Poll of polls: Obama losing ground

Obama now leads Clinton by 1 point nationally.
Obama now leads Clinton by 1 point nationally.

(CNN) - The Democratic presidential race is tightening nationally, according to a new CNN average of several recent polls.

Obama's lead is now down to 1 point over Clinton nationwide, 45 percent to 44 percent, in CNN's "poll of polls." That margin is down 3 points from another CNN poll of polls conducted two days ago. In that analysis, Obama led Clinton 47 percent to 43 percent. The margin is also considerably lower than an April 18 poll of polls that showed Obama with an 11 point lead.

The poll of polls consists of three newly released national polls from Fox News/Opinion Dynamics, Gallup, and Newsweek. There is no margin of error on the poll of polls.

Both the Fox News poll and the Gallup poll were conducted partially after Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, made a fresh round of controversial comments earlier this week.

The Fox News poll also appears to show Obama no longer has an edge over Clinton among independent voters. In head-to-head match ups, presumptive Republican nominee John McCain wins independents by a 4 point margin over Clinton (42-38 percent) and by a 10 points over Obama (47 percent to 37 percent).

Hillary has momentum because she has:
–consistently distorted and lied about what Obama says
–has run a consistently negative campaign, esp just before each primary
–has worked hard to destroy Obama's character
–pandering – say yes to whatever each state wants

This is typical politicking and she has shown to me over and over that she lacks any integrity whatsoever.

Pastor Wright does not speak for Obama. His views are just that-his views! If you're looking for a reason not to vote for Senator Obama, at least base it on something that you can attribute to the man himself. Want the war to go on? Want big oil to keep reaping record profits? Then vote against him. But voting against him for someone else's views and words is just wrong. We're smarter than that.

your character and judgement is usually cast by the friends you keep, the business you do and who you do it with, and your pastor or mentor. sorry O...do us a favor and get out while the Dems still have a chance.

What difference does it make, when each superdelegate vote is equal to approximately 50,000 "normal" people's votes? In the end, a very small, self-appointed group will pick the person who may well be the next president of the United States. Maybe next election they will stop calling them "superdelegates" and start calling them "the Politburo"

I live in Saginaw ,Michigan the daughter, wife and mother of vets. I have a fear of McCain ., The man has been declared 100% disabled by the military. I do know that if you are 100% it will be in your medical records that you are mental disabled also. This man has served his country well but I do not want him to be the one that answers the phone at 3:00am singing boom, boom, boom boom Iran. by accident. I was a Hillary fan until she pulled a fast one coming to Michigan. She should has stayed away like the rest and I would have voted for her, but now I will vote for Obama because a least he is is fair. I do not care about his pastor I am not voting for the pastor but OBAMA.

Losing ground? He's already won, do the math. Hillary's just too stupid, or ignorant to quit running; coupled with a media that keeps egging her on. (CNN included)

My fellow Americans lets not loose focus, did you all really think that the old political machine would not fight back against the American People when we would try to reclaim our democracy. Really think for a moment, these allegations against Obama are non-sense. Never in my entire life have I seen a candidate that is so real. If we screw up and let the media (old political elitist) continue to distort our consciousness we will be worst off then ever before.

Most of us are fed up with the elitist political machine that has ruled our lives with their promises and lies. For God's sake Hillary point blink lied to our faces just like her husband, this speaks to the essence of their characters. But yet, their supports still act as if they are royalty. She then went on national TV and joked about it. This month over 40 brave Americans have given their lives for our freedom, and Clinton somehow at a time of war can find humor about sniper fire. We have a chance to turn the page, shame on all of us if we don't. CNN your reporting is bias, why aren't you reporting on issues like these that reflect the true character of a candidate. Also, haven't heard much about Mark Penn and his dealings and the law suit in California concerning the Clintons. Maybe, CNN is just prolonging the debate because their ratings are going out of the roof, yea that probably it.

I've read quite a few of the responces on here, and the one thing that stands out the most is the Hillary supporters seem angry. I mean I believe Hillary is a fair choice for President, but she has been caught in a few clear lies. I'm tired of haveing a President who feels It's ok to lie to me for whatever reason. I perfer the truth no matter how bad the news may be. I want an adult who realizes I'm a adult. I don't want spin I'm tired of It. I also don't want someone who changes the rules to suit there purpose and that is what Hillary is trying to do.

Americans–and the world–will be the big losers should Clinton somehow steal the nomination from Obama and run against McCain.

We'll have no choice for change and no new vision. We will have taken ten big steps backwards.

    How sad!

Stop saying that Hillary has the popular vote in Michigan and Florida!!! First off having her name on either of the ballots for those primary does not make her the actual winner. It makes her a winner by default and if I were her I would stop talking like she won those states...because she didn't. She SHOULD have removed her name LIKE SHE SAID SHE WOULD! Oh, I guess that makes her a liar too!!!
But all of you Hillary supports just keep on talking...blah,blah,blah.

    CNN, FOX NEWS, MSNBC

ITS A KNOWN FACT THAT THE MEDIA SHAPES PUBLIC OPINION

YOU CNN ARE THE ONES WHO DETERMINE THESE POLLS, YOU AND FOX NEWS UTILIZE THEM TO MEASURE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR BIASED JOURNALISM. OBAMA ISN'T SLIPPING BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK CLINTON OR MCCAIN ARE BETTER, NOR IS HE SLIPPING BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK HE IS A BAD PERSON, HE IS SLIPPING BECAUSE THESE POLLS HAVE COMBINED THE RIDICULOUSNESS OF REV. WRIGHT'S SPEECH TO A VOTE FOR A OBAMA. YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY MELDED THE TWO TOGETHER WHEN YOU KNOW THAT THESE MEN ARE VERY DIFFERENT KINDS OF PEOPLE.

All these clinton supporters are starting to sound like broken records... Wright this, liar that, rezko... The youth choose Obama! Get over it! It doesn't matter what you say about him or what kind of president you think he'll be. Your time in this country is not as important as ours. We are tomorrow, you are yesterday. We dictate the future, not you!

Let's be honest... "Clinging to Guns and Religion" You know what he meant and I know what he meant... This means YOU not voting Obama is because of race. We never had your vote anyway.

Go away racist and take your punch drunk candidate with you. She's only still here because she doesn't know the knockout punch was delivered months ago...

Ever notice how right before a vote takes place something negative happens to Obama?

Iowa – Clinton paints him as the architect of NAFTA
    PA – BitterGate
    IN/NC – PastorGate

I pity the fools who are looking at this stuff and not the real issues. Much like with GW...those gay marriages aren't really affecting our live at all now are they?

I know who is getting my vote for president. Rev. Wright
The reason I am voting because if you listen to the media he is one running and not Obama. Oh I get it! They have to tie Obama to the Rev. because that is the only way to find something on Obama.
