Voters cast their ballots in Indianapolis.

(CNN) — Barack Obama’s troubles with white working class voters continue to cost him dearly at the polls: Hillary Clinton captured the votes of two-thirds of Indiana voters who lack a college degree; the two split the white college-educated vote.

Clinton’s push for the gun vote seems to have paid off: half the state’s Democratic primary voters are gun owners, according to early exit polls, they supported Clinton over Obama, 61 to 39 percent.

Finally! These forums are always closed to comments. Anyhow, It's just interesting that these people who marry their first cousins are the poorest of the poor, yet they would rather see their jobs continue to be shipped overseas while the Execs cash their big checks and stock options. NAFTA, people! Don't you get it? Yes, you do cling to religion and guns…just what Hillary and her Republican friend Rush want! Good job!

JC   May 6th, 2008 9:05 pm ET

We only deserve the candidate we voted for.

Why make up your mind the last minute?
Do some homework before you cast your important vote, or else you can't complain later.

antler   May 6th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Interested in NC: a sizeable proportion of the voters who vote Clinton or will vote McCain have a problem with Obama's color.

LOL. She get's the uneducated people's votes as well.

Karen   May 6th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

For Interested in NC==because their way of debating the issues is to attack the integrity and movtives of the opposition. If you don't agree with them, you must be racist, ignorant, white, or old.

It's the whole American Idol mentality. The media started with the labels of Obama= education and youth. Hillary=racist and ignorant.
Who wants to be labeled with derogatory terms? So, you go with the 'cool kids'.

I'm not a racist. I do, however, think misogyny has played a large role. It comes down to if a woman is tough and outspoken it's just wrong. Well, perhaps Obama might take a page from her book and start showing some backbone.

And yes, some people really will not vote for him in the GE. And most definitely not because of his race. I don't care about that–I do, however, care about character and experience.

"Typical White Woman"   May 6th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

Funny, how the experts call Hillary supporters "un-educated", I think It's the other way around since over half the Obama voters cant even spell or talk right! You people are going to be really sorry when he takes his oath~ But, he will not be there because of me or even half of Hillary's supporters…We know what he is truly about! So, you can "hoop and holla" all you want but in the end, the joke will be on you!

E Hayden   May 6th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

The sad perspective of Mr. Schneider's analysis of the Clinton Voters who won't vote for Obama is that it is a subtle way of saying race is the issue in this election. Essentially, if an Indiana voter doesn't get Clinton to vote for it will be a cold day in Hades if they were to vote for a black person (man or woman) — even if the black person were much more competent. I'm not very proud of this message to the world.

Frederick   May 6th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

A vote for McCain is a vote for another 4 years of Bush. If you are happy with the status quo and the way things are going in this country, then vote for Bush III, ie McCain. But please, dont you DARE complain about how dire things will be 4 years from now. Any democrat who switches to vote for McCain is just plain dumb. Do you stand for your party and what it represents OR do you vote based on personality/skin color? Wake up people. I wonder how many dems secretly voted for Bush in the last election and yet have the gall to complain about the current mess of this country..hmmmm……
dumb presidents get elected from dumb people…….

TC in Ohio   May 6th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

It is so depressing to see Hillary Clinton dismiss the consensus of the great majority of economists who analyzed her summer gasoline tax holiday proposal and concluded that it would only encourage greater consumption of gasoline and, given the relatively fixed supply of gasoline available for the summer, do next to nothing in terms of saving money for consumers. We have had almost eight years of a president who refused to be "confused by the facts" or the analyses of experts. The consequences have been disastrous for the nation. To have Clinton echo the same disregard for expert opinion and expertise, and to do so by characterizing experts as "elites, " the Bush approach, is very worrisome. If any one of us were to need a heart operation, wouldn't we want to go to an expert, indeed, one of the medical elite if we could do so? Why should we make a different choice when it comes to policy analysis?

"the demographic that still holds out for Hillary is the same demographic that is targeted by scam artists, older women…think there might be a coincidence?"

Exit Poll vote by age and race:

White 17-29 = 56% Obama, 42% Clinton
White 30-44 = 43% Obama, 50% Clinton
White 45-59 = 34% Obama, 61% Clinton
White 60 & Older = 29% Obama, 69% Clinton

Black 17-29 = 93% Obama, 3% Clinton
Black 30-44 = 88% Obama, 7% Clinton
Black 45-59 = 94% Obama, 5% Clinton

The black vote accounted for over thirty percent of the votes cast.

I am a Barack Obama supporter and yes I claimed I wouldnt vote for Clinton if she wins by use of the superdelegates
I actually didnt see a differance between any of them beyond MacCain keeping us stuck in Iraq weakened and hater . But after listening to McCain saing he would appoint conservative judges to the Supreme court , my vote goes to the Democrat in general. The issue is bigger than Barack or Hillary.

It's interesting reading all the e-mails. Democrat fighting against Democrat. You must know that this spells doom for the Democrats in the Fall.

You can be sure that many Hillary voters would not vote for Obama and vice versa. This has to play into McCain's hands.

From Australia it really looks like this has been caused by Clinton's 'win at all costs' attitude. It will bring down the Democrats. You will have to wait till 2012 for another shot I feel.

Brenda from TN.   May 6th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

I,m just one of those STUPID UN-EDUCATED PEOPLE ,but ; for the life of me I can,t understand , how Obama can get 91% of the black vote in NC and be told that there is only 12% in the country…..are you saying all the black voters are in NC, GA,SC ,ETC everytime a primary comes up???? Are you saying they are going state -to-state to vote?????

JD   May 6th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Its not Obama skin that I dislike, it is his lack of experience as a national politician. I would vote for him in 8 years after Hillary. Obama has not proven himself that he can fight for anything, even this primary he doesn't have to fight, Hillary keeps on coming back winning while fighting her past, her present, the media, the republicans and Obama. She is a fighter and she will fight for this country, for health care for ALL americans, not just some. She may be right but it doesn't seem to stop her from raising taxes on the wealthy which means she will pay more. What has Obama done as a senator , not a whole lot.

Hey Scheider

Sen. Obama also won 33% of the white voters in NC. He has also won some 18 or so predominately white states like Maine , Wyoming, and Iowa. Their seems to be a lot of non-racist white voters in this great country. The media paints this as an issue of race , but it is equally about gender.

Go Obama / Edwards 08

The more the media continues to play the RACE CARD in this primary the easier the GOP will win in November!!!
I guess that's the plan after all since Obama will end up getting the nomination for the Democrats.
The GOP will basically say hey our hands are clean the folks voted they way they wanted and once again they would have stolen the election!!!

former democrat   May 6th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

James Winston Rivers, Clinton said that she would support Obama, should he become the nominee, but i doubt if she will be able to convince her supporters to do the same for GE. plain and simple people if she doesn't get 60% + of seniors and women she isn't even in this nomination. yes he is getting 90% of the black vote, but he is also getting 40% + of the white vote, which would be even higher if not for the elderly and women. his base is the broadest and most represents the true democratic party.

CJ in FL   May 6th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

It's amazing how this primary is showing the racism, sexism, and general hatred that is running rampant throughout the Democratic party. And all of these years the 'party of inclusion' pointed to conservatives and Republicans as the hate-mongers. Talk about projection…

B/C we are tired of being broken down into whites with no college education versus blacks (why is there no category for blacks with no college education?) Can we have an open discussion here? I'll never support obama or elite media ever again!

If any of you Clintonistas understood rules, you would realize that when the DNC says "don't move your date up or you will be penalized", that there are going to be consequences if you end up doing what you were told not to do. I wonder how many of you would be clamoring for FL and MI to count if Billary hadn't won them unfairly? Rules are rules, and when you break them, bad things sometimes happen. Even your basic 3-year old gets this concept, so why can't you Clinton supporters manage to grasp it? Makes you wonder….doesn't it?

K   May 6th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Obama's camp said Indiana was tie breaker a few weeks ago. Now that Hillary is winning, Obama campaign says "oh we weren't expected to win Indiana". Uh ok. Spin. Spin.

Karen   May 6th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

If the media had given Obama the scrutiny which they gave Clinton BEFORE the primaries, we would not be having this conversation.

As for the Obama supporters being better-educated, I think you can read the blogs and see that this is not true. Their syntax is confused, grammer is sadly lacking, and spelling atrocious. I love the barbs that are thrown, as well. I believe the words 'Indiana white trash' were used a couple of times today.

I live in Indiana. I have a college degree, I own my own business, and I do quite well financially. I voted for Hillary Clinton.

The media created this mess–along with many young overly-enthusiastic Obama supporters who have looked at this contest as a reality show. Throw insults, back stab, make fun of your oppenent.

Well, it isn't a game. We're tired of being called racist and ignornant. I think when Obama receives more than 90% of the African American vote–that's racist.

What the DNC and the media have forgotten is that we ignorant, white, racist, old people make up a huge sector of the population. That means trouble for Obama.

Of course, it's not my problem. If Hillary bows out, so will her support and that means Obama will lose, as he should. Shame on him for refusing to allow Florida and Michigan votes to count. Shame on the media and the DNC.

For the first time in my adult life, I'm ashamed of my party.

Drew, Central FL   May 6th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

This was no surprise. Why do you people continue to infuse race into this? How is this country going to move forward if the media and politicians alike continue to play the race card? Downright shameless.

Uneducated may not mean stupid, but guess what. An education does expand your mind, your perception and your abilities. You can do more. The less education you have, the less capable you are. It's a very simple fact.

Seems they proved it again. There are a lot of people that can be bamboozled by simple pandering because someone like them told them that they were being looked down on. It's funny how Billary say that about a guy who used to be on food stamps.

Damoo   May 6th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

Hillary has serious issues   May 6th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

Because Hillary, Bill, media, Ickes, and other surrogates have been playing on latent racist fears.

Now, Ickes is pushing the superdelegates based on current polls after attacking Obama relentlessly – that makes her more electable? Making descisions by poll watching is what caused Hillary to LACK the COURAGE to vote against force and the war… what makes poll watching and listening to talking heads like Wolf Blitzer and Bill Schneider it a good descision now? Nothing: Obama will make the more reasoned President.

JD   May 6th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

It is so depressing how we've fallen for the bs peddled by the media. The media destroyed Rev. Wright when all one has to do is to read the comments posted to confirm some of what Wright stated.
Racism is alive and well in good ole boy America. If the majority of blacks vote for a black man some call us the true racists but when white women vote for a white woman they aren't. Explain that to me. When people say that they would rather have baby bush than Obama because he's an elitist and ignorant it lets me know that it's not about those things at all because even my 12 year old understands what igorance and elite is and Obama is neither.

May God have mercy on America is all I can say.

We're so caught up on bashing the candidate we don't support than dealing with the issues that most Americans REALLY care about.

LAS VEGAS — Motorists in Nevada might not see a savings at the pump if Congress approves a gasoline tax holiday touted by two presidential candidates.
A state DOT official said Nevada has a law to increase fuel taxes to offset any drop in the federal tax.
It's designed to ensure funding for construction projects and bond funding.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain and Democrat Hillary Clinton have proposed suspending the 18.4 cents-per-gallon federal tax from Memorial Day to Labor Day to provide relief to motorists facing rising fuel prices.

african americans aren't the majority in America so for Obama must be getting some of the white vote for him to be leading, let's talk about hillary only getting 6% of the black vote in NC, shouldn't that be an issue… i guess not

DEMOCRATS UNITED FOR OBAMA 08

A foreigner in US   May 6th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Giulia, you said that Hillary get uneducated vote? What kind of world are you living in??? How about all the uneducated, and poor blacks that Obama is getting??? Please explain…

Stephanie Soukup   May 6th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

about 3 weeks ago i had a strong feeling accompanied with chills. I saw Obama in the lead un til the very last minute, then Hillary won. then I saw all the people getting angry … Oh how i hope i am wrong. I don't mind who wins because i like both of them. I just don't want to have any trouble start with the people.

Wally   May 6th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

The Problem is very clear, while Obama seems to re-energize Voters, he is losing in every single state that counts in November 2008. I am sure we all remember how Bush won, he won both elections by simply winning the states that counts. It is Winner takes all in November – The Electoral College format. He lost CA. TX, OH, PA and Indiana. Histrocally, nobody has won the White House without winning those states. Can someone please tell me how Obama can win in November when he cannot win the states with the most electoral votes. November is Not about popular votes but about who wins the electoral college. Remember Gore. Hillary has shown time after time that she can win the most important states. The Republicans ignored the black votes and won twice. Obama is counting on that to win. Interesting

V Connors- OH   May 6th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

if any of you Obamaniacs could count. Ialways here Oh!! he has the popular vote. Afraid not!!! count all the people who voted for Clinton in Michigan and Florida. She is ahead by about 200,000 votes. If Obama is chosen as the Democratic nominee without counting Florida and Michigan. I and many others will be voting for McCain or not at all. I grew up and was always told every vote counts. I guess I was taught wrong. It only counts, for those who steal an election. CNN is so bias, they make me sick. No votes are in yet and they give North Carolina to Obama.

martin   May 6th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

HIllary '08 or McCain '08

Ann Romero   May 6th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Mr. Obama will not get my vote. I think CNN is paid by Obama, they love him so much, Obama Obama Obama. The name makes me sick, I will vote for MCCain. I feel so sad that America has allowed Obama to play the race card. So have it!!!!!!!!!!! all the black votes are for Obama, seat back and weep. We are in trouble to have such a liberal President.

Why don't you just say it Hillary is the winner of Indiana!!!!!!!! I am so mad that North Carolina people are so blind about this important matter. I sure it were white male voters that gave him the edge.

Clinton is so much better, wake up Super delgs. don't let him take over the country. Money is behind this man and who is funding him?

This game is so unfair.

Carla Ogburn   May 6th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

I continue to be disappointed with CNN's bias toward Obama. Why call the North Carolina primary when none of the real votes have been counted and not call Indiana for Clinton when clearly she will win that state. CNN has been so unfair to Hillary Clinton throughout this campaign!!!!

HRC...the Bell Tolls for Thee...   May 6th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Wow…I'm shocked…I thought people were color blind.

Interested in NC   May 6th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

"Indiana will almost definitely go Republican in the fall, but I bet she won't allow that argument to be made against her. But way to go, Hillary – keep bringing in the poor, the uneducated and the gun lovers…that's quite the constituency"

Check the last time NC went Democratic in a presidential race. Not recently, and it won't again this year.

linda from South Dakota   May 6th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

JD,, do you know what u said? omg,, you would rather have bush again,, wow,, are u ignorant or what? you enjoy payin 4.00 per gallon for gas? and having your taxes raised beyond reason? wow,,, u sure u live in the USA?

William, from Cali   May 6th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

This is 2008, why are some people still scared of "Black Men," being in control…..How "elitist" is that………Now I'm bitter………

Len   May 6th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Hillary hasn't a prayer.

Only the uneducated would vote for her.

Linda   May 6th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

If OBama gets the nomination…………….I will be voting for a Republican President……………………thanks CNN……..

Jbecks   May 6th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

this country needs more college education.

Sally   May 6th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

That's okay … they wouldn't vote for her in the fall anyway. Even Bill Clinton didn't win a majority of this group … in either election.

Dr. J   May 6th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Well, if that is the case. Shame on racist people. People look at what you are saying. Wow!

Mike in NYC   May 6th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Annie wrote:

"how can they be calling a winner in NC five minutes after the polls close?"

Because it was mathematically impossible for HRC to win in NC.

The media spun the story to make it look like she might win, just to make BO's victory look more impressive.

He'd better hope for more than a single digit margin.

After further review,Texas   May 6th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Guns, beer and pickup trucks is all they need. They dont need jobs, they got the little woman workin at Hillarys Walmart.

Jay   May 6th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

And she will in the General election..who we need to win.

Ann   May 6th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Hillary or McCain. Obama has no chance to win in November.

JD   May 6th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Hillary 08 or Mc Cain 08

Hillary Represents the common person, she connects with everyone. I am a democrat but I will never vote for Obama, if he is the nominee, then McCain has my vote, I would rather have George Bush junior than an ignorant elitist like Obama.

Fonzi, an independent.   May 6th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

Hope this makes Lou Dobbs HAPPY.

Linda   May 6th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

CNN is a disgrace…………………When the polls are showing Clinton the winner…….CNN can't call the election…TOO EARLY……..
2 Seconds after the polls close in Noth Caroline……..OBama is called the winner by CNN…………..give me a break.

Anonymous   May 6th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

Hillary has the most vile, angry supporters I have ever seen. The Clintons strategy to try and destroy Senator Obama seems to have taken with the, undereducated, racist people in Indiana. I hope they know what they are doing to the party and I pray they come to their senses and support OUR nominee Senator Barack Obama!!!
BTW they already called NC for Obama!!!!!

SLO Bear   May 6th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

No more riling the rubes and I mean it! Would anyone like a peanut?

annie   May 6th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

how can they be calling a winner in NC five minutes after the polls close?

Ann, MI   May 6th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

I guess when she stooped so low that she adopted that fake country accent, they felt sorry and voted for her.

Victory for Hillary   May 6th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Obama gets the black vote and elites. That won't win general elections!!

J. Forbes, Texas Independent   May 6th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

And this is exactly why Obama will probably lose to McCain in November.

Dr. J   May 6th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

I wonder if these people are racist? LOL. Obama brings people together.

Mike in NYC   May 6th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Wow, a liberal, anti-racist elitist. Who would have guessed?

"Educated" does not, repeat, does not equal "smart."

The best part is...   May 6th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

…remember when Obama was winning 11 contests in a row, and Clinton dismissed it because she was saying it was states that would definitely go Republican in the fall so they didn't matter?

Indiana will almost definitely go Republican in the fall, but I bet she won't allow that argument to be made against her. But way to go, Hillary – keep bringing in the poor, the uneducated and the gun lovers…that's quite the constituency

Patricia   May 6th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

I'm white, I work, single mom supporting my family paycheck-to-paycheck and I voted for Barrack Obama!!! Oh, maybe because I took three semesters of college 30 years ago makes me 'educated and elitist?"

vic nashville,Tn   May 6th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Hillary 08 or Mc Cain 08

cory,fl   May 6th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

what can obama do during the general election when the black vote is 12% not as big as in the democratic primary

Sharon in Mi..   May 6th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

James   May 6th, 2008 7:32 pm ET
