Clinton draws parallel between her campaign, JFK's 1960 run

Hillary Clinton compared her Campaign to JFK's Monday.'

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton said again Monday that no Democratic presidential candidate can win without a victory in West Virginia - and drew a parallel between her own campaign and John Kennedy’s 1960 White House run.

“It was West Virginia that made it possible for John Kennedy to become president,” Clinton said at a Clear Fork, West Virginia campaign stop. “Now, John Kennedy didn’t have the number of delegates he needed when he went to the convention in 1960. He had something equally as important - he had West Virginia behind him, because it’s a fact that Democrats don’t get elected president unless West Virginia votes for you…”

Barack Obama may be the party’s pledged and superdelegate leader – but that status does not appear to have helped him in West Virginia, where Clinton leads by 30-40 points in recent state polls.

“So I’m here today because I know what’s really going to matter tomorrow,” said Clinton. “It’s the votes of the people of West Virginia and if you will come out and honor me with your vote I will work my heart out for you.

Clinton criticized the Democratic front-runner on his health care proposal, and his rejection of her proposed “gas tax holiday.”

“My opponent Sen. Obama says, “Oh no, that’s just a gimmick, that’s not going to help people,” said Clinton before again arguing that it will save families $70 on average and more for those with longer commutes as well as truckers.

Clinton added that West Virginia proportionately has more veterans, “more people who have served in the conflicts and in the armed forces of the United States….

“It is the hard-working, dedicated people of West Virginia who have really made America what it has been, and what it will be again.”

Why are you Obama supporters so hateful? Why? Oh, of course, you must have attended the same church as your leader.

I am insulted by the double standard. It's okay for your leader to compare himself to JFK and MLK but if Hillary draws any similarities she's gone mad.

    N. and Bill – NEWSFLASH – your cult leader is no JFK or MLK either. Get off your high horse. You all have lost the White House with your rabid and hateful comments. THE MOVEMENT IS ON...... Hillary supporters are working together to put McCain in.

obama supporters are showing their true spirits in their vile words and meaness, which is why no hillary supporters will help obama why should they ?the media never looked into the evidence of obama supporters tampering in the caucas in different states. they are like a bunch of unruly children using intimidations to scare off voters, cheating is what it is called.

I'm not sure what history books HIllary has been reading, but it's a fact that WV democratic primary voters have preferred winning presidential nominees (like Bill Clinton) and losing nominees (Carter in '80, Dukakis in '88). Furthermore, WV has also voted for Democratic candidates who don't get the nomination (Humphrey, Byrd).

Even if she was talking about the general election, she was wrong: Ford carried WV in '76 and lost, Carter carried WV in '80 and lost, and so did Dukakis in '88. It's clear she's just trying to make WV sound more like a bellweather than it truly is.

But the truth obviously doesn't matter anymore. Not after Bush. Wait, she's sounding more presidential every minute!

Superdelegates should not cast their vote, until all States have had their election. Then if needed, they vote...! The way it is done now, is a joke for the Democratic Party.....

Big CHANGES need to take place in the Democratic Party....! All States should vote the same day, to avoid this BIG MESS...!

We Didn't have SUPER DELEGATES when Kennedy Won the Nomination..

If Hillary Clinton gets ALL of the delegates from West Virginia and Kentucky, and 60 percent of the delegates from Puerto Rico, and 60 percent of the remaining superdelegates, and splits every other remaining state 50-50, Obama still wins the nomination. Try it on the CNN delegate counter and see.

@ Doom : That's just wrong..., but funny though.
It seems to me that Clinton is always comparing herself to someone else that has done great things, but never seems to state what she has done.
Reminds me of that woman on SNL that is always trying to 1 up the person she is talking to.... " You may have more super delegates Obama, but I have SUPER DUPER SECRET Delegates and did I mention they count double?" ehhhh, sounds like a bunch of fuzzy math to me. : )

Well, her talk about how influential West Virginia is, is good for a few laughs.

On second thought, I suppose that depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is.

    Obama Supporters:

I have posted many times saying the same thing.

Please stop hating on the blogs. It makes it hard for Hillary supporters to consider getting behind Obama's campaign if he is the nominee. And he can not win without us anymore than Hillary could win without his supporters.

Hillary is no JFK.... she doesn't offer the vision, the hope, the Trust or the fresh look that JFK offered the American people back in 1960. There's NO comparison at all!!!

If anything Hillary is more like LBJ.... A Spiteful, Deceitful, Dishonest, Lying old timer of past political corruption.

Wow!!1 These Obama supporters sure like to puff up their negative comments so their candidate does not appear to continue his negative comments. There should be a test given to qualify for running for President. The first question should be "how many states are there in this country". Mr. Obama stated on 5-9-08 in Beaverton, Oregon that he had campaigned in 57 states and had one more to visit. Hmmmmm....like a rock only dumber. Ask any third grader the same question and we may have a candidate that knows the United States of America.

Hillary Clinton cannot even begin to compare herself to President John Kennedy. John Kennedy never once tried to manipulate the people for votes. He never lied to us. He never tried to cheat his way into the White House. She is going to divide the party unless people stop voting for her .

Well, it looks like CNN is promoting sexiswm along with the Tenn rep by putting up a ticker about. This is the most divisive comment of the campaign.

GO HILLARY, SHE IS THE BETTER CANDIDATE.

HIS SUPPORTERS ARE THE MOST DIVISIVE PEOPLE IN PRESEDENTIAL HISTORY!!!
