Sen. Hillary Clinton participates in the MomLogic.com broadcast in North Carolina, Saturday.

CARY, North Carolina (CNN) — There’s no escaping politics four days before the Indiana and North Carolina primaries. But before a targeted women’s audience in an online town hall Saturday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton tried to play up her parental side.

Asked about advice on raising teenagers, Clinton told the audience it’s the quality of time with your children that matters.

In the MomLogic.com forum, she said, “be there when you’re there with them. It’s easy to be looking at your Blackberry, to be on the cell phone, to be distracted. Somehow you have to create the space and time.”

Clinton said it’s important that children “really, really know you they have your undivided attention.”

Parenting advice is also a common part of candidate Barack Obama’s stump speech, often telling his audience how to help children in school.

She told the audience in a high school auditorium and online that it's important to pick your battles with children, saying she chose not to fight with Chelsea Clinton when she showed up to President Clinton's second inauguration in a skirt she thought was way too short."

CNN’s Alexander Marquardt, traveling with the Clinton campaign, said she drew laughs talking about raising Chelsea in the White House.

Clinton said that meant “the Secret Service went on her dates. A lot of her girlfriends’ mothers liked when they double-dated, because there was a guy with a gun in the front seat.”

Chelsea returns to North Carolina to campaign Sunday. She was spotted Saturday afternoon at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville.

if the clintons and the bushes have taught us anything, it is that they are selfish, elitist, rich snobs who do not represent american values. did we learn nothing from the clintons' last stint in the white house? there are valid reports that they STOLE White House furniture on their way out the door! these folks are not like the rest of us. no way, no how. Hillary has more in common with Paris Hilton than anyone else.

Obama supporters have posted some disgusting comments. Grow up. The most negative persons in this campaign hasn't been Hillary, Obama, or the GOP, its been the Obama supporters.

Seriously, look at Chelsea and say with a straight face that the Clinton's didn't do a great job raising her. Stop with the petty personal insults, it goes against everything your candidate stands for and is doing exactly what you falsely accuse Hillary of doing; splitting the party in two.

mama for obama   May 3rd, 2008 4:32 pm ET

yes i'm sure hillary and her cheating, impeached felon of a husband did a great job raising Chelsea. and defending the character of Chelsea as proof her mama did a good job? really??? do you know her? are you behavioral scientists? seems clear to me, but my education backs this: the behavior of one's parents has greater influence on offspring than any other single variable. we can all stand on stage and look prim and proper. tough act!

Kentucky   May 3rd, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I for one am impressed with the way that she has turned out given the nasty history of the Clinton's. Her father was preoccupied in the White House and her mother was in trenched in a fox hole in Bosnia hiding from sniper fire.

Looking at the way Hillary Clinton raised her daughter shows America how she'll run the country. Chelsea Clinton is successful and educated.

ORANGE COUNTY,CALI-Don   May 3rd, 2008 4:26 pm ET

My father called on Americans to ask what they could do for their country.

Those who answered his call built a movement that transformed our country and brought out the best in our national character.

Barack Obama has followed in that tradition — dedicating himself to public service as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago and then as a state and U.S. Senator.

Now, Barack is calling on a new generation of leaders to get involved and help transform this country.

The Obama Organizing Fellowship is designed not just to help win this election, but to strengthen our democracy by training dedicated volunteers in communities across the country.

Answer the call. Ask what you can do — for this movement, for our democracy, and for this country.

with foreign lobbyists to sell your job. And Hillary, the liar, can turn
her head and act like she didn't know.

Oh, my God, Americans don't read the facts. Google Clinton's and

Hillary is fighting for the nation. While doing so her opponenet is not only OBAMA. She has been fighting with TIM RUSSET / CHRIS MATHEWS / DAN ABRAMS / KEITH OLDERMAN / ANDERSON COOPER & HIS TEAM / . All these media pundits demonstrated they can not be fair & balanced. If you want to take a side please endorse a candidate and do so and viewers would consider you as honest because you are officially siding with some one. You guys do not have that courage at all. Shame on you.

While that is sound advice, I do not belive that had the time or
the opportunity to do that while her daughter was a teenager.
She was far too busy keeping track of her husbands trysts.

I have a hard time understanding why my fellow Americans are even considering Obama. There is no question he is suave. But please that isn't going to pay the bills. You can't pay the bills if you can't close the deal.

Yes this is about race because he would not be where he is otherwise and reliable sources publicly disclosed that the Wright problen would have blown this man out of the running had this been exposed 4 months ago.

Why can't Hillary see that she is the Democratic version of Mike Huckabee? She has no way to win and by staying in this only waste time that could be spent attacking McCain. Very basic, bubble-gum advice from Hillary about how to raise a kid. Being rich and busy with oh-so important careers, she no doubt had nannies and hirelings raise Chelsea.

Still, considering the lacklustre choice of presidential candidates available, she is still the BEST choice.

Hilary should not have been allowed to run for President because her husband or maybe he is her Daddy Bill already served time as President. It seems that America has a Royal family when it comes to who run for President. One day I will raise my entire family to take turns at the Presidency. Here is Clinton strategy kissed up to the Republicans because sadly if McCain wins he will appoint Hilary to be his Vice President. Sorry Hilary you have know legs. You lean on Bill and you suck up to McCain. Hand Hilary a bone.

JDM   May 3rd, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Let Obama go. It's over for him and he knows it. It doesn't do any good to say 'i support obama" and then trash Hillary Clinton and her supporters and those who haven't even made up their mind yet.

Also, trying to invent scandals that don't exist in an effort to counterbalance Obama's scandals won't work. People are not that stupid. It's pathetic for you and it's pathetic for obama.

OBAMA-WRIGHT is what you would get if he ever became President, but there is liitle chance now that he will. I never thought he could win the nomination considering that he doesn't represent much of America, only a certain part of it. Hillary has been involved with almost everyone from every walk of life in the US.

It's a lost cause and you might as well accept that now.

The hostility from some Americans regarding Senator Clinton's parenting belies a profound lack of objectivity. The saying that the proof is in the pudding shows that the Clinton's did a pretty darn good job of raising their daughter. She is a well-spoken, loyal, intelligent, contributing member of society with a great deal of poise, grace, and charm. She is a graduate of Stanford University. She obviously really loves her parents, has never been in trouble with the law, i.e., picked up for DUI (unlike Jenna Bush), or drugs (numerous Kennedy children) so I think I would lay off the disparaging comments about Hillary's parenting.

FICTION STORIES BY HILLARY CLINTON. no thanks, it just doesn't hold my interest.

Alfredo (SSG)   May 3rd, 2008 2:51 pm ET

I'm sure her kid had her undivided attention. I mean with Bill off spreading his seed with anything that walked, she had more than enough time for her kid. I guess that is why she seems so bitter now.

Billy from FL   May 3rd, 2008 2:48 pm ET

If it's any indication of how Clinton will run the country, just look

at Chelsea. The perfect young lady that any parent would be

proud of. I can see it all now, Obama's kids running around the

white house chanting Rap music.

Penny   May 3rd, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Clinton changes her message depending on where she is at. Why not have a consistent message with voters. What expert supports the tax gas holiday? Did you have a SHELL expert explain the reason how this could help the people????

Brian D Alger II   May 3rd, 2008 2:48 pm ET

She had the state of Arkansas pay for a nanny for Chelsea in the governors mansion; a charge that is not recognized as an effective use of tax payer dollars, and not putting down their political career to take care of her daughter was never a concern. Sounds like pandering to me.

Unfair politics and media   May 3rd, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Why is CNN is favoritizing Clinton?

Every headline for Obama is worded negatively, while Clinton's is positive. Heck! They've even put rev.Wright back on the front page of the politics section, digging up dirt that has just settled. In the wake of Tuesday's elections-perfect timing.

Who is paying you to do this CNN?

Chic   May 3rd, 2008 2:41 pm ET

What's the story here?????????????????????????

CNN PLEASE REPORT PAUL VS CLINTON

Steve from Castle Rock, CO   May 3rd, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Oh, yes. The Clintons have been role models for our teenagers for year. From infidelity to lying (remember, he was disbarred and impeached for lying. She lied about her trip to Serbia) to making questionable profits in the commodities market to looting the white house as they left. This is who I want to be a role model for America's children!

Carmen   May 3rd, 2008 2:38 pm ET

I've been serving our great country for 23 years and am very proud. Today, however, I break down to my knees with such disappointment. Senator Obama represents the core values of a leader. Integrity, honor, personal courage, morals, selfless service, respect, and loyalty. Coupled with his great wisdom, intelligence and sound judgment, there's hope for our nation which is unraveling. We have been blessed with the thread that can mend us. Senator Obama is that thread. Stop living with hatred, bigotry and racism…however masked it is. We are African American, Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian. ONE.

applecrispbetty   May 3rd, 2008 2:37 pm ET

One kid, big deal. I've got four. My mom had eight. We don't need lessons from Clinton.

Advice on raising a teenager:

When Daddy cheats in the White House, make him campaign for you!

marty in Indiana   May 3rd, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Wait a minute. Wasn't it Hillary who mockingly said she "could have stayed home and baked cookies" but she chose instead to become a lawyer. And now she is giving advice about parenting skills? Something is wrong with this picture! Also as I recall… she used to tell us that it takes a "village to raise a family" and I recall how incensed and outragged the Christian community was back when Bill was President… how outragged we were that Hillary didn't think Christians could and should be allowed to raise a family by itself… in other words the government should help us raise our kids. How quickly we forget how much people used to hate Hillary and now women just love her. Go figure… how soon we forget! Well you won't foget if she becomes President and she won't let Christians teach values to our children.

silence do-good   May 3rd, 2008 2:36 pm ET

OK – we have seen a sweet story about Obama's family ("picnic" story). His fans said rightly so, that it makes a nice family image.

Now we have a positive story about Hillary talking about family – sounds like balanced reporting.

To see if there is sexism still out there let's wait and see if the Obama cult will be filling these comments with name calling and hateful things….

McShame   May 3rd, 2008 2:35 pm ET

i dont want her in the W.H again,

shame on her.

The women Clinton is supposed to be fighting for dont even have the Blackberries. Is she being an elitist? does she know that the no college white blue collar workers are never at home because they cannot afford to be at home and look at blackberries?
