Clinton loans herself $6.4 million

Clinton has loaned her campaign a total of $11.4 million.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Democrat Hillary Clinton has loaned her presidential race $6.4 million over the last month, bringing the total amount of money she has lent herself to $11.4 million.

And she is willing to lend herself more money, top adviser Howard Wolfson told reporters Wednesday, a day after Clinton eked out a narrow victory over Sen. Barack Obama in Indiana's Democratic primary but lost to him by a landslide in North Carolina.

The $11.4 million she has lent her campaign this year is about the same as the amount she earned from book sales and her Senate salary, Wolfson said.

On a conference call with reporters, Wolfson said the loan proves Clinton is committed to staying in the presidential race.

"The loans are a sign of her commitment to continuing the race, her commitment to continuing the process and her commitment to staying competitive with Senator Obama on television and other areas," he said.

"The campaign continues to raise a lot of money, but Senator Obama, to his credit, is also raising a lot of money."

Clinton loaned herself $5 million on April 11, $1 million on May 1 and $425,000 since then, the campaign said Wednesday. The senator from New York loaned her campaign $5 million in February.

Clinton began the month of April with close to $32 million in cash on hand, but only $9 million of that total could be spent during the primary season, according to the most recent campaign reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The report also showed that Clinton owed more than $10 million, meaning she was in the red even before she heavily stepped up television advertising ahead of the Pennsylvania primary in late April.

The day after her convincing Pennsylvania win on April 22, the Clinton campaign said it raised $10 million on the Internet. The campaign has not said how much it has raised since her close win in Indiana and her North Carolina loss Tuesday.

I don't understand how someone who says they love the Democratic party an continue to fight so hard for a nomination she will not get. She is damaging herself financial. She has taken a campaign - Obama - based on hope and inclusion - one that generated excited that could have swept a Democratic president == amd a nmber of congressman and official in state contest into office. She is only thinking of herself. SHE doesn't want the party to win. She want's to win. If she doesn't she would prefer McCain win over Obama so she can get another shot at the Presidency in four years. I am so disappointed and disgusted with Hillary and Bill.

The fact that Hillary Romney has to loan her campaign money speaks volumns about her executive ablity, it's bad. Hillary and Bill's loyalists are the only ones left. Anyone with a brain has already defected to the Obama camp. Evidently these loyalists aren't qualified to do the job. Sounds like the Bush administration.

she wants to manage the nation's money but can't manage her campaign's money. She needs to listen to the economists. Ready on day one! Broke on day 2!

It is really astounding that she and her shills are actually claiming they had a good night. Closer in NC than predicted (was 20%, down to ONLY 16%) and "won" the "tiebreaker" in Indiana. Let's ride that wave to the White House!!!

It shows me the thinks she is entitled to the office even if the results CLEARLY show she is not winning and won't win. Why stay in unless you're ready to pull some shenanigans at the last minute?

The 6.4 Mil would be better spent if she gave it to charity and bowed out of the race. But I am sure that is the LAST thing on her mind. She is going to kick and scream all the way to November and try to drag the party down with her. What a gal.

  7. Hillary-ious

Let's sum up what this means-

Hillary has been stiffing people along the campaign trail, not paying her debts to event organizers and other contractors. She had already loaned herself five million, now has loaned herself another 6.4 million. At the same time, she is begging her supporters to donate more money to her campaign. The sad thing is to think about where all of this money is going- It is going toward increasingly negative attack ads, and efforts to destroy, discredit, and damage Obama, who by all accounts is looking like our eventual nominee. Why would any democrat in their right mind want to contribute money to that cause?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again- Hillary cannot win. She cannot win the pledged delegate total and she cannot win the popular vote total. Her entire campaign now rests on the ludicrous proposition that we should count FL and MI for some reason. Anyone who knows the facts about why FL and MI are not being counted realizes what a crazy notion it is to seat those delegates as is. Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan, largely because it was made perfectly clear that MI and FL were NOT going to count. Since it was so abundantly clear that these were meaningless primaries, the media had taken to calling them "beauty contests". Who's to say that many people who really wanted to vote didn't decide not to waste their time since it was a meaningless primary? The bottom line is that there is no possible way that the results from those two states can be considered fair. EVERYONE agreed that they would be stripped of their delegates, including the Clinton campaign. You cannot take that back, or undo the impact the decision had on this race. The one option which cannot be considered is using the results from those "beauty contests". Redo the elections if the states want to ( which they apparently don't, since both states voted to not redo their elections) but we cannot count the results unless they are either fair, or agreed upon by both campaigns.

Poor Billary-she's able to come up with 6 mil and don't we all believe she feels the pain at the pump and the ignominy of home disclosure.
More phoniness and flim flam from the Mistress of Mendacity. It's over Billary--pack up your fraudulent schtick, divorce Bubba and ride off into the sunset with your lesbian lover.

An Obama-Sebelius ticket could help move this whole business forward. How about a discussion on looking forward, and dealing with the world issues the next President will face, while letting Hillary tour the remaining five states and Puerto Rico.

    IT IS OVER LADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday was your last real chance to steal the election from Obama and you lost!!!!! The people have spoken and we do NOT want a queen for this country. You will have to go and find a new population of people to rule over HRC, and I am glad it is NOT this country!!!!!!!!!

I love the fact that she had to again loan herself money to fight a LOOSING fight and she is willing to drop millions of dollars for nothing……is that who we want in the WH, spend money on lost causes. Let's be frank here, that is what she is doing people.

I expect to see waterfall of SD start to get in line with Obama in the nect few days.

Oh and don't worry Hillbots, if your candiate steals this election from Obama, I would still vote for HRC, even though you people won't do that for Obama, atleast the exit polls suggest that. Pretty sad don't you think? And you Hillbots call us the mean one, whatever!!!!

I dont get this, people talk about Hillary's electibility and yet she keeps loaning her campaign money, Barack is rasing more money and spending more money and winning despite running against two time president and his wife with an established political machine on the ground. The Clinton group wants to raise money for a re- run of the botched Florida and mitchigan election, yet they dont have money to fund their campaign. I believe Hillary is running for herself alone and i hope her selfish ambition will not destroy the democratic party in the fall.

Why does she LOAN, why not GIVE like she has her supporters give her? At the end of the day the american people will have to pay her back that money. Shame on you Clinton.

not that these are original thoughts, but

    1. How can she manage the country's finances if she is this heavily indebted?

    2. How can she possibly accuse anyone of being out of touch with americans if she can just casually loan herself another $6.4 million. That's not in support of Obama, I just hate hypocrisy.

Well now that is just sad. No wonder she wants those cards and letters coming in with money inside.

Good grief woman have you paid your campaign debts yet or is this just more money already spent?

And SHE wanted to manage the budget of this country.

How can she compete against someone who has weekly support from people who "sacrifice" to give. This is why this isn't a democracy! Obama outspent Clinton 4-to-1. Tell me if there isn't something wrong with this picture. Of course she has to loan some of her own money! I would do the same, if it's for something that I believe in!!!

Since when do we accept a candidate such as Obama to just state "Change is needed", yet overall, he really doesn't present many SOLUTIONS to this "Change" that is needed. He consistently states the negative facts about America and our government, he actually sounds more & more like Reverend Wright when he speaks. Can you hear it?
Clinton has presented many logical solutions to many of our issues of concern. She really is the better choice for America.

As someone else stated Where is Obama getting his money while gas is approaching $200 a barrel? Not broke college kids. Terrorist oil money over the internet. It's not rocket science to figure out how to make hidden online donations.

THERE YOU GO AGAIN. All you morons calling for Hillary to get out. I am so sick and tired of you that if OBAMA does win the election I will never vote Democrat again. Besides why should she get out. She has won MI & FL and those states better be counted with their delegates and popular vote counting the way the people voted. OBAMA CAMPAIGNED IN FLORIDA SO SHE WON THAT STATE HANDS DOWN. IF OBAMA DIDN'T HAVE SENSE ENOUGH TO KEEP HIS NAME ON The ballot in MI. then this is the idiot you want to put in the White House. You call Hillary a liar. WELL MORONS WHAT DO YOU CALL THE UN-PATROTIC< UN-CHRISTIAN, REZKO SUPPORTED and the biggest gangster-murderer KENNEDY of them all supporting OBAMA. What is OBAMA. I'll tell you a man not fit to be president of these United States. DROP OUT OBAMA NOW BEFORE YOU ARE FOUND OUT TO BE WHAT YOU ARE. Osama Bin Laden man. HILLARY 08

Don't mind what these STUPID OBAMA people say about you, Hillary. He's NEVER going to win the general election. Rev. Wright, his pastor of 20 years, will resurface and then what will he do? Crumble.

Hillary is the best candidate to beat McCain. She will continue to fight.
