(CNN) - Following a surge in the pace of superdelegate endorsements, senior Clinton adviser Harold Ickes released a memo addressed to the Democratic Party’s “automatic delegates” that points to several new polls that suggest Hillary Clinton would be tougher to beat than Barack Obama in a general election bout.
(Ickes refers to superdelegates as “automatic delegates” because he says that term better reflects their status as party leaders and elected officials who are entitled to a vote at the Democratic convention.)
At least dozen superdelegates have publicly weighed in so far this week. Of those, roughly two-thirds have supported Obama, and one-third have backed Clinton.
“A spate of new public polls out this week confirms what we have been arguing for some time: Hillary Clinton is the strongest candidate to beat John McCain in November,” writes Ickes.
He points to results in recent national and swing state surveys testing hypothetical head-to-head matchups with John McCain which show Clinton performing slightly better than Obama. He also notes the New York senator’s showing in “the all important subcategories that serve as bellwethers for a candidate’s overall strength.”
Ickes says relevant results in those categories include Obama’s rising unfavorable ratings, and Clinton’s greater strength among independent voters and seniors – and among young voters, a group that has been a vital part of Obama’s base in many of his previous primary wins.
In the latest AP-Ipsos poll pitting each Democratic candidate against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, both candidates win a majority – but Clinton fares better, pulling in two-thirds of those voters against McCain, while Obama receives the support of 55 percent in a hypothetical matchup with the Arizona senator.

Obama leads Clinton in two new national polls by CBS News/New York Times and NBC/Wall Street Journal. In both cases, Obama extended his lead from the polls taken about a month ago.
NBC/Wall Street Journal
Obama 46
Clinton 43

CBS News/New York Times
Obama 46
Clinton 38
Und 14
Obama leads by 3.0 points in the RCP Nat'l Average
If Obama wins more states and wins more votes than Hillary, and the super delegates still go ahead to give this nomination to Hillary, it would be the greatest INJUSTICE in American History.
Obama has had to work hard for all his votes, despite going against the King and Queen of the Democratic party (Bill and Hillary). He didnt have anyone who owed him any favours, He didnt have any money, He doesnt have personal wealth to boost his campaign, He played by the democratic rules of not campaigning in Michigan and FL, He won 10 States back to back, Big, Small and Swing States. He is leading in popular votes.
And for Super Delegates to still go ahead to give Hillary the nomination would be so cruel, and would most certainly break up the DNC.
Obama has ran his campaign in such a way that if he loses to Clinton, his supporters can still vote for the democratic nominee, But Clinton has ran her campaign without any regard for who ever wins the nomination. A win at all cost mentality that is very destructive.
Thats what superdelegates should be looking at, not flunctuating polls taken while Obama is going through the eye of the storm.
Bush won the popular vote too? Obama promises change so did Bush? Bush sure did change Washington from bad to worse. Obama is new to Washington so was Bush. Bush seemed like a nice guy, so does Obama…are you getting the picture????
As long as Obama is ahead, even with double digits, which he was for weeks, nobody talked about the Clintons' electability. If Obama is behind in one meaningless poll for one day, the Clinton's political machine starts firing.
Stop BS and double standards.
Media should be shameful of covering any BS that comes out of Clintons' gang and not getting to Clinton's problems now and before, i.e. W.W., Paul, you name it. Why the Clintons' gang want to change the rules on a day to day basis? Do they think Am. People are dumb?
It is nice to see that Hillary has that kind of pull in the battleground States. Then Hillary should have no problem pulling those groups for Barack Obama in the General Election.
The Pastor you are talking about re: Clinton is a Minister from Clinton, NY not a pastor of the Clintons. Numb nuts....
As i am typing i am watching the polls from CNN and they are saying 51% of American believe Hillary is DISHONESTY Person.
So when you talk of polls they are polls that go against her, but just like you (supporters) and her said, let SD judge.
at the end of the day i will vote for her if she becomes the nominee.
Obama 08
I read about the new super for BO today – and was suprised he picked today out of the air
Then I read the polls – and realised he was leaning BO for a while and did the BO camp a favor (requested??) and came out today knowing the poll news – see Ickes and see daily trackers online at Gallup and Rasmussen Reports) would SLAM BO
Ickes sent out his letter today – for two reasons IMO
One in politics – news gets cold fast – so move on hot good news
And Second – or maybe First – to blunt the impact of the super who went BO today of all days and did not wait for IN results
All Ickes wants to do today is freeze supers/automatics till post Primary Day
May the better person win
Vote DEM no matter who or whom and never McBush
hopefully they will realize obama is not going to beat mccain, and jump aboard and support hillary. at least she has a chance against mccain. swiftboaters have to much to work with, the rev. wright drama. hillary 08!
The Obvious gender bias in the democratic party is... well, just so undemocratic.
This woman has been undermined by her own party.
Desperation is really showing.
Many democrat will vote Obama if Clinton drops out.
Maybe Hillary has to cry like in Michigan, but i guest it will not help this time around.
After the goalposts have moved all over the country, Clinton now suggests the results of a weekly poll.
Desperation!!
It's 3am. in the morning,.... do you know where your husband Bill is??
POLLS DON'T MEAN ANYTHING...I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO ARE THEY POLLING? CLINTON'S SUPPORTERS OR MCCAIN AND THE REPUBLICIAN OPERATION CHAOS???
“A spate of new public polls out this week confirms what we have been arguing for some time: Hillary Clinton is the strongest candidate to beat John McCain in November,” writes Ickes.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Oh god, that's the funniest thing I've heard in years. If Obama loses the nomination I'll make darn sure McCain doesn't lose the general election.
Excuse me, Why does Hillary have to beg and threaten these
SUPERDELEGATES? Look, if the Superdelegates Know about
the Clinton's Past Activities, we will remember you who swing
towards Hillary. YOU KNOW OF THEIR PAST! WHOEVER GOES
OVER TO THE CLINTON'S HAVE BEEN PROMISED SOMETHING.
THAT IS HOW THEY WORK.
EDWARDS KNOWS ALL ABOUT THE CLINTON'S CRIMINAL PAST.
HILLARY AND BILL HAVE TOO MANY "FRIENDS IN POLITICS" REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC AND LOBBYIST. THE CLINTON'S OWE THEM. HOW CAN HILLARY MAKE ANY CHANGE HAPPEN WHEN THEY OWE EVERYBODY FAVORS.
HOW EASY IS IT GOING TO BE FOR BILL TO "MAKE DEALS" THAT
GO RIGHT INTO HIS POCKET WHEN HE IS LIVING IN THE WHITE HOUSE. AND HILLARY CAN TURN HER HEAD. SINCE THE CLINTON'S ARE SO GOOD AT USING PEOPLE, THEY CAN MAKE
THEIR PERSONAL MONEY AND DENY! THAT IS THEIR GAME.
THESE PEOPLE ARE LIKE THE "BONNIE AND CLYDE'S OF AMERICAN POLITICS." THEY HAVE SOLD OUR JOBS AND PERSON-NALLY GAINED MONEY FROM DUBAI AND COLUMBIAN, JUST TO NAME A FEW.
EDWARDS, WHAT HAVE THEY PROMISED YOU? WE WILL KNOW AND WE WILL FIND OUT. YOU READ AND YOU KNOW THEM SO ARE YOU GOING TO LIE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. ARE YOU THE PERSON THAT SOUNDS LIKE YOU CARE ABOUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE? RICHARDSON AND MANY OTHERS HAD "COURAGE"
MR. EDWARDS, DO YOU HAVE COURAGE/ DO YOU ACTIONS INSURE "TRUTH" TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?????????
Obama Cult – Look up Larry Sinclair!
Hillary Clinton have the most dirt on her than any other person running for president.
She have a big surprise coming her way the Republicans from Texas have a playbook already being circulated in preparation for her.
All the afairs that Bill Clinton have on her and the sex wit Monica Lewinski is just a part of Chapter 1. She will be in tears once they start on her.
Polls are fluid, and these are taken at the height ot the Wright controversy. The Republicans are sitting on a land mine of info on Hillary. Obama is too much of a gentleman and statesman to throw them at her, but the Republicans aren't. The superdelegates have access to information we cannot get. They know what's going on.
Here is a pitch
Obama needs 293 delegates
Clinton needs 433 delegates
Obama 08!!!!
Is there anyone who still wants Hillary for the next Pres? The NEGATIVE candidate, the CRONIC LIAR, She has her own personal agenda for political power, HER PERSONAL ATTACKS ON BARACK HAVE PROVEN THAT. I can't see how the Superdels can vote for her. She has hurt the Dem Party with her negative attacks. I don't see how she can win. We are moving forward with BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT.
Does anyone know when was the last time Hillary actually pumped her own gas or was even a vehicle that was being filled prior to this?
My guess is that she hasn't pumped her own gas since leaving Arkansas. She probably doesn't even know how to operate a modern gas pump.
She know she will be history so soon, she is so desperate, watch what she will come up with next.
Voters, don't get distracted by these serial Hillary bashers. All they're promoting is hatred. We know Hillary for years since she's been in the public eye and there will be no surprises. We know Hillary is strong and smart and she's shown to us that she's a fighter and she will fight for us. Hillary is the one with solutions and can help fix our economy, our country. Even Elizabeth Edwards has recently spoke out and endorsed Hillary's Universal Health Care Plan. Again, we need a fighter in the white house, not a smooth talker. Vote for Hillary@
The Peter Paul Vs Clinton Trial has NOT even been mentioned by CNN are other media outlets.
CNN and others want this race to go on for ever. At least I heard something about RESKO for a while.
What's up CNN, Profits got your tongue?
