(CNN)–The spin wars are heating up.

Tonight won’t do much to change the delegate gap, say Barack Obama’s senior aides – and any day they break even makes it that much tougher for Clinton to make up the shortfall.

"We think we won a really big victory here tonight - it insures that regardless of what happens in Indiana that we are going to extend our delegate lead," senior adviser David Axelrod told reporters. "We have taken another big step down the road here… The important thing is that this was not a game changer, folks, in any way, shape or form."

Earlier in the week, Clinton had said a win in North Carolina could be a “game changer.”

But Deputy Communications Director Phil Singer reminded reporters that Barack Obama had said that Indiana might be the “tiebreaker,” given Clinton’s victory in Pennsylvania and his expected win in North Carolina.

Indiana may not be in the win column at this point in the evening, but they say the exit polls out of both states Tuesday night have bolstered their electability argument: they show Obama’s supporters are more likely to support Clinton in the fall than vice versa.

At the heart of their thinking: Florida and Michigan. Together with Ohio, says the Clinton team, those three states are vital to any Democratic win – and the New York senator has claimed all three.

All you Clinton supporters, the ones that believe hang on every word she says, are you going to disavow her when she drops out and backs Obama for president? Will you disavow her when she makes the plea that Obama is the ONLY choice for president? What will you say about her then? Get real, you voters are smarter than that to cut off your nose to spite your face.

Obama '08...our next Democratic Presidential nominee.

WOW... Hillary said something I can agree with, that we like to see her husband on the campaign trail ... in public ... where we can watch him and keep him away from our daughters.

Clinton is finished. Its over. Tonight she almost conceded the race, Chelsea had tears in her eyes and Bill looked sombre.

A point that has so far been missed is that even with "Operation Chaos" Hillary only won by 4 points (that is so far).

"At the heart of their thinking: Florida and Michigan. Together with Ohio, says the Clinton team, those three states are vital to any Democratic win – and the New York senator has claimed all three." But Obama wasn't even on the ballot in one of those, and didn't really campaign in either... so is it that much of a shock that Hillary took them?

EJ in TX   May 6th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I wonder how many people that got turned away in Indiana were planning to vote for Obama. We heard about the 98 year old nun. But, how many college aged students that overwhelmingly support Obama were unable to vote? With her only leading by 4 pts. it is a question we should all be asking.

Keith (Grand Bahama Island - The Bahamas)   May 6th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

The people of the Bahamas are watching the Democratic race with keen interest. Most if not all Bahamians think Obama would be an ideal president and just what America need in these troubling times. It appears to us as we watch the delegate and superdelegate count closely, we don't that Clinton does not have a chance to win unless all the super delegates suddenly changed their minds and voted her as the nominee.

Bahama for Obama – The next President of the United States of America

Hemlock   May 6th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Further evidence that nothing is going to change. The few remaining adults at the DNC (that doesn't include Dean) better get working on a solution or the Convention will be something to behold.

B. Hughes   May 6th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

After hearing how Hilary's supporters will vote if Obama wins, I've changed my mind about how I will vote if Hilary wins. I'd like to be just as obstructionist in my disappointment as her supporters. Thus, I will vote against her and I'll also try to get Black voters to change from the Democratic party so that our support isn't discounted as expected. I don't know if it would be as independents or as Republicans, but I will begin to work on it immediately after the outcome.

bevie   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Sheanne, I remember when the conservatives said that they would not support John McCain. You can't believe what people say. They change just like the polls.

Rene in PA   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Well, I'm listening to Hillary's speech right now... Sounds to me like a bunch of Charlie Brown's mom... "Wha-wa-wa... wha... wha..."

Dear lord help me (and I'm an atheist) but this woman's voice makes me nuts.

Bet she is still incapable of simple math, even after this trouncing.

Joe   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

People who are still with Hillary at this point are not very bright. Mathematically, she is just about eliminated. She is too busy with CNN trying to spin the facts. She is down too much, too late. I will not ever vote for her. She has been caught in lies numerous times during this campaign. Lies directly to the public. She is part of an active fraud investigation against her and Bill. CNN seems to ignore this all as if it doesn't exist. The republicans would rip her a new one. She is such an easy target, it is not even funny. Obama has been polite. McCain would not show her the same coutesy.

She is 100% unelectable. Maybe Nancy Reagan would like to run next.

Melanie, Texas   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

For all the Clinton supporters who say they won't back Obama, ummm, who cares? There will be more intelligent Republicans who will, believe me. :) Vote against your own interests. We'll still take care of you. :) Because democrats and honest folks take care of the weak and downtrodden. That's what it's all about.

JOJO   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Anyone else notice how in Hillary's speech she is stealing all of Obama's talking points & rhetorical techniques?

JC   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

If Al Gore and John Edwards cannot or do not take their stands, they don't have what it takes to be a leader.

A leader leads, not follows. Governor Richardson took the lead far ahead of you two. John Kerry is another leader, who endorsed Obama early on.

marcelo   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I can't believe it. I'm listening to Hillary's Indiana speech and I hear her people chanting "Yes, we will" (a clear rip-off of the Obama campaign's "Yes we can"). Her message is paraphrased from Obama's earlier speech and she's trying to blame the entire Michigan and Florida mess on Obama rather than admitting that she agreed to the DNC rules in August 2007, saying on video in December 2007 that she agreed that neither race would be awarded delegates. But conveniently, she forgot to remove herself from the ballots, when Sen. Obama, Edwards and other candidates removed themselves from the Michigan and Florida Ballots.

I'm soooo dissappointed in her. I REALLY do want to vote for a democratic candidate in the General Election, but she makes it sooo hard to get over her dishonest character.

And now she's ripping off the theme of his whole NC speech... awesome... She'll probably claim that he plagerized her tomorrow... and claim that he's an elitist for going first.

God, please give me patience.

Linda   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

One thing is true: Hillary believes in her own spin.
She is giving her speech right now. Indiana is close to call, but she has the indecency to claim it!!!

Sean   May 6th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

This is your new politics? One district trying to delay announcement of Hillary's victory to make it seem like it is closer than it is.Read the map and wake up! Every surrounding district has been won by a 2-1 margin.Just trying to deceive people into thinking it is too close to call.

New Politics?! Same playbook, same page, as Bush in West Palm Beach,2000!

mike   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

It's over. For the good of the party, Hillary should step down. But, she won't. In the end, this is a competition with rules, and Hillary is losing fair and square. All the spin in the world won't change that. The Dems need to settle this and the unite against McCain.

Anonymous   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

MB. Hillary is gone. I agree with you. I love this country that does not like the Clinton s to bring back scandals in the WH. Good buy HIllary.

joe   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

jack in Louisville, KY   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

What do you all think the conversation was like back-stage before Hillary was introduced tonight? I hope to God that she came out too early. She continues her presumptuous attitude and I don't like it?

Eugene   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Peace, brothers and sisters. Things are becoming clearer.

Norman   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Sheanne–

I completely agree that with Clinton's negative campaigning and her self-martyrdom that has led so many people to believe that Obama represents centuries of female repression, Obama is going to have an uphill battle. Both candidates would though, for I don't know an Obama supporter anymore that would cast their vote for Clinton.

Here is something to think about though, if you are a really voting with a feminist chip on your shoulder: John Paul Stevens in well into is 80's and probably won't last in the Supreme Court through the next presidential term without retiring. Now, McCain isn't very conservative on many issues, but one that he is is abortion. A McCain victory could very well mean a new conservative justice and the overturn of Roe v Wade. Food for thought.

d   May 6th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Obviously Hillary STILL does not get it! The best she can come up with in her speech is that she has won Indiana, which she has NOT won yet, and secondly, can you send me more of those hard earned dollars to a losing cause campaign. Hillary, should they be sending you the $30 they will save from the gas tax holiday.
It IS over Hillary, the Clinton machine is done.
The popular vote has spoken. Obama is up 200,000 votes in NC.
She is only ahead by 40,000 votes in Indiana. DO the math, the voters have spoken Hillary. Listen to them, you are done!

Sarah   May 6th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

This woman is completely delusional. The race has not even been called. Enough, go away. OBAMA 08'

Chuck, Oregonians for Obama   May 6th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

One very important thing that the Clinton team forgets is simply this. Although in the past a state may have voted Republican, that does not completely rule out that state come this year. They could just as easily vote Democrat this year. You just never know. Americans are upset with the way Republicans have handeled the past 8 years. This is very true by the numbers of new Democrat Voters this year; so dont be so quick to say they are blue or red or any color. This is America and Americans are for the first time in many years finding their voice and making it heard.

Laura   May 6th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

What makes the Obama supporters think that Clinton's supporters will support him? Never in a million years would I vote for Barack Obama. In fact I will vote Republican for the first time in my life.

Doug, Florida   May 6th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Please you all go to HillaryClinton.com and donate some money so she can paid off her debts and drop out the race.

All she is running for now is to raise money to paid off debts.

Obama 08

Charles   May 6th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I don't get why people don't see the ultimate outcome. There is no way she can catch up in pretty much any category. Count Florida and Michigan as is (which is in no way democratic) and she's still behind. Do you really think the supers are going to go completely against the will of the popular vote and the delegate count? Quit fooling yourselves. She stays in because it's her right to do so. But at some point, the rest of America needs to realize this is a done deal.
And I've said before, if McCain wins in November, it's not the fault of Obama supporters or the GOP. It's fools who held a grudge because their anointed champion fell that will be the reason McCain has a chance.

bill   May 6th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I lost respect for the Clinton's a result of this campaign. I think the people of North Carolina and Indiana have seen through the pandering and mud slinging. The gas tax hoax was busted. Desperation is a very poor quality for a President. Pander and stretch the truth now and you will do it later. Look at the Bush years, painful and disappointing to his supporters i am sure. Please think before you vote again.

For those Hillary supporters who won't vote for Obama but expect Obama supporters to do so if she "wins" the nomination at the convention, the entrance to the GOP's "big tent" is over there.

James Y in Saipan   May 6th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Who cares if Obama doesn't win the general election, though to the contrary I am confident he would, but the bottom line is he is winning the democratic party's primary. Since when did any of you ever saw a black man come this far? HOORAY to Barrack Obama. You are one of a kind and keep on moving brodda.... Keep on and write the new chapter of this nation's history. You are the next president of good ole USA.

the differnce between cliton and obama is she charges for her rallies and he doenst,, he gets funds from donations from simple people,, she has bill turn over his funds he raises for her campaign.. and she would do this if shes elected, so is this what you want from a president? i dont,, shes a fraud and so is her family,,, They wouldnt know how to tell the truth if it slapped them in the face,,,,,, but it doesnt matter cos obama will win,, honesty pays out in the end,,,go obama!!!!!

Did anyone notice that Hillary's speech in IN, seems like a rewrite of the earlier given Obama speech in NC?

drew   May 6th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

She's going to ask for money in the first line of her speech.

Panderer!

She is delusional. DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN part 2? She hasn't even won Indiana yet and is claiming the WHITEHOUSE?

And why is it "Yes SHE can" and Obama's says "Yes WE can".

This tells you allot about this woman.

I once supported her. But some of my good friends are at Dover Air Force base in body bags. For a war she authorized after not reading the inteligence report.

She is still supporting a "gas tax" holiday that will cost the US $10 Billion in lost highway taxes and for what, a half a tank of gas?

This is irresponsible. She voted against gas efficency regulation because she takes money from oil lobbiests.

She has lost credibility, and lost the nomination.

Yasriel   May 6th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Boy! Clinton sounded down beat in her speech! What a blowout from NC.
HRC does sound like a loser.

Bill   May 6th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

So if more Clinton Suppoters would vote for McCain over Obama than Obama supporters would vote for Clinton, only two conclusions can be raised. Not only are Obama supporters true Democrats, but the Clinton supporters are more racist than the Obama supporter are sexist. I hate to agree with Limbaugh on anything, but I think he's right this division and Clinton refusing to do what is best for the party is taking a landslide Democratic victory in November and giving the Republicans a chance. If the democratic nominee loses to McCain (a three time loser), then we can only blame Hillary

Nancy from MA   May 6th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Lake County in Indiana should be suspended from all voting in the future.

They are a pathetic county, who should not be counted.

The Lake County votes should be investigated, because this area is known for their back room politics and make up votes. I am sure they used the hours they had to make up absentee ballots for Obama. They compared the lists of people who did not show up to vote and made up an absentee ballot for those people. If your candidate cannot win on his own, then he should not be our President. NO MORE CROOKED ELECTIONS!

There is no excuse for their actions and it is disgusting to have had to wait for their pidley votes.

Hillary Clinton better win this nomination or I am not voting at all. That includes 20 family members as well.

Obama 2008!!!   May 6th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Peter T   May 6th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

> The only way to unite the Democratic party will be an Obama/Clinton ticket and I know Obama will never let that happen.

Why not? The only constitutional power the VP has while being VP is breaking a tie in the senate. Ask Al Gore if he felt powerful during the Bil/Hillary terms? That, on the other hand, could be a reason for Hillary not to seek second place behind Obama.

Buck   May 6th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I've heard the Clinton campaign people talk about how Hillary carries the "rural under-educated" counties and how Obama carries the college educated crowd. I live in Indiana and I can tell if Hillary is fooling the "under-educated rural" counties it means very little. It means that she was able to fool the people that she was trying to fool, Obama's supporters are just a little too smart to fall for all the BS that the Clinton camp keeps putting out. Taking advantage of someone that's RETARED isn't a great skill it just means you aren't as retarded as they are.GO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam   May 6th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

HA.. I find it funny that Obama narrows a 30 point lead in PA to 9 points and it wasn't a big deal, but when Obama wins NC by only 14-16 instead of 25 Hillary did a great thing. Hillary has been up in the polls in Indiana recently and Obama has it tight... SHE CAN NOT WIN. The numbers don't lie... going on is just hurting the party.

Don, Birmingham, Alabama   May 6th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

"Here we go full speed to the White House" Has she completely lost touch with realtiy. She might not even win Indiana tonight. If she steals this with back door convention tricks, does she really think she will get the necessary African American support in November?

Educated White Man for Obama   May 6th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Watching the spin now!

I wish everyone could be respectful of opposing views during this critical point in the primaries. I am confident Obama will win, but will support the Democratic nominee no matter who it is. Please, fellow Democrats – let's not be hostile towards one another. Let's focus that energy on defeating the Republican machine that has controlled and damaged our country here at home and in the eyes of nations around the world. We must unite!

bevie   May 6th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Laney just said on Anderson Cooper that the Clinton Campaign wanted Senator Obama's Campaign to help raise money to re-do the Michigan and Florida Elections. How in the world can she expect to raise money to re-do the election when she can't even run enough money to finance her own campaign. That's rediculous.

And..........her excetance speech sounds just like Senator Obama's!

Tony   May 6th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Super delegates, it's now up to you before the party is further divided. If you care about the party. Please end this now.

Martin   May 6th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I'm not sure why this thing not being a game changer is important: with the remaining number of primaries a big-margin victory in each of those primaries is of an extreme importance to Hillary, so it was the game changer in a way that it says loud and clear "Hillary, stop pretending that you can win."

Jeff   May 6th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

For a Democrat to win in November, they have to win all the states JK did in 2004...plus Ohio. Gloat all you like, Obama-ites, but Ohio already spoke, and Ohio said it didn't like him. The GOP could run a talking purple duck smoking a Cuban cigar dancing the conga against him–he still won't get THE state in the fall. Enjoy your night, because you earned it....you won't get a night like this come the general.

Peter T   May 6th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Obama didn't stumble today, but that was what Clinton needed. Math is overwhelmingly against her now, and she isn't stupid, so what is her goal now? Being candidate for vice president? She has many delegates at the convention, and Obama couldn't deny her this wish, because he needs her voters in November. Or does she want Obama to loose in November to keep her chance in 2012?

mitchell   May 6th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Dave in Ohio   May 6th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

It's ridiculous for the Clinton camp to argue that Michigan and Florida should be seated when the Democratic candidates for President agreed at the beginning that the primaries wouldn't count. Obama wasn't even on the ballot in Michigan. You dont' change the rules at the end of the game because you don't like the result. I hope the superdelegates will now act and end this farce.

Sheanne   May 6th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I'd say it's over. Obama will take the nomination, but he won't take the general election.

Various polls (including the exit polls) showed that 50% of Clinton's supporters will NOT back Obama and switch vote for McCain.

He will never be able to win them over and I wouldn't be surprised if we see her name under Independant on the Nov. ballot.

The only way to unite the Democratic party will be an Obama/Clinton ticket and I know Obama will never let that happen.

Vote Obama

Luke   May 6th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Hillary won Indiana......remember the "tiebreaker", words from Obama himself (well maybe Deval Patricks words first....I feel that is still a problem).

andrew illi   May 6th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I was reading one of the blogs, and one person stated that when Bill Clinton was President, he Invited Rev. Wright to the White House and also attended His Church, is that True?

Kim   May 6th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Obama is an elitist. All regular Americans would know not to make a speach during the 100th episode of Dancing With the Stars. ABC Asheville removed the show for the speach – he lost my Mom's vote.

After All This Drama   May 6th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

She had a 12 point lead in Indiana and its to close to call and said she would win N.C. It would be a game changer! There is a game changer; its the way Obama handles adversity and still comes out on top. THATS PRESIDENTIAL!!!

Willy   May 6th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Either way you look at it a liberal won in both states.

Dear Pam   May 6th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Do you think Obama can beat McCain?

deb813   May 6th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Why are you talking about this woman like she can still steal this nomination? Unbelievable.

Jeff   May 6th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Can't CNN find less off-putting Obama flacks?

CNN for Republicans?   May 6th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I wonder if CNN will give Obama this much attention if he wins the nomination and runs against McCain?

The panel tonight is all for Obama, and 1 for Clinton. Geez guys, your so obvious...

Puddytat   May 6th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

GO NADER !

Tim, Seattle   May 6th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Hey, did you see rabid clinton supporter Lanny Davis get reduced to a whining and crying puddle of jello on CNN? HILARIOUS!
Lanny is having a bad night....he he he
what a stooge...

Dr. J   May 6th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Let's united behind Obama. He is who the people want.

Susan, PA   May 6th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

What a great night!

Aside from all of the obvious great news, I have another prediction:

Tonight may be the last night we ever have to see Lanny Davis. Hillary Clinton was irritating enough, but this man is like chewing foil.

Got Hope?

Sue in MI   May 6th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Hillary is still there, and she is not going away! She pared down a 25% deficit in NC to half, and is holding Indiana, his neighboring state. Keep fighting, girl! When they finally give you the votes you earned in FL and MI, you are our nominee. Then we can heal the rifts, put Barack on the ticket, and win Nov. in a landslide!

Texas   May 6th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Hell no; what makes you think Obama supporters will support Hillary. If she were a decent person of semi-respectable morals, it would be a no-brainer. But, she is despicable. Your data is incorrect. We cannot support a lying, cheating, dishonest, vindictive scum bag.

Jack in ND   May 6th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

North Carolina's popular vote margin erased the gains in Pennsylvania. It's back to where it was on April 21.

The popular vote argument, such as it was, is out the window.

Now they're going to scream even more bloody murder about Michigan and Florida.

And it's already been announced that those two states won't be permitted to change the result.

Spin that!

bern   May 6th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

The only spin is see is from CNN. Why don't you guys stop bolstering Hillary? It is over. Period. She lost. She will not be the nominee. She had her rear end kicked in North Carolina. Go home Hillary and take the racist neocons pretending to be democrats with you.

Pam   May 6th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Stick a fork in Hillary, she's done.
