GRAFTON, West Virginia (CNN) – While opponents Barack Obama and John McCain took Mother’s Day off, Hillary Clinton hit the trail in rainy West Virginia with daughter Chelsea. They celebrated the holiday with a morning church service in Huntington before flying east to visit the home of Mother’s Day's founder – Anna Jarvis – and to give a speech commemorating the day.

“Judging from the mothers that I meet across the country, I’ve come to believe that hard work, determination and resiliency are encoded in our DNA,” Clinton told a small gathering at a railroad museum. “We also have the stand-up-and-fight-for-what-you-believe-in gene.”

Sunday marked Grafton’s 100th celebration of the holiday and despite Clinton’s tribute to mothers and women in general, Tuesday’s primary and her struggle to stay in the race were not forgotten.

“In two days, the voters in West Virginia will join the tens of millions of Americans who have already cast their vote for president,” said Clinton. “I am asking for your support so that I can continue to fight for you, fight to finish the work that we have started.”

Clinton read her supporters several emails she has received in recent days, encouraging her to say in the race. One read, “It’s not over until the lady in the pantsuit says it is!”

On Saturday, Clinton told donors at a Mother’s Day-themed fundraiser in New York, “Let’s keep going, stay with me, this is a great adventure!”

Clinton will continue to campaign in West Virginia on Monday and Tuesday and is expected to win the state handedly.

INDEPENDENT WOMAN 08   May 11th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Stop the spinning, lady. You are not a hardworking mother. You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and married a guy, who has supported you all your life. And lately, you've been pimping your daughter to the highest bettor. Shut up and go back to your million dollar mansion in NY and leave us our mortals alone.

JRC   May 11th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Maybe she should have spent Mother's Day with her mother…….

Brandon in Indiana   May 11th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

"despite Clinton’s tribute to mothers and women in general, Tuesday’s primary and her struggle to stay in the race were not forgotten."

Surely not forgotten by Clinton. But judging by the lack of comments, it seems that enthusiasm for the Clinton campaign is slowly dying as all but the diehards are embracing the inevitable.

Desmond Sequeira   May 11th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

Mrs Clinton,

If you had run a more decent and graceful campaign, your motherhood and womanly and human claims would have had more credibility.

I am sure you have disappointed a lot of mothers and women and humans, including me.

yan oei   May 11th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

please do not drop out. As you said….Rocky Balboa did not give up…..fight to the end! I want you to answer that 3:00 am phone call! I am ready to vote and and I will vote for you.

TP17   May 11th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Stay in Hillary. You're the best candidate in the race. Obama has no chance of beating McCain. First Tony Rezko, then Reverend Wright, then Wiliam Ayers. Who knows what skeleton will come out of Obama's closet next.

Go hillary, its not over until that fat lady sings, "Hail to the Chief" LOL

Mena   May 11th, 2008 9:30 pm ET

I don't support Hillary, but what I don't get is why she's choosing to campaign in a state she's already going to easily carry. People are already counting her out (me too) but, if she wants to show that she should still be seriously considered a threat or the nomination is still a competition (which it is not). She should be campaigning in Oregan- a state that is expected to go Obama's way.

This is unfortunately an example of a 'good' candidate in a bad campaign.

Obama '08

fred   May 11th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

Happy Mother's Day Hillary!!!

Hope you had a great one!!

Boy won't it be nice next year we will have a Mother as President!!!

If not Hillary…then McCain!!

Run Independent Hillary!!

WHY??   May 11th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Why campaign when you already know that one of the most racist populations will not vote for a Black man. Show some dignity and reject that. Oh , but you will accept any path to the presidency. Too bad for you it is too late. No matter what the dumb old white folks in WV say you cant catch OBAMA in pledged votes. And if you steal the nomination via the superdelegates, you cant win the general without African Americans, whom you will lose because they recoginize that you were willing to sacrifice your relationship with them in order to get the white racist vote.

I am not saying that all white hillary supporter are racist, but we all know that there is a pocket of them who are.

hillary 08:   May 11th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

we love you Hillary!
we're with you all the way!

CA Chris   May 11th, 2008 9:19 pm ET

My dad is from grafton. I have visited. Talk about a bunch of stupid, fat, racist, backwards hillbillies! And those grafton folks are the elite of WV!! I'd hate to see what the mountain folk are like. Who cares which way they vote this primary? It's a hopelessly red state with only a handful of electors..

b   May 11th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Her irrationality is scary.

austbill   May 11th, 2008 9:15 pm ET

I wish people would quit all but burying Hillary, she is alive and well and hanging in there.

yns   May 11th, 2008 9:15 pm ET

Thank you so much, Hillary! You are awesome and I would be proud to have you as the President of the United States of America!

austbill   May 11th, 2008 9:14 pm ET

It is a true statement, "it is not over until the lady in the pantsuit says that it is over." I feel that Hillary is living proof a a person getting knocked down and then instantly returning to her feet. I will continue to believe in Hillary and pray that she hangs in there, until the bitter end. Afterall, I would not have much faith in Hillary if she were to simply give-up. She has no real reason to give up, it is too close for anyone to call a winner and there are other issues at hand that still need to be dealt with as well. The Demorcratic nominee could still be either Clinton or Obama.

Go Hillary!!!!

Susan Missouri   May 11th, 2008 9:14 pm ET

Hillary will spend next Mother's day in the White House!!

Hillary 08!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to get on the "Sign in Hillary" Bandwagon!   May 11th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

OK, CNN, there is NO other comment here — so have the balls to add mine: I will NEVER vote for Obama. And rather than vote for McCain, I will write in HIllary Clinton's name on the November ballot if the DNC tries to shove Obama down my throat.

Time to get on the "Sign in Hillary" Bandwagon!   May 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

I will NEVER, EVER vote for Obama. Folks, it's time to consider writing Hillary's name on the November ballot if they try to shove Obama down our throats.

After further review,Texas   May 11th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Did she put on her pandering southern twang accent for the crowd. She she tell them Coal is King and will make a comeback and they will all be rich like her someday.West Virginia dont be fooled by the woman behind the curtain. The first thing to go will be your guns. This woman is a born Globalist and thats what is really in her DNA.

You go, Hillary!   May 11th, 2008 9:08 pm ET

And I will continue to send you my contributions. And if that doesn't help and they try to shove OBama down my throat, I WILL WRITE IN YOUR NAME ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT. ANYTHING BUT OBAMA, THAT SNAKE OIL SALESMAN!

Belle   May 11th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

Senator Hillary R. Clinton, the first woman to be a serious candidate for President of the United States of America.

In spite of all of the Hate mail from Obama supporters, I honor you as a woman for your courage and your constant grace under fire from not only the media, Senators and Representatives supporting Obama, Obama's person derogatory comments, his supporters derogatory comments, and the moxie you have had during this campaign.

Happy Mother's Day!

Independent99999   May 11th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

What is this lady cooking .. A sinister is on her plans. Will she go down in the history as someone who crucified the Dem Party and Clintons name (on whatever is still left).

Glenn   May 11th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

Why aren't Hillary's supporters helping her with her finances and donating money to her campaign? I hear the fat lady singing "Obama 08 and 12."

Independent   May 11th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Anybody watch the stupid youtube aid showing Chelsea and Hillary. While I am sure she loves her mother, this sounded so rehearsed and phoney. It ended with Chelsea saying that her mother raised her to believe that even she could be they 2nd female President in history! It is really pitiful!

Dan (TX)   May 11th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

Hillary didn't give a hoot about West Virginia until she realized that it was coal dust on their faces! :)

Brian   May 11th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

She should have respected mother's by taking the day off.

Susan MO   May 11th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

Why are some of my fellow Obama's supporter so mean and angry. Stop clinging to your computer with antipathy for Hillary.

We have won be nice. Remember she is still pretending to be a democrat and her husband was a great President.

Obama is not about hate. He is a uniter

Who cares

anonymous   May 11th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

CNN never posts my comments so I don't expect to see this one.
I honestly have tremendous sympathy for Mrs. Clinton. I feel that against any other opponent she would have succeeded dramatically, and she is losing to a candidate who has inspiration, but not enough experience or decision making to capture the presidency. It's depressing.

Monica, Texas   May 11th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Hillary is sending the wrong message to our daughters…It is alright to take a day off. She appears to be out of control and not have balance in her life. She is not a "fighter" but obsessed.

J.Onofre -CA   May 11th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

She will win West Virginia but it wont put a dent at all in Obama's overall delegate count.

Brenda Woodsmall   May 11th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

Keep going Hillary. This country needs you in the White House unfortunately the ones not on your side seem to be the ones who have been MESMERIZED by Obama. I believe in you, and know you are what this country needs now more than ever.

gerald strother   May 11th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

Crystal Strait, 28, became the 273rd superdelegate in Obama's column .“It’s not over until the lady in the pantsuit says it is!” this should say it is not over until the superdleagte in the pantsuit say it ! is over and they have done so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and more is comeing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lynn D   May 11th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Senator Clinton is a wonderful mom and she will be a great president.

White female voter   May 11th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Hillary is not my idea of a good mom. Didn't she teach Chelsea that it is ok to lie as she did blatantly in her account of their Bosnia trip. That incident alone reflects poorly on the character of both these women.

lorraine   May 11th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Hillary, you got what it takes to be the President and hopefully the people who have not yet voted will decide to do something about helping you get to the Oval office, too many times some of us let others do the work and sit back and complain BUT now is the time for the Hillary supporters to make it their business to go out and vote and take everyone you know who is eligible to vote with you, lets show Hillary that her non stop work is going to be rewarded with a win. Vote Hillary

francisco   May 11th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Happy mothers day to every mother out there , as much as I hate Hillary politically I do believe she has every right to stay on the race until there is a clear winner, however I believe it is good for democrat to rally Sen Obama now because there is a lot at stake we can not afford another four years of Bush failed policies

Interesting   May 11th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

I've never despised and admired some one so much. Unfortunately her timing was all wrong. If she had taken the race this seriously from the start, she would be the nominee.

Dilly WA   May 11th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

So Mom, did you take your only child into a war zone under sniper fire, or did you have her lie for you that ther was sniper fire. I"m not impressed.

"We have the stand up and fight for what you believe in gene"….I think
what she really should say is she has the "I dont know what the hell
I'm talking about and I don't know how to run a campaign gene"….
It was irritating at first, then it became funny…but now it has gotten to the point that she is just pathetic! Would somebody please tell her
it is over! It reminds me of Micheal Jackson…no real friends around
to say ….hey you are screwing up!

Allison Marie   May 11th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

I am always amazed at Hillary's strength, she's so inspiring.

You bet Senator Clinton that I will stay with you and support you all the way to the White House. Come on voters out there. Let's support Hillary so she can fight John McCain. No more Bush administration. The only person who is capable of running John McCain is Hillary. If Senator Obama becomes the nominee, our country will really be in dire straits. HILLARY CLINTON ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!

white woman for Obama   May 11th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

I think there is such a thing as too ambitious, and Hillary is way too ambitious. She should be with her mom and daughter, taking time out to celebrate motherhood with the people wjho matter most in her life. Hillary needs to chill when it comes to winning. She is so set on being the first woman president, she will do whatever it takes. Not for the people, but for herself and her hunger for power. I think her sense of entitlement is much too strong and has got her going at it even now as we wrap things up and almost announce Obama as nominee. Hillary, family comes before business.

On Saturday, Clinton told donors at a Mother’s Day-themed fundraiser in New York, “Let’s keep going, stay with me, this is a great adventure!”

This is not an adventure.
This campaign is about lives of the American people as she said many, many times before.
We have more important things to do than having her as our tour guide of the negativity land.
