what it means to serve the country, other than dividing the Dem party and country bitterly every day. She knew well that she won't be President in 2009, but she wants to be sure that Obama isn't, either so she can run again in 2012.
How can a bitter person serve our country?

One good thing is that President McCain won't have to drive when he is the President and neither does Cindy. She is much more friendly than John Kerry's wife, who is also rich.

An American   May 1st, 2008 10:51 am ET

And that's why we don't want him driving our country

Bill   May 1st, 2008 10:53 am ET

I guess McCain is trying to sidestep his support of the dead-end Iraq war and economic incompetence by sending his Stepford wife on to Leno for some jokes.

Chris, Denver CO   May 1st, 2008 10:53 am ET

I'm more worried about his bad policy than his bad driving.

Dave in Atlanta   May 1st, 2008 10:54 am ET

Leave McCain alone. There weren't any cars when he was growing up.

Cynthia   May 1st, 2008 10:55 am ET

I respect Senator McCain's service to America but if some veterans have a problem with him it should make others take a closer look at his record for helping or not helping veterans. For me the fact that he wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years - whether fighting or not is enough for me to go in the other direction. With all the other things that going on around the world - what if we have to deploy more troops somewhere else? Where will they come from - a draft?

J   May 1st, 2008 10:57 am ET

Ooh, John's a stalker. Nice.

Uncle Sam   May 1st, 2008 10:57 am ET

I feel for John McCain. He has been mistreated badly, worst than most of us can imagine. He's been mocked, ridiculed, roughed up, rejected, and left for dead. And that's just his experience in Washington! Many of us don't seem to know what to make of Sen. McCain. He's a conservative! No, he's a liberal! Wait, he's a moderate! The truth is that John is just trying to be himself within a system that insists he stay within a political box. John is everyman. He's doing the best he can, under difficult circumstances, to remain true to himself and the country he loves. I understand that, given our political climate, the odds are stacked against a McCain victory. Call me idealistic, but I believe that he's the American president Americans have been waiting for. They just don't know it yet.

Justin   May 1st, 2008 10:59 am ET

John cannot even be trusted behind the wheel. Imagine him behind the desk at the Oval Office, he'd accidentally drop a few nukes while figuring out what to watch on TV.

Why does the media insist on printing the McCain campaign spin about the timing of John and Cindy's affair? John McCain was NOT separated from his first wife when he began a very public affair with the much younger and richer Cindy,

Come on reporters do at least a smidgen of research instead of swallowing this foolishness.

John McCain was still living with his wife and children at the time! There are numerous articles about his in reputable new s papers and dsome have gotten quotes from McCain about his shame for his treatment of the woman who stayed loyal to him while he was held as a POW and raised their children on her own

Ilona Proud Canadian   May 1st, 2008 11:05 am ET

Good morning folks!

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with the above comment "I drive most of the time" by Cindy McCain?

First of all, I am sure that the McCains are chauffeur driven most of the time… But this is no big deal, we are not gullible, we accept this as a given. What really scares me is…. Sen. McCain is not a very good driver…. as stated by his wife, if this is true, what else is Sen. McCain not capable of doing? Is this the person you want answering that 3.a.m. call? I know some of us have been wondering just why whenever we see or hear Sen. McCain, we feel that there is always something wrong with this guy, but we just can't put our finger on it. I think this guy is being spoon fed by his campaign strategist, Is he really going to be able to take the reins in running the country? or is he going to be a silent partner and continue to be spoon fed? Maybe I am being unfair to him!! but it just strikes me that he is a bit senile. Sorry folks I don't mean to be harsh, I am just expressing my opinion.

Who really believes that Jim Clyburn is not already completely supporting Barack Obama? Clyburn voted in his own SC primary and no doubt voted for Obama. Do you think he voted any differently? Clyburn beats up on Bill Clinton every time Bill takes a strong stand against Obama but what has Clyburn publicly said about how Obama or his surrogates have attacked Hillary? Jim Clyburn is not neutral in this election and Bill Clinton did not play the race card. Obama played the race card in SC when Obama repeatedly told black crowds that Bill Clinton was trying to "BAMBOOZLE, HOODWINK, run a HOKEY DOKE" (words taken directly from MALCOM X's statements to BLACKS that WHITE America had brainwashed them) on them by saying that Obama's Iraq position was a "fairy tale". Clyburn never called Obama to task for playing the race card. (By the way, I'm African-American).

THIS DODDERING PATRIOTIC OLD MAN IS GOING TO BE PRESIDENT> GOD BLESS JOHN MCCAIN TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY WE SHOULD FEEL HONOURED INSTEAD WE WANT A MAN WHO WILL NOT PUT HIS HAND OVER HIS HEART DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM

The Dude   May 1st, 2008 11:42 am ET

Not only is McCain a bad driver, he has no idea how to work a computer.

JP   May 1st, 2008 11:43 am ET

I can't trust a person who is worth 100 million - who owns 8 homes - a private jet - to know what its like to struggle from day to day, from paycheck to paycheck. McCain included, because whatever I have my husband has. Might as well say he is worth 100 million.

And why does he even take one dollar in pay when he doesn't need it if he is so interested in serving the country.

McCain might have suffered as a POW - but that doesn't take away the fact that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and doesn't have any good ideas.

Money Walks   May 1st, 2008 11:43 am ET

How fortunate for Cindy to be an heiress married to an influential senator. When the mother of four stole drugs from her own non-profit and forged prescriptions in order to feed her drug habit, she received a slap on the hand instead of prison time.

MONEY TALKS…AND WALKS!

A CANUCK   May 1st, 2008 11:43 am ET

Please Cindy …take John to the dentist and get hisn"whistle" removed.

Funny, Jay Leno predicted this would happen!

Dale Wise   May 1st, 2008 11:45 am ET

Sorry, but if you cannot drive well, you sure as heck should not be president of the United States. Someone who cannot drive well does not elicit respect.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   May 1st, 2008 11:46 am ET

Arizona temperatures get up to 118 degrees in the summer and the Grand Canyon is hotter. Trust me John McCain will not be "hiking" in the Grand Canyon. At 72 years old his mind may be willing but the body says NO, I've hiked it and it's no place for an old man who has been sitting behind a desk for 30 years or more. McCain can't hike Sqaw Peak Mountain and that's in his own backyard. Cindy needs to keep it real, her husband is too old.

Thank you CNN   May 1st, 2008 11:54 am ET

I'm glad you've finally found some real, pertinent news to report on.

Herman in LA   May 1st, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Jay,

We don't give a darn if you vote for McCain, you can vote for whoever you want to vote for.

TIME IS NOW FOR UNITY   May 1st, 2008 12:00 pm ET

time to unite the clans. no more bashing. I support obama and will vote for him in NC because he will win the nomination and we have to come to that realization.
I support Clinton as VP on the ticket. It is us vs Rush Limbaugh and Bill Oreilly and John Mccain.
COME ON DEMS, LET'S NOT THEM CREATE CHAOS! UNITE THE CLANS!

Laura V, NJ   May 1st, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Please tell me why we are supposed to care about this.

CNN needs to put relevant issues on here!

susie   May 1st, 2008 12:02 pm ET

So many people ridicule McCain for his marriage to Cindy. So many people ridicule Hillary for staying with Bill. So many of these same people who ridicule McCain and Hillary and are Obama supporters are not even married to their children's daddy.

“I don't like warriors. Too narrow-minded, no subtlety. And worse, they fight for hopeless causes. Honor? Huh! Honor's killed millions of people, it hasn't saved a single one.” – Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg

Jennifer   May 1st, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Now we have Hillary who doesn't know how to pump gas,and work a coffee machine.Plus she doen't know what "RED BULL energy drink is.
Now we have John McCain who basically doesn't know how to drive.
I wonder who really are the ELITISTS,and out of touch with the real people.

paul oregon   May 1st, 2008 12:08 pm ET

may she can drive mccain an bush around they both seem to be lost

Vig   May 1st, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Cindy McCain came off as a real person on Leno last night. When she's on stage with her husband, she comes across as a stiff. I guess that's what happens when you have to stand around and look pretty all day and keep your mouth shut.

chatmandu   May 1st, 2008 12:09 pm ET

I'm surprised the headline didn't read "John McCain is a liar and bad driver". I wouldn't put it past the left wing nuts.

JC   May 1st, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Veterans against McCain stop your pathetic "swift boat 2.0″ campaign against him. We don't need more of that junk. He has more decency than either Obama or Hillary.

I would much rather have McCain that that liar Hillary or far-left Obama all his false talk. At least McCain won't tear apart the military budget and waste it on ineffective welfare programs. His Iraq policy is not perfect but it is better than letting the new Iraqi government collapse and let our enemies claim we were defeated.

Darth Vadik, CA   May 1st, 2008 12:12 pm ET

He's too old to drive a car, how can he be president.

oh yeah - "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed."

Belle   May 1st, 2008 12:13 pm ET

Hmmm…Col Vaughn and Admiral Byrd mapped the South Pole in 1929.
Adm Byrd named a mountain after Col. Vaughn. He said he would climb it someday.

He STARTED trying to reach the summit at age 85…he tried again at 86, and again at 87…at 88, it was his FINAL attempt. His wife went with him, and he turned 89 during the climb. When they reached the summit, his wife stuck 89 sparklers in the top and lit them….then told Vaughn it was the BIGGEST Birthday cake he would ever get!

McCain is a spring chicken!

Always for OBAMA   May 1st, 2008 12:14 pm ET

I love how Democrats accuse Republican's of dirty tactics re:the Wright saga even when both Huck and McCain have said it wouldn't affect Obama, yet whenever there is a story about this Democrats rush in with not only ageist remarks but cheap, mindless and bitter jabs like "how can he drive the economy if he can't drive a car". It's amazing to me the hypocrisy shown in actions like this.

I wrote this before and it never got past "moderation" So once again=
McCain is NOT a war hero. He is a good man, I am sure, but not a war hero. The thousands who died there in that terrible war are the real heros.
The pundits say he was shot down in Viet Nam. He was not shot down. He was brought down.He landed safely and was captured.Had he been shot down, he would not be alive today.
Remember the 747 Korean air line plane the Russians SHOT down?
Everyone on that plane died!

Different Mike   May 1st, 2008 12:26 pm ET

One more reason to vote for him in November. The best anyone on this page could come up with was "his age", "his rich beautiful wife", and the same old "Mcbush BS" which everyone knows on a Republican scale he and Bush are so far apart they're in different zip codes. If this is the best that the Liberal left can come up with compared to Wright, Ayers, Farrakhan, Rezco and plain experience than November is going to be even easier than I thought.

Cindy iz pretty hot fer an old woman. I'd bang her.

For the Love of God   May 1st, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Wow, there are some lame people posting here. First off, I know many bad drivers that are 50 years younger than John McCain. In fact, I abhore driving with my 31 year old sister. She brakes too late and too hard, and I feel like we're going to run into the car ahead of us. She's been in two accidents, too. She is simply not a great driver.

Second, I bet John McCain can't shoot a basketball well…but Obama can't bowl, either.

What in the world does that tell us about their ideas?

Bash McCain about is ideology, but because he's not a good driver? If CNN readers are a cross-section of America…yikes, we are in a sad state.

Navyvet8192   May 1st, 2008 12:30 pm ET

I know you guys at CNN are in a hurry to get things for us to blog about today, but please take a moment to read the headline of your post before you post it. Unless of course it's kids day at the office and somebody's child did this, then "Carry On" in naval terms.

JC   May 1st, 2008 12:30 pm ET

John McCain served out country with a solid record and he doesn't like to brag about it.

Hillary Clinton lied about dodging sniper fire in Bosnia as this is the best she could say about her service to our country.

Hillary had no idea what it means to serve with her act other than with her bitter words.

madvista   May 1st, 2008 12:33 pm ET

Once again we have the nasty people bashing another candidate. I'm a democrat but I would rather see McCain in the White House than Obama. At least he doesn't come with all the baggage and a nasty wife.

Jessica   May 1st, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Cindy McCain and says John a bad driver

What kind of headline is that supposed to be?!?

Tom Swift, Shopton USA   May 1st, 2008 12:46 pm ET

'

Has anyone ever seen either Hillary or Obama behind the wheel of a car? Do they drive? Thousands of hours of video of Hillary over the last 15 years… can anyone produce a video of Hillary actually driving a vehicle ??? I've seen a lot of video of her with her driver… how does having a driver relate to the average American ? Today she rode up to the pumps with some guy in a pick-up… could she have driven it to the pump and filled the tank herself, on her own? Huh?

McCain is boring. that's all I have to say

MS in SC   May 1st, 2008 12:54 pm ET

If he was able to fly a jet off of the deck of a carrier ship and land it in one piece, why can't he now drive a car well? 'Makes me suppose that maybe his physical skills are less sharp at seventy-one than a much younger man. I'm certainly less physically able now than I was 40 years ago!

Sharon in Tahlequah, Ok   May 1st, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Maybe she and the children should intervene to take his driver license. I'm sure that my children will do that for me when I become to old to drive safely.

Janet, Arizona   May 1st, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Nice job with the headline. Heck of a job, CNN !! As usual. Is there anyone at CNN who is versed in grammar???

Leo in Nevada   May 1st, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Shut up all you Right Wing Extremist! There are Democrats who actually like the Maverick. Go McCain, you are our country's hero. You have my vote if Obama is the Dem's nominee.

Richard, St. Paul, MN   May 1st, 2008 12:58 pm ET

Cindy says John can't drive. John says he knows little of economics. I say he'd make a horrible president who would drive the economy into the ground and turn America into a third world toilet country like Mexico.

Mike   May 1st, 2008 1:00 pm ET

To all those who fault Mrs. McCain for having $$$, get over yourselves!

Would you deny or apologize for her riches if they were yours; I think not!

Get off your high horse!

Mike   May 1st, 2008 1:07 pm ET

To Pam,

…Shame on you!

NOT all Veterans are against MCCain, John McCains heroism should NEVER be factored into a statement/comment followed by a negative.

If you want to say something negative about McCain, then say it, though ONLY comment his heroism and what he encountered, to compliment this gentleman.

Have some respect!!!!

Hussein Ahmed   May 1st, 2008 1:10 pm ET

John McCain bad driver?, I thoughthe'd have hard time holding on to the steering wheel? :-)

On a serious note: He appears to be one of those drivers who often curse and get mad at other drivers on the road. This guy is a "career politician" and should think about retirement in AZ or FL.

And we should let him drive the country. From a 10 year army veterans point of view I want to with his time in captivity. What is his true mental state. We know back same as now soldiers got little to no true mental care. Maybe as a Senator he has received care that most soldiers are deprived of. Where is his long history of standing up for veterans care the GI Bill etc. I worry this man is a walking time bomb, YES keep him out of the drives seat. He should RETIRE to Florida we have plenty of foreclosed property to choose from.

Cindy McCain reminds me of a Stepford Wife. Instead of "Driving Ms. Daisy," she will be Driving Grampa McCain around. I am sure his eyesight is failing, geez, the man is 71 years of age. Why isn't he on the golf course with Cindy driving him around.

People need their heads examed if they vote for him because Hillary does not get nomination. All of Hillary supporters must be elitists like her and don't care about their childrens future, their pocketbook, health care or the war in Iraq. No wonder only stupid people vote for Hillary. What a bunch of idiots if Obama wins the Democratic nomination. Hillary supporters would rather vote for an old man who is sure to guarantee four more years of foreclosures, our children dying in Iraq, no health care and continued rising gas prices just because they do not want to see a biracial president. Yeah her supporters are all the dump ones.

Obama 2008.

Sharon Minnesota   May 1st, 2008 1:36 pm ET

My husband is 73 and I am 67. He's not so hot at driving either, so I do most of the driving. However, he is a retired accountant and takes care of all our financial business. He also takes care of any bullies that come into our lives to upset us.

I think that John McCain will do just fine with bullies or terrorists and the economy if he gets in.

I am still hoping to vote for Hillary Clinton come November but if not, John McCain will be a much better choice than Mr. Obama.

Hmm..........   May 1st, 2008 1:39 pm ET

John McCain could very well make history too. He is 72 years old…..his life expectancy at his age is less than a presidential term.

4 MORE YEARS!!   May 1st, 2008 1:41 pm ET

I hope McCain hears the call of the TRUE American People and nominates Bush or Cheney for the VP slot!!

Yeah for individual thought.

Yeah for good looking wives.

Yeah for fast cars.

Yeah for individual effort, accountability, responsibility, and citizenship.

No to socialism, reducing, dampening or eliminating the intelectual institutions, inspiration and opportunities, and enormous creative potential of Americans to accommodate some socialist dream.

Nature, God, reality rewards creativity and effort. Attempts to reward those who contribute nothing–result in meaningless expenses and wasted effort.

Uncle Sam   May 1st, 2008 2:31 pm ET

I feel for John McCain. He has been mistreated badly, worst than most of us can imagine. And that's in the political battles he has waged. Many have a hard time defining him because he doesn't fit easily into exclusive conservative/liberal categories. John is doing the best he can, under difficult circumstances, to remain true to himself and the country he loves. Call me idealistic, but I believe that he's the American president Americans have been waiting for. They just don't know it yet.

Lisa   May 1st, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Though I am a Democrat, it was really a good overall interview. Cindy McCain surprised me with her candor and she's funny! Not only did she learn to fly a plane (and bought one), she flew Sen. McCain to various stops on his campaign trail in Arizona and the reason she did it - was primarily to get over her own fear of flying. Which I think is admirable. And not only that she races cars with her son, not just NASCAR racing, but drifting…seriously, like Fast & Furious, Tokyo Drift…drifting…I thought that was cooler than @(#&! I definitely think the McCain's are more interesting I previously gave them credit for…
