Watch McCain on the Daily Show Wednesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Of the Democratic presidential candidates, would Republican John McCain rather take on Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton?

"You know, Ron Paul is still in the race," McCain joked Wednesday during a taping of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."

McCain deadpanned about the marathon race between the Democrats: "I hate to watch it. It's terrible. My heart goes out to them."

During the taping, McCain pretended to walk off the set when Stewart pressed him on whether President Bush is more of a liability for him than the Rev. Jeremiah Wright is for Obama. Then
McCain fiddled with his microphone and mouthed "technical difficulties" into the camera.

The all-but-certain Republican nominee did reveal a few tidbits. His Secret Service code name, he thinks, "is 'jerk,"' and his choice for a vice presidential running mate is Dwight Schrute, a character on the NBC sitcom, "The Office," played by Rainn Wilson.

Comedy aside, McCain used the opportunity to challenge Obama, who moved a step closer to claiming the Democratic nomination after Tuesday's primaries in Indiana and North Carolina. Stewart asked whether McCain really believed the Islamic terrorist group Hamas had endorsed Obama. McCain's campaign issued a fundraising letter after a Hamas adviser, Ahmed Yousef, said the group likes Obama.

"It's indicative of how some of our enemies view America," McCain said. "And I guarantee you, they're not going to endorse me."

Off camera, Obama's campaign said McCain should apologize for "repeating tired and divisive attacks about Barack Obama that he knows are flat-out untrue."

Strange…
Re; The democrats… If Senator B.H. Obama wind the nomination, McCain has my vote.

rs   May 8th, 2008 9:47 am ET

I just want to know why Rush Limbaugh has not been arrested for election tampering in Indiana for influencing all those moronic Republicans to vote for Clinton. Isn't election tampering a federal offense?!

Henry Miller, Cary, NC   May 8th, 2008 9:47 am ET

Yeah, Ron Paul is still in the race–and McCain, with a few attitude adjustments, might make a decent VP running mate for him. That's certainly the only way I'd vote for a ticket with McCain's name on it.

Marshall   May 8th, 2008 9:50 am ET

Honest Man!

Glenn   May 8th, 2008 9:51 am ET

What a dufus!

Henny Lorenz   May 8th, 2008 9:54 am ET

I am surprise people still can take Mr Limbaugh in serious. He can say anything to try to avoid Obama to be the nominee. I am afraid Mr Limbaugh's new psychology doesn't work. It is just pathetic !!!

ted   May 8th, 2008 9:55 am ET

If McCain croaks and Dwight becomes president it will be more predictible than if Obama won. After years of seeing The Office at least we know what he's about. With OBama we can only hope and that's just not good enough given the circumstances.

Dwight's incompetence would be no worse than Bush's… I would be for it if it were at all plausible!

Anyway McCain shows he's not too old for a good joke. He's a quick wit and got lots of life left in him.

Holly   May 8th, 2008 9:55 am ET

What do you think about his pick for VP?

Deb   May 8th, 2008 9:57 am ET

Call me a McCain Democrat!

How does Obama think he will win with a Cult Base?

I enjoyed reading about how McCain plans on protecting America from Evil!

At this point I honestly feel Obama and his camp are the biggest Evil Americans need protection from!

Hillary or McCain 08

Republicans will never apologize or repudiate any of the untruths the perpetrate. It's in their party platform to not only hasten our journey to the end but to fabricate untruths until we get there.

Obama 08!

ha ha ha mccain is sooo funny!! he is totally in touch with me and the young hipsters who watch NBC sitcoms.

he rawks!!!!!!

MD   May 8th, 2008 10:01 am ET

Great! We had an actor for president. Now we are looking at a Comedian for the job. Great!

Bubba   May 8th, 2008 10:01 am ET

. . . oh. It was a joke? I thought Grampa McCain was just wandering in his wits again. Can we just get this over and elect Barack?

Grampa, maybe having Dr McDreamy would be a better choice, or Dr House? He could diagnose your paranoia and make you take your meds. But don't ignore Spongebob; he's huge with the college vote.

DD, New York   May 8th, 2008 10:02 am ET

As a democrat, McCain is better than unknown Obama….if Obama becomes president, I bet his Secret Service code name will be bonehead (even Obama admits to being one when his judgment is off).

Roger   May 8th, 2008 10:02 am ET

Hey McCain, you can beat Obama, but there is no way you can beat Hillary.

Ilona Proud Canadian   May 8th, 2008 10:02 am ET

I am quite confused.

John McCain, and now even disgusting Rush Limbaugh, and actually quite a lot of McCain, and Clinton's supporters, are saying that Barack will be an easier candidate for them to go up against at the General Election. (facts show that they are speaking out of both sides of their collective mouths)

If what they are claiming is true, why is it, that both Clinton and McCain are concentrating such disgusting tactics against Barack Obama? Do they really think that we are so gullible as to buy this argument?

Brian   May 8th, 2008 10:03 am ET

His candidacy is pretty much a joke anyways, so this would make perfect sense.

Karwolo   May 8th, 2008 10:03 am ET

PICK ME FOR VP!!!

Mark   May 8th, 2008 10:03 am ET

McCain is Bush #3. He's not fooling anybody.

Erin State College, PA   May 8th, 2008 10:03 am ET

I thought it was funny!

It's better than Obama saying my first act as President would be to end the feud between the girls on the Hills!!! That show is fake & annoying.

Jeff   May 8th, 2008 10:03 am ET

I really enjoy McCain's sense of humor in his television appearances, and he's a very genuine person. He makes a lot sense sometimes, and makes little sense at others, but I believe he's as good a candidate as we have. He may not be Reagan, but he's not Bush either. Given all this, I'm still not voting for him.

Zippy   May 8th, 2008 10:04 am ET

Come on election tampering, the democrats did the same thing in 2000 when John McCain won the state of Michigan, they didnt have a democrat running against Albert Gore on the ballot in Michigan and therefore crossed over. Get a life you Limbaugh hater.

Julie mn   May 8th, 2008 10:05 am ET

rs, yes election tampering is a federal offense, But Obama has alot of lawyers out trying to stop it from public knowledge, In texas, Obama camp called in 19 delagates for obama , BUT there were only 13 , and obama only won 4 of those, hmm, then when it is investigated, good old Obama sends his lawyers down to Texas, to say thats not fair. IF the MSM cared a bit about this country they would be reporting this. but they DONT CARE, so, to answer your question, I say you bet, bring it on! Lets start talking about rigged polls, fraud, I agree!!!!!!

matt   May 8th, 2008 10:05 am ET

TO continue calling Barack, "BHO" is completely ridiculous and it just shows how close-minded you are and blind to what he can actually do for this country. rush limbaugh should be thrown in jail with all the retards that tried to make a major outcome on the vote. It's just sad to see someone screwing around with such an important matter, such as voting in such a critical time as this. At the same time it is also quite amusing as limbaugh seemingly thinks that mccain cannot beat a candidate such as Barack on his own, without typical conservative unethical dirty politics.

Michael   May 8th, 2008 10:05 am ET

Ah, the misspellings, the misnomers, the miscreants who compose the Democratic Party. You have to love them wallowing in their ignorance.

Sharon Minnesota   May 8th, 2008 10:05 am ET

He's just biding his time and laying in wait for the democratic nominee to be chosen. Then he'll show his true colors. Don't kid yourselves, he's not a weird, harmless old man. After all, he did survive a prisoner of war camp and that's no small feat for any man or woman. I don't think your calling him names is going to hurt his feelings much but go ahead if it makes you feel tough and important.

obama fan   May 8th, 2008 10:06 am ET

OMG…. Leave Washingthon to Obama's hand. The WORLD needs a change. Not some Clinton nor Mc Cain era which disillusion people with the gas tax holiday plan. Wake up….Vote for Obama

Randy - Denver   May 8th, 2008 10:06 am ET

I always enjoy candidates when they are on the "Daily Show" they show their human side. And folks if you take ANYTHING they say on that show seriously you are in deep need of help, it is a COMEDY SHOW NOT REAL NEWS! I love the show and often laugh with them but I do understand that what you are seeing is being edited for laughter and the people on it are just relaxing and having a bit of fun.

Now me MY dream ticket would be Obama/Stewart!!!! A serious leader and someone we can laugh with what a great combination! (A JOKE PEOPLE!)

J   May 8th, 2008 10:06 am ET

Hehe he's got a good sense of humor. As usual, the daily show informs us of nothing relavent to voting.

Dave   May 8th, 2008 10:06 am ET

RS 9:47-

Rush Limbaugh did not engage in election tampering. DailyKos had the same idea, encouraging Michigan Democrats to vote for Mitt Romney to keep him in the race because Michigan had the same open-primary rules and because Michigan's delegates were not going to be seated.

Is it fair? Maybe not- let each party pick their own candidate, is my opinion. But certainly not illegal.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   May 8th, 2008 10:06 am ET

Those who say Hillary has given McCain ammunition in the general election debate against Obama, WRONG. Just do a rewind of the Bush and McCain debate that will certainly be used by the Democrat nominee and nobody talks about that. Think about it.

Jesse - San Antonio TX   May 8th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Obama will suffer a humiliating defeat.

Jay   May 8th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Roger   May 8th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Rush Limbaugh is 100% correct-o. Obama needs to drop out of the race now. But he won't do that and McCain will be president. Don't blame it on Hillary or her supporters. Blame it on the Obama supporters for being blind.

Steve   May 8th, 2008 10:08 am ET

Primaries should be "closed" to prevent "strategic" voting for candidates in parties other that that of the voter

Randy M   May 8th, 2008 10:08 am ET

Hey, OBAMA CANNOT WIN IN NOVEMBER, the only reason he won't win is if thickheaded Dem's stay home or even worse, cast a ballot for McCain. I can understand your dissapointment that your candidate didn't win but PLEASE, don't do something that we'll all regret. This election is not a game. It's not time to take your ball and go home. If you love our country, you will do what's right and quitting isn't right.

June   May 8th, 2008 10:09 am ET

it was good to see that McCain could laugh, on the Joh Stewart Show. As a speaker, he is boring, monotonous, monotone and I get a sore neck watching him pace back & forth, back & forth, like he was a puppet on a string.

Bryan   May 8th, 2008 10:09 am ET

Uh oh, guys. We better vote for Hillary because if we don't we're going to lose B. New York's vote!

Why do people insist on posting that garbage? Who cares?

GJ   May 8th, 2008 10:10 am ET

McCain is turning out to be a hypocrite since he started pedaling half-truths. He still has to answer for his public financing questions.

Steve in DC   May 8th, 2008 10:10 am ET

I dont like McCain at all…but I appreciate his attempt to be comical and show a human side.

NoozeJunkie   May 8th, 2008 10:10 am ET

Stewart also asked about the possibility of tabbing Hillary as the VP. I would not be shocked in the least to see that happen. The way she has conducted herself in this campaign shows she is much more to the right than anyone wishes to acknowledge. The issue to such a ticket: Would Hillary supporters buy into that pairing? I think so. They have expressed in the past they care more for her candidacy than the betterment of the country. But would McCain supporters climb abord? I'm not so sure.

Roger from Miami   May 8th, 2008 10:10 am ET

I'm not a McCain supporter, but I do appreciate his sense of humor (cheesy though it is sometimes), and I believe him when he says he will run a respectful campaign for the presidency. Yeah, harsh words will fly, but it won't be much worse than what Clinton and Obama are doing to each other right now. I've always admired Jon Stewart's respect for his guests, especially when he clearly disagrees with them politically.

Venus   May 8th, 2008 10:10 am ET

Mc Cain is a good man! His free ride is just about over with!

For you Hillary supporters - the race with Obama and Hillary was over with in February!!! When she lost 10-states!

Now - the DNC are sick of the Clintons and their ugly tactics against Obama and the DNC!

Obama and the DNC will give Hillary $30,000-million so she can pay back her loan and pay all of her un-paid bills!!!

Also - the DNC has told Hillary the race is over - but she can still campaign providing that she attack Mc Cain and not Obama!

Also - the Clintons have to make amends with the Blacks in this country!

So - if you are a supporter of Hillary and want to vote for Mc Cain -so be it! It won't matter - Obama will be our next president!

Go Obama and thank you to all Obama's supporters!

Ben   May 8th, 2008 10:11 am ET

This is the first time I can remember when two outside idiots played a significant role in the election process. I refer to Limbaugh and Wright. They both receive undeserved media attention to spew out their own personal agenda. Are we going to let them and other slime that certainly will slitherl out from under rocks once the general election starts influence our votes?

Lisa DC   May 8th, 2008 10:11 am ET

This guy i s a complete idiot, and his age shows. An old man, with dry humor, below the belt "weak punches," and followers just as dumb as him. Yeah I said it…."followers just as DUMB as he is!" Whether it's Clinton or Obama gets nominated, I'm voting for them…McCain could croak any day now…looking forward to it! Old hag!

Zeak Rivers, Mich   May 8th, 2008 10:11 am ET

Big John McCain will never make it to the Whitehouse, he is too old, too Bushy, too far to the right and can't remember things like the price of a gallon of gas today and is out of touch to most everyone under 50 years of age.

My generation wants someone who is young with new ideas for this country and someone who will not pander to big business and get them out of politics if they can. I know money runs everything and we just have to accept the lesser of 2 evils. We do not need more career politicians that lie to us and tell us what we want to hear anymore !!

At least 70% of the country feels that way too, I think and if they don't, than they deserve what they get, like we got now ????

Will   May 8th, 2008 10:11 am ET

To those "If Obama is the nominee, I'll vote for McCain" voters,

What are your concerns?

Obama and HRC have very little difference in their agenda, because it's more or less the Democrat's agenda.

Do you somehow think that Obama is the "anti-American" politicians, whose main goal is to tear down the United States apart?

Come on…

HRC's position on issues, doesn't even come close to McCain's…..

Donna Bedford   May 8th, 2008 10:11 am ET

You would think these people would just shut up and lets see what happens. He is actually doing very well! Lets face it in November this is going to be the biggest landslide victory in GE history Obama will beat ?Mc Cain buy 20 to 30 % in the vote!

WHY IS HILLARY REFUSING TO HEED THE WORDS OF AMERICANS? IS THIS THE KIND OF PRESIDENT SHE WILL BE IF SHE EVER WERE THE PRESIDENT? WE HAVE A PRESIDENT CURRENTLY (BUSH) THAT TOO, BELIEVES HE SHOULD "STAY THE COURSE" IN THINGS , AND YOU SEE WHERE THAT GOT OUR COUNTRY INTO –WAR AND FURTHER DEBT!

HILLARY IS IN HER DISBELIEF AND ANGER STAGES. HOPEFULLY SOON SHE CAN GET OUT OF HER CURRENT " DENIAL" STAGE AND ENTER INTO HER "ACCEPTANCE" STAGE, SO WE AMERICANS CAN GET ON WITH BEATING MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER.
OBAMA 08
TIME FOR HILLARY TO ACCEPT HER LOSS, GET OUT OF DENIAL, –ALL FOR THE "LOVE" OF HER COUNTRY SHE PROFESSED TO HAVE PRE-NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY TIME.
OBAMA 08

Paul   May 8th, 2008 10:16 am ET

I am a moderate who will probably vote for Obama election time. But, it's amazing the way people suddenly start bashing McCain as soon as he runs for president.

McCain has been held in high esteem by people all over the spectrum his entire career. He has never spent a single taxpayer dollar on earmarks, unlike Hillary and Obama, who have wasted millions on their pork barrel project to win votes. He has publicly stated that he would shut down Guantanamo Bay if elected, but these crazies with blinders on their eyes are so eager to make out McCain to be the devil, or the next George Bush because he is a Republican, that they have forgotten what a distinguished man Senator McCain is.

Not to mention he's a friggin war hero who was tortured daily for refusing to give information that would have cost U.S. lives to his Vietnamese captors

Jeff   May 8th, 2008 10:19 am ET

While he goes around and warms people up, Hillary attacks Obama, drawing blood over and over again. Why? Because she feels she s the better candidate.

Excuse me Hillary, who doesn't think they are the best candidate? You lost. You lost when you should have walked away with it. You ran a bad campaign, let Obama gain a base, and boom. You lost, your fault no one elses. Now take Lanny Davis, Begala and Carville and disappear, please.

Roger   May 8th, 2008 10:19 am ET

I can already see it now. Obama will lose against McCain and then all of the Obama supporters and the media will blame it all on Hillary for staying in the race too long. So predictable.

Alexa   May 8th, 2008 10:19 am ET

McCain's wife is a major liability. A "recovering" drug-addict who stole drugs from her own charitable medical organization. Don't forget the Keating Five incident, when she was the "accountant" who couldn't find receipts.

Also, love the stripper look! Even if she is a natural blond (cough, cough), let's put some low-lights in there to tone it down. She's 56, not 26.

kaduke   May 8th, 2008 10:20 am ET

Home of the free and the brave? How about home of the dimwitted and the uninformed? People that believe Obama is a muslim really shouldn't be allowed to vote. These fools can't understand the meaning of pictures on the back of cereal boxes. They have the combined IQ of a turnip {with apologies to the turnip}! These are the same folks who think Bush has been a good president. Look, if you can't read, find somebody to read for you. No one's going to think less of you. But, for petes' sake, make an effort to understand what's real and what's not. Don't allow yourselves to be led around by the nose.
People around the world, who once looked at America as a symbol of hope and promise, are shaking their heads in disbelief at the sorry mess we've become. Do your homework. It's our only hope

Write-in Hillary on ballot   May 8th, 2008 10:20 am ET

I propose a national write-in campaign. If Obama is the nominee, those of us, in good conscience, who absolutely cannot support him (such as I) should seriously consider writing Hillary Clinton's name on the national election ballot, rather than voting for McCain.

Nate   May 8th, 2008 10:20 am ET

McCain is hoping Obama will win the nomination. McCain knows he can beat him in November. He is not so sure about Clinton.

I like that Jon Stewart has McCain on his show so frequently, it shows he is really non-biased towards any particular candidate, he's more about informing the public (albeit in a comical way). And, yes, he has had Clinton on the show as well (maybe Obama as well, I forget).

Honestly, I want Jon Stewart for President. I don't trust Obama one bit, I don't like McCain's policies, and I don't like the new direction Clinton's campaign has taken towards her opponent. If nothing else, President Stewart would be more fun to watch. Maybe he could do a stand-up version of the State of the Union.

How did such an honest man survive in politics so long?

Dan , TX   May 8th, 2008 10:21 am ET

I think McCain is a hero. He is a good man. But his political philosophy is not right for what we need right now.

Obama is very stable and predictable. Something that we could use. Bush panicked and invaded Iraq because Bush was afraid of Saddam Hussein. There was no need to rush into Iraq until Bin Laden was dead and Afghanistan secure. Bush failed, and McCain supported the same failed plan of invading (as did Clinton). Obama would not fear anyone.

SEB   May 8th, 2008 10:22 am ET

Jeff   May 8th, 2008 10:22 am ET

I love how Clinton supporters are "threatening" Obama supporters by saying they will vote for McCain as punishment to the Obama supporter.

Listen up all you geniuses. . . .if that does become some sort of punishment, it will punish you as well. He would be our President and his policies would effect all of us. This isn't some sporting event, where you root for the team that knocked your's out.

Grow up you children! Ever heard of the saying cut off your nose to spite your face!

You lost, now, get in line like a good dem.

Vote for McCain and win a chicken for your pot!
Vote for McCain and bring back the south.
Vote for McCain and begin the second rise of the dixie.
Vote for McCain and say goodby to your children for the last time befor they go to war.
Vote for McCain the new Nero.
Vote for McCain the three generation away candidate.
Vote for 100 years more of the destruction of the USA.

Rush is a radio talkshow host and a great entertainer. Why people take this operation chaos seriously is beyond me. I quite enjoy his program, but would not use what he says as gospel. I also love John McCain and respect him as an American Hero and great senator who is truly able to unite and has proven it. As to his age–sounds like he has more energy and youth than most 50 + people. If he wins the election, (and I hope and pray it is McCain or Clinton) he will be a real leader–not a preacher with great oratory skills.

CLINTON LOVER 468   May 8th, 2008 10:24 am ET

Michael   May 8th, 2008 10:24 am ET

After watching the disappointing appearances from Clinton and Obama on The Colbert Report and reading Obama's dull Top 10 list from Letterman, it was nice to actually laugh when a candidate was on a comedy show. Maybe a good sense of humor has some bearing on one's capacity to be president, maybe not, but as a viewer it was nice to see a politician acting human.

So racism is bad, but ageism is okay….. I keep hearing these comments from the dems. Thank goodness for the liberal left.

Southern view   May 8th, 2008 10:26 am ET

I think McCain's choice should be David Archuleta. They would be a shoo-in.

Uncle Sam   May 8th, 2008 10:27 am ET

The notion that a McCain presidency would be a continuation of the Bush legacy flies in the face of John McCain's life story. His independent and unorthodox nature, while not always appreciated by those even within his own party, has always been in service to a cause greater than his own self-interest. Sen. McCain has his share of flaws, but even his critics admit that being his own man is not one of them.

Matt, Cleveland OH   May 8th, 2008 10:27 am ET

Lighten up folks, this was on the Daily Show, not C-SPAN.

And to those whining about Rush Limbaugh fiddling with the election, consider this: John McCain's campaign was all but dead until elections with open primaries allowed Democrats to cross over and vote for him (trying to ensure a liberal candidate no matter what). He stole votes away other viable candidates.

Nathan Prophet, Raleigh, NC   May 8th, 2008 10:27 am ET

McCain is obviously "stiff", "old", suffering from PTSD, and like an angry volcano that could erupt any minute. He is an anachronism whose world-view is frozen in the 1960s. He is a 1-dimensional thinker, "us against them" and "American is always right". Those days are over. We need fundamental change and a vision for the survival of future generations. We need Obama.

Darrell   May 8th, 2008 10:27 am ET

I will not vote for a man that has attended a white racist church for 20 years and got married their and raised his children in the church if he was white he would of been asked to resign as a senator and his political life wold be ended

Liz   May 8th, 2008 10:28 am ET

The average age of dementia starts at 65.

McCain wants a 100 year war.

McCain does not know economics.

McCain is not the smart choice.

To RS: you need proof of election tampering to bring a case. C'mon, who takes Rush Limbaugh at his word anyway?

steph p   May 8th, 2008 10:28 am ET

Not that he'll ever make it to the white house but if he does, he definitely should take Dwight Schrute. That way we at least know someone competent will be in office - that being Dwight.

Darrell   May 8th, 2008 10:29 am ET

Its Clinton or MCCain that will get my Vote thank you DNC for taking away our votes in Florida we will not vote for Obama in Florida

Janey   May 8th, 2008 10:30 am ET

to proud canadian–Obama caused his own problems–please stop trying to blame the other candidates–I lived in canada for years–they would never put up with a candidate with Obamas baggage. He would have been pushed out by the party elders for rendering himself unelectable! You Canadians do not even have primaries–the delegates pick the nominee. Maybe you need to know a bit more about your political system before you comment!

Disgruntled voter   May 8th, 2008 10:30 am ET

Amen to you brother. You speak like someone who actually isn't swayed by the political bashing of the extreme left.
Stay in the center where the weather is much nicer.

If what Rush said is tampering with an election, isn't campaigning also?

All of you with bumper stickers promoting one candidate over the other are all guilty of a federal offense!

Jim in Asheville   May 8th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Perhaps McCain for VP, but Ron Paul for President! The only candidate from either party who stands solidly behind the Constitutional limits on government.

Nancy Coon   May 8th, 2008 10:31 am ET

Mr. McCain: I am a republician and I vote republician, so lay off of your comments on President Bush if you want my vote. Run your own campaign on your abilities not on childish name calling of someone else. Also, if you win, close our borders and send the illegals back to their own country. Save our country here, now before it is too late.

Darrell   May 8th, 2008 10:31 am ET

I am one of 1.7 mil Florida Democrats that voted in the Primary and the DNC is not seating our deligates well all I can say if Hilary is not the Nominee Florida will be voting Republican we will not vote for a White Racist for President

Jon   May 8th, 2008 10:32 am ET

Dwight would be an awesome VP! His plan of health care is better than both democrats. As long as Count Choculitis and Sausage Fingers are covered, I'm for it!

Debby   May 8th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Its going to be easier for McCain to take on Obama because the man has character and he will eat Obama alive in foreign policy discussions especially with Iraq as Obama hasn't been there to see whats happeing on the ground.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   May 8th, 2008 10:33 am ET

You know–I don't see why any respectable leader would go on Stewart's show. We have enough baloney and sound bites already. Just once I'd like to see some serious discussion for the benefit of the listeners.

George   May 8th, 2008 10:33 am ET

RS,

Because election tampering would consist of either restricting individuals from voting or altering the process of votes, i.e. not counting ballots. If someone was convicted of election tampering for encouraging someone to vote for a particular candidate, regarless of motive, then 99.9% of the population would be in prison.

Go John   May 8th, 2008 10:33 am ET

I'm hoping that Hillary will ask to be his VP. She seems to like his platform so much. This is coming from an independent who always voted Republican.

HD   May 8th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Thank heavens the Dems now have their candidate and can proceed to the general against Grandpa McCain. I was surprised he could stay up that late.

Anyway, our party will come back together as we are better than the fighting that has been going on. I was not for Hillary, but hate to see it ending like this. It is sad to see her fight on with no chance of getting the nomination. We are heading to a new future in Washington politics and the Clintons are not a part of it - they and many like them are the past.

I hope she stops before she destroys her chances for any political future.

fair and balanced   May 8th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Lighten up folks.

Regarding Limbaugh…. He did it for Texas and Indiana and it worked. Look at how close those races were. Say what you want but the man told them to support her and they do it.

Question: Why would Limbaugh, Newt, Hannity, Colter and some of the conservative pundits want Hillary?

a) Because they love her policies.
b) Because they know whats' best for America
c) Because they don't want to face the other candidate

Would love responses…

SH   May 8th, 2008 10:36 am ET

Write-in Hillary on ballot : I agree with you completely. However, I believe that would not happen. Therefore, I request you to consider voting for John McCain.

Sounds like someone missed their nap time! It is people like you who bring this country down. Your negative attitude and personal attacks are certainly bad for this country.
People like you should not even be allowed to vote. You have no grasp of reality and think nothing other than what the Democratic far left has piped into your thin skull.
In other words, you are exactly what the DNC likes. Someone who can be maniupulated and twisted any which way they see fit to twist you.
Bravo.

Jim in Asheville   May 8th, 2008 10:38 am ET

PS- Of course now that we live in the Welfare State, constitutional limits are anathema for most people.

Patrick   May 8th, 2008 10:40 am ET

rs -

Using your radio show as a platform to tell people how they should vote is not election tampering because the people still have to go to the poll and vote for themselves. Election tampering is when dead people vote or when voting precincts are shut down early or when people are threatened not to vote.

I know that this type of reasonable explanation is not welcome in this comment section, but just couldn't hold back on such a ridiculous claim.

FYI, I can't stand Rush Limbaugh either, but you just make yourself look foolish when you attack those you don't agree with and have no basis for it. If you ever do have a good argument, no one will listen.

Bubba   May 8th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Two years ago McCain was still young enough for this. Stuff like this makes it obvious he's in his dotage. It's like Quayle confusing 'Candice Bergen' with 'Murphy Brown,' remember how intelligent that was?

Janel, St. Paul, MN   May 8th, 2008 10:41 am ET

I doubt McCain's heart is going out to the Democrats.

What a terrific race it will be when Obama is the Democratic nominee. McCain is so deadpan . . . so boring. In energy alone. . .not to speak about vision and plans. . .Obama will cream McCain!

Kathy   May 8th, 2008 10:42 am ET

McCain will win the election in November if he is running against Obama. Those who value style over substance and make Obama the Democratic choice are setting McCain up for his win. You can dispute this, but in about six months we'll all know that this was true.

TruthHurts   May 8th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Can you people really see Obama for who he really is? Did you all miss the Rev Wright issue? I certainly did not and even though he has seperated hisself from him, it is to late. That should have been done years ago. The only reason he is popular is because of his race. Obama-"I thank all of you who voted for me because I am an African American"
Wake up people. If you hang around drug dealers then what does that say about you? If you hang around thieves what does that say about you? If you hang around racist for 20 years what that say about you?

troy   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

The Clinton supporters are the ones that need a reality check! If Hillary somehow manages to steal the nomination or manipulate her way into it then the Dems will be out of luck. She could not win on her own and certainly not on some typical Clinton "deal". Wake up people, Hillary is fighting for Hillary and not the country. How anyone can support this phony is unbelievable! She doesn't forget things she LIES! She is the most revolting politician in recent history. Bush supporters can take comfort that millions of people just like them support another candidate that is not qualified to run the country. Her campaign is broke and in debt and she wants to run the country? Cut and paste this Clinton zombies: she is NOT GOING TO BE PRESIDENT!!!!!

Todd   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Jon   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

McCain is no better than Obama or Hillary. He is very weak on illegal immigration and is only marginally less liberal on most other social issues. At least if he picks Ron Paul as a running mate we have a chance for a real Republican president some time over the next 4 years.

JDC   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

This conservative hopes he doesn't make it until November!!!

Bill from Rochester, NY   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Julie MN, you really need to understand how convoluted the Texas election process is. They not only have a primary but afterwards they have a caucus. This is why no one can figure out how the count is the way it is. There was no issues involving lawyers except to validate the result for both Clinton and Obama. Don't get such a wedgie about it, there's no fraud involved. As for Rush sending all of those Republicans over the the Democrate side, no harm done. They all voted for Clinton which fortunately gave her Indiana but only by a couple of points. Obama still walked away from the night with an increase in all areas, delegates, super delegates, and popular vote.

Jacob   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Amen to those reasonable people that still salt the American heartland. To democrats, McCain is as attractive as a republican ever could be. He has stood the middle ground forcefully on many more issues than any other republican I know. However, I still believe that, were he the president, he would carry the cowboy torch that Bush would hand off to him. We can't let that happen. As for Ron Paul, its true… he's not politician enough to get into office. But wouldn't it be nice to have a constitutionalist with an intelligent approach to international relations? Also interesting to note that Ron Paul appreciates Obama's foreign policy approach more than his own parties nominee… hmmmm… how about an Obama/Paul ticket? They'd sure nail down the independent vote…

Andrew, somewhere ohio   May 8th, 2008 10:44 am ET

Remember the negative words you say about McCain, for you will be eating them in November. I don't support the wife of a candidate who claim's she still hasnt found a reason to be proud of America. That kind of hits hard to us War Veterans. - andrew age 23

Geeze, This new and younger generation has had it pretty soft. By being allowed to coast on the hard works of their parrents, contribute little and be a part of The Culture of Affluence" our parrents and grandparents provided, they have contributed in large part to all the difficulies they now face. It is now time for the hard work with no alternatives. If Obama is elected and continues to promise so much and is not able to deliver with his give a way economic, social, and health care plans, - which he will not- he will find himself in deep kaka very quickly. Better we elect a realist like Johnny McCain who has been in a more brutal part of the real world, knows that the way out requires hard work and is prepared to show the way.

Justin   May 8th, 2008 10:46 am ET

McCain admitted he didn't vote for Bush in 2000. Now he's buddy-buddy with him. Sad that the former maverick has sold out.

shirley   May 8th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I need to comment on Rush Limbaugh though that article is closed. We have American's dying in Iraq to promote Democracy, Limbaugh in suggesting that his Republican listener's vote in a way that corrupts our election goes against everything Democracy stands for. I can't believe he isn't run off the air for this suggestion that we 'fix' our election like some Third World Country. It is dishonest, dishonorable and indefensible. Shame on all those American's who participated in this corrupt act.

Mike   May 8th, 2008 10:46 am ET

I think McCains VP slot should be filled by either Bobby Jindal or Matt Blunt. The problem with Jindal is that he is young and even more inexperienced than Obama is. That being said, McCain needs to pick a younger guy and someone that is more conservative than him to solidify the base.

Question For Barack   May 8th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Wolf,

Please ask Barack what he thinks his candidacy will teach future generations.

Dan in CO   May 8th, 2008 10:47 am ET

""I can already see it now. Obama will lose against McCain and then all of the Obama supporters and the media will blame it all on Hillary for staying in the race too long. So predictable.""

Not for staying in the race too long. That's perfectly legitimate.

For fighting a general election campaign and putting her interests above her party's, absolutely yes.

V   May 8th, 2008 10:47 am ET

It might work. How old is Dwight Schrute??

Edward   May 8th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Those democrats who keep saying McCain is 4 more years of Bush need to stop believing the lip service from Obama and Hillary and do their research. Honestly people, think for yourselves once and awhile and see the truth.

Tom Eyemdaman   May 8th, 2008 10:47 am ET

rs, You're kidding, right? Election tampering is if you physically influence the election by tampering with voting machines or alter the ballot counts by other methods.

If what you say is true, Hillary making a stump speech trying to influence voters would be considered election tampering!!! Obama or Clinton influencing any Republican voters to vote for them would be election tampering! Give me a break. Democrats will spout any sort of nonsense to try to put Republicans on the defensive.

The fact is the democrats have two weak candidates, and McCain will eat them for breakfast in the fall.

rj   May 8th, 2008 10:48 am ET

I heard McCain's wife pledge that there will be no negative politics in the november election. She must know then that Hillary has no chance of getting the nomination. If Hillary is in the general election you can count on nothing but negative politics….unfortunately that's all she knows.

Julie mn   May 8th, 2008 10:49 am ET

I would like to know why so many canadians are on the blogs? Not to mention they seem to have little grasp of how their own country works? I have been getting hangup calls from Ontario,Ca, very odd i say, so I reported it to the local police, tele-marketers ? maybe, but seems scary to me….

Dean   May 8th, 2008 10:50 am ET

The only reason Wright has been going after Obama is because after a 20 year relationship and Obama believing in Wright then turning around and saying he's pretty much an idiot pissed him off. He knows Obama beleives in his garbage preaching since he been with him for 20 years. Use common sense and determine what Obama really stands for.

THK   May 8th, 2008 10:50 am ET

Telling people who you think they should vote for isn't election tampering.

Bill from Rochester, NY   May 8th, 2008 10:50 am ET

Nancy Coon, if your so proud that you voted Republican, obviously for Bush, than why are you quoting so many problems for McCain to fix. McCain is also a Republican, right.

Dave   May 8th, 2008 10:50 am ET

100% democrat… I do NOT trust Obama. He always seemed fishy. I hope all the superdelegates decide to change their vote to hillary…
Otherwise, il be voting Republican for the first time ever.

And don't be saying Dems who would rather vote for McCain than Obama are not real Democrats….. Why would I want to vote for someone that i honestly do not trust. Obama would bring about doomsday much faster than McCain would.

liberals' worst nightmare   May 8th, 2008 10:51 am ET

I can't believe (or maybe I can) all the hatred directed at John McCain, mostly by Obama supporters. Why? McCain has been a dedicated public servant for our country for decades. You may not agree with his politics, but remember that he has been working with Republicans and Democrats for a long time.

It's beyond ironic that Obama's supporters claim to be above all the "typical" political bickering, but they are the worst offenders!! This is the main reason I don't want Obama to win– I don't want his mean-spirited, idiotic followers to get carte blanche treatment in this country, because they are far from deserving!

Trisha   May 8th, 2008 10:52 am ET

Why is it a joke that Ron Paul is still in the race. The only joke here is McCain.

Feron   May 8th, 2008 10:52 am ET

All I am going to say is if out of spite for Obama (for whatever reasons) Americans vote for McCain, then you deserve whatever you get.

Richard, FL   May 8th, 2008 10:52 am ET

It's a joke, but why not? Republicans constantly criticize "Hollywood" Democrats and then elect "Hollywood" Republicans over and over. Amazing hypocrisy, but that's not unusual for them.

Rob   May 8th, 2008 10:52 am ET

Whatever else his foibles and attributes may be, I have yet to detect the duplicity of Obama and the outright filth of the Clintons in McCain. Bush is an idiot and a puppet of his handlers. That being said, the only two choices for VP are Ron Paul or Colin Powell. Colin Powell is/was the singular person of honor and integrity in the whole present administration.

Roger   May 8th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Don't blame the Hillary supporters for voting for McCain. Blame the Obama supporters for being so blind that they vote for an empty suit instead of the pantsuit with substance.

Mike   May 8th, 2008 10:53 am ET

He's a great man. This Country could certainly use a great, honest, loyal man at the helm - and John McCain fits those shoes perfectly.

NBC   May 8th, 2008 10:53 am ET

If you're a Democrat and your nominee didn't make the cut and you vote for Mc Cain……You should have supported him in the Republican Primary. The direction or the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are 180 degrees. So, what is that choice based on since issues have nothing to do with it?

Bill from HBG, PA   May 8th, 2008 10:54 am ET

I like how he had to read the name off of a piece of paper — because I am sure he has no idea who Dwight Shrute is! I like his humor and he is 100 times better than the person in the White House now…but we need a change of regime and a new direction. McCain was using the same scare tactics to drum up votes as Bush has used since 9-11. Fear mongering hopefully won't be successful this time around!

Marcus   May 8th, 2008 10:54 am ET

McCain would die in office of melanoma. The 5 year survival rate for melanoma is less than 25%. He on borrowed time at this point. Look for him to announce, somewhere around September/October that he has a reoccurance of the cancer. Nominating him was a stupid move for the Rep. party. Obama will ultimately run aginst the "Republican Party" and not an individual because Huck will not have time to mount a campaign.

I would like to see John McCain debate Ron Paul one on one. Ron Paul's new book hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list today. Dr. Paul would show McCain and the rest of the country what our Constitution means and what a true statesman should be like. But we all know McCain wouldn't debate Paul one on one in a neutral settings because Dr. Paul would wipe the floor with him. McCain is just another establishment crony hence thats why his positions changeswith the political winds. What a panderer.

Mark, NY   May 8th, 2008 10:56 am ET

You're all crazy. McCain is even more of a Democrat than Bush is. Yes, I know what I said - they're both DEMOCRATS. Until we have real conservatism back in this country, we're going downhill, and will continue to hand this country over to whoever wants it - foreign or domestic.

Joy Mills   May 8th, 2008 11:00 am ET

I was furious when the Democrats stood by and let Bush take Gore's victory. Now I am furious because they have given the nomination to Obama. Why? Because there are some old time petty arguments against the Clinton's. The prejucice has been here for so long that the Democrats and Cnn commentators forget that we need a President who can do the job. Obama is not a unifier. He will not bring the "Party " together. He can not. "WHO CARES ABOUT THE PARTY? I want a President. And everyone knows that Hillary would be the better president. Super delegates, Al Gore, John Edwards should come out. If they really support Hillary they need to do it now or it will be to late. If they are going for Obama just because he talks of "change" they should be ashamed! I care less about the party that about my future. I am almost 60. This is the last election that I will support, immerse myself into the daily road. My future is over when Obama is in . I truly wish that Hillary would run under the Independents. We have a threesome race now. Why not let it continue? Please Hillary for the sake of the country, forget the party and run as an Independent!
Only one more comment.! The media should be ashamed of their bias. Of course this is about race. Because you have made it that way. You have talked against the Clintons so long that you damaged her campaign . It is your fault and the Party will not heal regardless of what the commentators say. I have a long memory. So does this country. Obama in the next election might be okay. For now, you have cost me the loss of my future. Joy Mills, Dodd City, TX

ANGRY DEMOCRAT, PA   May 8th, 2008 11:01 am ET

I can't believe these so called "Democrats" are going to vote for Mccain over Obama. That is ridiculous and they obviously don't care about the issues, or are not informed about the issues at all. And fail to realize that the LAST thing this country needs is another ELITE republican with a multi-millionaire family running this country. (his truly elite wife) Don't they realize that Obama and Hillary are practically the same candidate. I think this is where the real racism and prejudice shines through in america. Very sad.

Just what I would expect from Hillary supporters "oh, if obama wins, I'm voting for McCain". You idiots. If by something more than a miracle, Hillary wins, of course I'll vote for her. We need a Democrat. Unfortunately, Hillary supporters are just too divisive. Go ahead and vote for McCain out of spite. It's definitely worth defending your overinflated ego to have another republican in office… None of you are democrats, and you're a bunch of simpletons. No wonder the democrats that actually HAVE an education support Obama…

Unshrub   May 8th, 2008 11:02 am ET

WE may think it was funny, but McCain really thought he was real.

Adrienne   May 8th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Obama was right. Most Americans cling to their religion and guns. Blind ,stupid morons the lot of them. When McCain wins because most Americans put racial preference and the importance of a stupid American flag pin before their own interests…my only satistfaction will come from saying "I told you so!"

Ben   May 8th, 2008 11:02 am ET

A least he has good sense of humor. I am not a McCain supporter, but he is a good guy.

SCHRUTE BUCKS will save America's economy! Mark my words!

Obama's base is broad and deep. The fact that the 'new " democratic base includes everyone except old white people is an indication that this is no cult.

Darrell: Get a life! And get your facts straight. Take your blinders off. You think your candidate is so pure? Come on…

Of course Mr. McCain would rather face Mr. Obama.

It has become crystal clear that Mr. Obama cannot win the general election and that John McCain would easily trounce him. Who wouldn't be happy going into a contest with a huge advantage?

Starting with Al Gore's weak performance in 2000 and following with the disaster that was John Kerry, it has become clear that Democrats by and large have given up on winning the White House. The writing is on the wall and without a strong candidate with broad appeal and support, such as Hillary Clinton, the Democratic party will wither and die.

Knowing that he cannot win the general election, one must ask exactly what Mr. Obama’s goal is.

Go Hillary   May 8th, 2008 11:06 am ET

If Obama's campaign did not like what McCain said, they need to come out and explain. It is all over the news that Barack Hussein Obama was endorsed by Hamas.
Why don't they like THAT endorsement? We make our enemies our friends. Very Christian.

There is nothing funny about mcbush. russ to the camera russ to the drugs lindbaugh or limp balls i can't remember, who is a drug addict, no a fat drug addict has already told the public how mcbush is going to fight come novermber—personal dirt. when will we as americans understand 20 years of bush/clinton or mcbush need to be stopped. funny–you and clinton voted to go to war which has caused thousands of lifes and did not have anything to do with 911–wouldn't even read the documents we put together that would have avoid the Iraq war. I served as a protector to Col Judjens who is in the service hall of fame and CIA and i will tell you—there is nothing funny about any of this russ to the drugs, russ to the camera, limbaugh or limp balls continuing this dirty politics that the world judges us by.

Wow, he's cool now (sarcasm). For a moment, I totally forgot that he's an old fart (even more sarcasm).

ANGRY DEMOCRAT, PA   May 8th, 2008 11:07 am ET

And about this rush limbaugh and all you dumb republicans being played like puppets by him…Do you really think rush limbaugh cares about the american people and has their best interest at heart? NO, of course he wants another republican, something tells me he qualified for the Bush tax cuts. Him attempting to tamper with the results of the most crucial primary season in history is ridiculous and unpatriotic. Rush as well as all you republicans who are doiing what he says should be ashamed of yourselves. Man we sure do need another republican since this "bush" character really has this country in GREAT SHAPE….. All you republicans need to get your heads out of your butts and realize that the republican party has been lying to you for going on a decade now. WAKE UP!!!!

Erik   May 8th, 2008 11:08 am ET

The Senator is an honorable has-been, put forth by his party as a standard-bearer in what was originally an obvious losing race. Of course, the Democratic Party dust-up makes Senator McCain's shot at the White House less of a pipe-dream.

Why are most of you Hillary supporters mocking people who support Obama. I don't mock you for supporting Hillary.

Some of you Hillary supporters are so caught up in the need to be right all the time that you would vote for McCain just to prove you were right and other people of your own party are wrong…

That is the most selfish thing you could possibly do in November. Grow up…

Roger   May 8th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Obama supporters were't to concerned about Hillary supporters a while ago. I'm sensing a bit of despair from their posts now. After all of the posts calling Hillary a liar, an old hag, a loser, and sometimes much much worse. How can you honestly blame us for voting for McCain if Obama wins the nomination?
