Bill Clinton joked his still can make people faint.
Bill Clinton joked his still can make people faint.

LENOIR, North Carolina (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton is cracking wise about his ability to make people faint, telling voters in North Carolina he didn't think he still had it in him.

Clinton was campaigning Sunday for his wife's presidential bid on a hot and sunny day in western North Carolina. The state's primary is Tuesday.

After one person fell during an event in Lenoir, Clinton joked: "Somebody faints at nearly every one of these things now. At my age, I didn't think I could make anybody faint anymore."

A young girl walked away from an earlier event in Marion after fainting. Emergency workers brought the elderly man in Lenoir water and ice and used campaign signs to fan him. The man was alert as emergency workers took him away on a stretcher.

Concerned Canadian   May 4th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Bill Clinton was a very good President despite all the naysayers .

He was the best President the US had in the last 20 years. Why some in the media or in the public take cheap shots on this guy is mind boggling. The only thing I can think of why they do this is jealousy.

Bill Clinton was well liked not only in the US but in most of the rest of the world too. He presided over a propserous economy during his tenure as President , he did more for the African American cause than anyone else did in politics and he balanced the budget !!

With Hillary as President and Bill Clinton back in the White House it would be a whole lot more beneficial and formidable for the US than a Barack Hussein Obama and Michelle 'Bridezilla' who's not even proud of the USA.

charles   May 4th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

bill is right he still got it.we love him.he is still the best in the business in the past 20 years.

2Nurselady   May 4th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

It's really the truth. I was at a Clinton event and a person fainted. I also saw Bill Clinton speaking on TV and a person standing behind him fainted as did an audience member who was not pictured on screen on TV in the audience. I think it's his charisma that causes this.

And, Hillary as well. I believe someone fainted at one of her events fairly recently. In her case, I think it's that people cannot believe there is a candidate who is actually giving a voice to their issues, hopes, and dreams in this country. She is one of a kind!

Go Hillary!

fontapa   May 4th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Poor guy probably saw Bill at the podium and thought "Oh, God, not again…" before he popped.

Bill and Hillary like to remind us of the glory days of his administration, but those of us who were around back then remember the endless flow of scandal and scum stemming from the Clinton's behavior. Bills filthy coat-tails cost Gore the presidency, and while America was caught up shoveling through the lawsuits and tabloids caused by these two, Osama Bin Laden rose to power under the radar. We've all paid the price of these two clowns for the last 8 years. Lets not make it another 8 please…

PhilT   May 4th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

I voted for him twice.
The best in the last 20 years isn't saying much. The competition leaves much to be desired.
Bill was the last "boy from hope". Barack is the new "man of hope".
If anyone saw his speech tonight at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Indiana, it was a sharp contrast to Hillary's.
For most of her speech it sounded as though she was talking to a bunch of schoolchildren, which is typically her style.
When Barack spoke it was more like a conversation with equals. People with equal values, morals hopes and dreams. people who want to bring this country together to fight the challenges that face us as a nation, unified, not divided.

"Your old road is rapidly aging, please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand, for the times they are a changing".

Yes, we CAN.

Everyone says that Bill was a great president and because of that, Hillary will be too. So given that logic since Bush I was a good president, his son was going to be good too? Yeah, that so held true. Hillary is just another politician riding the coattails to get in. She had to sneak her way into the Senate by moving to New York instead of going to her home state of Arkansas. We don't need another politician, we need a leader. Obama'08.

Bill and Hillary have been around too long. I don't care what he did in the White House! It has all been erased by the whoring and filthiness he brought to this country. He is a nasty old man and Hillary is nasty for staying with him! But we all know why she stayed with him, so she can pimp him by making him get out there and campaign for her! She does not care about any of us! This is a game with these people. Bill loves the White House and wants to get back up in there. She wants to make history and don't care how she does it! Liar!

I don't understand why people are making this as if it were something good. A man fainted, probably due to heat exhaustion or dehydration and all most of you people can say is,"yeah go ahead Bill". I always wondered why Hillary Clinton's base is considered to me uneducated. Please think people. If you stand out in the sun for too long without taking in any water you will become lighted which can induce fainting. I find his comment to be very insensitive to say the least. This man shows up nearly two hours late for an event, a person waiting to hear him faints and he pokes fun at it. This guy is a jerk.

The gas tax is nothing but fluff and political pandering. What is much more critical is the sleazy conspiracy between the Clintons,Rev. Wright and the news media. I have listened to the Rev. Wright speech that sparked this manufactured controversy. Guess what I heard. The Rev. Wright gushes with love for the Clintons. Don't believe it? Listen to the speech. Rrev. Wright Loves the Clintons! The speech never mentions Obama once. Rev. Wright was a confidant of the Clintons during the Bill Presidency and he still loves and supports them This whole Rev. Wright contoversy is a plot by the Clintons,Wright and the media to discredit Obama. If the truth comes out. Rev. Wright would become a Clinton controversy as it indeed should be.

Since all the other blogs are closed I'd like to ask that you go to the blog "Race tightening in North Carolina" and read the blog from Abdula Johnson-DC. If this is the way most Afro Americans are thinking then a lot of people who have been saying race isn't an issue are really mistaken. I have said before that Afro Americans are voting on race not issues and this one is a very good example and I beleive every word of it. The words are positively scary.

Hillary said in an interview that Bill won't have any desk in the White House (we all know why) he will have to take care of his foundation so he will have no say. The reason people faint when Hillary and Bill are campaigning it either because of bad breath or they sent a spell to some weak persons in the audience.

Rex, Toledo, Ohio   May 5th, 2008 12:13 am ET

He didn't faint. He was poisoned by the obama witches coven. Then, he was taken by the whambulance to the underground lair where the evildoers drooled and gyrated. Pictures of rev. Wright hung in stark relief on the walls above the human sacrifice. Gnarled hands appeared out of the darkness, slowly placing the gurney on which the poor man lay directly in front of, in front of, oh, I can't go on. Please, don't let them get me. eeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh
!

T L   May 5th, 2008 12:14 am ET

Someone said Bush I was a good president? Like father like son, both are horrible. Bill Clinton was a good president. Will Hillary Clinton be? We don't know, but it doesn't hurt to have a great former president as a husband and an advisor. Hillary Clinton failed UHC because the special interest shot it down, she definitely knows better what doesn't work, so she tries to make it work with HMO. Without that, nothing will come close to UHC in the near future. "Elite" candidates don't see the immediate concern of public health. Maybe Obama thinks like Wright that government created AIDS and have cures for people; all other viruses will also not be a problem. NOT! If Obama wins the WH, there is no audacity of hope but the audacity of NOPE!

If Bill hadn't been so busy having affairs Osama Bin Laden would never had gotten such a free ride and as far as the prosperity-well, WE the taxpayers were so busy paying for investigations and scandals on the two of YOU-most of us DON'T have $109 mil. in the bank. Please go away. God I am so sick of them acting as if no one else in America is qualified to occupy the WH.

chrissy,san diego   May 5th, 2008 12:47 am ET

I am a huge Hillary supporter…albeit, always having mistrusted Bill.
He's an albatross around her neck in this campaign.
I am pleased that I am able to see them as individuals, rather than
collectively - she is all that he is not : LOYAL and TRUSTWORTHY.
But one must be truthful, they are both extremely bright - that's what
the ongoing attraction is all about -

HILLARY will be a good PRESIDENT and will surprise her
detractors. One need only reflect on what inner strength she been
required to call upon through her tumultuous marriage to an out and
out philanderer - she is a determined individual that possesses what
America needs.

Jon, Somewhere, MI   May 5th, 2008 12:48 am ET

I hate Bill almost as much as I hate Obama, and I'm only mildly sympathetic towards Hillary. Seriously, Democrats, out of Biden, Richarson, Dodd and Gravel the best you can do is a washed up dyansty and a neophyte?!?! No wonder you people have lost 7 out of the past 10 elections.

Fab   May 5th, 2008 12:52 am ET

I don't understand you people. The clinton did good for this country and they are still fighting to try to do good again for us. What's wrong for being ambitious by tring to help us. They have a record Mr. Kool don't. So who cares about their personal feelings as long as they work for us which they did both of them. So chill out and pray that Hillary gets elected if not the republicans are going to have fun with Mr. Kool, an empty suit who is arrogant and he's using the race card to be elected as well as the media CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, etc. if they have done their job he will never be where he is today and you all fell for it. SO god bless us all.

ChicoSez   May 5th, 2008 12:53 am ET

The nastiness of the Obama camp toward the most sucessful DEMOCRATIC president since Roosevelt shows that these people aren't really dems, they belong to a personality cult. A cult that is trying to take over the dem party and it may well succeed. Obama has split the dem party by his negative tactics. The new dem party is not for me or any of us old timers. Might as well vote for McCain since Hillary is so much like McCain now.

Snapper, Seattle   May 5th, 2008 12:57 am ET

What an idiot! With all the hot air coming out of his big yap, it's no wonder they all didn't faint! The clintons were bad enough before they reached the White House, then became worse while there, and now both have become so egotistical it's pathetic. But as long as the media continues to groom them into something they're not, they'll continue to draw crowds, kind of like the old circus bearded lady, or alligator man.
