Watch Barack Obama's comments Thursday.

(CNN)— The Iraq war – which has taken a back seat to economic concerns on the campaign trail recently – returned to the forefront Thursday as Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama used the fifth anniversary of President Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech to blast the administration’s war policy.

At a campaign event in Indiana, Obama drew a parallel between President Bush’s ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech and Clinton and John McCain’s gas tax holiday proposals, telling the crowd that ultimately, the “the long term problems… keep going and going and going.”

“You remember when George Bush five years ago put up a big sign in front of an aircraft carrier saying: ‘Mission accomplished in Iraq.’ I’m sure they thought that was good politics. Except five years later we're still in this war in Iraq,” said the Illinois senator, who has made his early opposition to the war a major theme of his campaign.

His Democratic rival stressed administration missteps in the early days of the conflict. “The fifth anniversary of President Bush's ‘Mission Accomplished’ speech comes the same week as a chief architect of the Bush administration’s war in Iraq conceded ‘We were clueless on counterinsurgency,’” Clinton said in a statement. “The path forward is to use American diplomacy and our allies to allow U.S. forces to come home, and turn responsibility back to Iraq and its people.”

On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said the ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner had been referring to the sailors on the ship where the speech was delivered, not the war itself. “President Bush is well aware that the banner should have been much more specific and said `mission accomplished' for these sailors who are on this ship on their mission," said Perino. "And we have certainly paid a price for not being more specific on that banner. And I recognize that the media is going to play this up again tomorrow, as they do every single year."

Obama? The infrastructure of a functioning military of a sovereign nation was DESTROYED 5 years ago.

Of course they would capitalize on President Nuncio's speech.
Reality is–despite his on ignorance–he has established some strong precedents for the next President.

Stay the course.
Disregard–the so-called experts and trust in military/other intelligence, and your own advisors.
Don't waffel because of public opinon–but exercise executive will and ensure the strategy and tactics are pursued to the end–despite the critics.

History may judge him differently. Let's see.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   May 1st, 2008 1:27 pm ET

The bigger question is:

"Do either of the Democratic rivals for the Presidency have the personal fortitude and will to go the distance?"

Yes we can!   May 1st, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Mission will be accomplished when our troops are safely home. We are the united states of america not supercountry of the world. some battles/wars are not up to us to fight or win. In the bible some battles were not won because of disobedience and sin. The people had turned their hearts away from God and wanted to accomplish things on their own. We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all…. When we turn our hearts back to God and our constitiution that was founded with God fearing men, God will fight our battles and mission will be accomplished. that's why i'm voting for Barak Obama….we need a new direction and change and i'm not afraid of change, it's good and we should embrace it while we have a chance….with the people behind him, there's nothing we the USA can't accomplish!

I hate to break it to you Mr. Obama but war is a dynamic environment and things changes on the ground.
Our mission of dismantling Sadam’s regime has been successful and that mission was accomplished.
But when you are building democracy it takes time.
I suggest you catch-up on your Meddle east studies.
One question can you please have your wife explain her thesis.

Have some of you not read how economic experts have criticized the Hillary McCain gas tax holiday which is a short term pandering effort on their part and will leave us in a deeper mess in the long run! No wonder we elected Dubya twice!

Ron   May 1st, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Obama's answer to everithing is lets talk about it and don't do nothing so you can't be accused of anything. If he gets in the white house you can be sure that anything that does not go right will be someone elses fault.you can tell me all the things that should be changed but if you can't tell me in detail how your going to change it you are just making useless conversation

YOU ARE UNELECTABLE!

We do not want talk, we do not want your crazy pastor in the White House for the next 4 years, we do not vote for candidates who insult the way you did in Pennsylvania, we do not want Tony Rezko your crooked friend in Chicago, we do not want speeches copied from others, we do not want to lose to McCain in November either!!!

YOU HAVE NOT WON ONE BIG STATE. FLORIDA AND OHIO WILL BOTH BE AS IMPORTANT THIS YEAR AS IN 2000 AND 2004.

WE NEED THE TRUTH   May 1st, 2008 1:36 pm ET

Bottom line folks is you have two other candidates telling you what you would like to hear…."GAS TAX HOLIDAY", they are telling you what you would like to hear, but it ain't gonna happen, but by the time you figure it out it will be after November and you would have been used.

One candidate is telling you what you need to KNOW…and it ain't no Bull Crap "GAS TAX HOLIDAY". He could pander you for you votes as well as the other two, but that's the big difference.

Senator Obama has said "I'll tell the American people what they need to know and not what they would like to hear" He'll make the hard decisions.

Melissa- OHIO   May 1st, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Clinton wasnt given bad info, she just DIDNT READ the info given to her.

Not suprising that an elitist would rely on a lackey to do her work. If she cant choose good aides, cant manage her campaign, runs out of money time and time again… and can only imagine winning the nomination by stealing it…. then what kind of president would she be?

Obama 2008!

I see that the 'conservatives' on this blog continue to live in denial that this war has been lost from the beginning. 'Go the distance'? Are you kidding…….. please tell me how we will continue to pay for the war when our national debt IS: $10 TRILLION AND COUNTING?????????????

We are in danger of being bankrupt and some people are still saying 'go the distance'?

Sen. Obama IS the ONLY sane one of the group! Hillary and McBush BOTH VOTED FOR WAR WITH IRAQ! How IS this wisdom, logic OR good judgement???????????????????

OBAMA 08 & 12!

EBC   May 1st, 2008 1:38 pm ET

That's RIGHT nail this fool to the floor. We've been lead by a bunch of Bafooms!

The world looks at us like a bunch of lunatics all because of McBush and with the help of Sen. Clinton talking about how she's going to obliterate iran!!! What is wrong with this woman? YOU can't be making threatening statements, YOU ARE NOT THE PRESIDENT YET and that statement goes against the Geneva Convention's agreement. Talk about looking stupid.

With endorsements coming in from California, Iowa and Indiana, Sen. Barack Obama yesterday pulled even with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the race for support on Capitol Hill, as Democratic lawmakers shrugged off his recent struggles.

You are a liar Hillary!! You are very much responsible for getting us into this mess of a war as anyone else!!

Ron   May 1st, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Obama was against the war because he is a pacifist and being so could not be depended on to take action against our enemies if necessary he would try and talk them out of it while they bombed the hell out of us Hell he backed down from Clinton in their first debate when she forced him to denounce Farrakhan on national television.he's a wimp you can see that whenever someone picks on him

Melissa- OHIO   May 1st, 2008 1:41 pm ET

And Rev. Wright was only saying what many black pastors say every Sunday. If we, as caucasians, bothered to educate ourselves, we'd understand why! It's not anti-white, or anti-american… it's anti-racism, plain and simple.

Tuskeegee, black wall street bombing, experiments on black men, women, and children with no anesthesia… these things all happened in RECENT history!

Peggy   May 1st, 2008 1:41 pm ET

Before Bush, I sincerely believed that an American President would never take us to war unless it was absolutely necessary. Now I am more cynical, much like many Americans these days. Of the three presidential contenders, only Obama has the integrity, if at some future time the need arises, to convince the American people that the US must go to war.

Former Republican   May 1st, 2008 1:41 pm ET

What is a bigger issue right now???? The fact that Rev. Wright is Barack Obama's pastor or the fact that Obama has been against the war from day 1 and 4065 young men and WOMEN have been killed in Iraq! Clinton supporter obviously think Rev. Wright issue is MORE important. This is a really sick selfish nation and I am BITTER!

Billy from Fl   May 1st, 2008 1:43 pm ET

I am so sick of hearing Obama say he was against the war,

well guess what that was in the past and were sick of hearing about you were against the war , how do we know how you would have voted as you voted present or didn't show up to vote at all.

The American people are tired of your old speeches, start telling
us what you are going to do now.

Jason   May 1st, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Don't cast your vote for a Chinese spy, Hillary. Vote wisely, vote for Barack Obama.

What Clinton doesn't tell voters is that Magnequench, which made the magnets that helped to guide the precision-guided missiles, the so-called smart bombs, was sold to Chinese interests during Bill Clinton's administration, which okayed the move despite concerns about national security and eventual job loss.

John Smith   May 1st, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Each time I read on these bloggs–

Count FL and MI, I feel so sick to my stomach. Have we lost all sense of decency about "rules and vlaues" in this nation?

No surprise, if we can overlook God's rules: "Thou shalt not commit adultry; Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor," it is no small wonder how we can easily overlook our own values and rules!

Cynthia   May 1st, 2008 1:44 pm ET

I have always said, don't tell me what I want to hear - tell me the truth. I heard an analyst on CNN say that the tax holiday would not work. I would rather they leave the money where it is to take care of dilapidated bridges, etc.

Mike   May 1st, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Nobama you have no clue what you are talking about, you are simply a puppet of a mouthpiece!

Go Hillary!!!!

Seriously   May 1st, 2008 1:44 pm ET

Finally Americans are realizing what a horrible President Bush is. Unfortunately, the Democrats look like they may be selecting another left-wing liberal candidate who (1) won't win in November because he'll lose the vital swing states which will leave us with 4 more years of Republicans and (2) has no experience just like Bush, has no specific plans just like Bush, tries to appear to be a "uniter not a divider" just like Bush, and bases his campaign on the mere prospect of likability.
Democrats please wise-up before it's too late. Let's nominate the candidiate who can win in Nov. That candidiate is Hillary Clinton. She can win the vital swing states (FL, OH, PA, AK, TN, NH, NM and MI) and thereby can win the White House.

Ron   May 1st, 2008 1:45 pm ET

there once was a man very much like Sen. Obama who came out of nowhere and courted the youth vote and the elite and preached and promise change and boy did he ever deliver you can read all about it in mein kamp

Way to go Obama!

Clinton voted for the war with Mc Cain and Bush!

After 5-long years and $500-trillion dollars - we have not won the war and we will not!

Imagine if Iraq had a REAL-ARMY to fight!

The USA had no right to invade Iraq regardless of the leader and this is one of the things Rev. Wright has stated… die for a lie!

Billy G in Las Vegas   May 1st, 2008 1:52 pm ET

it WOULD have been “Mission Accomplished” IF the American govenment didn't tie the hands of the Military when the "insurgency" started just like they did in Viet Nam. except for the "police actions" on Grenada and Panama and the First Gulf War, this country hasn't fought decent war since WWII.

the object of war is to KILL the ENEMY and ANYONE ELSE that MAY be HELPING them. after those contractors were brutally murdered in Fallujah we should have carpet bombed the place into dust. THAT would have settled things down REAL FAST. we also didn't take out that pipsqueek Muqtada al-Sadr and his Mahdi Army thugs early on. they are now the Iraqi version of Hitler and his Storm Troops in pre WWII Germany and they are going to eventually end up CONTROLLING the COUNTRY just like the Nazis did.

instead we have ended up with an Arabian Viet Nam complete with an Iranian version of Cambodia where the insurgents can run to and get resupplied.

Paul, Tampa, FL   May 1st, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Clinton's support for the gas tax holiday is based on the same flawed political reasoning she used to vote to invade Iraq, i.e., go with what is politically expedient instead of what is good policy. Any economist will tell you that the price of gas, like all goods, is a function of supply and demand period. The current price of gas reflects the price necessary to balance the demand with the supply. Eliminating the gas tax will not lower the price of gas unless it increased the supply or reduced the demand. Clinton's proposal will simply put the money that used to go to pay for roads into the pockets of the oil companies, not gas consumers.

James   May 1st, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Say it out Obama. God loves you. Its about time that Americans stop going for brand names and vote for change. Sometimes I wonder how Bush got into the white house. I guess people were going for a brand name. Just look at the mess we are right now.

jen   May 1st, 2008 1:53 pm ET

Please come up with something original. The only thing that the Democrats have going for them is the media inspired hatred of President Bush. I am wondering how many of us would have the fortitude to stand up when you are told you are hated every day. I don't think the president of Iran will care when Hillary sheds her fake tears!

Unfortunately, we are sheep and are soft. I love my country and hate to see how low we have become - NOT because of our president, but because of US. It is far easier to criticize than to come up with solutions.

We need a President with some sense rather than one with a knee jerk reaction to destroy! We can do MUCH better than what we have had!

Do your homework! read beyond the news headline and educate yourself ! I don't know why everybody get so upset when voicing your opinion regarding Hillary or Obama. One is no better than the other. It's ONLY your opinion. All of the name calling is not necessary. One of them will be the President and you will have to live with that for at least 4 years. So what we as "intelligent" people should do is think about the fact that we are all Democrats and think about the positives both candidates have and move on. As you can see if it was up to you we would've had a nominee by now. Please let each individual make up their own mind, don't try to persuade anyone by your harsh remarks.

This story reveals the superior wisdom Obama has shown: He opposed the War in Iraq; and he is against the Gas Tax Relief proposals from Clinton and McCain.
In both instances Clinton has chosen to make decisions that are politically expedient. She knows, as Obama knows, that the $25-30 savings to Americans who drive will not help and will put the Country's hiway and bridge safety at risk.
Bush's "Mission Accomplished" sign is a prime example of how "politics as usual" must change. Bush now claims he didn't mean we had won the War in Iraq. But every thinking America knows that is a lie. Clinton has shown that she will tell a lie in a heart beat if she thinks it will help her. Why can't we just say to our government representatives that we do not want government officials standing up telling lies? Lying is not a virtue. Often times, lying is used to cover up crimes. How is it that we have forgotten that?

I hate to break it to you Mr. Obama but war is a dynamic environment and things changes on the ground.
Our mission of dismantling Sadam’s regime has been successful and that mission was accomplished.
But when you are building democracy it takes time.
I suggest you catch-up on your Meddle east studies.
One question can you please have your wife explain her thesis

Please proof read before you submit text. Just as what he is saying. Things take time. Everybody is ready for a hurry up and fix it plan and it doesn't work out well if it is not planned. We did not plan well and we are paying for it STILL.

After the first Gulf war, a good many neo-cons wondered why Daddy Bush didn't go after Sadam and "finish the job." Now we know why, and too bad Geo. Bush didn't follow his father's lead and show restraint, instead of wild-west shoot 'em-up antics. Baddest move of all time.

Matt   May 1st, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Same old biased CNN. Obama has a bad couple of weeks, so they try to take the focus off him and put it on Bush with a poll that most likely was biased as well. And people say that Fox News is biased. We see through your games CNN. We know you are the Democrat mouthpiece! I bet you are even being paid to write anti-Bush, anti-republican, articles so that Obama seems to be the "better" choice. IDIOTS!

Lolu   May 1st, 2008 2:14 pm ET

First, Bush said "let's go in cos Saddam has WMDs", when none were found, he said, "well, he possessed the intent to make WMDs", when that did not wash, he said, "well, sadamm's regime was tyrannical and the is safer place". While i'm glad to see saddam go, i think Bush insulted everyone by coming up with these ridiculous excuses for going to war, insulted everyone by declaring "mission accomplished" and that is not even the worst part! The worst part is that there are still people out there who feel going to Iraq was the right thing to do! Tell that to the families of thousands of soldiers who were sent to iraq!

DJ, LA, CA   May 1st, 2008 2:14 pm ET

Tell em Barack. Never declare victory or act arrogant before the "mission" really IS accomplished.

Adolf gave an infamous victory speech during WW2….boasting that the Germans had also mission accomplished in defeating the Soviets in Stalingrad. We all know how that turned out.

Senator Obama has no right to say a word against G. Bush. Just look at how much he promised to his own Illinois district and just how much he really accomplished. Absolutely nothing. In fact, that district has more proverty, crime, drug use, corrupt politicians and miserable conditions than when he was elected. And Obama says he will fix the problems in all 50 states. What a big lie. What a big horse laugh.
He has run his whole campaign on bogus promises.
And yes, he has voted for every war bill/legislation since his election to the senate in Washington. This is just more of his political rhetric.

Believe this, along with the rest of Obama's rhetoric, if you want , but I choose not to, as Obama talks a good game and only offers something that he cannot fulfill.
If Obama was aware of Wright's sentiments, which I think tha he was, this makes him not only a racis, but also a hypocrite who professes a desire to brig this country together.

If the mission was to get rid of Saddam Hussein, then the mission was accomplished. If the mission was to get rid of WMDs, none were found, then the mission was accomplished. The only reason for being their now, is because the accomplished mission created such chaos that it's impossible to leave. Anyone with any sense could have forseen this outcome. Five years ago, after swaggering across the carrier deck under the 'Mission Accomplished" banner, Bush, exhibiting his typical disconnect from reality and lack of mental capacity, smirkingly declared that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended." Before being impeached, removed from office and put on trial in the Hague for crimes against humanity, he should be forced to repeat that statement in person to each set of parents of the thousands of American men and women who have sacrificed their lives in vain since then because of his reckless stupidity. Shame on the American people who elected him–not once, but twice.

For Sen. Obama to compare Pres. Bush's "mission accomplished" speech to Sen. Clinton's proposed temporary relief from high gas prices is idiocy. That's a desperate stretch if I ever heard one. The fact is that in Sen. Clinton, we have a rare window of opportunity to elect a woman who would probably be the most capable president ever. And if we are now to survive the serious problems left by the Bush administration, we surely need someone of her caliber. Please. Sen. Obama is by no means ready for this job. He should have waited, but he didn't.

Tom   May 1st, 2008 2:29 pm ET

As Mr. Obama is prone to doing in his "non-divisive and unifying" campaign, he is telling why everyone else's plan is bad without providing a plan of his own. This man is hyprocrisy in action and is taking the democratic party down the slow road to political suicide in the fall.

The plan is a short term "break" to let people catch their breath a bit and Hillary's has a way of paying for it. She combines this with longer term solutions. Obama's doing everything he says he stands against (negativity, nitpicking a part of an overall solution) to try to make the other candidates look worse. Just another cheap politician doing business as usual. Get out of the pool before you hurt yourself (again).

Nads–is the personal convition, as President, that staying on course is the best thing for all Americans–not necessarily your own children–but the majority of Americans—and the legacy of America that the President inherents from all future generations.

SDunn   May 1st, 2008 2:32 pm ET

It boggles my mind how you people keep saying that Obama is all talk and he has no solutions. You want to believe the lies that HIllary tells you then fine, but if you would actually do some research you would find that he actually has a lot of excellent solutions and most of his solutions were created way before Hillary stole his ideas. Most of her so-called solutions scare me because she has no clue and no vision on how to lead this country. She's just going with the flow and pandering to get back into the white house. Please tell me why didn't she read the NIE report before she voted for the war???? Why???? She didn't start protesting the war until she started running for President. Why didn't she have an exit strategy until the debate in January after she heard Obama's? When asked the question initially before the January debate she couldn't answer the question! Then all of a sudden in the Jan debate she started talking about her 60 day withdrawal? She doesn't have a clue!

Because we take those personal freedoms for granted–it's sometimes diffiucult to have empathy for others who live in cutlures where freedom of speech is non-existent.

Both candidates has their faults, BUT the main concern is for the Democrats to win in November, and alot of people don't think he can deliver. I am sure alot of people are torn between these two wonderful candidates, as I am. Voting Obama, is voting another 4 four years of BUSH. Sir, we dont embark in the act of war on consensus–we rely on a sound government to answer those questions for us. Though you were still sucking up on the political scene in Chicago at the time–our congress, senate, and President determined the course the nation was to take and the nation went on that course.

Commitment, dedication to the nations principles–and willingness to "swim upstream" if it's best for the nation—–that's what we expect from a President. You are better suited to a school board–where the loudest get hear–or the highest donors.

If you listen closely about Obama’s ideas regarding foreign policy, most of them involve “we will not allow them to ……..;”, “we will change their……..,”; “we will talk to them about………”etc. I remember Obama mentioned the power of now; from what I understand it points out “Our pain mostly coming from trying to control or change someone or something besides ourselves”. I travel oversea quite often and realize there is a general misconception of how Americans think people from other country think about U.S. A lot of American thinks people in other country hates U.S., after talking to varieties of people from different countries, most of them like United States they just don’t understand why American like to tell them how to run their country or what they should or should not do. According to them, they wish they can be like United States in many ways; however, they have their own sets of social, economical, religious, infrastructural and political problems to work out before they can reach to that stage.

Obama’s ideas sound good; however, I have not heard he said what U.S. position is when other countries do not listen to us or do not do what we want them to do. On the other hand, experience comes with wisdom, Hillary states U.S. position before giving options on what U.S. can offer corresponding to each case regarding our foreign policy. It may not sound good to some people; however, it seems to be a more natural way of handling things involve other countries.

That's why his opponents are working so hard to tarnish his image. You can destroy a man's name but not his character. Obama is who he is:a human being with imperfections. Garlin Vidal of Memphis, TN   May 1st, 2008 2:59 pm ET

And as for President George W. Bush and his administration…

The MISSION was accomplished:

Screw over American families… ACCOMPLISHED!
Kill innocent young men and women in a FAILED war… ACCOMPLISHED!
Destroy the economy… ACCOMPLISHED!
Jack up the HEALTHCARE SYSTEM… ACCOMPLISHED!
Divide people across the NATION… ACCOMPLISHED!
Show the AMERICAN PEOPLE that their government under his administration is not for the PEOPLE… ACCOMPLISED!
Cause a multitude of PEOPLE to lose HOPE… ACCOMPLISHED!
Lie, Lie, Lie and look more and more STUPID… ACCOMPLISHED!

So, in some sort of reality the mission really was ACCOMPLISHED it was just the MISSION of a few retards!

I am so tired of the Obama blogger's and a few who claim to support Clinton also, but not the way I am of Obama supporters.

First, you post the most hateful things, then turn around and accuse the Clinton supporters of being negative. Then, when the media finally pays some attention to Obama, you scream that its unfair, but you rolled in the floor and celebrated for 15 months as the media ripped Hillary apart on every issue. Every time Obama picks up a super, you claim its the start of something…yeah another round of hateful blogging. By the way, Clinton has picked up 5 more supers in the last few hours but we don't get a blog about that.

I am tired of Obama supporters calling older voters names. I am tired of them calling people who do not worship Obama racist. You are not the chosen people. I would suggest you grow up and stop the name calling, the false rumors, and realize that youth or level of education does not make you superior.

I would also like to ask CNN to post this. I read millions of post where the post are a majority of negative Clinton rants. They never deal with issues. Then the Obama supporters cry if someone disagree's. We need balance here. I dare any Obama supporter who claims Clinton supporters are hateful to go back and actually read the Obama supporter blogs and tell me who is more hateful.

Hillary supporters want to talk issues, but we never can because we have to muddle through 100's of hateful comments and then we are not even posted.

Obama supporters. Show you have hope and change your tone.

If Hilary is elected president, we might be called the United States of West China. We better brush up on speaking and reading Chinese.

Hillary Clinton: Liar, Liar, pant-suit on fire.

Integrity is more important than experience.

We have had one President who has launched the country into a war based on a lie. Now we have a candidate who has admitted to saying something different than what "she knew to be the truth." Sleep deprivation??? Maybe, but then I don't want her answering the phone at 3 am!

I have been a huge Hillary supporter. I am no longer. We can't afford another liar in the White House. The one we have has already cost over 4,000 lives.

Why isn't Barak addressing this very aggressively?

North Carolinian for Obama   May 1st, 2008 3:13 pm ET

George Bush deserves to be the most unpopular president in modern history…..and history will not be any kinder to him. It is gratifying to see that the electorate has come out of their deep sleep….and see this man for what he really is. The decision to invade Iraq was a political stunt tinged with revenge which Bush in his infinite wisdom chose to do in spite of advice from his military leaders and others. The aircraft carrier photo op complete with Mission Accomplished banner was all part of the PR campaign orchestrated by Mr. Rove. The Leader of the world's only superpower chose to play GI Joe with human lives and real bombs. What a fool he looks like now…..

Dying to have more of the same…..vote for his BFF John McCain. Obama may not have a lot of experience but unlike Mr. Bush he has an IQ over 75! Mr. Obama really has earned his leadership role……as a bi-racial child with no trust fund and raised by a single mother rather than someone who felt he was entitled since his last name is Bush.

We need to be inspired by a leader that can help us regain our stature as a force for good in the world. Obama can help us do that!

Bush fooled us by going to war, in the long run we would have all the oil we want. He said it when he was running for re-election and by pandering we were taken in and he won. Here comes Hillary with the same gimmick how she will relieve our plight for 3 months, does'nt it seem odd that after McCain came up with that brainstorm she joined the bandwagon. She saw a chance to pick up votes by telling the american public what they wanted to hear. I've watched a lot of news and most of them say this will not work and is just a ploy to get votes and if the american people would understand politics they would see it, but because the american public does'nt follow politics and all they see is someone telling them what they want to hear it will probably work for her.

I'm with Darth Vadik. The ignorance and stupidity of the 28% true-believers is appalliing. Many on here are asking, "who are these 28%"? Well, they are all around you; their viewpoints can be found peppered thoughout the comments on all these topics. These comments stick out like the red-hindends of babooons sitting in the trees. There is very little substance to what they have to say; but that's not surprising, since there is no substantive logic-based analysis that could ever explain and justify what has happened over the lasty 7 years. The surprising thing is that they choose to post at all, and publicly display their stupidity — what we read from these dimwits are dogmatic, vacuous, deceitful, and off-topic statements.

The scary thing is, these right-wingers would buy a seat on the Hindenberg, if it had "Mission Accomplished" and the face of Bush painted on it. I for one would happily sell them their tickets to get onboard.

With the 28% true-believers in place, America will have to struggle mightily to raise its voting IQ in the next presidential election.

Yeah Hillary wants to end the Iraq war so she start another one with IRAN. IRAN is not the same country as Iraq, the people will revolt so let's not be hasty and let's keep our american soldiers safe from unnecessary wars.

IS Hillary running as a DEM or a REPUB?? I am confused because it looks to me this fight for the white house is between Hillary and Obama not McCain. McCain is out, bye bye Bushie.

FEDUP   May 1st, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Clinton does not want to obliterate Iran, she said we are able to. Some idiots never get it right. I guess if you go to college you forget the little words like may and shall. Hope none of them are going to be making up any contracts.

karen from philly   May 1st, 2008 3:33 pm ET

I don't understand, Hillary's pastor is a child molester and she didn't leave her church. Why is that ok? Barack's FORMER pastor just speaks like an idiot. That is not that bad. Don't catholic ministers denounce gay people? Aren't there ministers who molest children, that seems worse to me. And Barack did denounce his pastor pretty harshly this week. Barack has never gotten angry with Hillary because she is his fellow democrat. Why are people guilty when someone else said something bad? I don't get it.

karen from philly   May 1st, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Bush is the biggest dummy ever!!!!! How does he even have more than 10% of people liking him? It must be one person voting for him over and over again on this internet poll, probably his mom.

Just go away Elmer Fudd.

Kristy   May 1st, 2008 3:37 pm ET

Wow. This story was about Bush declaring "Mission Accomplished." Democrats have really lost their perspective.

I don't think Obama could get a dog to roll over. He can't even get his wife to talk right.

Bush has provided hundreds of political "commercials" for the Democrats come election time. If they cannot win this one they need to disband and just have one the one party. —— The Corporation Party

Perhaps some wars are "inevitable," but most are avoidable.

Many of the world's oldest nations have sent generations into wars that have devoured decades & centuries of their people. Their wars never truly end, except for brief & uneasy periods of "peace." Their losses are great. Their wounds aren't given opportunities to heal. It becomes their way of life.

God help the United States to avoid becoming one of those.

There is still hope. Si se puede! Obama 2008!

karen from philly   May 1st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Jack guy on this blog site, you are dumb, I said the same thing does that mean that I went to Wright's sermons? No, it doesn't. It is a fact that HIroshima bombing happened . Face it.

ANd to all the Obama haters on this site what the Heck do you mean when you say go back where you came from because that sounds pretty bad. Where do you think he came from? The same place as you. Stop your hate.

Candace from Texas   May 1st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Obama has a lot of haters!!! I believe Obama is the wisest of them all! He definitely has wisdom and show it every time he speaks. You Obama haters need to face the fact! He is going to be our next President! Get use to it!

Wake up people we have a chance to make real change…not just flipping parties

Stephanie, PA   May 1st, 2008 3:46 pm ET

…and all the members of congress and senate (including Sen. Clinton) listened to a clueless administration! They say they were essentially duped, but it's funny that most of America was not. Most of us said that the war was not justified from the start! We said that we had no business invading that country and that it would turn into another Vietnam. Hmmm…we were actually right.

Let's be right again, but this time take action. Vote democrat in November. Vote Obama!

Tom,des moines   May 1st, 2008 3:49 pm ET

Hussein Obama want to talk to AL QAEDA,HAMAS,IRAN,NORTH KOREA,SYRIA AND CUBA WITHOUT ANY PRECONDITION WHAT SO EVER. I THINK HUSSEIN OBAMA SHOULD BE ASHAME OF HIMSELF FOR SAYING THAT.
