Y'know it helps to actually be *in* the South if you're going to talk about it. Southern Democrats come in two distinct types: urban, highly-educated progressives (like in Asheville, Chapel Hill, Durham) and moderate-to-conservative blue-collar populists out in the countryside.

Contrary to your thinking, not all old-school Dixiecrats got the message in '68 and switched parties. There's still a sizeable number of people who vote Democrat in part because they've always voted Democrat, who still revere FDR for his New Deal policies, but who will vote pro-life, pro-gun and anti-gay.

North Carolina has more urban, high-education areas than most southern states, and it does have a history of being more progressive than its neighbors. But don't let that fool you into thinking the average Democrat tobacco farmer would have much in common with a kid from Portland (or even Asheville, for that matter).

Most Southern "rednecks" have been voting Republican since the GOP took over the South in the 60's.

I doubt very much if Hillary gets much of their support.

Southern Democrats, like Western Red State Democrats, tend to be quite liberal.

Gotta love them D's, tho. Is there anything more entertaining than elitist D's ripping fellow elitist D's, while both pander to whatever subset of the electorate that they feel is their manifest destiny to follow them? Sharpton admonishes Obama while he grudgingly disses his 20 year spiritual mentor/family pastor as the woman a majority of Americans consider just plain evil slams them both. And I haven't even mentioned that Barack is the most liberal member out of 100 US Senators, a title even Kennedy can't claim.

Question. When whichever of these two lose in the fall, what will the inevitable excuse be? The primary was too long? America is too racist? Too chauvenistic? The "other" liberal spoiled it ala Nadar/Gore? Somebody man up and tell me up front what the delusional out will be, other than liberalism is a deserved loser?

GO BARACK ! Show you can win even with the Republicans doing all they can to help Hillary.

But this is exactly why the Dems will never win the GE – you're too divided for your own good. The Republicans aren't. They wouldn't care if David Duke was running in their party – they ONLY vote party. Regardless of the outcome. All they care about is beating the Dems. It's the same old song and dance every GE.

If the Dems want to win – UNITE and quit bickering like little children. If not, McCain WILL be President from 2009-2012. Live with it.

My family considers Obama electable, suffice to say.
