Obama backer compares Clinton to 'Fatal Attraction' character

An Obama supporter and Tennessee congressman is comparing Clinton to Glenn Close in 'Fatal Attraction.'

(CNN) - Several of Barack Obama's supporters have publicly urged Hillary Clinton to withdraw from the presidential race, but Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen was especially blunt.

Speaking to a Memphis TV station over the weekend, Cohen compared Clinton to Glenn Close’s character in the movie "Fatal Attraction."

Close played an obsessed and mentally unstable woman who refused to end an affair with a married man, despite his repeated urgings. In the movie’s final scene, Close's character appears to have drowned in a bathtub, but re-emerged before getting fatally shot.

"Glenn Close should have stayed in that tub, and Sen. Clinton has had a remarkable career and needs to move to the next step, which is helping elect the Democratic nominee," Cohen said.

Cohen's office released an apology from the congressman soon after he made the comments.

"I sincerely apologize for the comments I made about Senator Clinton's campaign," he said in the statement. "I have great respect for Senator Clinton as a US Senator. She has waged an historic campaign which has done much to break the glass ceiling. My comments obviously do not reflect the sentiments of Senator Obama or the Obama campaign. Nor do they reflect my opinion of Senator Clinton whom I have known for years and admire. My hope is that our party will come together to work to defeat John McCain."

Cohen endorsed Obama on February 4, one day before the Super Tuesday contests.

Ok, take a deep breathe for all those who are saying his comments were sexist. They are NOT because it's his remarks are not about a man v. women...it's about this particular women who's obsession to be the President at all costs mind you...is what he's saying.

And let's not lump Obama with that Senator's comments, because I'm sure you wouldn't want us to lump some of Clinton's surrogates with your candidate – now would you?

And yes that is mean, but LOL that was funny.

All you dems who are supporting a man who says he will unify the country: How can he do this after all you haters have said all the nasty things about everyone? Don't kid yourself that the country will unify around Obama after all this hatefulness. No, not now, not ever!

This is one of the reasons why BHO WILL NEVER GET MY VOTE!! Because of the arrogance, immaturity and derogatory remarks made by his supporters throughout the campaign. On TV, editorials and blogs–all of them. Doesn't matter what level they are they are. You think we won't remember. Oh, yes we will–all of it!

Now, let's see if CNN posts this. When one speaks the truth and speaks it with maturity, CNN tends not to post it.

Shame on you CNN for this insane stupid article. It just proves how biased you really are. And this is supposed to be a news ticker story? CNN is one of Obama's main supporters and without CNN Obama would be nothing.

I'm still saying NObama in the election.

My vote will be for someone that has some sort of idea what is going on and Obama needs a little more experience and CNN needs a few unbiased writers who are not obsessed with the ObamaCult. I'm so sick of the mean comments and haters following Obama!!

Yes, while this is funny...it is wrong. People should treat each other like they want to be treated. I am guilty, Hiilary is guilty, Barak is guilty, everyone reading this is guilty.

You only have yourself to blame if you vote for McCain and things stay the same or get worse. At what time do you you change jobs because it costs more to get to work then you make? That is what we have to look forward if we keep the status quo.

How about saying that Al Capone and Senator Obama have similar personalities and judgement. To say that Senator Clinton and the character in Fatal Attraction is just as ridiculous.
Senator Obama seems obsessed at winning this election any way he can. He wants the power.

Another example of Obama's uniting ways!

This comment would be laughable if it wasn't so sexist.

    How very disrespectful!

When the Dems are split and in disarray come November, people like Steve Cohen will have no further to look, than the end of their stuck up noses, to see whom is responsible.

    Incredible, Disgusting!

Rep Cohen must not have a wife, mother, sister or daughter I mean really, would he want someone to treat them with such contempt, demean them, hold them back and make fun of them for being a female? What exactly is it about him or Obama that makes them better than the rest of us?

Let's not get carried away with Clinton-bashing! Let Sen. Clinton do her thing, so long as she doesn't campaign negatively and undermine Democrats' chances for victory. Like Obama, her candidacy is an historic moment.

I know many Obama supporters like to vent their anger, such as comparing to the character in "Fatal Atracdtion." Anger and bashing feels good, but it's counterproductive. We need Obama's and Clinton's supporters and Independents and open-minded Republicans to work for the Democrats' victory in November, including states like WV and KY.

MORE CHAUVINISM! Typical, given that Hollywood and 90% of African-American voters have abandon the strongest part of the democratic duo who for years gave them mountains of benefits! And the Democratic turncoats who have jumped on the Talking Head band wagon will soon realize how he is against McCain, but then it will be too late! Congrats on getting another Bush in the white house!

I apologize if this ends up posted twice - for some reason my comments keep disappearing...

I am a feminist and an Obama supporter. I have a great deal of respect for Senator Clinton and for those who have chosen to support her. For you supporters out there, please understand that I too find these comments out of line and they do not reflect my feelings or views as an Obama supporter.

Just face it Clinton lost and get on with it. Hey I wanted Romney and we got stuck with McCain. Yeah I don't like it, but that is the way it is. I'll probably be looking at a third party candidate or maybe Obama. Clinton and supporters – Don't be sore losers.

Any Democrat is better than a Republican? NO, NO, NO. Obama can do far more damage in winning than McCain. 4 yrs and McCain is gone, giving Dems another chance to elect a GOOD candidate like Hillary. 4 yrs of Obama means that we will have to wait probably 12 yrs before we can get some real change.

As emperor of the world, Barry will not have to denounce any statements made about Hillary. He is above all of that! From now on he will only denounce anybody who makes any derogatory statements about him.

Let's forget about the primaries and the national election and go straight to the inauguaration and coronate him as emperor and Michelle as empress. Barry is for saving all of those who are oppressed!! Hallelujah and Kumbaya!!!
