From

(CNN) – How did Obama do it? His overwhelming support among black voters in North Carolina certainly gave him a major edge – although only one in three primary voters Tuesday night fell into that demographic.

But Obama won every age group except voters 60 and older – by more than 35 points among those younger than 45. And Clinton’s edge with seniors – she won voters 60 and older 54 to 43 percent – wasn’t high enough to compensate.

And remember that voter registration? Obama won those first-time voters, 62 to 28 percent. The results among first-time primary voters – a group that includes Independents and Republicans weighing in for the first time in a Democratic contest – show the party’s fears of GOP mischief seem to have been off the mark: that group supported Obama by an even greater margin, 68 to 26 percent.

Thanh   May 6th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

In summary this is how Obama won NC.

He split the white vote, and won nearly all of the black vote. I'm sorry, but he's not going to win the national election.

There are a lot more white republicans and moderates that will overshadow the whites voting for Obama.

Black people are only 21% of this country's population and they are clustered and concentrated into a few cities across the nation. The same things goes for college students and young professionals. Most of them crowd into big cities like San Francisco, Atlanta, etc.

The Facebook popularity is just an illusion. A huge chunk of them aren't even American citizens yet.

Also, I can see 20%+ of Clinton's constituency going to McCain. People who think Obama can beat McCain by a landslide are dreaming.

Kees   May 6th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Democrats, it's time to move on and vote for our nominee.

If Mrs. Clinton's supporters are Democrats, they should vote for the Democrat. If they are Republican, they should vote for the Republican nominee.

But this talk of switching to vote for the opposition is starting to sound cult-like.

GO OBAMA   May 6th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

A dream that an eloquent man dreamnt a long time ago seems to be nearing fulfillment. This is the change we need to show the world that we are not divided in racial groups. It is time for us to show that we will elect the most qualified person regardless of race, color, or gender. It is time for change and I see it coming, I can smell it. Now the time has come for Hillary to accept defeat and support Obama. This is her chance to prove that she cares for the democratic party and move forward to get a democrat in the white house. McCain has already pledged to appoint conservatives to the supreme court. We cannot let that happen. If the Clintons want to maintain their dignitary position in the democratic party then they have to give in NOW.

Anonymous   May 6th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Barack Obama is not suitable or qualified to be president!!! HE IS A ELITIST AND MAYBE A RACIST, A PERSON WHO HAS SHOWN VERY POOR JUDGEMENT IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE.

SYLVIA ASHEVILLE   May 6th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Obama won N C because of all the zillions of blacks in N C, Now has he created a racial divide or what??????

BLINDMAN   May 6th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

I want all you democrats that are saying that they will not vote for the other person if there choice does not win. I want you to take into consideration that I would not be to worry about a McCain winning the general election as I would about who is his vice president. For the simple fact of his age, and I know that his mother is 90 something but I have heard that his father died in his 60's. So if his dies while in office you will find yourself with a person that is going to be more like Bush then even McCain. Because he will have to choose a very conservative person to try and get the far rigth to vote for him, so all you democratic voters out there be very carefull of what you do and how it will affect this country when you vote this November.
A blindman always sees what a normal person cannot with thier eyes

Doubting Thomas   May 6th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Certainly Senator Obama got the vast majority of the African American vote. For those of you who say that's how he won then please read the exit polls for North Carolina. I am neither black, elistist or liberal and I am supporting Senator Obama. What you need to start doing is ask yourself if you are a disgruntled Clinton supporter…Am I REALLY capable of voting for John McCain. Forget all the months of rabid fighting and the verbal sewage traded back and forth between camps. Are you truly going to vote for a republican out of spite and subject us to yet another hellish 4 years of republican rule. I honestly hope when it comes down to the all important choice that we can put away all the scar of the primary and come together in the end.

It is time for a change.

Roy In NC   May 6th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

It's still early, but Obama looks primed for a BIG win in North Carolina, quite possibly 20 points or more. He's taking Mecklenburg and Guilford with over 70%, he's taking the white college-educated areas like Orange county by about a similar margin, and even in some of the rural eastern counties like Johnston and Harnett, it's nearly even or only 1-3 point lead for Clinton. The only place Hillary's winning by a wide margin is up in the sparsely-populated mountain counties like Ashe and Alleghany.

One of the really big deals is that he's taking Cumberland County (Fayetteville and Fort Bragg) 73-25 right now. There's a sizeable black population in Fayetteville, but also a sizeable blue-collar white population and a sizeable military population. He's definitely made some inroads with those demographics to be getting numbers like that.

Obama 08:white, female and 60   May 6th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

Good ole Rush is bragging about how his "operation chaos" has worked…superdelegates are going to have to look closely at any "win" by Clinton in Indiana.

Too bad Schneider didn't have an exit poll for the number of Repulicans who voted for Clinton who have no intention of voting for her even if she were the nominee.

I remember Clinton whining in other contests that were open and now she is cosying up to Fox News!!

The black population in NC is only about 26%. Compare that to 85% white population in Indiana and Pennsylvania. Do you see Obama crying race, race, race, because Hillary won Pennsylvania?

Get over the race issue. There were more white population who voted for Obama in NC than black.

92% of the black vote. typical. Obama is going to become the dem presidential candidate not based on experience, of which he has none, but on the basis of 90%+ black vote in every primary & caucus. It's not even a fair fight.

The Corp   May 6th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

It's simple - the majority of blacks will only vote black, while progressive whites can actually vote across race lines. This of course will be the downfall of white society as we know it. NoBama - stupid, platitude spewing, militant.

CNN should stop saying that Hillary lost the Blacks support. Instead, they should call it as it is: reverse racism against Hillary which will not hold up during the general election. Non-Black people still outnumber the Black people in America.

That's starting to look like what Republicans would like to see. While something like 80% of Obama supporters said they would vote for Sen. Clinton against McCain, only 45% of Clinton supporters would vote for Obama against Sen. McCain. Sounds to me like the Republicans may benefit for from an Obama vs. McCain match-up.

A Proud Supporter of Hillary.

I don't see any point for Sen Clinton to keep going. She is a typical lawyer who wants to bend the rules to win or show some political clout when she has nothing or less than her opponent. Maybe now Hillary will finally move aside for the good of the American people. Even though there are still some who say she can still make a case for her being the nominee, based on she's the only who can win the Presidency.
Let's cut the bull. If that's the case shouldn't she currently have the most votes for now? Maybe they will magically appear after shes becomes the nominee?

Congratulation Obama!

AA   May 6th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

I am so disgusted by this race. Black people only think about their black power. What do they know about the issues. The media needs to seriously examined this race divide in this election. Don't you see the problem of 91% black votes? They vote as a block, can black people think independently? I guess not..

K   May 6th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

How come when a white person doesn't vote for Obama, he/she is racist? But when a black people vote almost 100%, that is not racist. You can't get rid of racism with reverse racism. It only divides.

Cynthia Hilton-Wade   May 6th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

When I hear people in this day in age say that they will change party to Republican party is not only ignorant, but it really shows Hillary's divisive campaign. Now I truly wonder how is she gonna clean up her mess.
She banked on sutle racism and what has is it gotten her?
Man that is great so, what happens now she is still behind. She wanted Barack to go home if he lost both states, and she thought her win in Indiana was going to be a double digit win. I say it loud and proudly….GO HOME HILLARY!

John in CA   May 6th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Why didn't CNN allow comment on the Racial Divide exit poll?

90+% of the blacks voted for Obama. Talk about true racism in America that's alive and well. Don't give me that BS that they're all voting for Obama because they see the light. Maybe we should just turn out the light and vote in the dark so skin color will no longer an issue.

InspireThis   May 6th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Hillary does not need to quit. She has the right to keep fighting just as Obama does. Let them take this all the way to the end.
At this rate McCain is a shoe-in for the White House.

Marie in California   May 6th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Let's do the math. Obama always wins at least 90% of the black vote (and who says race doesn't matter in this race? Wrong!). With a third of NC Democratic voters being black, that automatically gives him about 30% of the overall Democratic vote to begin with.

Of the remaining 67% of voters, who are non-black, he only has to carry about a third of them to come out with around 55% of the overall NC vote, and a whole lot of those will be students and young people. The other two thirds will vote for Clinton.

Heavily skewed, wouldn't you say? Given that, in a general election against Republicans with EVERYONE voting, Obama will be sunk.

Duhhh……

John San Francisco   May 6th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

As I stated in my last Blog in the Cafferty Report, this is my final Blog.

I have prepared this Blog for the Democratic Party. We must cease our bickering and divisive politics of pulling down our 2 great Democratic Candidates. I present to the Great People of America

“United We Stand”

May 6th 2008 is this country, the United States of America historical date in History.

On this day, the 2 most qualified Democratic front runners Ms. Hillary Rodam Clinton and Mr. Barak Obama has ended what will be considered by most Political Historians, the most exciting Political Campaigns exhibited in the history of the United States of America.

Today we set aside our differences and come together for a higher purpose. On this day, what is required and is at this most urgent time in the history of the United States of America,
Is for every Man, every Woman, every National Group, White American, African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Native American, and Americans of all National Backgrounds.
This day is the day that we reclaim our true course in history to restore this great country to the calling for which its very existence came to be, Yes, to day is our day, All Democrats, All Republicans, All Independents, All who love this great country, today we come together and pronounce this country mantra, “United We Stand”

Yes, United We Stand. This great country of ours can not afford to delay another day, another hour, nor another moment of division of National Groups that make up this great Nation.

Today, the Democratic Party has chosen to move forward with our task to bring this country together to fight the fight of faith.

This fight of faith will require for all Americans to put aside their personal fears and personal difference.
Yes this fight of faith that we as a Nation is called to at this very moment of time, a time where this great country, the United States of America may be on the brink of dissolution. Yes, this day is a day that we, the citizens of this great country that has from the time of its existence has cried out for Freedom.

Today, that very declaration of Freedom is at risk for each and every American.
As we move into a Globalization of a global economy where we must as Americans compete to stay on the World scene as the leaders of a Free World, we must on this day say loud, say proudly “United We Stand”.

Today, we the Democratic Party must reach out to our brothers and sisters of the Republican Party and reconcile our partisanship that has been the wall of division that has hindered the progress of this great country.

Our fight is not with each American that holds claim to the proclamation of our great forefathers, who with vision foreseen the need of a Constitution of Independence to guide this great country during times of peace, but at best during times trials, that at worst threatens the very existence of this great country the United States of America.

We must now stand behind our Democratic Nominee and move forward to take our place in History. Yes we face the uncertainty of tomorrow. We have an Economy that has left thousands unemployed and unable to provide the basics of daily needs to our families. We are in the middle of 2 Wars that has cost this country Trillions of dollars that should have gone to the greater good of the citizens of this great country. As a result of our division among Political Parties and National Groups have resulted in thousands of American job be shipped out overseas to other countries. Our children are last in all fields of Academics.

Who will come to our sides at this time of urgency? A time, where in the next 12 months, China will proclaim to be the New Primer World Power.

Are we to be left behind after over 200 years of embracing the God given rights of Freedom for All men, all women, and all children of this great country?

As a Democrat, today I proclaim my Independence; I declare our right to continue to exist as a free country, a country that we all have given our love in devotion to.

Today I ask each American to take a stand today for the very future of our existence depends upon one basic principle “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”

God Bless America.

See all my fellow Americans at the polls in November

Linda in CA   May 6th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Too bad it is the under educated men and women voting for Clinton because she is a woman, or because she makes promises regarding fuel tax relief which she cannot make happen. If they could read and understand the issues, this circus with her would not be happening. A lot of Hillary sheep cannot even spell correctly, as indicated by their responses in these comments. She certainly pulled the wool over their eyes. And yes, I only have a high school education and I am a white 59 year old Catholic , blue collar worker originally from the rural midwest.

Obama should say thank god for the black vote. If the black vote had not been so one-sided, he would not be winning. I suppose we cannot call this racial because its the black people doing it and so it makes it right. The black voter only wants to vote for the black man. Tell me where is the unity there. There is more division than anything. You black voters had better hope that he going to look out for you if he is the democrat nominee seeing that you all are voting blindly.

Mel   May 6th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Obama Took the high road, because he knows that together we are strong, but devided we will all go down when our turn comes. Some folks
will throw their friends and those who helped them when they needed the help, under the bus. If they do that to those who helped them, I would not
like such persons to represent me, because when no one is looking, they
will do the same to the average American.

Sounds like NC should have had voter photo ID. Looks like when you are the 'precious' of the news media, you can do anything. Even have terrorist friends. Its mathemathically impossible for Hillary to win the nomination, yet she'll win Indiana but a few points and talk about how the country should get there voice heard. Lou Dobbs is so politically biased it's not funny. He lacks credibility. When someone answers one of his stupid questions in a way that's not to his liking, he immediately jumps in and cuts them off. Can you say shallow? This guy is a joke. Put Cafferty on in his place. He doesn't call a spade a spade, he calls it a @##$%$%^^& shovel! Let's hear from Jack

anna   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Obama is still significantly behind in the Election that counts…
November.

Win a battle yet lose the war?
not good.

Independent99999   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Obama will walk away the night with more delegates than Hillary. That is the bottomline. After 2 or 3 roughest weeks, he comes out of top on what matters the most - DELEGATE COUNT.

Tomorrow, we should see a rush from SUPER DELEGATES to Obama.

Kiah   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

YES WE WILL!

Sydney   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Obama put the hammer down in N.C. ,and won it. There goes the Clinton "big state" argument. Bottom line, Obama did it and he did with people laughing in his face. Obama is the man.

Give me a break, this guy will NEVER win in the general election. He is a joke. Obama is not going to be good for the country.

Wesley   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

There's 50 states count em. Not 48 that had primaries. Excluding
U.S. Territories. I doubt Obama would have faired well in either.
Sure you may say yes to Obama now, but it's President McCain.

Irish Gram   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

For all those Obama voters, Congratulation. You just voted for a Marxist and a terrorist promoter. The terrorist organizations love Obama too.

Yahooooooo!

Congrats, Obama!!!!

Yahoo! I'm excited - and I'm a 60+ Republican woman who voted for Obama in the Virginia Primary. Hopefully, there's more older, educated women coming around to see the light!! Congrats to all you smart NC voters!

Strong character, integrity and patience wins it all. Am I the only one that thinks "It wont really matter if Hilliary wins Indiana because it will only be by a small margin and the delegates will be shared according to the percentage? Hilliary, Rocky is getting knocked out slowly. We appreciate
you for strengthening OBAMA.

Silver Fox   May 6th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

Congratulations Obama and his supporters. In November, McCain will in the state of North Carolina.

bubbasforobama   May 6th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

His numbers would have been higher if the Clinton surrogates "Women Voting" had not tried to suppress the vote.
Nasty nasty. She'll run the counrty like she ran her campaign:

ditry tricks, no respect for rule of law,
false promises, and out of money

This bubba sees through the BS!

Lets go bubbas, for Obama!

Dennis   May 6th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Thank goodness…

Unfortunately, Hillary will keep on going and spin how Indiana was more important.

To all you Hillary supporters that are thinking of voting for McCain, just think of all those conservative judges you'll be putting in the supreme court.

Time to mend, Democrats!

Barb   May 6th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Obama won North Carolina because he is black, which does not prove he is the right one to be president.

I think we gotta get together and join forces. Clinton-Obama ticket. Obama's primary wins are traditionally Republican states. Clinton primary wins are traditionally Democratic states. We need Clinton and Obama standing together.

Lola   May 6th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Gee, Obama won the Republican vote in the primary. And what happens to that vote in the general election? It whips right back over to McCain. He should be thrilled.

David   May 6th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

that should tell you CNN biased journalists something
we want him to win,no matter how you spin the rev wright issue
talk abt hillary's lies,or her plans to ignore 200 economists,or her plan to cause the 3rd world war.

mike   May 6th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Hillary couldn't afford to lose NC by this large a margin.
If she kept it close, she could try to keep going.
Don't see how she can possibly catch up at this point.
Funny watching her supporters and the republican surrogates try to deny this on TV right now.

Lilarose in Oregon   May 6th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Beware! Beware! Beware!

Obama will win the Democratic nomination.

John McCain will win the presidency.

No one, NO ONE, is listening to a large group of voters who can change this contest in the general election.

They are Democrats like me, including many older women, who will NOT vote for Obama because they don't feel he has any experience drawn from any part of his life to be a president. He will be eaten alive in foreign policy issues.

I am voting for Hillary Clinton here in Oregon. But I will not vote for Obama.

We need experience.

Irish Gram   May 6th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

At this very minutes only 1% of the votes are in in NC and you are saying OBAMA the winner. Don't you have the cart before the horse. At least half the votes should be in before declaring a winner. Sure can tell bias when I see it.

Just as the Supreme Court gave the Presidential election to Bush, the main stream media is giving this election to Obama. The compete trashing of Hillary Clinton in favor of a Marxist is over the top.

rachel   May 6th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

People crack me up, early on its oh Obama has appeal republicans will vote for him, now that they really arent people have sour grapes.

Denise H-Town   May 6th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

I wish this could all be over VERY SOON! This party needs to heal and come together. All of these numbers that are coming out, that if there person does not win the nomination they will vote GOP. That shows that this party is coming unglued. I'm not a Hillary supporter by any means, one huge reason is because I strongly belive that two families should not dominate the white house and it will be more of the same. With that said I would not cross over my vote and any one that cares about the well being of this country should remember the bigger picture.

Gooo Indiana.
Cnn says Obama doesn't need blue collar workers. We will see.

Dave in MD   May 6th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Truth goes along way. He has it. No harm intended to the African-Americans, but us white folks love Obama too. Don't count our vote out! We are all playing apart in this. He's bringing this country together. I love it. The way of true Americans.

Tammy   May 6th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

I do not regret my vote for Hillary. In fact, you can count me in as one that will be considering McCain if Obama is the nominee. Um, ever stop to think that the GOP is supporting Obama because they know they can beat him! It´s not rocket science people. Come on.

Dave   May 6th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

IF OBAMA WINS 57% IN NORTH CAROLINA IT WILL TOTALLY WIPE OUT CLINTON'S WIN IN PENNSYLVANIA!

Dave from

John Beatrice   May 6th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

Obama was able to do this despite the very unfair media treatment. This guy is destined to be the president. We're witnessing something beyond us.

Hillary has alienated too many with her gimmicks and old politics.

Republicans get ready!!!!!!

Rick in Oregon   May 6th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

So, should we now say that the republicans are voting for Obama because they know that they can beat him? I love it when the tables get turned on people and they have to eat their own words.

I mean, all you Obama supporters kept saying how Hillary wins because of "operation chaos". So now when this story says that republicans are voting for Obama, does it spin the other way?

I didn't think so. Talk about your silly season….

GO OBAMA

Dr. J   May 6th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

It's time for change.

Obama 08

D   May 6th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Obama wins NC based on the white vote. The black vote does NOT make up the majority of voters in North Carolina! That being said, Hillary should have never decided to ignore the black vote. If she had made inroads into the black community voting block, she would not be in the position she finds herself in now. She has no one to blame but herself.

Go Obama!!

Jane   May 6th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Obama onward and upward for real change in this country.

Obama '08

Kari Starnes   May 6th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

As a life long Indiana resident, I can report that except for in small pockets around the state (the same pockets that are now important to Barack Obama), there's been no love for either of the Clintons. So, why is she now winning most of the counties in Indiana? Because in our primaries people from any party are allowed to vote, and I've heard of and know of at least two people (one independent, one republican) that report they voted for Hillary Clinton to keep the Democratic party torn in two, making it easier for the Republicans to keep the White House for four more years. Thought you should know…

Kari Starnes

Terri   May 6th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

EVERYONE IN CALIFORNIA HATES OBAMA, THE OBNOXIOUS BLACK PEOPLE WHO WERE IN HOLLYWOOD IS WHAT MADE HIM LOSE, I THINK THIS IS RIGGED BECAUSE NOT A VOTE HAS BEEN COUNTED AND THEY ARE PROECTING OBAMA AS THE WINNER IN NORTH CAROLINA! I CANT WAIT FOR JOHN MCCAIN TO BE PRESIDENT IF OBAMA IS THE NOMINEE!

Disgusted   May 6th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

Oh no, what will the Clinton News Network do now?

Salaam, Lawrence KS   May 6th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

I wonder what the Clintons' argument to superdelegates will be. Democrats seem to be ready to put an end to the bickering so they can focus on November with Obama.

New Voters   May 6th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

If Clinton steals this primary. The floodgates will open for a 3rd party candidate. There is no way all of these new young voters will go to Clinton. I think it is safe to say that no black Americans will vote for her anymore. More than 90% voted against her.

Amy in Iowa   May 6th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

No game changer for Hillary. She got a real whipping from NC. Indiana allows Republicans to vote. So alot of Operation Chaos going on in Indiana.

Greg   May 6th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

This race is over.

She needed to win both to keep going.

The truth about race   May 6th, 2008 8:02 pm ET

The overwhelming support for Obama (92%+) will alienate moderate (white) democrats who felt the Clintons were abandoned by the black community for a weaker candidate.

The fall will be quite ugly for Obama when his ONLY support comes from African Americans and college students.

cory,fl   May 6th, 2008 8:01 pm ET

only key is the black vote, but it wont help in the general election, they only add up to 12%
