Elizabeth Taylor urges primary voters to back Clinton

The actress and activist officially endorsed Clinton Friday.

(CNN) - Actress Elizabeth Taylor urged voters in next week’s Democratic primaries to back Hillary Clinton's White House run, saying in a statement released Friday that the New York senator was “not a flibbertijibbet.”

“It would be magnificent for our country if Senator Clinton won the votes, hearts and minds of the people in Indiana and North Carolina on Tuesday. She’s a brilliant teacher and powerful leader. We all know what she’s about. We know what she isn’t. Senator Clinton is not a flibbertijibbet [sic]. She’s strong,” said Taylor.

“It’s also important for great leaders to have a sense of humor about themselves. The future of our great country rests in the hands of the next president. Who sits in the Oval Office will be determined greatly by the citizens of Indiana and North Carolina. In my heart, I know they will choose wisely and they will choose well.”

The actress and activist is a longtime Clinton supporter who has donated the legal maximum of $4,600 to the senator’s campaign.

In January 2007, Taylor also pointed to Clinton’s toughness as the reason she was contributing to her presidential bid. "I have contributed to Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign because she has a mind of her own and a very strong one at that," Taylor she said in a statement then. "I like the way she thinks. She is very savvy and a smart leader with years of experience in government, diplomacy and politics."

I have been waiting for a sign from heaven, and finally it has arrived. Liz Taylor, that model of stability ( she's been married , what, 7or 8 times?) has declared for Hillary. That's good enough for me. Whatever a flider..., filderb..., flipperty....Oh hell, whatever it is, I think Liz must be one.

Thank God! Elizabeth Taylor finally came out to back a candidate. For a while, I was lost. It's good that we have the views of people who have nothing to do with the campaign and obviously have done little else but gender research publicized in the hope of swaying some votes.

Oh yes – consider the source.

And a supporter of Michael Jackson as well, crippled for years with substance abuse issues, and a true spokesperson for main stream America?

Please good citizens of Indiana and North Carolina - look toward the future, leave aside the Clinton baggage of the past, and vote for a unifying figure, Barack Obama, with hope, trust and transparency to unite this great land after years of division, hatred and mistrust.

We did not have that under Clinton-I, and do not believe for a moment that Hillary will change stripes at this late date - although her "make-over" artists are doing a wonderful job of putting her out this week in cutsy pinks, yellows, etc. to show the "softer side?" Don't be fooled.

Who cares what she says. E.T. doesn't know anything about politics and has done nothing for our country. Get back to Beverly Hills!

Is that surprising: Liz Taylor is exactly Hillary's demographic: wealthy, old female.

and flibbertijibbet, where the heck did she get that from? Was she trying to impress us with an obscure word or does she really talk that way?

She is formidable she must be around 125 years old and probably already change any big or little piece of her body. Don't listen to her she is senile that she can't correct yet.

Has anyone noticed that no matter what blog CNN puts up for discussion everyone gravitates to the Clinton vs Obama race.

And so I would like to thank Elizabeth Taylor who still recognized talent when she hears it and see it...

Hillary R. Clinton, the first female president in the history of America and an Iron Women she will be for this glorious country...

God Bless America and God Bless Ms. Taylor

Barack Obama is the best man for the job period!!!!!!!!!
If he had certain physical characteristics that all the former presidents have in common he would have been the democratic nominee a long time now and would be on his way to become president. What a pity! wat a shame indeed!

And we should care because? I don't recall Liz Taylor being any kind of a political activist or expert on any issues. Many Hollywood types are very involved in politics and I respect them for their commitmet. But Liz Taylor? Really?

Considering how out of it she usually is, I doubt she said that. Probably one of her people is a Clinton backer.

Wow... I'm convinced! Not! With all due respect to Ms Taylor, but Clinton is not for the people. She's for herself and only herself!

yep, Senator Clinton is strong, strong-armed with belligerent rhetoric showing a readiness to annihilate another country from the podium of the white-house, positively negative. The future of the country does not rest with the past pathways of status quo.

I too hope that wisdom will prevail.

Who cares what this old bag thinks? Why is this news? Maybe they should go to the Chicago history museum and talk to the fossilized skeleton of of the Tyrannosaurus Rex to see who he endorses.
