Clinton holds a big lead in West Virginia.
Clinton holds a big lead in West Virginia.

(CNN) – Even as she faces pressure from some to call her White House bid quits, Hillary Clinton holds a commanding lead in West Virginia, according to a new poll released Friday.

Clinton has a 43-point advantage over Obama, 66 percent to 23 percent, according to a new survey from the American Research Group.

The poll was conducted entirely after Tuesday's primary results, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The poll suggests Clinton’s white, working class base seems to be holding firm for her — at least in West Virginia, where that demographic makes up a substantial portion of the Democratic electorate.

West Virginia, one of the six contests left in the Democratic presidential race, votes next Tuesday.

Folks,

Do you remember those famous "poll of polls" going into the Indiana and North Carolina Primaries????? Well here we go again!!

Not to worry though we only need a small portion of all the remaining Primaries!!

sabniz   May 9th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Who cares? Some people do care and they want to make a statement with Hillary, and say NO to Obama.

Bob   May 9th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Every derogaroty comment made by Obama's followers about West Virginia just pushes more voters away from him in Nov.
For allegedly being the "smart educated group", you are making
a very dumb tactical move.
A side note: I drove home from Co. last yr & driving thru
West Virginia I was amazed at how beautiful it was.
I commented on that to my wife…also Kentucky.

Julie   May 9th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

Let her have WV, I just heard her say vote white. She doesn’t represent all the people. The world is changing, it’s going to take everybody coming together to survive. We should all be called Americans, without an adjective before it, such as White Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans etc.,

Brian from Fort Mill, S.C.   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

All Obama has to do is knock it down to about 20 points just so he can force Hillary to spend money she doesn't have! He doesn't even need to get close, he just needs to buy up some ads to make her buy what she can afford.

They're just prolonging the inevitable, but if they want to keep limping along, that's fine with me.

Fred   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I suppose her win in WV (a small state) will mean…..ahhhhh…… It never ceases to amaze me how the electorate can be willfully ignorant.

Dee   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

AND?
What does she want? The Clintons' Vice Presidency?
She is strong but the reality she came in with negative that she could not make up- Bill O' Reilly told her that too. When you as a mother running for the Presidency has to define yourself by alcoholic- there is a problem. This is not a sorority campaign for president.
All the political pundits are singing, "Goodbye " to her campaign but not to her political career in another direction.
Who pays her the 11 million debt? Certainly it will not be West Virginia voters or Kentucky? She is so one of us I suggest she sells candy bars and Clinton Cokkies at the county and state fairs. You think?

NOBAMA, PA Voter   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

And GOOD BYE to Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi and Casey…

Laura   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

GO HILLARY!!! You have my support and vote!!!!

I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR OBAMA!!!!

BBlack- not surprised a comment like that came from an Obama supporter.

Mar   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Now we'll see how the Obama people like it when they see all the NON-VOTERS for Obama. Maybe they will get it thru their heads that he is only getting the black vote nowadays. Iowa is long gone and those that voted for him are in deep regret. Who knew at the time they were voting for an unpatriotic candidatem, not to mention dear old Michelle, and a guy with no real ideas of his own. His famous last words are "I agree with Hillary". Not a thought in his head. He even has someone else write those lovely speeches. This guy can't do anything!!!
Go Hillary, we love you!!!

This side of the Mississippi   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Well,
Hillary gets her "white American" votes, as if white Americans are the only hard working Americans in this country and their vote is all that matters to her campaign because other non-white American votes are not as important.
I know that was a run-on sentence, but what makes me sick is the fact that she is enthused about the voters who would rather vote for her than see a black man as president. sad and pathetic……………..

Cyndi   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Here we go again calling the voters stupid and ilerate. Hillary how can you fix your mouth to say that to the American People. I don't consider myself as studpid or dumb and that is why I am not voting for you.

Team Obama   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Has anyone noticed he has not campained there at all. He knows he won't do well there, no matter what. Why waist all of our "Hard Working" donations on a lost cause……

Judas From New Mexico   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

If Obama has yet to reach the magical number and she's gonna win more states, then why shouldn't Clinton continue?? Sure, the math is very unlikely to work for Clinton this time around. But like every other politician out there, she's gotta look out for #1. It doesn't mean it's right, but that's the way and life of every sick and twisted egomaniac running for office – especially at the presidential level. All politicians are the same, don't tell me otherwise. That said, Clinton is smart to continue and build her base for a possible if not likely 2012 presidential run. If Obama loses to McCain, then she's already ahead of the pack to challenge for 2012. No Obama and his core of black voters to deal with then. Losers get eliminated from contention: Dukakis, Gore, Kerry, etc… Four years isn't that far away, just think back to how quick college went by.

Sure building her base of support, winning states, votes and delegates for Clinton now is akin to hitting a useless HR in baseball or scoring a TD in football when your team is gonna lose the game anyways. It might not matter now, but those stats still count when it's time to negotiate a lucrative contract. In Clinton's case, that would mean cashing in 2012.

Like it or not, politics isn't a team sport – it's every man for himself.

M.S. Indiana   May 9th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

Come on, she is not in for the race any more, it have been over for a long time.. but at she can try and rescue the money spend on this campaign.. and pay the debts….

What is her goal ?? to become VP or something else ???

Steve in DC   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

What???? My God in Heaven…If she wins by that much…Obama will loose the nomination for sure!!! Maybe Obama should get out now before they even hold the primary…after all if he cant win WV…how can he run the country?

I hope the people of W. Virginia will not turn out to fit the stereotype of the uneducated, racist, hillbilly. I have to believe that they have a little more decency and intellect than that.

David   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

She wins the uneducated, white vote all the time…..who cares.
West Virginia is barely a state.

Kevin-Seattle   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

I'm going to say this everyday till November—25 yr. Democrat member. I've NEVER voted Republican and NEVER WILL!! When I see Democrats suggest to not vote or vote Republican, turns my stomach. There have been plenty of years that my candidate didn't make it as my nominee…I never considered switching parties. We are Democrats for a reason a no vote or a vote for Republican has lasting consequences–Supreme Court (Judges), Iraq War, Pro-Choice Rights, etc.<–YOU VOTE REPUBLICAN THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE IMPACTING!!! McCain said last week or this week that he would nominate Supreme Court Judges that support Pro-LIfe/Anti-Abortion. Seriously, think about it!!

vict   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

What this is going to change? is that mean she will be the one who leads in delegates after tuesday? do you have any news about how super delegates are flowing to OBAMA? she can win 100 to OBAMA 0 ii WV who care?

Q   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

There ya'go, the good, God fearing White Folk of West virginia have spoken!

Extinct Snipe   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

How many people live in West Virginia who aren't related to everybody else. Billary must have a cousin there so that means she's related to 99% of the state's population. Who wouldn't vote for their cousin? They speak the same Hillbilly language.

Seriously, the people in West Virginia are great people, and I'm just jiving about them all being related. J.F.K. carried West Virginia in his time so for sure Obama will carry them as well. When he's running for president. Obama for President!

Sean Lloyds   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Hillary can be proud to win all the inbred votes to be had in WV!
What's so surprising is her talking up how she gets all the uneducated voters, is that her sense of pride?

Kitade   May 9th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

What a bunch of idiots!
As a white older male, with an education who follows politics closely, it is simply a fact that for the last 46 years, that without a 90% African American vote for the Democrats, not a single Democratic president would have been elected!
It is absolutely outrageous that anyone would accuse African Americans of being racist for overwhelmingly votig for a candidate (50% white) who is so emunently qualified, that they can actually relate to!
Look in the mirror if you twits want to see a racist…the reflection will be white!

Shawn from Kansas   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Whoever the nominee is, they will need to rely on the Democratic votes from WV come November. Wish Obama would have campaigned there out of respect for WV voters. It may help his cause later.

Venus The Super star   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

I'm happy they are supporting Hillary clinton the most qualified and most experianced person in the race. Obama has only been in the senate for 3.5 years. What are people thinking? we can not put someone like that in the white house, are you kidding me? Regardless if she is expected to win this state or not, it's not a good enough excuse for obama to put the blame on this if he should lose. Obama thinks he has the nomination in the bag, but didn't anyone ever tell him that old saying? Dont count your chickens before they hatch.

E. C., Houston, Texas   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

KEEP GOING …..HILLARY!!!! DON'T QUIT NOW! OBAMA HASN'T A CHANCE TO WIN IN NOVEMBER, AND YOU CERTAINLY DO! YOU'RE THE MOST EXPERIENCED AND THE STRONGEST LEADER BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR OPPONENT. HE'S A RAH, RAH PERSON WHO CANNOT SUPPORT HIS 'TWO WORDS' WITH IDEAS AND SUCCESS. HE DOESN'T HAVE THE RECORD THAT YOU HAVE IN THE SENATE OR CERTAINLY NOT YOUR STRENGTH OF CONVICTION. HE'S WILLY NILLY WISHY WASHY AND CANNOT MAKE A DECISION…………AS THIS COUNTRY HAS SEEN IN HIS CHOICE OF PASTORS. WE DO NOT NEED THIS ANTI AMERICAN TYPE OF PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE, AND SMART PEOPLE KNOW IT. STAY IN THERE AND FIGHT, HILLARY! IGNORE ALL DETRACTORS.

Swalker327   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Obama's mother looks just like all the white mothers in W. Virginia. So Virginia voters that's something to think about on Mother's Day. On election day vote in your own best interest and don't let Hillary pray on your fears.

Brian Johnson   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

You know I just don't remember hearing all this when out 100% of black votes in NC 92% voted for Obama and 8% voted for Hillary. I guess you Obama supporters can make an excuse here to make it different though. Same thing when Hillary says something about him she is negative but when she is Auntie Oakley it's not negative it is funny.

Isaac   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

I am so over Obama supporters. First of all, you do realize that your candidate will need us Clinton supporters in the fall, right? We make up 49% of the Democratic Party. Second of all, I just don't get all the bashing if everyone is so certain he is the nominee. It's 3 weeks left of primaries, let everyone have a vote for crying out loud.

Besides, I just don't think it would look so hot if she bowed out now and then he proceeded to lose WV, KY and PR to someone that was not in the race. She is doing him a favor, trust me.

Blue Collar   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

JOHANNES   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Nate   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

For anyone who says that blacks are voting by race are a little ignorant. When Bill Clinton ran for office in 1996 he got nearly 90% of the African Amercian Vote- Additionally, if Barack Obama was a republican he'd be getting less than half the vote. When Obama first started his campaign the majority of African American voters were Clinton supporters. Once they got to understand his persona and policies and to a large part his viability as a candidate they rallied around him.

Pay attention to history- you can call it a double standard or racism but it's more about symbolism. It's hugely symbolic for an African American in a country that has a legacy of slavery and discrimination to be elected President- It puts those issues squarely in the past. White people understand this too. Finally there's a bit of psychology involved. When you're outnumbered, smaller, a minority or the underdog you tend to rally around what you consider to be your own. The "minority" psychology" isn't defined by race but can be.

James   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Go Hillary. I still believe you are our next president. Lets keep the terroist out of the whitehouse. Obama is the antichrist.

Jeff in Portland   May 9th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

Simple math problem …

# of superdelegates Obama has won in the last 4 hours is greater than any net gain of delegates Clinton gets from winning West Virginia

Mark   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

It is a very sad time for us democrats. HRC can’t win the nomination and BHO can’t win the general election. On the bright side, John McCain is an honorable man and well respected by people from both parties. He will be much, much better President than Bush. For the first time in this liberal democrat’s life, I will vote Republican and be happy to do so.

Shelly from WI   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Ummm people, that's a big lead. i dunno :/ it's kindof a big gap to me. I hope Barack doesn't forget the people of WV. People in these later states need time to heal and time to prepare themselves for the fact that maybe their candidate would not be President. And that's a tuff thing to do.

But anyhow, as the superdelegates roll in for 08AMA, it's harder to get these pantsuits sold…..the auction has began for the sale of pantsuits to help my candidate's campaign, i'll drop the price from $2300 to $5 a piece….going going…

Chris Carter   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Obama Mama   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

But W.V. is full of "hard-working, WHITE voters". Hil-LIAR-y said it herself. I am white and I am offended at her comments which sure didn't do much for the hard-working African American, hispanics, and Asians we have in the US.

Bow out gracefully Ms. Clinton….while you still have a chance to make a difference in the world. The longer this goes on, the less people, including your own colleagues, will like you.

Ok   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Hilary, fed by media coverage, will crow about this till the cows come home but it won't change the outcome. America is moving forward and the Clintons are stuck in the 90's and before.

I can't stand that woman. She needs to stop saying the rest of American w/women (especially older w/women) won't support Barack Obama. I am one and I am solidly behind this young man. Clinton triangulation divided the party already but let's please not go back to the '60 racial divide in this country. Many of us are so over those days that it literally makes me sick to listen to her at all.

Shelly from WI   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Maybe Hillary should run for Gov of West Virginia since poor hard working whites are the only people voting for her.

D

Peter Damoah-Afari   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Who does not know that she is going to win in West Virginia? How many delegates and popular votes are at stake? Even if she wins all the delegates there, she cannot beat Obama. Common sense and simple mathematics do not work in her favour. So, the question is why would West Virginia follow the corpse to the grave?

GO HILL!   May 9th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Hillary Clinton would have made one hell of a great President…..too bad the media made the Clintons out to be racists so she lost the African American's support…..too bad the DNC could not even support this family that has given their entire lives to public service and to the Democratic Party, too bad the Dems Primary system is flawed and gives caucus states soooo much control where only 2-3% of the population gets their votes counted, and too bad Democratic voters could not have supported this family that has given us the ONLY SUCCESSFUL DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENCY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL DECADES changing deficit to surplus and adding 22 million new jobs…..it's really too bad, she's such a bright, intelligent, hard-working person…..
good luck in the fall, DNC…

I would like to say this for all the Hillary racist people. Now if Obama wins the election, you'll don't have to vote for him. Now if HIllary wins and the black people say they want vote for her and there are more blacks then white, then that is telling you'll that Hillary need the black votes as well as the white votes. Race should not matter, and for all you black senators, congress people and etc. who stands besides Hillary is no better than she is to have a candidate speak like that about race in such a proud tone. Shame on you Hillary.

Hillary my vote is one less for you. You and Bill really surprise the people in South Carolina.

so when a state that is 95% white votes for a white person in droves and Clintonites say they will rather vote for a guy [McCain] with opposite views than their original choice before voting for a guy who is very similar to their original choice (except for skin color)…it really raises some questions.

So how come when predominately black areas vote for a black candidate it is looked at as shameful? But when whites vote for a white candidate nobody bats an eye. Please spare me.

Margeaux   May 9th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

I don't get it. If the particular state doesn't support Obama they are, "uneducated, all related, and shooting from pickup trucks". Now why would I want to support a candidate whose supporters think like that. I thought OB and you where above the negative comments. Apparently not.

Obama has the right spirit, candor, guts and know how of what direction this country has to move in and get back to forieng negotiations to bring about a harmony with our alies and neighbors. we need a fresh new start because the bush's, cheney's, and condies have jack this country up and has made millions on the backs of this country with fear. Hillary = HD-DVD

BJ   May 9th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

The math is simple,we all obama supporters knows that hillary is going to win, west virginia, and kentucky .it is not asurprise for us.But remember obama is going to win oregon, montana and all the rest.
even if she win all the WV 28 delegates and all kentucky delegates, still she cant come close to obama.so who cares if she leading WV by 100% we obama supporters we know the math is already done and obama is the dem nominee.
obama o8

let me be absolutely clear here   May 9th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

Simply the best.

Write Hillary Clinton in in Nov- request an absentee ballot.

No need to settle for Obama or McCain.

I will vote for McCain or write in Hillary Clinton…..you bloggers who support BO are dreadfully negative and just plain nasty…….you don't seem to jive with his "movement"…..Kerry "04….here we go again…will the far left EVER learn??????? :)

Bill & Hillary appear to have graduated from W's school for alternate realities. It's sad, really.

Go Obama!!!!

Jim   May 9th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

As John Edwards stated earlier today "It is tough for her to make the math work!!" With her comments yesterday about white voters is anyone surprised about the lead in West Virginia??
It is over Hillary. Stop, please!
Jim

Brooke   May 9th, 2008 3:22 pm ET

I've seen and heard the Obama fanatics attack Bill and Hillary but now they seem to be attacking the voters who are supporting her. For everyone who is attacking West Virginians, why aren't they as entitled to their opinion as you are? Why are they deserving of scorn because they don't support your candidate? This worries me, a lot, because I can see this happening during an Obama regime, people who disagree will be verbally attacked and smeared for having the Audacity to disagree with his version of Hope and Change.

Let give Hillary the benefit of the benefit of the benefit of the benefit of the benefit of the doubt…..She deserves that!!!! Lets face it she is white

We white people

Alex   May 9th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

It is a shame for Clinton to campaign based on race. I guess she has nothing left to say. Some people are brave and they face the inevitable with grace and their dignity in place. Hillary chose to divide the party on racial lines. She is not doing herself any good as it will even turn off reasonable while people. She is calling the white people who are voting for her as uneducated and that is insult. It also shows that she can say anything to get elected.

Steve New Jersey   May 9th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Oh, watch out everyone! Hillary may take 20 delegates, and what will that do!!!! Her game is over and she is in denial, Obama is gonna make that and be the nominee.

Karen   May 9th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Hillary, if you're not on the ballot — I will be writing you in.

Open your eyes   May 9th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

Obama will be the nominee, but he better be very careful before writing off WV and KY, just because she is expected to win. I promise you a lot of the states he won in the primary/caucuses will be republican in Nov, so he better at least make an effort to hold onto states that may vote Democrat historically.

Let's move on to her exit concession speech shall we?

Exactly what percentage of WV is non-white??? This is a no-brainer, given all of the race-baiting by the Clinton camp. I wish people would stop and realize that the demographics vary state-by-state.

I certainly hope people remember the disgraceful legacy of the Clintons in future elections.

D.Kimbro OHIO   May 9th, 2008 3:20 pm ET

Great she has pandered to them enough. Since when has WVA had so much importance. Take the 20 something delegates and run. I am real impressed, that only leaves you 100 and something behind. By the way if your in WVA who is watching your superdelegates???

tom   May 9th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

If Hillary does not get the nod she should run as a Independent. She would beat Obambi in the general and McSame also. She would surely carry the large states.

Sue, Bloomington, IN   May 9th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

The only thing a big win in WV will do for Clinton is feed her selfish, delusional play for power. If she cared about the country she would do what so many patriotic politicians in her situation have done before her, drop out and support the winner. Our politicians willingness to put country before self is one of the things that has always made our democracy so strong.

People of WV. I challenge you to overcome racial divides and lies and vote for OBAMA. Hillary is not the nominee so don't waste your votes. This is exactly what the republicans want so let's end this.

FreedomFromFear-Florida   May 9th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

I talk to many people in other countries… They are holding their breath too. We lost untold support since 2000. Our hopes, dreams and fears are like others around the world. Many fear the arrogance and outrageous personality of Clintons may further damage the world. Many had all but lost hope. Now, there is pretty much silence. Daring to hope in other countries is still not evident. This time, the fear is, will the Clintons be able to manipulate the race for the presidency like Bush and supreme court did? Where are the people that put Bush in again (2004) when it was all too evident that Bush was dangerous to the world? They believe that the Clintons are capable of similar if not worse tyranny. Some here FEAR that McCain’s running mate will be Jeb Bush! …I hold on to "YES WE CAN." I am so proud of all my brothers and sisters. I had a twinkle of hope in the beginning, then I decided to be brave for all of U.S. for my daughter's sake. So proud of America…

laura, CA   May 9th, 2008 3:17 pm ET

WV matters beyond the primary. Someone above says she'll only get 15 delegates.
Not true, if she gets over 2/3 the vote she gets 2/3 the delegates. That's the dem primary rule.
Above people were saying big deal she was set to win there anyway. But they probably weren't saying big deal about NC since Obama was set to win there.
I've noticed a lot of Obama fans are young idiots or naive professionals out of touch with moderate dems.

Clinton has been getting the Reagan Dems (some do live in WV) all over this primary, and Dems really need that block to be sure to win in November.

Democract   May 9th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Keep going Hillary! Who cares if you lose those spineless men that are jumping ship. You don't need them. A true supporter will stand behind you no matter what. Obama supporters are blind and can't see that he is fooling them, they have adopted hate. Lets see what their reaction will be when he loses the general election. Maybe Americans should start reading the bible. They might learn something. There will always be war and rumors of war. Start reading Mathew Chapter 24 and compare it to what is happening today.

Hillary 2008

Hillary Supporter   May 9th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Hillary is the favorite without a doubt. Its because of the way the democratic party sets up the rules for dividing the delegates that she is not in the lead. Another stupid blunder on the DNC's part. Michigan and Flordia being left out is one more blunder by the DNC. Obama is NOT

John   May 9th, 2008 3:14 pm ET

As it should be!! Clinton is still the strongest candidate of them all. Can anyone explain why North Carolina was so blind? Why should their mistake impact all the rest of us? Hillary has rebounded from this before, and I'm sure she will again!

Kevin   May 9th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

marvin   May 9th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

All the comments about WV are quite offensive, and I'm from the midwest. To group them all as related or white or bigoted is pretty sad. We could say the same thing about areas heavily populated with blacks and how that turns out for Obama. There is absolutely no comparison, 92% of blacks vote for Obama, now that is racist.

jd   May 9th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Why are all you Obama supporters so hateful????
Go Hillary

Canadian   May 9th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Give the people of West Virginia a little more credit than that. They are not all racists and after listening to both Hillary and Barat they will relize the Barat should be president.

I believe they are not as racist as many people think. However we will see next Tuesday.

bill   May 9th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

yup. they don't seem enjoy the darker skinned people in WVA … is this margin a surprise?

WRITE IN HILLARY   May 9th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Since the Superdelegates have decided to cave under pressure and back the popular candidate rather than the stronger candidate I will just have to write in Hillary's name. I hope other Hillary supporters will do the same. Lets see if he can win the white house with only the votes of the Obamabots

CW4Barak   May 9th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I think she will win the state only with a margin of about 15%…no more, even though Obama has not made any efforts to attend a town hall or rally there, her final margin will still not be bigger!!

Khara   May 9th, 2008 3:08 pm ET

I'm so tired of this anti-WV stuff. It's an ignorant perception. Living in NYC I've encountered WAY more racism. And FYI Deliverance wasn't set in WV.

M Philllips   May 9th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

It is hard not to succeed when you are running without a real opponent. A win in West Virginia will not change her fate but it could cause more trouble for the democratic party.

Some of you people are so ugly, racist remarks work for some but not for all, I wonder if the situation was different and Senator Obama was losing some of you would be saying it was because he is 1/2 African American, get over it and get a life. Go Hillary, I hope you fight till the end.

Obama cannot win the general election, period. The one fact that the Obamatrons can't accept. Proportional (Democratic primaries) vs. Winner Take All (Electoral College). Hello, people!!!!!

Ann   May 9th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

You know, the Obama supporters are just amazing. They talk about change. They talk about how nasty Hillary is and then all they do is make fun of Hillary, her supporters, and the state she's doing well in. Don't think about the fact that in order for him to win in November, Obama is going to need the votes from states like West Virginia. Oh, that's right, since he doesn't need these votes RIGHT NOW, let's just make fun of the voters there and then love 'em up come the general election campaign time. Yeah, I see the "change".

Alexandra   May 9th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

Hillary is like the last great American Hero. In the middle of all the bad politics, all the bias news, all the troubled stressful times, she remains genuine and unbending. She wants to help those in need and she will not give up until the mission is over. Like a good super hero she fights for the fabric of the American people. God Speed ahead Hillary,

Bukky   May 9th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

It is amazing how petty Obama supporters are. Their taunting is why many Hillary supporters will vote for McCain in November.

Anonymous   May 9th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

What about Michigan and Florida? I don't think it is fair to leave out these states. If their vote doesn't count now, why would they want to participate in the fall. Regardless of the outcome, they still need to be counted – it's the right of the American people. Or is there not anyone who cares if the government continues to steal our rights? Stand up, shout out, let's take back our government before it is to late!

Sig, Los Angeles CA   May 9th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Anonymous   May 9th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Sad to say it but this campaign will ultimately be about race. The race card will be played before Election Day. A lot. Obama is ahead of his time. It's too bad his country can't match him; his thinking, his vision of how America fits into the global scheme for the 21st century and, moreover, how he's the MOST capable to lead that effort. He gets it. His countrymen don't. At least not yet. The world still holds out hope…

G from the ATL   May 9th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

I see her point . I mean Barack was obviously only won because of the large population of black people in , New Hampsire, Alaska, Idaho, Delaware, Colorado, Kansas , Minnasota……………

Anthony   May 9th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

How is this news?

West Virginia is, and always will be, backwards. Perhaps she'll hold a victory speech on the back of a pickup at a Klan rally.

Mike   May 9th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Hillary dont give up. The Obamabots are going to get a rude awakening on some facts they will no longer be able to ignore.

Robert from Washington   May 9th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Yes, Hillary holds a commanding lead there, but a victory there won't change the math. She has grit, fierce determination and an unbreakable will to win, but the stars in their courses have marched against her. It's over. The news media need to stop milking this.

ELM   May 9th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Obama has already conceded WV–he keeps saying so in Oregon. I think after PA he knows he can't win over the back woods whites, and why should he try? WV has a very small population.

He's going to focus on the remaining larger, more liberal states.

Annnnnnnnnd we've known she was going to take W. Virginia for weeks. Don't tell me you buy her "whoever's going to win the presidency needs to win this state" argument. Because then I'm going to ask how "whoever wins the big states wins the presidency" and "whoever wins the red states wins the presidency" works with that. Or I guess I could just use the regular old "whoever wins the most wins the nomination", but Hillary doesn't accept that one.

Tera   May 9th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Good for her! I still think that she can stay in as long as she wants. It looks pretty clear though that Sen. Obama will get the nomination. She's run a tough campaign and you have to respect that. silence do good   May 9th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

From the Ozombie handbook: The big lead is due to:
- racism
- Rush
- Republicans
- racism
- the media
- Hillary (I agree with this one)
- racism
- space aliens

Say no to the real racism, antisemitism, elitism, big lobbies and vote manipulation.
Go Hillary!

spencer   May 9th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

How would you Blacks feel if all the white people voted race………….?

My .02   May 9th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

What the people of WV should be doing, is working to educate themselves on the issues, and not the color of someone's skin.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   May 9th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Oh Lord, I can already hear Hillary claiming how this represents her being the best candidate. Meanwhile, they are counting pennies to pay staffers and their bills. I would love to see Barack close this gap some before Tuesday!!!

David Goldman for OBAMA   May 9th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

THE FOLKS IN WEST VIRGINIA WILL GET TO KNOW HER,

& DO WHAT OTHER STATES DID. THE LONGER SHE IS

THERE THE LOWER HER MARGIN WILL GET, GUARANTEED.

Diane M   May 9th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

After further review,Texas   May 9th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Is she telling about her moonshine making ability and huntin deer from the back of a pickup truck?

soy   May 9th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

she can have the whole state. Who cares???

young, gifted and black   May 9th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

Well that's great… Clinton and Obama will most likely split the remaining contests… that should make her feel good about her campaign. No more negativity Democrats let's UNITE and DEFEAT McCain in November. We have to put our personally biases to the side and consider the state that America is in right now… we CAN'T have a 3rd Bush term and that is what we would get with McCain…

DEMOCRATS UNITED FOR OBAMA 08

spencer   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Keep going Hillary……….You are the best candidate, by far….Biased Cnn…………………………

Kiah   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Well how surprising is that. I guess the road to the White House does go through WV and their 28 delegates. Is she now an advocate for "small states" Gee I wonder why…

SHU from AL   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

I'm so glad the bigoted WVs dont' represent the rest of this wonderful country.

PL   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Well of course she holds a 60% lead in WV, their all related to one another over there…

Ostriches burying our heads in the sand   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

Of course she does! She was always a favorite to win WV……That does not change the reality of the race though….Even with a WV blowout she cannot catch up with him..

AKRON, OHIO OBOMA SUPPORTER   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

josh nyc   May 9th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

VoteforAmerica   May 9th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

Hey..ignore the polls. In fact just ignore the WV itself. Its almost 95% white. But you must take into account Iowa, Idaho, etc.

Divanto   May 9th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

She can take the entire state for all we care.

b black   May 9th, 2008 2:48 pm ET
