From

RALEIGH, North Carolina (CNN) – As rumors abound about who they plan do endorse, Hillary Clinton thanked former rival John Edwards and wife Elizabeth for their work on poverty and health care at North Carolina’s Friday night Jefferson-Jackson dinner, just four days before the state’s primary.

“Let me say what a great fighter North Carolina and working Americans everywhere have in John Edwards. John ran with compassion and conviction and his courageous fight to end poverty is a fight I will see to the finish,” said Clinton, adding that she would create a cabinet-level position to focus solely on poverty.

“And I want to thank Elizabeth Edwards for her passion for ending discrimination by the insurance companies and for standing up against John McCain’s inadequate and radical health care plan,” Clinton continued. “Elizabeth Edwards is a true champion for universal health care.”

Elizabeth Edwards said she would be “surprised” if she or her husband – a former North Carolina senator – endorsed a candidate before the primary, but left the door open. Many think Mrs. Edwards leans towards Clinton because she has said that she favors Clinton’s health care plan over Obama’s.

With polls showing Democrats increasingly worried that the Party has gotten too divided, Clinton began her remarks with a unifying tone.

“The stakes are too high for us not to pull together as one team. I will tell you this, if Sen. Obama is the nominee, you better believe I’ll work my heart out for him. And if I’m the nominee, I know Sen. Obama will do the same for me.”

That didn’t stop her from taking a jab at John McCain though, saying, “He looks at the hole that George Bush has dug us into and says ‘give me a bigger shovel.'”

For the person who called all Obama supporters nuts, have you not notice how that man (Obama) handled the race and Rev. Wright issue with grace and did not lose his cool in front of the media or anyone. Do you remember all the talking Hillary did with "meet me in Ohio" for a debate, but got to the debate and basically agreed with Obama on all issues, do you really want someone who one day is acting all crazy and the next calm ,no I would rather have someone with a cool head who will reason with the problem, then make a decision on the matter. We already got someone in the white house who acts and then thinks and look at the fine mess we are in eg. the War in Irac, so please think before you go calling people names or was you with Hillary under sniper fire and just misspoke too.

Is there anyone Hillary HASN'T pandered to over the past month?

As an actor, let me say that she is a horrible actress. It's easy to tell when someone's faking it, and not a word she says comes across as genuine. Trust me, do not believe a word she says.

Dorito Chip? No! Landing Strip? No! Brazillian? No! Amazon rain forest? Yes she will...err uh has had forever. She is a LESBIAN. I don't care but the lemmings that support her should really take a close look at her for the past 30 years. You will be SHOCKED!

Ricardo Ramos   May 3rd, 2008 3:19 am ET

hillary stands no chance. Obama will beat her in north carolina 58-42 and the race will be extremely close at indiana. I think she should think about the fact that after this two primaries there is nothing in god's judge that allows her neither to reach denver, nor even closer at obama's advantage. It is time to unify our party and our efforts behind obama and do our very best to end the g.o.p's caos at the white house.

Jennifer I don't know how old you are but me and my wife are over 50 and we would never ever vote for Hillary. Btw we are not colleague educated either so I guess we are out of polling groups because accordance these clowns we would be in HRC camp now. Well we are not and reason is easy. If somebody is able to stay with adulterer who disgraced her in front of the whole world then something wrong in her character. I am sure if he was just normal guy she would dump him in the first possible term for divorce.
Obama's speech couldn't be here tonight because it is CNN and they play as Clintons whistle in these days.

OBAMA IS A POLITICIAN LIKE ALL THE REST !!! I wish he would just admit this fact and move on, He makes fun of Hillary for "THROWING BACK A SHOT AND A BEER " , then he's on the campaign trail drinking beers w/ blue collar workers . He runs Clinton down then says its time for new style of politics instead of the negative campaigns, He does all the same politcal pandering ,promise makeing and smooth talking. When asked for a specific answer on policies he never seems to have one, he generalizes his answers and makes points that we are all aware of .
We all know the Bush way of doing things has set this nation behind the eight ball in so many ways . He made a politcal move to take his name of the ballot here in MI. to pander to the voters in Iowa, and it worked , for someone who claims he wants to listen to the american people he should make it clear he only wants to hear from the voters that can help him win, a fact he made clear in my view when he took his name of the ballot ,or maybe like any other smart politician he knew how to "PLAY THE GAME" , and now my vote will not count!!!

I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA WHERE ALL AMERICANS HAD A VOICE??!!!

OH AND REMEMBER WHEN OBAMA WAS WINNING THE RED CAUCUS STATES???? EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW HE APPEALED TO THE INDEPENDANT AND REPUBLICAN VOTERS.. HAHAHAHAHA THAT WAS A PRANK BY THE REPUBLICANS VOTERS TO SWITCH TO HIM.. HE HAS NO SUPPORT FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE LIKE VULTURES, OR LIKE WE SAY IT IN SPANISH.. CHUPACABRAS.. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO VOTE FOR HIM PERIOD. ALSO, NOW THAT HILLARY IS GETTING THOSE VOTES IN THE UPCOMING PRIMARYS, YOU SAME PEOPLE ARE SAYING THE OPPOSITE.. GET OVER IT.. OBAMA IS DONE. REV WRIGHT, BITTER PEOPLE, NO BALLS.. HE'S GREEN AND NOT EVEN SEASONED. GET OVER IT .. VOTE FOR SOMEONE WITH BALLS.

We do not need anymore old politic, lies, and deceitfulness. Let us bring the changes for truth - Obama: show your light of genuinity and you will win!. Everyone will turn toward you and vote for you! -Psalm of the Future.

YOUR ALL GOING TO EAT CROW IF OBAMA WINS AND THEN LOSSES THE WHITE HOUSE. THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST !!! THIS IS OUR FUTURE AND AND IF DON'T ELECT SOMEONE STRONG LIKE HILLARY, (BECAUSE SHE HAS SHOWN TO HANDLE ALL THE BLOWS THROWN AT HER) WE WILL LOSE IT IN NOVEMBER!!!!! OBAMA KIDS GET OFF THE POT!!!

Jennifer said – obama has many other major flaws that we have not seen exposed and by the time we do see them laid out by the republicans, it will be too late to go and find hillary to save us all.

So...I'm wondering, how do you know what flaws he has that have not been exposed? Do you have some kind of knowledge of the man that the rest of us do not? Do you think the Clintons are better because all their flaws ARE exposed??

April in Texas   May 3rd, 2008 2:47 am ET

Sorry still voting Obama. I would like to know why Clinton gets a ticker and not Obama? He said some really neat things that the media keeps asking about.. He explained change and what it is and even told everyone who he is.. Hillary can not win and any vote for her is a vote for McCain or no one such as myself because I will stay home. We need to change Washington and stop all this pandering. I have never been so excited for a canidate as I am for Obama. He is inspiring and I feel a vote for him is a vote for me as that is who he is working for WE THE PEOPLE!!

I love how Republicans in Democrat's clothing, as well as people who are secretly BIGOTS support Hillary just so that they can undermine Obama's campaign.
The second she gets the nomination these same people would immediately start campaigning for McCain.

And how is she qualified exactly?

I am a Finance Director, and my wife is a Pediatrician. I tell my wife about my day when I come home from work, and she tells me about hers.
Is she then qualified to meet with banks and aquire financing for clients simply because she is married to me?
And can I diagnose or operate on a child just because my wife can?

WAKE UP AMERICA!

That is NOT pandering, Elizabeth Edwards praised the Universal Healthcare Plan of Hillary, in fact Edwards and Hillary has the same healthcare plan. Before John Edwards dropped out of primary, during their debate, he questioned Obama about his healthcare plan. As usual Obama stuttered like a child caught wetting his pants.

ah debbie...I hate to break it to you-but Bill and Hilary knew and invited Rev. Wright to the white house back in 98'- the day the Monica L. scandal broke out as a matter of fact. Bill was seeking his counsel. You see the clintons can throw dirt on someone else, but never on themselves. Deny and Lie is all they learn in politics. Check the "internet." But you see Obama knew about this and so did a lot of political figures...it is a chess game, and Obama chose not to play it. He rose above it and he is still going to win fair and square. Check out Clinton's secret- Peter Paul vs. Hilary C. part 1 and 2 on U-tube. Then ask if you could ever vote for her.

I am not saying that I support one or the other. I just want to say how quickly Obamas supporters jump on Clinton for every little word she says.

Hey i agree with Elizabeth Edwards and Clinton's health plans. Don't know why that is a bad thing to you Obama supporters. I think we should have a universal health plan. I have been without insurance many times and I have paid over $20,000.00 in medical bills over the years while immates that committed murder had medical attention. Yeah something is terrible wrong with the health care in this country! I had to endure the medical bills when my employer decided hey we are no longer paying your insurance and you lose it now. To have continued my insurance it cost more than my mortgage.

Kathy   May 3rd, 2008 2:12 am ET

Elizabeth and John Edwards are true humanitarians and I sincerely hope that they endorse Clinton, and do it this weekend. We need all three and I know that Hillary will look to them for help.
We need the universal health care, and minimum wage increase and an end to the mortgage crisis and a way toward a balanced budget and a better economy.
Hillary Clinton can win and will win in November as we need her.
Keep turning the tide Hillary and close the deal.

Debi (Orange County,Calif)   May 3rd, 2008 2:04 am ET

We need to quit rewarding the bad behavior of the politics of old. Hillary Clinton does not deserve the nomination, let alone the presidency. How discouraging her type of behavior is to all the honest and decent people who may want to enter politics in the future. No wonder we have so many liars and corrupt people running the government. Like I believe anything that comes out of that woman's mouth. If anyone actually believes Hillary is so found of Edwards, why did she accuse him of slinging mud right out of the gate in one of the early debates? Hillary refused to answer the question asked but deflected to a comment on Edwards slinging mud when he was just contrasting their differences. Then there was the "piling on" poor Hillary moment.

Edwards was so against special interest and lobbists that I don't see how he could support her if he is a man of his word. I remember him trying to pin Hillary down on whether or not she would make a commitment to "not have lobbists in the White House on Day 1" and she wouldn't...she just said she "didn't know".

I heard Elizabeth's comments on Hillary Care and it wasn't exactly an resounding endorsement of her. She simply stated she preferred national healthcare.

Lilarose in Oregon   May 3rd, 2008 12:51 am ET

There are still millions of Americans who have NOT YET VOTED in primaries.

I am appalled at the "super-delegates" for demanding the end to the voting so they can determine who will be the presidential candidate.

We in Oregon vote by mail, so I don't expect a media circus here (thank God). But we DO COUNT!

I hope that the John Edwardses do NOT endorse anyone for president.

mike   May 3rd, 2008 12:51 am ET

And she got boored like nonsense. CNN add that!

Ron L   May 3rd, 2008 12:50 am ET

ATTENTION...DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE LOUD SUCKING NOISE!!

IT'S ONLY HILLARY DOING WHAT SHE DOES BEST..SUCK UP..AND PANDER!!

Not only is she going to give us a TAX VACATION for 90 days...

She's going to give EVERY American a $10,000 tax break to by a new car!!!

Exactly where does she plan to get the money for all this???

TYPICAL POLITICIAN...PROMISE THE WORLD...DELIVER NOTHING!!!

Clinton or McCain, but NEVER obama   May 3rd, 2008 12:50 am ET

obama will forever be good buddies with wright....Believe it.

praises?   May 3rd, 2008 12:50 am ET

c'mon. let's be honest. you mean she brown-nosed them.

"praises"   May 3rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

you mean, she brown-nosed them. be honest.

Shirley   May 3rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

Of course she is pandering, but I am disappointed in Senator Edwards. I believed him to be an man of integrity but both Edwards and Gore seem to be waiting to see who has the best chance of winning instead of voting for the best candidate. Power is more important to our politicans than the state of this Country.

berit viklund   May 3rd, 2008 12:47 am ET

I hope the democratic party is smart enough to count in Florida voters. If the democrats doesn't want them I am sure the republican wants them in November.

Florida man   May 3rd, 2008 12:40 am ET

Hillary's Health INSURANCE plan is just what the people need. Just like schools, it is good to have BOTH Private and Public insurance plans out there. It promotes a healthy market with reasonable prices to choose from.

Now, only if they would do the same about the energy crisis. Government E85 stations in out of Mid-West states, anyone?

Kevin   May 3rd, 2008 12:39 am ET

Hillary is such a pandering clown.

Except her nose isn't red, it's brown.

Kevin   May 3rd, 2008 12:38 am ET

Hillary is such a pandering clown.

Gerald F.   May 3rd, 2008 12:34 am ET

I would rather see Senator Clinton win in this round for the White House. Senator Obama has great potential. But he needs a few more years I feel. If Hillary goes in first, she is best suited to take on the job of diving in and just getting it done. THATS WHERE HER SKILLS TRULY ARE. Her first as president then Senator Obama with a better seasoned skill behind him (that icing on the cake).
I feel he is not ready for the mountain of crud thats ahead. But Hillary is.
If he follows (and I do not mean that in anyway in a racial slur); the US will come out farther ahead over the next 16 years (8 years each).

Elizabeth   May 3rd, 2008 12:31 am ET

Good grief, CNN. Is your entire staff paid by the Clintons? I mean, take a look at the last 15 "tickers" and you will know what I mean. It's very obvious.

So much for objectivity.

Oh and Ms. Pander Bear Clinton was in full force at the JJ dinner. Oh, and Obama thanked the Edwards' too, but why would you report on Obama being nice or giving an AMAZING speech tonight?

I'm awaiting my answer while awaiting moderation.

Sandra Lai Lee   May 3rd, 2008 12:30 am ET

Hillary is a liar and she copies the same health care plan from John Edwards. I hoped the Edwards families need to understand and this is not fair for Obama. I am the Edwards supporter and I won't vote for Clinton after she indirectly push Edwards out of the race. I wish Edwards will stay in longer. If HRC get the nominee and I will vote for John McClain.

vudai   May 3rd, 2008 12:30 am ET

Hello my friends!!!
Wellcome my blog!

A Voter   May 3rd, 2008 12:30 am ET

Hillary Clinton is our next American President.

I have total faith ... there's just something about her.

Besides, Failure Is Impossible!

Eric in Lincolnton, NC   May 3rd, 2008 12:29 am ET

Way to go Hillary! You have my familys vote here in North Carolina. I will see you tommorow in Gastonia, NC

Hillary 08!!

ChristiB   May 3rd, 2008 12:28 am ET

Hillary will say anything to win – she's trying to get the endorsement before Tuesday.

McCain is a gaffe-a-minute – CNN report indepth on McCains admission that the US is in Iraq for Oil. This is shocking. He says he was talking about the Gulf – but that is not what he said on the clip.

Peter   May 3rd, 2008 12:28 am ET

Well John, she's offering you a high paying influential post in cabinet to accomplish your hearts desire. You know she's the only real agent for "chamge", see she's changing her tune already. Go ahead John, take the apple...its fruit is sweet and it will give you great knowledge!
Ssssssssssshe is your friend John, take a bite, maybe Elizabeth can have a bite too?

Max   May 3rd, 2008 12:27 am ET

So did Barack.. Where is that headline?? I was there and I stayed through the entire event.

Louise from ohio   May 3rd, 2008 12:24 am ET

If Edwards supports Hillary he looses all credibility.

If he will endorse anyone then it is Obama.

Jay   May 3rd, 2008 12:23 am ET

Hillary ALL THE WAY!!!! Our Only HOPE!

jt   May 3rd, 2008 12:21 am ET

Maybe the Edwards are scared to endorse Hillary because people may think they are racist.

My take on this is, they probable endorse Obama rather than accuse of being racist.

Hillary 08!! Just hang in there, the people will see who is the best candidate.

Hillary 08!!

Mike d.   May 3rd, 2008 12:20 am ET

pander pander clap clap point point pander pander

Sue, NY   May 3rd, 2008 12:20 am ET

Hopefully John Edwards sees through this pandering and endorses Obama. He should anyway because all through the debates he joined with Obama saying they were the candidates of change and she was the same old politics. Has he flip/flopped?

Barbara   May 3rd, 2008 12:17 am ET

So did obama cnn come on your coverage is getting so apparent that the public is going to turn on you over this.;I know I am mad as he..
and I am not going to watch your coverage because it is not honest.Anderson Cooper your pandering.

aware   May 3rd, 2008 12:16 am ET

Hillary 2008 and 2012! :)

Obama is a user! He used Jeremiah Wright as long as it suited his purposes. Then Wright insulted him by telling the truth about his parishioner, and Obama's ego took over. Obama does say what he needs to say as a politician. His story changes to suit the situation. Remember his comments behind closed doors in San Francisco! If you read his books you will see his imaginative misinformation and obfuscation.

Obama does not have the authenticity, values, character, knowledge, wisdom, humility, sensitivity, judgment or strength to be president of the USA. He is just an inept freshman senator with a huge ego, a hunger for power and the anointing of the far left.

Hillary is the best prepared and the most capable candidate the USA has had in a very long time. Obama is an aberration!

Hillary 2008 and 2012! :)

georgia   May 3rd, 2008 12:16 am ET

Trying to butter up the Edwards. Some how I think they are too moral for her camp. I hope I'm right. Why should they roll in the mud with her & the likes of Rendell who, win he's stopped for speeding in Pennsylvania, plays the "govenor "card. The batch of them (especially the Clintons) really feel rules & laws are for others.

Universal Health Care for ALL   May 3rd, 2008 12:15 am ET

She's got the right idea. Hopefully, so does John

pete   May 3rd, 2008 12:09 am ET

Hey cnn any chance of seeing any other article then one about hillary clinton? You guys are losing alot of ppl with this kind of reporting.

Michael4Obama08   May 3rd, 2008 12:08 am ET

Wow. Hillary will use anything to make sure she gets the nomination. Wow....just wow. Does she think that everyone is naive like her Billery fans?

Barack Obama/Ron Paul '08

Pam   May 3rd, 2008 12:06 am ET

Hillary, wipe that brown stuff off your nose.

JohnLee   May 3rd, 2008 12:06 am ET

I'm still a John Edwards supporter. To me, he is the real candidate. He's not one that is the politics of the old or a lot of puff and stuff. He actually would do something and he actually cares unlike the two (no make that three) bozos running for President.

Hillary, you won't get my vote if you are the nominee. I don't care if you paid me a thousand dollars – you won't get it! Obama, I don't care for him that much but he's the lesser of the three evils running.

Kathy   May 3rd, 2008 12:06 am ET

Oh no! Run John, RUN!!!!

Please do not vote for this woman. I don't understand why anyone can't see through her.

Make her go away!!!
