Paul on his presidential run: 'The race is still on'.

(CNN) — Even though Rep. Ron Paul has never officially ended his long shot presidential bid, he’s ready to weigh in on the three remaining major candidates for the White House.

In an interview on The Situation Room, Paul told Wolf Blitzer that endorsing Sen. John McCain, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, “would really confuse” his supporters “because they know we have a precise program and we have to defend that program.”

Having a Republican win the upcoming presidential election is “secondary” for Paul who is more interested in defending the Constitution, having the country go in what he considers the right direction, having a sound currency, and achieving balanced budgets. Paul parts ways with McCain over McCain’s support for the Iraq war, his approach to U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and his willingness to spend federal dollars to support military operations in Iraq.

Instead, Paul favors Sen. Barack Obama because of positions on foreign policy. “But that’s doesn’t mean that’s an endorsement,” Paul quickly added.

Paul recently released a new book titled “The Revolution: a Manifesto.” “Unfortunately, it is revolutionary to talk about obeying the Constitution,” Paul said of the book’s title.

A GEORGIA MAMA THAT LOVES OBAMA!!!!   May 3rd, 2008 2:57 am ET

Come on Paul, you know you wanna do it! Please go ahead for the betterment of our country and back Obama!

At least please don't back Hillary! Anybody but that crazy witch! The best thing she could come up with for Foreign Policy is to obliterate Iran off the face of the earth if they attack "Israel", and not even if they attack us!

Are you kidding me? She is stuck on stupid and will say anything to win! Even if it doesn't make sense!

Paul, Please back Obama!!!

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT 2008

Proud American   May 3rd, 2008 2:55 am ET

Ron Paul the only Republican with any common sense!!

MacMo   May 3rd, 2008 2:41 am ET

Even though he didnt endorse Obama, he endorsed his foreign policy. I bet Ron Paul will also endorse Obama's take on the gas tax holiday issue. I voted Ron Paul in the primary and I'm going to vote Obama in the GE.

nalynd vogt   May 3rd, 2008 2:28 am ET

haha to the person who said "the conservatives in texas will vote for a democrat to replace you too"….. since there is no democrat for them to vote for. Ca Native who's the idiot now? LOL. To alan: Does having been a long-term congressman, military serviceman, doctor, and loyal husband make you an "unqualified whack job"? Re-think that one. Peter you got the nail on the head wish more of the above actually listened to what people say. That's a lost art isn't it? Listening…….. Obama supporters good luck you have the least of the evils and will probably win. ROCK ON!

Jimmie Sioux Falls   May 3rd, 2008 2:14 am ET

Franco maybe you have been living in LA LA LAND!!!! we have been in Afghanistan since late 2001 so it's not an invasion, it's called finishing the job which was to get Bin Laden, but instead we invaded Iraq which had nothing to do with Bin Ladenand 9/11. And second it is quit obvious that people like you don't leave the US because you seem to think that America runs everything and everybody should fall on their knees and worship us, NOT!!! Countries with government's are soviergn nations; just because we don't agree with that government on human right issues doesn't give us the right to dictate and tell them what they can an can't do, that's the reason why a lot of countries HATE US and are not willing to make an effort because a majority of the time America only is doing whats in it political and financial interest. Quit being so naive thinking that our American government has not done some bad things in the past that make other countries feel the way they do about us. The sooner we acknowledge that western rule doesn't fit every country just because we think it should the better our own American citizens will be.

Dave   May 3rd, 2008 2:14 am ET

I think Ron Paul fell on his head, He's talking like an empty headed obamanite!!!!!!!!!!
OBAMA WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER BE PRESIDENT OF ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ben   May 3rd, 2008 2:14 am ET

A lot of ignorance againts Ron Paul being posted here by people who really have no idea what they are talking about.
I researched Clinton, Obama, and McCain, as well as all the other candidates. Paul is the right choice.
For those who don't believe so, you're only making that decision based on a few media soundbytes and smear articles without basis.
Ronald Reagan commended this man. So did John McCain. He is consitently called the most honest man in Congress, who has the best grip on the economy (CHAIR of the House Finance Committee - Bernanke addresses him in committe, so he's no slouch) and foreign policy (according to Reagan himself).

My advice would be to read his book or don't speak about what you don't know. All you hear are people talking in ignorance against Paul, never actually addressing any of his constitutional positions - which by the way means that if you think his ideals are off base then you don't believe in our constitution.

The Revolution : A Manifesto, is simply brillant. If you value freedom, liberty, and your dollar, it is worth your time to educate yourself before they all are taken away from you.

Take a read - it will change your entire outlook on our government. Or just take the blue pill, and to back to sleep.

Mike   May 3rd, 2008 2:13 am ET

Ron Paul never says he likes Obama's foreign policy. The title of this post is deceiving.

I am a Ron Paul supporter.

I will never support or vote for Senator Obama.

Black Activist Alice Palmer Trusted Barack Obama

In 1995, Alice Palmer was a longtime Black activist, a "beloved elder stateswoman" in the Illinois state senate. She had a record of ??? and had earned a 'safe seat' - ie, no one even tried to run agaisnt her. She was doing excellent work for the Black activist community, and holding that seat securely for them, so they could spend their resources elsewhere.

Barack Obama had never run for office. He was a how-old wannabee hanging around the activist group/, hoping for someone to give him a boost.

Palmer had a chance to run in a special election for a higher office. She wanted someone to keep her 'safe seat' warm, stepping aside for her to have her seat back if necessary, but getting to inherit her seat if she won the higher office.

Obama was young, with an inspiring manner and an innocent grin. Palmer trusted him.

She introduced him to party elders and donors* as her probable successor, and helped him gather signatures to get on the ballot. She didn't get her agreement with him in writing. She trusted him.

Then Palmer's higher race went badly. To get on the ballot for her old seat, she also gathered signatures, all under the 1995 list of registered voters - hastily, collecting only the minimum number of signatures needed. When she and party elders asked Obama to keep his word and withdraw, offering him help in getting an additional post elsewhere, Obama refused. So Palmer prepared to let the voters decide between them.

But instead of letting the voters decide, Obama got Palmer (as well as the rest of his opponents) knocked off the ballot for her own seat. As soon as a 1996 list of registered voters went into effect, he challenged all their signatures against the new list. Since some voters had moved or died, not enough matches could be found. (Obama's own signatures were never put to the same test.)

So Obama charged Palmer with 'fraud', had her disgraced and knocked out of politics - rather than run a fair contest against her.

Running as the only name on the ballot, Obama took Palmer's safe seat. Soon he abandoned it for an unsuccessful higher office run himself. So instead of Palmer in her safe seat and Obama in another seat, their party had lost them both.

Palmer made some mistakes, but she is not running for President of the US on a claim of judgement and unity and courtesy, as Obama claims to be. Palmer's mistakes came from innocent optomism - and trusting Barack Obama….

@Ca Native

Ron Paul has been an elected Republican in Congress for many years, and was reelected this year by over 70%.

hamstring   May 3rd, 2008 1:44 am ET

Please Obama thinks that anything outside of Chicago is foreign!

Frustrated with the HillyBilly's   May 3rd, 2008 1:41 am ET

I respect Mr Paul's honesty.

Elizabeth Taylor thought Michael Jackson was an innocent victim. too. She's another aging woman who wants to see a skirt in the WH before she dies. Oh wait… Hillary doesn't wear a skirt. A pantsuit will have to due.

I hope all of the educated people in IN can do a quick schooling of the uneducated. Why ever should the uneducated voters determine the election?

James   May 3rd, 2008 1:33 am ET

Ron Paul will never endorse Obama. While he may appreciate some parts of his foreign policy, Obama's economic policies are something Ron Paul abhors. Obama is not about small government and less Federal interference in our personal lives and he has no clue about monetary policy and the damaging effects of the Federal Reserve which Ron Paul preaches. For all of you starry eyed Obama supporters thinking you will get an endorsement from Ron Paul, think again. As a Ron Paul supporter, I (as well as most every other Paul supporter I know) would never vote for Obama in an election (that goes for McCain and Clinton as well).

Ross in MD   May 3rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

A lot of Ron Paul supporters will go for Obama because of his fiscal responsibility and foreign policy ideas - an actual endorsement would be helpful though.

Paula in WI   May 3rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

This will help Obama.Clinton got support from Liz Taylor.LOL…Michael Jackson's friend.Clinton can't get decent support.

Janice Hough   May 3rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

You may not agree with Ron Paul's beliefs, but at least he has some!

And he's clearly not saying nice things about Obama in hopes of being Vice President or getting a cabinet position. Good for him for speaking his mind.

Chris, Albany, NY   May 3rd, 2008 1:16 am ET

I'd vote for an Obama/Paul ticket

franco   May 3rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

I am confused… What is this guy Ron Paul talking about? The Obama foreign policy? Leave Iraq and invade Afganistan? Have a meeting with known terrorist enemies? How simple! No wonder this guy didn't
get any support, should have had Oho-pra support him.

Ca Native   May 3rd, 2008 1:09 am ET

Ron Paul is not and never been a Republican. The guy is a libertarian - hence why he never breached double-digit support nationally. Ron Paul's endorsement is as meaningful as Dennis Kucinich.

But go ahead RP - show us all just how much of an idiot you really are. I'm sure the conservatives in Texas will vote for a democrat to replace you too.

David   May 3rd, 2008 12:55 am ET

I really like Ron Paul, he just has a lot of common sense. He drew a lot of cheers from the republican debates concerning foreign policy. I can't believe, and am dissappointed that McCain has got the Republican nomination. Obama and Paul has the best foreign policy judgement. Obama '08!

Dale Davis, Glendora, California   May 3rd, 2008 12:52 am ET

Total capitulation to aggressors and blame America people. Does this surprise you?

Shirley   May 3rd, 2008 12:50 am ET

Ron Paul believes in our Constitution as does Senator Obama. I would have voted for Paul if he would just have campaigned.

Jesse   May 3rd, 2008 12:48 am ET

Hello now we have a Rep saying he like Obama publiclly

Obama's truth and honest way of doing things is why people are voting for him

Peter   May 3rd, 2008 12:40 am ET

Mr. Paul is the only one of these clowns (and clownettes) that doesn't come off as a liar or hypocrite. I heard what you said and it was not an endorsement, but you said it clear and fair! God bless.

janet   May 3rd, 2008 12:37 am ET

If not Obama…then I would consider a vote for this guy….he's not your typical republican war monger…

jo   May 3rd, 2008 12:37 am ET

Yeah my brother said Ron Paul first Obama second.

Jim Molmen   May 3rd, 2008 12:36 am ET

When it comes to domestic policy, Obama and Paul are on opposite ends of the political spectrum. One wants more government, the other wants very little government. Go Ron Paul!

JB   May 3rd, 2008 12:36 am ET

Ron Paul said they are all basically the same but Obama would be slightly better on the war except that he would go spend the money somewhere else anyways.

That does not equate to "likes Obama's Foreign Policy"

please.

When voters are ready to go past the Divalicious President Idol stage and get into the real issues, come to RonPaul2008.com and let Ron Paul teach you a few things about real money and real freedom.

Mike   May 3rd, 2008 12:31 am ET

Paul would fit right in with the "Ivory Tower Limo Liberals" who think they are smarter than the rest of us. Why he continues to call himself a conservative Republican is beyond me.

Jason   May 3rd, 2008 12:18 am ET

Ron Paul's compliment towards Obama isn't exactly a complement. He is an egomaniac who is "running for president" just as part of a grand scheme in which he will achieve nothing. By the way, anyone who has any sense at all would never put Ron Paul on their ticket…just throwing that out there.

nellie   May 3rd, 2008 12:12 am ET

Just brilliant. He had to say he likes Obama's foreign policy, but in actuality it's to improve Barack's standing in foreign policy. Barack has done nothing. We are not stupid. Nice try

Rusty Bedsprings   May 3rd, 2008 12:11 am ET

Obama/Paul 08 !!!!

Great way to end divisive, partisan politics AND return America to it's greatness.

joe   May 3rd, 2008 12:09 am ET

Obama is a stateist socialist and all Paul was ponting out was he may keep you out of a war in the Middle East, he'll spend the money elseware around the world. Screw all three of the CFR candidates. We on the right have the Libratarian or Constitution Party to vote for. Obama supporting the Constitution….oh that's funny. Give me, give me, give me yo money cracker! We don't have enough federal programs to support the da ho's and the bro's!

STOP THE MADDNESS!!!!   May 3rd, 2008 12:04 am ET

WOW! WOW! WOW! That says it all for all of you that are Paul supporters we got plenty of room for you on the Obama Train! All aboard!!

Seriously, Thank you Mr. Paul for your encouraging words of support even if not a commented endorsement. That really takes courage and a strong sense of right from wrong, if only voter will hear your words and those of many others that have made every attempt to explain to voters that Obama is the REAL DEAL on issues that concern this nation and it's people and that's ALL that matters not who he knows, because we ALL know some shady people. All of us to include Hillary and John. Obama is a good man even quoted by his opponets.

Torn   May 3rd, 2008 12:02 am ET

I think is time to win the revolution on step at a time. Since foreign policy is are biggest step then Obama it is. I'm crossing lines and voting Obama.

Yes we can, one step at a time

Chris   May 3rd, 2008 12:01 am ET

Yes, McCain will lose because of his "hawkishness" stance on Iraq.

What we need now more than ever is energy independence. Who's with me on this?

It's the right thing to do R. Paul. A vote for Obama to stand strong against the Political machine that has take out country into the ground. We don't want the McShame/Bushwacked policies. An no to wrong way Hillary street. I am tired of the Clinton's soap opera drama that disgrace our country with their bedroom blues.

It time for a change in policies and change for the country.

kayg   May 2nd, 2008 11:49 pm ET

Ron Paul & Barack Obama, two men who understand and respect the Constitution. Voters and superdelegates should really consider this when choosing their candidate.

Don't be fooled   May 2nd, 2008 11:48 pm ET

This country will destroy itself if it fails to understanding that resistence to change when on a sure path to destruction is utter insanity! Ron Paul and his supporters along with the Obama movement understand very well what's happening. Evidence of idiots posing as intellgent people is clearly seen in the Clinton, McCain alliance. No matter, Obama will not be denied. He can't be beaten!

Frank, MO   May 2nd, 2008 11:48 pm ET

He is one of the honest politicians - I don't agree with him on many issues, but I rather have an honest president than an illusion of a president who is always right.

can you say CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZY!!!!

Al, CA   May 2nd, 2008 11:46 pm ET

Of course, to save country and constitution we need Obama. The country may not survive Bush-3, and Hillary would be wavering along any political wind, as she did with Iraq war. The economy we have now and the Iraq disaster had not come from democratic or republican ideas (which at their best are not so different) - all this came from extremists (call them extreme right or extreme left, or neocons - they are too far from normal politics) - the extremists which used this ignorant son of a president. Now, I would be anyway very reluctant to take risk again with family-based royalty, this time wife of a president. But regardless of that, she is clearly incapable of any reasonable judgment.

Obama 2008

xtina, chicago IL   May 2nd, 2008 11:45 pm ET

there's no way Ron Paul likes all of Obama's policies. Obama wants to make government regulation and power the mainstays of his administration. it's almost as if obama wants to see our country crumble so he can apply his vast socialist plan. Im sick of obama and his wife mocking our country and saying we're not a great country.

OBAMA/Paul 08

Rick S   May 2nd, 2008 11:39 pm ET

Obama and Paul are pretty similar on foriegn policy and personal freedom. Obama really shines as a leader. Paul really shines on economic policy and would make a great addition to Obama's administration on economic matters.

Tim   May 2nd, 2008 11:36 pm ET

Come on Ron Paul, don't let Party lines stop you from endorsing a great candidate. In this story you showed you approve of Obama's Policys. Plus in one of the Republican Debates you even stated that Obama's views were much like your own. Do America a great favor, and endorse Obama like you want to do.

jimmy   May 2nd, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Another radical for radicals. Give me a break.

Jim in Indiana   May 2nd, 2008 11:33 pm ET

What Ron Paul said about Obama is ten time more important than anything Elizabeth Taylor has to say. Other GOP VIPs who have complimented Obama without a formal endorsement: Chuck Hagel and Colin Powell. Both are Nam vets. Enough said.

Rob   May 2nd, 2008 11:30 pm ET

I really wanted Ron Paul to win, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Obama is the only DECENT choice left. I'll probably vote for him, because Hillary is a liar and McCain is obsessed with war.

Jed in Texas   May 2nd, 2008 11:26 pm ET

Rep. Paul, please have your name on the ballot this fall. Maybe you can even be the VP under Obama. Now that would be CHANGE. I am an Obama supporter, but you would be my second choice without question. Your stand on Iraq is not only ethical but very courageous being in the Republican Party. I greatly applaud you for standing up to your counterparts. Thank you for your service.

Ron Paul Supporter   May 2nd, 2008 11:26 pm ET

No way, I will never vote for Obama. He is the worst candidate of the three. We need a third party and I hope Paul runs. We need to save our democracy by getting rid of our two party system. Let's not be crazy and elect Obama!!!

I am disappointed in you Ron, we need to stop the Obama cult

Jermaine   May 2nd, 2008 11:24 pm ET

There is Hope! I am a military officer, a TEXAN who switch prior to the Primary to cast my vote for OBAMA. I am base in Oklahoma and Ron Paul bumper stickers, along with OBAMA can be seen on many Soldier's vehicles. I wrote to the DNC today 2nd May for OBAMA to meet with Ron Paul, Ralph Nader, Govenorator of California, Jesse Vantura, Bloomberg, Ross Perot and other's to unit America. OBAMA is a strong constitutionalist and have a President who pledge to govern under the terms of the American constitution is more important than one who wears a flag pin and lack judgement or one who want's vote base on party affiliation. I pride myself of been an Officer and a Soldier and the constitution is most important. McCain is a Manchurian Candidate, Hillary is a Nixon in disguised and at worst a Communist. OBAMA is a Lincoln Constinutionist and his push for a Foreign Policy that makes sense and an America that is "AMERICA STRONG!" (Jermaine Athill, US Army), will ensure that we are respected the world over again. The time for CHANGE, and action is now, YES WE CAN, and RON PAUL have shown that leadership who have judgement see unity and the constitution above all divisive, pandering, racist, fear mongering tactics that have become the mainstay of Hillary/Mccain and the MSM.

YES WE CAN-CHANGE IS COMING TOMORROW!

bern   May 2nd, 2008 11:11 pm ET

Actually, Ron Paul endorsing Obama makes a bunch of sense. Whatever else you might think about Paul, he does seem to recognize the need to preserve the constitution and individual rights. I think that is consistent in principle with the return to the constitution advocated by Barack. It is, in any case, a much better approach then the Bush / McCain neo-gestapo approach to the Bill of Rights. I'm am less convinced that their foreign policy are very compatible in fact but it is likely a better fit then McCain. Both Paul and Obama want to end the war but Obama is not an isolationist and I think Paul essentially is.

I respect the fact that you support the Constitution too. Indeed, Obama has taught it and has obeyed it and will obey it as president. So these are other similarities that I am happy to illustrate.

If I wasn't an Obama supporter, I would vote for you. I have a feeling you represent a new Republican party that will have playing a major role in the future. Like Obama, I agree that the Republicans (not the neocons) and Democrats can disagree without being disagreeable. Hopefully the two parties will be very cordial to each other in the coming future.

Superdelegates take note

Come on Paul…its okay! Obama has taught constitutional law, believes in balancing budgets, and has a sensible foreign policy. These are three strikes against McCanin and two strikes against Hillary.

Come on aboard Ron Paul and supporters…the Obama train is leaving the station on June 3rd.

Jay Shah   May 2nd, 2008 10:23 pm ET

As a Ron Paul supporter, I hope he endorses Barack Obama. Obama would in fact defend the consitution, end the war in Iraq, and have a noble foreign policy.

David Minneapolis   May 2nd, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Ron Paul is going to endorse Barack Obama. This would bode very well for him in the general election, given the fact that Ron Paul has been picking up a lot of independent votes. It would also signal the weakness of the McCain campaign and would negate any effect that Ralph Nader might have on the final outcome.
