Poll of polls: Obama losing ground

Obama now leads Clinton by 1 point nationally.
Obama now leads Clinton by 1 point nationally.

(CNN) - The Democratic presidential race is tightening nationally, according to a new CNN average of several recent polls.

Obama's lead is now down to 1 point over Clinton nationwide, 45 percent to 44 percent, in CNN's "poll of polls." That margin is down 3 points from another CNN poll of polls conducted two days ago. In that analysis, Obama led Clinton 47 percent to 43 percent. The margin is also considerably lower than an April 18 poll of polls that showed Obama with an 11 point lead.

The poll of polls consists of three newly released national polls from Fox News/Opinion Dynamics, Gallup, and Newsweek. There is no margin of error on the poll of polls.

Both the Fox News poll and the Gallup poll were conducted partially after Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, made a fresh round of controversial comments earlier this week.

The Fox News poll also appears to show Obama no longer has an edge over Clinton among independent voters. In head-to-head match ups, presumptive Republican nominee John McCain wins independents by a 4 point margin over Clinton (42-38 percent) and by a 10 points over Obama (47 percent to 37 percent).

What Obama and his supporters need to understand is that, they will support him no matter what, however, in order for him to win in November, he has to be able to win over the Hillary supporters and the solid base of the demorcatic party, which are the blue collar workers. This cannot be done with the baggage of Rev Wright and other mis-steps on his part. On the other hand, Hillary's baggage has been out there for years and it's old news, so she has a better chance of winning in November. Oh and also, she's a fighter and will not give up or give until she wins

The first situation with Obama that I think that has many upset with him is the problems with his Rev. Wright. Wrights opinions have been this way for years. It is nothing that Wright has whipped up over night. Obama said him self during his first talk of not agreeing with Wright is like not agreeing with a family member. He made it known that he knew about Wrights views long before the attacks on him and Wright emerged in the media. No Obama is saying he did not know Wright was like this and dennounces him completely.

Tell me how can you believe someone like this? Obama has issues and so does Clinton. But who out of the two has the record of participating in eliminating the countries deficit. Clinton does. She was there when he husband fixed the countries economy so she gets my vote only for that.

Obama you know you followed Wright. You are also selling Wright out! That is terrible to do to a long time friend. Wright may be devisive but look at what he had to live through so much racism and hate. While you Obama was raised in a white household free of the issues other blacks have to go through.

I was a regular visitor of your pages from Germany, with no vote. Here is a black guy that means what he says. The another (Hillary) preys on the dreams of a larger crowd: lunch- bucket blue-collar white voter, the loser of the globalization. And, of course, women. They will be thrown under the bus from her. That’s a fact you have to put up to. And she knows that. Barrack is at least naïve. No ill minded, no mischief. When he speaks of redemption, he does at least mean it. You CNN, you are pushing shamelessly the “old” values of America that are already ridiculed and discredited all over the world. Europe is only one step away finding new allies. What’s the difference between Putin and the Clintons? Just the same. But. Russia has the Resources. America doesn’t. America can only win us over with a better, an honest Policy. Talking to everybody, listen to everybody. No brazen lies. No sabre-rattling (“obliterate”) talks. Americans, grab your maybe last chance. Take this black guy, his intentions seriously. The world has changed: there is no way back to the 90s. Hillary fighting for the poor? Jobs, jobs, jobs? She’s just fighting for the power. How can anyone be so silly buying into it? You have to be very blue collared und very white…

Just curious - if "superdelegates" actually supported the candidate who won their state's primary/caucus, how would this impact the delegate count? For example, in New Mexico, with Clinton winning (albeit by a small margin), should Gov. Richardson be required to "support" the candidate who won the popular vote in his state? Would it be fair to FORCE Gov. Richardson to vote for Clinton? And, if its not fair to do that, then why - as Obama supporters seem to feel - must the superdelagates be obligated to vote for one candidate over another simply because he may have the lead in delegates or the lead in the overall popular vote in all states?

First of all, Obama can't put the Wright issue behind him because of all you so called fair newscasters running your mouths every day, over and over. Seems to me you are all rooting for the WHITE WOMAN... As a White Mail of 60 years old, I am standing behind Obama all the way. I still haven't heard one of you ask Hillary what kind of Pastor she had that would condone ADULTERY in his Church. CNN has done nothing nut talk up low life Clinton and run down Obama. You are all biggotts. Lou Dobbs claims to be Independant, but has nothing but praise for Hillary. Lou, yopu are twofaced!!! Now that I have wrote this and said the truth about you, it will not make the page. I have commented several times and none of them make it on the pages. Only if I would say it how YOU want me to say it.

The superdelegates will make a big mistake by giving the nomination to Obama, as an African Americans I feel Obama let the news media pressured into making a statement against Jeremiah Wright (even though I don't agree with him ) but he has a lack of consistency on his character. Obama will divide blacks and democrats.

To the Americans that thinks that Senator Obama share or believe in any of those hateful things that Rev Wright said, what do you think is his motive for running for President. Do you really thinks he cares about one particular group in America and not all of us. What do you think he plan to do to the United Stated if he became president?

Now that Obama is losing ground we need to figure away for
Hillary and John to go with him. What a sad commentary on American politics to have these 3 running for president. We should raise the salary for the job to attract the best and brightest!

Wright UNRAVELS Obama's character, the American people are now getting a glimpse of Obama's character and its NOT appealing. During press conference, Obama showed his ARROGANCE and DEFIANCE instead of being humble and apologize to the American people what Wright had said, his spiritual mentor/advisor and the person who INSPIRED him to write AUDACITY OF HOPE. The American people do NOT base their vote on skin color BUT on CHARACTER and JUDGEMENT capability of a person. If Colin Powell run for President, he'll have my vote, and I'M A TYPICAL WHITE PERSON AND BITTER! The problem of Obama is Obama.

It is irresponsible to think that a first term junior senator with minimal experience is ready to be president. Perhaps if he had been more politically astute, he wouldn't be facing declining support. This is not a popularity contest...Hillary is our only option for success over the Republicans.

want to know a fact from someone who has spoken in black attended churches for years, who worked in the intercity with children, who served his county, who is a successful businessman. I GIVE MY FINANCIAL AND WHATEVER ELSE SUPPORT TO OBAMA that I believe is another Lincoln and I also know that Lincoln would have troubles being elected with todays TV coverage. It is not what he said–his pastor said. It is not what he has done–his pastor. YOU GO TO A CHURCH NOT A PASTOR. when I give money for the children if someone misuses that money i don't worry because I gave it to God not the pastor. JUDGE A MAN BY HIS WALK NOT SOMEONE ELSES. want to judge clinton by having sex in OUR WHITE HOUSE, THE ONE I SERVED FOR??? WITH HILLARY THERE ALSO. She said she choses the church well she chose bill the sexual predator who with his looks has to have power to succeed.

I really don't feel comfortable with Sen.Obama. No candidate or potential candidate abandons their citizens in time of crisis which a lot Michigan voters felt like he did when he and other Dem. candidates withdrew from the Mi. primary especially in time of state crisis. I pray Jesus can intervene in this election process. Who can we trust any more. Thank You Sen. Clinton for staying on our ballots. The DNC and The Dems. should of worked with our citizens on dealing with the crisis. Michigan has the highest unemployment in the nation. I don't trust The Democrats after the way our citizens were treated by the DNC and those who withdrew from the primary. Lord we need direction. Help.

Do Obama supporters need to be reminded that Obama's current
dilema was created by his own pastor. Blaming HC is is completely
idiotic. I thought Obama was getting the educated vote? Clearly
that must be slipping as well.

I think not! let's "vet" all that has taken place in the name of "religion " lately. I am a 40ish mixed ethnical background, blonde hair blue eyes woman, guess who has my vote!

I might add that I am under the poverty level as I have had to get an education after being downsized 4 times in the last 13 years. 1st one in my family to get a higher education and we go back several generations on this soil. Obama 08

Obama has never been credible and it finally took this crisis from his own pastor to reveal the truth.
He only "denounced" Wright yesterday because he HAD to. He's been going to this church for two decades and also CHOSE to raise his children in this circus and hate-filled atmosphere.
The truth shall set us free!!!

Fox News polls are no more biased than CNN/Gallup polls. Face it people! Fox News is a legitimate news organization. If they are not, why are both Democratic candidates spending so much time on Fox News programs this week. They know Fox News has more viewers. Will CNN post this?

Those yahoos who are thrilled that Obama is being hurt by the Rev. Wright comments are nothing more than racists, who never wanted to give any credit to Obama in the first place, and are so excited at having an excuse to beat him up now.

Obama has repudiated Wright's comments and his actions. Nuff said. Move on. Stop trying to make this an issue anymore.

If Hillary's supporters think somehow she will come out of this a strong candidate to beat McCain, they are smoking something really wicked.

The time has come for ALL media to stop talking about Pastor Wright. Every American knows he has gone crazy. By CNN, Foxnews, ABC, and the others news media showing clips; panel discussions, etc. every night. You are doing the damage to Obama. Why don't the media start asking questions regarding Hillary. This is not a perfect women and she will do anything to win this primary. Wake up America, can't you see what is going on.
