Obama open to joining McCain on trail

Sen. Barack Obama speaks to reporters in Bend, Oregon, Saturday.
Sen. Barack Obama speaks to reporters in Bend, Oregon, Saturday.

BEND, Oregon (CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama said Saturday that if he were to become the Democratic nominee, holding joint town hall-style campaign events with Republican Sen. John McCain would be a "great idea."

"Obviously, we would have to think through the logistics on that," Obama continued. "But ... if I have the opportunity to debate substantive issues before the voters with John McCain, that's something that I am going to welcome."

Recently, advisors to the all-but-certain GOP nominee have said the Arizona senator is open to the idea, and his campaign has touted the fact that he and Democrat Bill Bradley held joint campaign events when the two ran for the presidential nomination in 1999.

“John McCain has repeatedly encouraged these types of appearances with his opponents in the past," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

"But in order to extend all due respect to Sen. Clinton, we will look forward to welcoming the arrangements when the Democrats have actually chosen their nominee," Bounds added.

I think the town-hall-style debates would be valuable to all, excepting of course the candidate who gets the worst of them.

As to why Obama is more willing to debate McCain than Hillary, it might well have to do with the fact that his debating McCain would indeed be just that - a debate rather than the sort of dirt-fest Hillary would once again guarantee.

Truly, there's no talking to the woman scorned!

Obama if you can control your supporter, Please advise them that this would be a great time for all of them to be slient as Hillary completes her promise to the America People that she would be in all states until June 3.

Hillary has tried to explain why she is still in this race. She believes in herself to be the best President as many of her follower do. Please realize that Hillary knows exactly what is going in this presidental nomination now and since the process began . She knows who has betrayed her and why and so does the American People. Hillary is a lady America Patriot I love her for the love she has protrayed for our country even when so much negative conversation was taking place
in the American theather again her by the people she most expected to support her. Even I feel let down by The Democrat Machine and I don't feel that I will be able to support Democrat ticket in November.

Poppi, please already. How can Senator Obama expect to have a debate with substance when he has NONE. He will probably turn this debate with McCain down. He can't answer tough questions. All he does is stumble and stutter. The debates with Hillary Clinton were fantastic because she can handle the tough questions and does have solutions to run our country. Hillary Clinton is Presidential. Obama IS NOT. He always gets his ideas off others right after they have stated it and cannot come up with anything on his own in a short amount of time. He might actually have to use his brain and think. What a concept. I will still support Hillary Clinton all the way to the White House. GO HILLARY 08!!!

Hillary or McCain, it does not make any difference. One is desperate and the other is too old. Additionally, neither one can be trusted. Lies and lies and flip flopping.

    LOL!!!

Those of you writing that WITCHES name down in NOV or encouraging her to go Independent WHO do you think will fund her campaign? You haven't this far, that WITCH is 100MM in DEBT! :o The Witch is dead broke! :D

Encourage her and her Super delegates to go Independent and WATCH them all lose their seats in November! :o

    LOL!!!

THINK for once in your life.

ALL of them will lose their seats in Congress.... hey, maybe that's a good idea after all. Maybe we can get some real democrats with good intentions in Washington and really clean house. Never mind, go forward with your plan :D I need to make a few phone calls for Senate Democratic Candidates across our great Nation. :D

Personally, I still don't quite see how "losing his bearings" was an attack on McCain's age. In context, it sounded much more like he was implying that McCain is losing his mind and is out of touch for suggesting that Barack is connected with Hezbollah.

Overall, this is annoying partisan bickering.

I will be VERY surprised if there is more than 4 debates between them. No offense but I think Senator McCain will have a VERY DIFFICULT time trying to defend the state of the economy and how he plans to address it.

And lets not forget the MESS over in the Middle East...I really doubt if he will be very convincing when it comes to what we should do next over there. Additionally, one of the STUPIDEST things I have ever heard in the last 8 years is, "Talking to your enemies makes them stronger??" You either have to be on drugs or have an ego the size of the planet to believe such a thing. This is a BUSHism and it is pretty darn STUPID!!

Here is another one for you to think about.

    Obama said,
"We need to talk with not only contries we LIKE but with countries we don't LIKE..." (I think that's what I heard).

This kind of phrase he often use is misleading in this very complex world we now live in. It's a lot more complicated than that, want to be a president. Perhaps between religious and political leaders in the battle field regions or world where Obama knows think like that. We can't afford to have world leader who is so out of touch in everything.

If Hillary ran as a third party candidate, would her running mate be Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly?

I think all those supporting an independant run for Hillary or a write-in campagn should consider two things. First, the Clinton legacy will forever be the great harm Bill and Hillary cause to the Democratic Party. Second, after she loses and puts McCain in the White House, a liberal third party candidacy here in New York will finish off her political career. What comes around, goes around.

It would be very nice if Senator Clinton, her campaign, and her supporters could wrap this thing up with at least a small of their (your) dignity in tact.

Do all remember about the smoke filled back room, well gues who is in there. It's not Hillary Clinton.
But the superdelegate are in there and Obama and his gang are there also. I didn't feel the earthquake that was being predicted when the gathering took place, but I have figured it all out. The quake was only to happen if Hillary was in the smoke filled back room with her gang. Is this a two faced policy taking place? OH YES

It sounds to me like a lot of Obama's supporters weren't raised properly. I just wonder if a lot of them had a bad childhood. Maybe their mom didn't teach them manners.
