McCain, who has been the subject of several SNL sketches this season, will appear on the show this weekend.

(CNN) - John McCain is known to tell a joke from time to time, but how will the Arizona senator stand up next to comedian Steve Carell?

McCain is slated to appear on Saturday Night Live this weekend, during which Carell will play host, a McCain aide confirms to CNN.

The aide says the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will head to New York Saturday to rehearse for his role, though it remains unclear exactly what part he will play.

McCain hosted the comedy sketch show himself in 2002.

Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have also made appearances on the show this year.

Well McCain, I'll vote for you if the sexist pigs get the weakest link Obama in as nominee with the dirty way they've played politics. You will win and Hillary will spend 4 years pointing as you illustrate why you should never have been elected.

McCain will not get my vote. Bush can tell a better joke than McCain and I hate Bush.

I have more wit in my toe nail clippings than McCain does in a life time.

Well, SNL ripped Clinton apart. Can't wait to see what they do w/McCain. Why on earth do they set themselves up for this? What cost free air time?

He (McCain) has a good sense of humor and can stand up to a good roasting by anybody, any day.

Unlike Obama, if you said anything jokingly negative about him a gang of his supporters will come flying out of the woodwork and from under the rocks, accuse you of racism and rip you to shreds.

We will need a president who can be challenged in the coming years. It should be either Clinton or McCain and not a Jr. Senator who can't be questioned about anything, anytime or anywhere.

SNL must be desperate for material. How boring, I see John McCain and I want to go to sleep. That poor guy does not even have a pep in his step. I think I will watch a re-run of anything else.

Do they have a teleprompter for him?.. I"m sure in his monitone voice that he'll try to say something funny....He's an old man in a young man's game, he'll appeal to those over 70, but they'll be in bed before SNL is on.

Yawn. What a pathetic feeble attempt to seduce the young voters. Nice try McCaine... you'll be laughed AT... not "WITH".

Really? This is news? You can't tell me that the Obama and McCain camps haven't at least exchanged some useful tit for tat on a point of disagreement today.

Seriously – could the mainstream media MAYBE give us some info about the candidates positions, or just ANYTHING that might be useful to uninformed voters? Or do we all really just have to read about McCain going on SNL.

    *sigh*
