Clinton draws parallel between her campaign, JFK's 1960 run

Hillary Clinton compared her Campaign to JFK's Monday.'

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton said again Monday that no Democratic presidential candidate can win without a victory in West Virginia - and drew a parallel between her own campaign and John Kennedy’s 1960 White House run.

“It was West Virginia that made it possible for John Kennedy to become president,” Clinton said at a Clear Fork, West Virginia campaign stop. “Now, John Kennedy didn’t have the number of delegates he needed when he went to the convention in 1960. He had something equally as important - he had West Virginia behind him, because it’s a fact that Democrats don’t get elected president unless West Virginia votes for you…”

Barack Obama may be the party’s pledged and superdelegate leader – but that status does not appear to have helped him in West Virginia, where Clinton leads by 30-40 points in recent state polls.

“So I’m here today because I know what’s really going to matter tomorrow,” said Clinton. “It’s the votes of the people of West Virginia and if you will come out and honor me with your vote I will work my heart out for you.

Clinton criticized the Democratic front-runner on his health care proposal, and his rejection of her proposed “gas tax holiday.”

“My opponent Sen. Obama says, “Oh no, that’s just a gimmick, that’s not going to help people,” said Clinton before again arguing that it will save families $70 on average and more for those with longer commutes as well as truckers.

Clinton added that West Virginia proportionately has more veterans, “more people who have served in the conflicts and in the armed forces of the United States….

“It is the hard-working, dedicated people of West Virginia who have really made America what it has been, and what it will be again.”

Concerning predatory loaning, in the Illinois State Senate, Obama called attention to predatory lending issues. Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbying the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.

I don't get it. You bring up the spectre of a McCain presidency in your first paragraph and then declare you will help ensure that will happen in the next paragraph. You want a candidate that beat McCain, but if that candidate is not Clinton you will help McCain win. And, because you declared you are a Dem and not indie at this time I find your stance even harder to understand. Please help me out here.
I can't stand Clinton. I find her repugnant. I would prefer her over four more years of Bush (aka McCain). Think about the Supreme Court .

God bless America. Where else could the terminally delusional be given such a powerful forum? Saying that Hillary Clinton is qualified to be president because of her experience as first lady is like saying my uncle Max is qualified to be governor of Wisconsin because he eats a lot of cheese. Throughout the campaign, Barack Obama has proven to be a far better team builder and strategist than Mrs. Clinton - essential qualities for any leader smart enough to know they can't go it alone. Hillary's arrogance would doom her from day one. Can you imagine her following the advice of someone whose lips weren't permanently welded to her backside? Neither can I.

Did she mention she once stopped at a West Virginia McDonalds which–in her mind–makes West Virginia her latest "home state"?

Attention all Hillary supporters: Hillary started this campaign as the presumtive nominee. Why is she losing super delegates and why is her campaign $20 million in debt? Is this a reflection of her leadership, judgement and "35 years of experience"?

Face it folks, she wants your contributions to recoup her losses. Would you give money to a gambler losing at the tables? Hide your checkbooks!

  13. Believe it

This has to be the dumbest comment I've read all year. Clinton and her supporters are stupid. These dummies are voting for Clinton based on gender or a notion that Mr. Clinton years will come back. Name anything that this woman has accomplished? Nothing – I thought not. Then they claim they are voting on the issues but of course you know they are lying. If Clinton supporters were voting on issues and Obama and Clinton have basically the same policies then there would be no talk of voting for McCain. How stupid! I would love to see you pathetic people suffer for 8 more years. Then I hear these dumb people say they are not voting for him because of his supporters. Yes it is as dumb as it sounds. I'm sure nobody on this blog has ever personally met either candidate. I'm sure no one on this blog can call either candidate on the phone at this present time, so who cares about letting someone else dictate how you feel about someone who you both don't know. How stupid can you be? Then I hear the experience comment and that is stupid as well. Obama has been in an elected official longer then Clinton.

I laugh at all you dumb Democrats – you guys are going to lose an election that you were suppose to win. Again youhave been outsmart by the Republicans. Hahaha – dummies. Dumb Bush outsmart Hillary and you want her for President.

Go ahead and continue buying high gas dummies, you are only making me richer...

I thought Hillary loved Black people. Instead she is acting with jealousy and devisive remarks.
I believe this is a test for the Clintons to see if they are going to let the first African American candidate win the White house. Let Senator Barack run against McCain and see what happens.
Please Hillary do not destroy this party.

What a crock, she talks about change but goes back to the same old events, her judgement is like Bushes, she hangs on in a race which is over, he hangs on to a war which is deteriorating. I will not vote for a Washington dependent republican dressed in democratic clothing.

That's all right Sharon at 4:31 p.m....I registered 13 people to vote this Saturday as part of Obama's Vote For Change registration drive – all filled in the DEMOCRATIC PARTY bubble on the voter reg card. So the first person I signed up, a very nice caucasian woman around 50 years old, will cancel your write-in or treasonous vote for McBush and the other 12 will help carry Obama onto victory. We don't need the bitter Hillary sock puppets who want to whine about media bias or the rules. The party is bigger and stronger than you Sharon so take your threats over to Taylor Marsh's site where there's someone who will listen to you. I would have voted for Hillary has she been the nominee because, while Obama is a better candidate than her, she is light years better than McBush. I don't see why Hillary's supporters can't see it the same way.

Obama might be the nominee thanks to DNC and the establishment
that decided long time ago to go against HILLARY and president Clinton ( American did not do so badly in His eight years term ),
but we all know who is the most qualifed candidate.

Don't give up Hillary! West Virginia and Kentucky will bring you back on track. Don't let the old gard bring you down. They are nothing but male chauvenists, such as Kennedy, Kerry, Daschle, and Richardson, the back stabber. Richardson forgot who gave him a name, which is Bill Clinton. Richardson WILL NOT bring the Hispanic vote to Obama. The name Richardson is NOT hispanic. Does Richardson even know how to speak Spanish? I bet not!

Stand with your head up high! We love you, Hillary!

Another example of Hillary exaggerating the truth. While is has been a long time since a democrat won without West Virginia, it has been done. The last time this occurred was in 1916 with Woodrow Wilson. I'd also like to note that West Virginia has been won by many years that democrats have lost. Most recently.. 1988 with Miachael Dukakis and we all know how terrible that loss was.
